* ThatOneBoss: Gorin High's second story mode battle is a 2-on-1 matchup that pits Natsu against Shoma and Roberto, with the odds stacked heavily in their favor. Shoma gets to start the fight with a tag team partner and 3 full stocks of super meter he gets 5 in the UsefulNotes/PlayStation version. Meaning, they can use their Burning Vigors and team up attacks, right from the start. Plus, anytime Shoma initiates a team up, Roberto comes onto the field and recharges their super meter by 2 stocks (by 3 in the PS version). Whereas Natsu's on her own and doesn't get jack shit (i.e. no super meter to start with). In the amount of time it takes her to gain one full bar, Shoma and Roberto can gain dozens and can AND WILL frequently interrupt any attempt she makes to use her BV's by double-teaming her. Put simply: If you're using Shoma, it's a cakewalk. But if you're using Natsu, it's a rage-inducing exercise in frustration.

I corrected the first Hilarious In Hindsight example. It's erroneous to claim all other fighting game plots are similar to Street Fighter's. Many are distinct enough to be complete departures from SF, such as Bloody Roar. In fact, Capcom retroactively borrowed" many plot and gameplay elements from rival company SNK.

** The game was originally going to be called Justice Fist, with the plot revolving around the strongest fighters in the world gathering for a massive tournament. The eventual decision to focus on a school setting and a cast primarily consisting of teenagers stemmed from various employees noting that the original plot was too similar to that of Franchise/StreetFighter... as well as every other fighting game ever made.

Please use the Magnificent Bastard cleanup thread to propose characters before writing their entries. Magnificent Bastard entries not approved by the thread will be deleted.

* MagnificentBastard: Hyo Imawano orchestrated the Justice High incident in United by Fate as a smokescreen, so everyone would be busy investigating the attacks. Thereby, diverting attention away from himself, while he was carefully selecting which students to kidnap and enslave to become his private army, by which he intended to rule Japan.

Not YMMV

* FollowTheLeader: While the game is more of a shounen and real life martial arts fantasy themed game in the Street Fighter universe, the idea of youths of different associations duking it out in Tokyo is very similar to the 1996 Sega fighting game series Last Bronx: Tokyo Bangaichi and even an American setting predecessor in Fighting Vipers.

Trimming/reworking this example down because dear god it was just one long weird Author Tract.

* ValuesDissonance: Roy Bromwell. While out in Japan, Roy is seen as akin to the ideal student with values that resonate well with its own school system and culture, and whose charisma also includes resonating with the mystique and even exoticism of American freedom and shows like Series/BeverlyHills90210 with Japanese teenagers, out in real life of his home nation of the USA, he's more of an EthnicScrappy evocative of JerkJock and spoiled rotten upper middle class top of the high school popularity food chain individuals (ie. "preps") of the game's and aforementioned show's time that garnered more infamy due to the US's cultural climate of the time, including The Spurs Posse incident of 1993, Music/Nirvana marking a backlash against US high school borne and ingrained bullying and oppressive machismo upon their rise in 1991, popular media such as movies like Film/Carrie and Film/Angus showing these sentiments, and even the infamous OJ Simpson Trials of 1995, showing how much exceptions to justice for spoiling and entitling people of talent regardless of moral and character, and especially to rich athletes and celebrities, was ingrained in the American cultural fabric. His racist nature and reforming arc is also somewhat laughed at by Asian Americans who don't live anywhere near California, as racism is a much more serious topic outside of the game, and is a constant ingrained mentality to his financial status. While it isn't even what he is interested in or associates himself as, because stereotyping is stupid and people are varied, his personality doesn't help very much in this regard for the most part, as well as being a less affable and less cooler knockoff Terry Bogard and Burn Griffiths, both of whom are more well received and liked by the western and American video game and anime fan community as more positive Eagleland representative variety characters, helping to represent the everyday American man who earns his keep honestly and rightfully, showcasing principles of attained self sufficiency by hard work and smarts of their own choice and individuality, making friends and allies of different backgrounds by accepting them for who they are as fellow human beings and people, and don't run counter and are not hypocritical to the ideas of being free men who are equal regardless of social status, race, or who they express and represent themselves as.

* ValuesDissonance: Roy Bromwell. While out in Japan, Roy is seen as akin to the ideal student with values that resonate well with its own school system and culture, and whose charisma also includes resonating with the mystique and even exoticism of American freedom and shows like Series/BeverlyHills90210 with Japanese teenagers, out in real life of his home nation of the USA, he's evocative of JerkJock and spoiled rotten upper middle class top of the high school popularity food chain individuals (ie. "preps") of the game's and aforementioned show's time that garnered more infamy due to the US's cultural climate of the time, including The Spurs Posse incident of 1993, Music/Nirvana marking a backlash against US high school borne and ingrained bullying and oppressive machismo upon their rise in 1991, popular media such as movies like Film/Carrie and Film/Angus showing these sentiments, and even the infamous OJ Simpson Trials of 1995 showing how much exceptions to justice for spoiling and entitling people of talent regardless of moral and character, and especially to rich athletes and celebrities, was ingrained in the American cultural fabric. His racist nature and reforming arc is also somewhat laughed at by Asian Americans who don't live anywhere near California, as racism is a much more serious topic outside of the game, and is a constant ingrained mentality to his financial status. While it isn't even what he is interested in or associates himself as, because stereotyping is stupid and people are varied, his personality doesn't help very much in this regard, as well as being a less affable and less cooler knockoff Terry Bogard.
