** Neopets will refuse to eat foods, read books, or accept Petpets that have the same amount of characters in their nams as their own. While changing the site language so that the length of these items' names change is a potential workaround, it doesn't work for any items introduced after early 2015. This makes getting records for gourmet food and books a nightmare and is a nuisance if you spend a lot of money on a Petpet without checking to see if your Neopet will object beforehand.

* HellIsThatNoise: In ''Jelly Blobs of Doom'', the squelching sound when you get eaten by a jelly blob that's bigger than you and lose the game.

** Grarrls and Skeiths can eat any item, including things that aren't food. This includes Morphing Potions, but "use on [pet's name]" and "feed to [pet's name]" come up as two separate options when using a Morphing Potion on a Grarrl or a Skeith. Many users have chosen the latter option when trying to morph a Grarrl/Skeith and ended up wasting their potions and Neopoints.

* WinBackTheCrowd:
** The Faeries' Ruin was a smash hit for most fans for its dark plot and site-changing events.
** Many old players returned when Neopets went independent in 2023 thanks to many improvements made both on the front-end and back-end, with the implementation of Ruffle to bring back the Flash games that were unavailable since 2020 being a particularly big draw.

* WinBackTheCrowd: The Faeries' Ruin was a smash hit for most fans for its dark plot and site-changing events.

* UnfortunateCharacterDesign: Because of the way the Fish Negg is positioned in its official art, its mouth and fin are commonly mistaken for a scarred eye and a giant tooth.

** During the 2023 Faerie Festival, anyone who didn't join either Team Illusen or Team Jhudora on the first day was assigned to one of the teams at random, which people were not happy with.

** For trophy hunters, the two most dreaded phrases are "Yuck, I'm not eating one of those!" and "That is like such a boring book!". Your neopet will reject a book or food item if it has the same amount of characters as their name. Some have tried to avoid this by changing the language, but later items are not translated, and the language ends up reverting if it detects you trying to do this. This makes getting records for gourmet food and books a nightmare.

* AlternativeJokeInterpretation: In [[https://www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=195805&week=232 this]] article, the section regarding not getting paper petpets wet mentions not to let them near the little Neopet across the street "if you know what I mean". Does this mean that the Neopet across the street is a baby and may drool on the petpet, is not toilet trained and may pee on them, is too young to look after a petpet and may dunk them in water, or was painted with a Water paintbrush?

* ThatOneLevel: Level 36 of ''Attack of the Marblemen''. The blocks are placed in a tight spiral pattern that your marbleman has to navigate around, and every single bumper has to be correctly placed or it won't be able to reach the center before the timer runs out. Bumpers can't be removed from the board after being placed, either, so putting just one bumper in the wrong spot will cause you to lose.

* ThatOneLevel: Level 36 of ''Attack of the Marblemen''. The blocks are placed in a tight spiral pattern that your marbleman has to navigate around, and every single bumper has to be correctly placed or it won't be able to reach the center before the timer runs out.
* ThatOneSidequest: Getting access to the Magma Pool. It is always watched over by a guard who will refuse you entry due to "not being well-versed in the ways of Moltara," but he sleeps for 10 minutes at the same time each day, during which you can sneak past him to paint your pet Magma. This 10-minute interval is at a different time for ''every user'', so in order to find yours, you have to keep going back to the Magma Pool and check off every minute you find him awake. ** Level 36 of ''Attack of the Marblemen''. The blocks are placed in a tight spiral pattern that your marbleman has to navigate around, and every single bumper has to be correctly placed or it won't be able to reach the box before the timer runs out.

** In the late stages of Altador Cup VII, its randomized bracket system became this due to the resulting brackets not being very balanced. Take the top four teams: Kreludor, Mystery Island, and Meridell almost never had to face each other; and the fourth team, Darigan Citadel, also never got a shot at MI and Meridell but instead lost three separate rounds to Kreludor. The randomizer also put Shenkuu and Roo Island in the same bracket for ''every single round''.
** Also in the Altador Cup, the Darigan Ball. Goes off in random directions no matter what. Many score streaks are halted by this very ball. Woe to those who get it on the second round.

** All of the stamp-collecting avatars, as the last five stamps in all applied albums go upwards of 10 million neopoints. (Several of the stamps were only released as competition prizes, so there will only ever be a few hundred of them in existence. Since the Altador Cup only happens once a year, if you just started participating, it would take you ''11 years'' to earn the scarab in real time.

** The Eyrie species is pronounced "eerie", but some have said it wrong as "eye-ree" or "ee-ree". This is despite it having been used for puns in the past, such as a videotape item labeled "[[Series/EerieIndiana Eyrie Indiana]]".

* HoYay: The epilogue of [[spoiler:The Faerie's Ruin]]. Jazan is shown with his wife, Nabile, who is his 'second favourite Ixi thief'. ''Second'' favourite? [[UnreliableNarrator Remember who's telling the story]] (that is, the supposed "first favorite Ixi thief"), though this may only change who the ho yay is coming from.

* PeripheryDemographic: [[ZigZaggedTrope One of the few cyclic examples]]. The site started out intended for college dorm students who weren't allowed to keep real pets. Then in the 2001-2003 era, it began to become popular with young children, and the site shifted its focus. Cue 2012, when the old fans are starting to come back, now as college students, and bringing new fans their age with them. Then, in March 2014, the site was bought by the VideoGame/JumpStart company due to their interest in the audience, and thus the Periphery Demographic has now officially become the Primary Demographic once again.

While they do not have a ''hatedom''--at least, not a vocal one--they have consistently been the #1 least-popular pet from the site's inception in 1999 up until the introduction of the Gnorbu in 2006. Even now, the only pets that have a smaller population are the ones who were introduced after the site's heyday had passed and the audience shrank (the aforementioned Gnorbu, and the Vandagyre) and the ones that [[SecretCharacter cannot be obtained by normal means]] (the Limited Edition and Restricted pets). It's not known why they are not popular, though it's possible that players find their gawky appearances to be unappealing.

** Everybody "knows" that the Kadoaties at the Kadoatery whine for blue Draik eggs all the time. What they don't know is that they ''used'' to do this, but don't anymore. One myth is that you can win a Kadoatie from the Kadoatery-- you can't; the only prizes are trophies and an avatar.

** In ''Crisis Courier'', the "whoosh" heard when the Yooyu flies past the pillar of the end of the level, and the EvilLaugh it makes when it grabs the fig and turns into the Mutant Yooyu.

** In ''Attack of the Marblemen'', the sound of a bomb exploding when a shielded Marbleman runs over it safely.
