* EvenBetterSequel: Bomberman II improves on the original in pretty much every conceivable way. There's an actual story with cutscenes, six different worlds each with their own themes, smaller stages that limit the amount of time wasted searching for doors, bonus stages, nicer visuals and longer music tracks, and most importantly, the first Battle Mode in the series. While the first game introduced the core gameplay, Bomberman II established the formula that most of the rest of the series would follow.

* FridgeLogic: In the credits sequence of R, silhouettes of the eight main characters are all seen walking across different planets. In a shot with them walking towards the camera, their eyes are invisible due to them being silhouettes… however, when they get close enough, they suddenly open up their eyes as they look up at the stars. If that is the case, then doesn't that mean that they were all walking with their eyes closed the entire time?

** Super Bomberman gives invulnerability at the start of the level. When you collect Block Pass, and enough Speed Ups, you can walk all over the map dropping bombs, taking out at least half the monsters before you become vulnerable. Then, there's indestructible armor that extends the invulnerability period.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Only a few weeks after R[='=]s release, the first patch was launched, aiming to fix the input lag and connection issues that had been plaguing their players and hurting the game's ratings. A few weeks later, another patch addressed most of the game's bigger complaints, such as connection issues, the story mode's isometric camera angle, the addition of private rooms for multiplayer, and difficulty tweaks to the boss AI. These have lead to some reviewers bumping up the game's score and recommending the game more readily. By the Grand Prix update, many skeptics have embraced the game.

* BrokenBase:
** After the initial buzz about Bomberman's big return, Super Bomberman R fell into this. A good number of fans are still excited to know that Konami still cares about Bomberman and that the game is looking good, especially since former Bomberman devs are working on it. However, others think that everything that the fanbase doesn't like about Konami will still rear its ugly head and ultimately ruin the game and possibly kill the franchise for good.
** After a release of the opening cinematic for R, the dubbed voice acting of the game has become polarizing. A handful of fans see it as grating and annoying, while another camp sees it as charming and welcome unique voice actors for each of the bombers. Some TakeAThirdOption and say that while it does sound cheesy, it helps hammer in the game's vibe of being something like a Saturday morning cartoon or badly dubbed 50's anime.
** While Pyramid Head, Vic Viper, and Belmont Bomber were more greeted with surprise than anything, the second wave of DLC bombers being Reiko Hinomoto along with Anubis and Jehuty has issued a divisive split in the fanbase. Either crossing over with Konami's other [=IPs=] is still a bad idea and Konami needs to focus on bringing in bombers from the previous games, or it's completely fine and they can hope for returning bombers after a few more waves.

* ContestedSequel: Super Bomberman R, especially considering that it's the first true Bomberman game in several years (and the first Super Bomberman game in 20). Fans find it to either be a resounding success and Bomberman's big second coming or an overpriced game with not enough substance. Though Konami did release a few patches which ironed out several of the game's bigger flaws, fans still debate whether or not the content justifies the game's $50 price tag.

Thanks to the huge screen, and depending on your number of power-ups and luck, it would end up being easy... or a far more time-consuming task than defeating the enemies. You could also end up finding the door early and having to blow-up an enemy that would station near, forcing you to fight Pontans that move really fast and can pass through blocks.
