He is always smiling whenever we see him, he's shown to be charismatic (Talking Luann's family into letting him move in with Brad and in their house when he accidentally lit it on fire, talking Brad's dad into okaying a car trip), and has been shown to concoct sometimes rude schemes to get money. However; his parents were never mentioned, and a 2008 strip ''very'' heavily implies that he suffers from ParentalAbandonment. It's easy to interpret that he's a rare male example of a StepfordSmiler who has to resort to scams or unethical business practices to get by.

* CreatorsPet: Mr Fogarty, Luann's teacher. Greg Evans dedicated more than 2 weeks of story to him announcing his retirement (from a job he hates and is terrible at). And within the strips were "flashbacks" showing bits from past stories, emphasizing exactly how one-note he is. And every day a note reminded readers to follow a link to see even more of these past stories. It's doubtful anyone except Evans himself cared about Fogarty leaving, certainly not enough to go skimming through old storylines just to see numerous examples of him being ignored and disrespected by the students. The "shilled by other characters" part comes into play when the students ([[AlphaBitch Tiffany]] included) throw him a surprise retirement party, even though the idea of them showing him attention or gratitude goes against 25 years of canon.

Other colourized strips show TJ as being AmbiguouslyBrown, but it's later averted when he explains his parents were Italian and South American - it's entirely possible for ''both'' his parents to have been brown. (If the italian half was Sicilian.)
* ArtEvolution: Especially evident if you view it on Gocomics.
* AmbiguouslyGay: TJ. The guy's well-dressed and a good cook. We've never seen him with a girlfriend. Josh's commentary on Comics Curmedgeon occasionally lampshades this.
** Also, for a brief period, Aaron Hill. He seemed oblivious to Luann's and Tiffany's attraction to him. Evans was originally going to make Aaron come out of the closet, but backed out.

* CompleteMonster: Toni's boyfriend, Dirk, is portrayed as basically a 100% non-sympathetic piece of garbage during the entire course of his appearances, to ridiculous extent. Yes, Brad is supposed to be the heroic savior and get the girl, but ''COME ON''- the guy's basically a 'roid addict, jealous rage-aholic who disrespects his girlfriend in front of others, and ends up wrecking her car and not paying for it, then complains about the hassle of picking her up. There is literally supposed to be no point we're not supposed to cheer for only Brad.
** Up until his return in 2010, Dirk had exactly '''one''' PetTheDog moment. It was in a flashback where Toni tells Brad how she ended up going out with him in the first place. Her car broke down. He was nice enough to push it out of traffic for her and then wait with her at the mechanic to make sure she wouldn't be stranded there.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Is Toni Daytona simply a ShallowLoveInterest for Brad or is she a BrokenBird who has absolutely no idea what she wants (Hence her seriously mixed signals towards Brad and her dogged defense of the indefensible Dirk)?

* AmbiguouslyBrown: Miguel; although he's stated to be spanish. Other colourized strips show TJ as being AmbiguouslyBrown, but it's later averted when he explains his parents were Italian and South American.

* SpotlightStealingSquad: The comic strip should probably be called "Brad".

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: Toni vs. Ann Eiffel ("You touch me again, Miss Eiffel, and I'll give you [[IncrediblyLamePun an eye full]] of my fist").
