* IAmNotShazam: It's a bit complicated as [[SpellMyNameWithAnS both the show and rider have used "W" or "Double" at various points in time]]. The offical international rominizations for both averts this out right with both being "MASKED RIDER DOUBLE". In spite of this, western fans tend to go with "W" (one notable exception being [[https://kamenrider.fandom.com/wiki/Kamen_Rider_Double the FANDOM]] [[TheWikiRule wiki]])

* DracoInLeatherPants: An InUniverse example. A whole V-Cinema is devoted to a girl from Kamen Rider Eternal's past popping out of nowhere and explaining to Shotaro and Phillip that Daido wasn't a bad guy and was just a FallenHero. Some people don't buy the tragic backstory.
** It's mitigated by the fact that Shotaro and Philip still point out that Eternal did a ''lot'' of bad stuff and hurt Fuuto badly. Their memorial to him comes off as bittersweet, thinking about what could have been for a man who became a monster but could have been a hero, given different circumstances.

** Saeko.

** In short, this series is to ''Franchise/KamenRider'' what ''[[Series/SamuraiSentaiShinkenger Shinkenger]]'' is to ''Franchise/SuperSentai''. [[note]]Almost fittingly, they shared some time together on the Series/SuperHeroTime Block.[[/note]]

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: TheMovie features Dopants that use the T2 versions of 5 of the memories used by Shotaro and Phillip[[note]]the Cyclone, Heat, Metal, Luna, and Trigger memories, to be specific[[/note]]. Too bad we never see a Dopant based on the T2 Accel memory[[note]]while it's understandable why we never see a Joker dopant, since the person who's the most compatible with said memory, Shotaro, would never use the memory to become a dopant, and one can assume that the T2 versions of the Fang and Xtreme memory were presumably recovered by Katsumi's group before Shotaro and co could find it, no such excuse exists for the T2 Accel memory, since it didn't go to Ryu Terui, and it's given to Shotaro by Queen and Elizabeth, who had to have found it before it could turn someone into a Dopant[[/note]].

* AntiClimaxBoss: Once Shotaro and Philip got their act together, [[spoiler: Terror]] was surprisingly easy to beat in a straight fight, most likely due to the point of the Gaia Memory being to [[spoiler: terrify your opponents into a state of helplessness.]]
** [[spoiler:Make that Double/Accel worked together. Once Ryu drew the Terror Dragon off and beat it, Ryubee's combat effectiveness was drastically reduced (also notice the fact that Ryubee can only create those liquids when Terror Dragon stayed in his headdress).]]

** [[spoiler: Utopia]] as well. Despite defeating Accel and the Taboo Dopant with no effort, Double makes surprisingly short work against him. Justified in that his strongest ability, absorbing emotions to power himself up, [[TooSpicyForYogSothoth was used to overload him]].

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Shotaro fools Jinno into running away from an imaginary yeti at the end of "J's Labyrinth". It turns out there really is one, and Shotaro and Akiko faint.

* EpilepticTrees: No, for once, it's not the "Female Riders, No Survivors" one. [[spoiler: A single picture of the [[Series/KamenRiderOOO Core Medals]] set off a wildfire, convincing people that Foundation X would be the next Shocker. Seriously. While it didn't get an expected pay off, one aspect of the foreshadowing, the "King Medal" does make it into the finale of OOO...]]
** [[spoiler: The much later appearance of Foundation X in Series/KamenRiderFourze would eventually confirm that Double, OOO and Fourze all do in fact take place within the same canon.]]
** Although [[spoiler: Akiko did henshin into Double with no ill effects...unless you count getting her face being sucked by the Utopia Dopant as the ill effect]].

** Hikaru Yamamoto's acting as Akiko can get a little too over the top. It really showed in episode 30 where [[spoiler: she thinks Phillip is dead]], and her reaction was hard to take seriously because she sounded like how she normally did during her comedic moments of raging.

* ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: The Delusion Diaries, little shorts of Shotaro having really bizarre daydreams. Entries include 'what if Akiko was a little sister' (featuring the cast as his family, complete with Ryu as a housewife and the Weather Dopant as his father), 'what if Akiko was an idol' (ending in [[GirlOnGirlIsHot Akiko marrying the Triceratops Dopant]]) and 'what will the agency be like in the future' (featuring old man Shotaro, old woman Akiko, Ryu as a ghost haunting the agency, and [[spoiler:Philip having not aged a day due to being data.]])

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Wailing Desperation, the then nameless OneWomanWail from the prologue of the first episode; it was really short, but having been presented at a crucial and dramatic moment, it left quite an impact.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: In short, this series is to ''Franchise/KamenRider'' what ''[[Series/SamuraiSentaiShinkenger Shinkenger]]'' is to ''Franchise/SuperSentai''.

* EvilIsSexy: Saeko.

