It's one thing to [[spoiler:use a red sun room and Kryptonite-knuckled gauntlets to beat up a Superman clone]], even if it concludes with [[spoiler:straddling the supine Superman clone to taunt "''who's your daddy''"]], it's another to grab him and wail, "''Why did you leave me? WHY''?!"

* BloodierAndGorier / DarkerAndEdgier: The sheer graphicness of the violence in the movie along with Toyman's paedophilia seem to be an exercise in seeing how much the moviemakers could get away with now that the rating was PG-13.

* CompleteMonster: Toyman is presented as a child murderer with tones that imply he's a pedophile. And this isn't about [[MemeticMolester people reading certain things a certain way either]]--WordOfGod confirms it. On the commentary track, Bruce Timm [[NotUsingTheZWord wouldn't come out and call him a pedophile]], but did say Toyman had "an unhealthy interest in children" and Duane Capizzi mentioned ''LexLuthorManOfSteel'' as an influence and that story not only implied but at one point actually stated that Toyman was a pedophile.

** When Clone Superman rescues the cat, you're not sure if he's going to return the cat to the old lady or ''kill it in front of her''.

He THEN surgically removes it with his heat vision and a pair of scissors.]] We don't see any of this, but it's no wonder one of the workers fainted.

** Ma Kent has a particularly effective one during Superman's "death", breaking down in her own home after having just watched her own (adopted) son die on national television. Not to say Lois didn't have a good one at that moment either, as he died right in her arms having never told her he was Clark Kent (even though she knew it already, she just wanted him to admit it).
** This troper lost it at "last year for Halloween I dressed as Superman, now I want to do it every year" and started bawling like a baby.

** For me, it was the scene Superman actually sacrificed himself to stop Doomsday. Both this movie and the story it was loosely based on define who Superman is, a man who would fight to death for his adopted planet and everyone on it.
