** The national anthem of the Moon Nazis uses the tune of the old German patriotic song "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Wacht_am_Rhein Die Wacht am Rhein]]" with different lyrics. From World War One to the end of World War 2, "Die Wacht am Rhein" was so popular that it was one of the ''de facto'' German national anthems (the other one being the more famous - and still used today - "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschlandlied Deutschlandlied]]"). So, the Nazis kept as their anthem a tune their ancestors viewed s such.

*** Actually the scene is, surprisingly, accurate. In real life, NASA's engineers were concerned that if the Apollo LM's descent engine was still running on landing the craft could be damaged by blowing debris or exhaust gas. Therefore, three of the lunar lander's footpads had 5-foot long sensing probes dangling from them which activated the 'contact' light before the lander was on the surface. It was ultimately up to the pilot when to shut down the engine, but some of the LM's made fairly hard landings and suffered some, luckily only minor, damage.

** Considering the Nazis have been on the moon since the Second World War, it is reasonable to assume that they have women and children inside their base.

* {{Anvilicious}}: Republicans are nazis.
** The film is definitely critical of the Republican party, but its message is ''much'' more nuanced than "Republicans are terrible people." It's a treatise against an extreme nationalist mindset that encourages competition rather than cooperation among the nations (something the Republican party is certainly guilty of promoting, at least in recent years). In the film, an international dick-measuring contest reduces the people of Earth to such mindless, violent, selfish, slobbering monsters that the Nazis end up looking civilized by comparison.

* CriticalResearchFailure: 2018 is not an election year. 2016 and 2020 are. Perhaps the film takes place in the same universe as ''Series/TheWestWing''.
** It's probably a reference to the Palin 2010 jokes

** When the moon mission lander touches down at the beginning of the movie, the engine stops when the foot pads are still a little bit above the ground. (In the real Apollo missions, the astronauts dared not shut off the lunar module's descent engine until the contact light was lit, indicating that the foot pads were on the surface. We lost the Mars polar lander because its descent engine cut out before it was on the ground.)