* HilariousInHindsight: While no crossover with ''Series/SamuraiSentaiShinkenger'' has been planned (unlike ''Series/KamenRiderDecade'' prior), two unintended parallels have surfaced - Memory Gadgets attach to Double's weapons while each carry one of the season's collectible items (the Gaia Memories much like the Shinkenmaru and Inroumaru with their Hiden Discs), and both Kirihiko and [[spoiler:Mako's father]] married ''into'' their respective families.
** Three now. [[spoiler:In ''Shinkenger'', it turned out that the real head of the Shiba family is a girl - fan reaction is mostly positive, but you let Akiko take charge of ONE detective agency, and out come the pitchforks...]]

** The Gaia Memory Enhancement Adapter in ''W Returns: Accel'' works on both Dopant and Riders' memories. In a nutshell, [[Film/CaptainAmericaTheFirstAvenger what is good becomes great, what is bad becomes worse.]]

What makes it hilarious is that they tranform in a semi-slowmo fashion, with the music "Nobody's Perfect", sung by Koji Kikkawa, the actor who plays Sokichi Narumi, their boss, and Philip literally falls on his face...In slowmo.

** [[CardCarryingVillain Shinkuro Isaka]]/[[SerialKiller Weather Dopant]] is a depraved fetishist and a self-admitted PsychoForHire defined by his high-functioning psychopathy and insatiable hunger for power. Originally Shroud's first disciple and a StrawNihilist who found meaning in life upon witnessing the Terror Dopant attacking a group of people, Isaka used his Gaia Memory to become a serial murderer before permanently joining The Museum, with Terui's family being among his victims. Protected from the negative effects of repeatedly using a Gaia Memory by his own sick mind and confessing to using his lover as a tool to satisfy his paraphilia and further his plans, Isaka distributes other Gaia Memories and modifies them to kill their users, once intentionally killing a father in front of his daughter to cause her to develop a PTSD, intending on using her fear to become even more powerful and [[TheStarscream kill his superior]] to take the Terror Memory for himself.
** ''W Returns: Eternal'': [[MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate Dr. Prospect]]/[[BigBad Eyes Dopant]] is a Foundation X scientist who kidnapped people from all over the world to make them into, in his own words, "lab rats" for his Quark Project by giving them PsychicPowers. When he arrives on the scene, every one of these people with psychic powers are utterly terrified of him, showing how horrifically he treated them. Even worse is his Heaven's Fall plan, which was so vile that Utopia Dopant [[EvenEvilHasStandards considered it a brutal act]]. Prospect would blast the area with an electric pulse and that would kill anyone that had not lived up to his standards for the project, referring to this as "cleaning out the test pool". When Daido foils his plan, it is revealed that was merciful compared to what happens if they try to escape him. The eyes he implanted on them to watch them are used to kill them when they leave his compound. Dr. Prospect then [[EvilLaugh laughs his head off]] at the fact he'd just slaughtered a village of innocent people while Katsumi is in shock over the massacre of the village he'd tried to save. His actions are so horrific that it [[DrivenToMadness drove]] [[spoiler:Katsumi]] insane.

** While this is more of an event in the ''Series/KamenRiderDecade'' movie ''All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker," no one should forget Double's debut himself [[spoiler:where he plastered [[Series/KamenRiderBlack Shadow Moon]] himself when the [[GameBreaker game-breaking]] Decade and Rising Ultimate Kuuga cannot]].

* MoodWhiplash: Made the previous reigning king of this in the franchise, ''Series/KamenRiderKabuto'', look like an amateur effort. One example is how there would be serious scenes of Shotaro brooding over his mentor's death sandwiched between scenes of Akiko running around acting like a WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes character high on crystal meth.

* [[TooCoolToLive Too Hardboiled To Live]]: Pretty much Sokichi in ''Begins Night''. [[FirstEpisodeSpoiler It's a given that he dies]], but ''damn it he's so hardboiled it hurts''.

** The Utopia Dopant lights [[spoiler:Kamen Rider Accel]] on fire in Episode 47. As if that wasn't scary enough, [[spoiler:Ryu Terui]] screams in horror as he is burning to a crisp ''both in and out of'' [[spoiler:his rider form]].
** The Spider Dopant has the ability to implant spider bombs in people that make the people they love explode when they touch each other.
** The whole Virus Dopant storyline. Incredibly depressing considering how Sachi was treated by the man she loved and ungodly scary if you see that the dopant isn't her physical body, but a manifestation of her hatred towards him and the guys who ran her.
*** Also, the way the dopant sounds and moves. It looks like something out of ''Franchise/ResidentEvil''.

* HeReallyCanAct: While Genki Sudo is known for MindScrew feints in between his sick moves in his MMA prime, you ''really'' don't expect the LargeHam ManlyGay we got in ''Forever A to Z''.
