* ShipToShipCombat: Alto/Ranka vs Alto/Sheryl. So vicious that the only acceptable outcome is the ''[[TotalAnnihilation complete elimination]]'' of the other. [[TakeAThirdOption Well]]... [[OT3 sort of]].

* Ranka is also a bit of a deconstruction (arguably) with the Moe points she has, though not to the extent of Klan. Namely, despite her cuteness, it does not stop her from making decisions that are less than impressive to some viewers.

* InternetBackdraft: Do not and I repeat do not bring up Ranka's character development, or her behavior, actions or lack thereof over the course of the TV series in any Macross Forum. You will start a war. Movie Ranka is safe though.

* VillainDecay: The Ghost V-9 drones, the mass-production model of the deadly Ghost X-9 of ''Anime/MacrossPlus'', which could singlehandedly dogfight two {{Ace Pilot}}s in {{Super Prototype}}s to a standstill,) are reduced to being mere EliteMooks in the final battle of ''Frontier''. To be fair, it has been almost 20 years since the events of Macross Plus, with requisite advantages in technology. Besides, you still never see one get taken out by a human pilot - the only thing that is shown actually standing up to Galaxy's V-9s are Luca's own AIF-7S's once released to full AI control. Also, as soon as all of the non-hero pilots see them, they instantly crap their pants and are shown getting blown up rather quickly.

* ShipSinking: The writers ''finally'' made an effort to shut up the Alto/Ranka and Alto/Sheryl shippers in the movies by [[spoiler:having Alto ultimately pick Sheryl over Ranka]].

* [[HesJustHiding He's Just Hiding]]: Movie-verse only for [[spoiler:Alto and Sheryl.]] Fans questioned whether or not they were dead due to the ambiguity of the ending, but [[WordOfGod Kawamori]] clarified that [[spoiler:they both survived: Sheryl was in a coma for a while but woke up, while Alto returned to the Frontier Fleet after a bit. Kawamori even expressed shock that anyone thought the two of them ended up dead, as this was apparently not even remotely what he was trying to imply.]]

* CompleteMonster:
** MadScientist [[BigBad Grace O'Connor]] uses a fleet of millions of people as tools to [[TakeOverTheWorld take over the galaxy]]. Her [[AssimilationPlot ultimate plan]] is to MindControl a race of beings (the Vajra) in order to subjugate another race of beings (Humans and Zentradi) and give them all the ultimatum of MindControl implants or death, in effect enslaving the entire galaxy not just physically, but mentally as well. Despite all this, possibly her greatest crime is what she did to one [[WouldHurtAChild seven-year-old girl]] named Sheryl Nome . She murdered her parents, tormented her on the streets where she was homeless and alone, and finally used her in an experiment that causes extreme pain, and even if she didn't die like the previous eight subjects, [[YourDaysAreNumbered she would still die in ten years]]. Grace comes to admit to herself that over the ten years she raised Sheryl, she came to care very deeply for her. However, she decides that these feelings are probably going to get in the way of her mission and [[CyberneticsEatYourSoul deletes them]] in what could be considered a very subtle but all the more damning crossing of the MoralEventHorizon (this is changed in the movie). Averted in the movies and the manga.
** Also Leon, who [[spoiler: working with Grace and murders the good president.]] He even makes fun of the LoveTriangle in the movies after seeing how heartbroken Ranka was at how Sheryl and Alto seem to be getting close together, and right before [[spoiler: ordering NUN troops to arrest Sheryl.]] Did I mention that Alto was injured and wheelchair bound in this scene while being restrained? You're going to taunt a guy in a wheelchair and a sad little girl?

* {{Narm}}: In episode 19, Ranka is running upstairs to the launch deck, [[spoiler:elated because she thinks Alto loves her, when she suddenly barges in on Alto comforting Sheryl (who had collapsed due to [[IllGirl her illness]], but Ranka doesn't know about that).]] On the one hand, it's sad to see poor, brokenhearted Ranka stand there, saying, "It can't be..." with a frozen smile on her face. On the other, it becomes hilarious when one remembers that this is Alto ''[[RanmaOneHalf Saotome]]'', and that [[NamesTheSame his predecessor]] was often caught in ''the exact same situations'', with ''the exact same results''. Ranka should have screamed "I HATE YOU, ALTO!" and [[MegatonPunch punch him into the distance]].

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome [[spoiler:Michel]]'s death scene set to "Diamond Crevasse." Bonus for also being a hell of a TearJerker as well.

* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: Averted by the three PSP games (Ace, Ultimate and Triangle Frontier). Ace is a decent 3rd person mecha shooter (also featuring missions from all other Macross incarnations), Ultimate significantly improves on Ace in depth and scope, and Triangle adds the visual novel-like Academy Mode, where players create a pilot whose story [[HeroOfAnotherStory intersects with the main Frontier tale]].

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The death of Jessica Blance in the ninth episode. It goes to FanficFuel since Mikhail didn't bother to go investigate it.

* FanNickname:
** As a result of MemeticMutation, Ranka is sometimes referred to as "Nyan Nyan";
** Part of the fandom has started calling Brera "Evil Jesus" due to his resembling [[GundamSeed Kira Yamato]] (and having the same voice actor), whose FanNickname is "Jesus Yamato". The movie version of Brera is known as Undercoverpriestcop because of his outfit.
** To differentiate between her two forms, some referred to macronized (Zentradi size) Klan Klan as Klan-sama.
** Bobby Margot, SMS helmsman of the Macross Quarter, is often called [=GARby=] by fans when he has his {{Hot Blooded}} moments (those moments being referred to as entering [=GARby=] mode).
** towards the end of the series, the three bridge bunnies (Monica, Mina, and Ram) were referred to as "Bobby's Daughters".
** Alto has several of these, there's Alto-hime (that was used in the show by Mikhail) Pilot-hime (after he finally got designated a pilot) Kabuki-hime (reference to his past as a kabuki performer) & Sakura-hime (again referencing his past in kabuki theater, but more specifically the name of the last kabuki play he performed in.).
** Sheryl's boobs have the nickname of "Hopes and Dreams" after an infamous scene in Episode 11 which basically involves Sheryl groping her own boobs while declaring that her chest gives people "[[TheNicknamer hopes and dreams]]".
** Grace's boobs are known as "Despairs and Nightmares" after a somewhat less infamous scene where Grace gropes her own boobs [[spoiler:while she monologues her evil plan]], earning the nickname by MemeticMutation from Sheryl's own scene.

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:[[BigBad Grace in the [=TV=] series]]. If her plan to [[TakeOverTheWorld Take Over The Galaxy]] including subverting everyone's free will with mind control implants and killing ''everyone'' who resisted didn't tip you off, there's always Sheryl's backstory. The way Grace sadistically discards Sheryl after watching her grow up from age seven leaves it pretty clear that Grace crossed the MoralEventHorizon a ''long'' time ago]].

* MisBlamed: A strange combination of types 3,4, and 5 in regards to Kawamori. [[spoiler: Fans blame Kawamori for not resolving the love triangle in the last episode because of favoritism and marketing, however this belief [[http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2585414#post2585414 was due to a bunch of faked interviews mentioned in the main pages description.]] Due to a slight but significant mistranslation of Yoshino's fanbook interview, fans then started blaming Yoshino. However, what Yoshino actually revealed in his fanbook interview was that "everyone" came to the same idea around the same time: that it didn't have to end with Alto choosing someone.]] But some of the FanDumb still blames Kawamori or Yoshino for what happened.
