** The plot of the movie is that Hannah's hometown needs to raise enough money to keep a land developer from turning a local farm into a mega mall. The film came out in 2009, less than a year after the 2008 U.S. recession that resulted in countless malls across America struggling and closing.

* DesignatedVillain: Mr. Bradley in the movie is treated as a villain just because he wants to build a mall. [[HarmlessVillain He doesn't even do anything villainous]]. The only passibly mean thing he does is taunt the town people they won't be able to stop him building that mall. Which is StupidEvil, because those people are his potential customers. Miley actually thinks the mall development is a good idea at first before being told down by her grandmother. [[note]] However, as WebVideo/ToddInTheShadows pointed out, Malls turned out to be a bad long-term business plan with the advent of Online Shopping and especially with the 2020 pandemic forcing malls to close down.[[/note]]

Natter. Plus Miley/Oliver is not the Fan Preferred Couple, Lilly/Miley is.

** The decision was actually more curious because it seemed like there was a lot of subtext between Miley and Oliver up until the episode. Also consider that [[FanPreferredCouple Moliver]] was more popular than [[OfficialCouple Jiley]] and you'll wonder what the writers were thinking.

On both Website/ArchiveOfOurOwn and Website/FanfictionDotNet, Liley fanfiction dominates canonical fanfiction, as apposed to ones based on Music/MileyCyrus that are often falsely slotted with the show's.

** It might be more about the idea of building a mall (a symbol of ConspicuousConsumption and urbanity) in the vicinity of Crawley Corners, a simple, folksy, rural community detached from the material world and big-city values that's pointed out to be a threat to Hannah's hometown and its values. Miley Stewart is, after all, being sent there by her father to remember her roots and relearn the values, morals and humility she was raised with, which the Hollywood celebrity life seems to have robbed her of.
