* EnsembleDarkhorse: While more-or-less each game has its own darkhorse, there are a few recurring monsters/summons that get a lot of love from the fandom:
** Tonberries are generally well-loved for looking adorable for such little killers, not to mention often giving decent rewards for (managing to) defeat them.
** Cactuars
** Chocobos and Moogles, but generally Chocobos are prefered (as they can restore all MP, and allow you bypass monster you don't feel like fighting).
** Amongst Summons, Ifrit and Shiva are this, despite being more or less useless against enemies that are effected by their element.

** The most likely candidates are the first two, due to the utterly staggering number of remakes/ports/what-have-you they've both received. They've been released on the NES, Playstation, Gameboy Advance, PSP, iPhone, Wii Virtual console, Playstation Network, and that's just American releases...at this point it's safe to say almost anyone who owns almost any Sony or Nintendo console can play some version or another of the two.
** FinalFantasyVII has conspicuously not been remade yet, but there is a not-small amount of material called The Compilation released about the game's verse, including movies, novels, and a trio of game sequels. Considering Final Fantasy VII is the game that mostly Broke the Base in the first place, this did not help any.
** In more recent years FinalFantasyIV has gotten some of this treatment. Since 2005 it's been released on the Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, Wii Virtual Console, it got a sequel, and now the sequel and the original are being bundled together and remade for the PSP.

* DuelingGames: Before Square and Enix merged, Final Fantasy and DragonQuest were very much rivals of one another. Even today (mainly in Japan), there is still some rivalry over which series is better.
** And within the BrokenBase of FinalFantasy fandom, while many different games' fans are at each other's throats, likely the best-known rivalry is between fans of FinalFantasyVII and FinalFantasyVI, with many of the latter resenting the former's popularity, which is believed to be undeserved as compared to their own game, and the former thinking (if they care at all) that the title of best FF game is theirs and the old-school fans need to get over themselves already. This usually manifests itself as fighting over which game had the coolest villain.

Misuse of pothole.

** Also, people can't seem to get straight who does what in the production. People often blamed for the direction of a game or the story are actually the character designers. * FanDumb: The series has a pretty big one, especially regarding the XBox360 version of FinalFantasyXIII. To elaborate, when FFXIII was announced for the XBox360, a portion of the fanbase declared it Final Fantasy in name only. They then declared that FinalFantasyVersusXIII was the "true" Final Fantasy XIII. Then the game was announced to have a significant amount of extra content removed and the fan dumb declared that it was because of the 360 version, even though said content was probably extra areas that had no real reason to be in the final game. Then when the critical reaction to the game turned out to be less than enthusiastic, they blamed it on the 360 version again.
