** [[GeneralRipper General Kehck]] is the leader of the Alpha Sections, a military organization devoted to battling the DomZ aliens and protecting the denizens of planet Hillys from both the invaders and from the terrorist organization known as the IRIS Network. At least, that's what he wants people to believe. In reality, the IRIS Network is a [[LaResistance resistance movement]] dedicated to exposing the truth: that Kehck and his Alpha Sections are aiding the DomZ in their attempt to harvest everyone on the planet, just as they have done across hundreds of worlds. Those abducted are transported to the moon where they are [[VampiricDraining sucked dry of all their fluids]] so that [[TheDragon Kehck]] and his master, [[BigBad the DomZ Priest]], [[ImmortalityImmorality may live longer]]. Throughout the game Kehck uses his PropagandaMachine to urge the people of Hillys to enlist in the Alpha Sections, knowing full well that they'll be slowly converted by the DomZ into monstrous grotesqueries to act as his army of mooks. When the protagonist, Jade, manages to start exposing the truth about the Alpha Sections, Kehck responds by [[WouldHurtAChild kidnapping the war orphans Jade's adopted for he and his boss to feed on]]. He also hooks up Jade's ParentalSubstitute, Pey'j, into a torture machine for three weeks. This eventually ends up killing Pey'j and he only manages to recover thanks to Jade's newly manifested healing powers. Unlike the DomZ Priest who needs to feed on planets to survive, or the other Alpha Sections soldiers who have been turned into monsters, Kehck is completely human and isn't in any danger of dying. He's just a selfish man who wants to live a little bit longer and is willing to wipe out entire planets to do so. Even as he's dying he remains completely unrepentant about his deeds, mocking Jade about how everyone she loved is already dead, before, with his final breath, [[CardCarryingVillain saying a prayer for evil to overcome good]].

** [[TheDragon General Kehck]]. Whereas all the other Alpha Section soldiers appear to be corrupted caricatures of the men they once were, he looks completely healthy, and he's ''still'' working for the near-omnicidal [=DomZ=] Priest; he joined ''willingly'', fully knowing what would entail afterward.

** FridgeBrilliance: Watch him during combat, then watch him again VERY closely while he is breaking barriers for you. You will notice that he uses a forcefield.

* FandomBerserkButton: No, wrestler TripleH has nothing to do with this game. If you make that mistake, as so many before have, the fan's responses will likely make you feel like a real [[IncrediblyLamePun heel.]]

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation - Chip Cheezum and General Ironicus' Let's Play of the game jokingly suggests that, as a result of his tendency to [[UseYourHead Use His Head]], Double H was brain-damaged well before he was ever introduced to that nasty-ass machine the [=DomZ=] had him in. They further theorize that he was given a copy of the childrens' edition of Carlson and Peeters (to accommodate his impaired thinking), which is also a coloring book. He colors in one page every night, with just the biggest grin on his retarded face. (In-game, he's [[CloudCuckoolander goofy]], but still intelligent.)

* CargoShip - Pey'j likes the hovercraft a tiny bit much. [[spoiler: And to a lesser extent, [[CoolStarship the Beluga]].]]

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome - For the game's music, Ubisoft hired a relatively unknown freelance composer named Christophe Heral. Good choice. "Home Sweet Home" and "Hylian Suite" are standout tracks, but there are many good ones. Notably, {{Ubisoft}} gave out the soundtrack for free with express permission to put it on Torrents.

* DisappointingLastLevel - Depends on who you ask. The endgame does feel rather rushed and introduces some [[spoiler: inexplicable superpowers]] with little more than some vague foreshadowing.

* EnsembleDarkHorse - Meï is ''very'' popular with the fandom, probably second only to the three leads. Being a [[AmazingTechnicolorPopulation blue-furred]] CatGirl with hips ''probably'' helps.

* FandomBerserkButton - No, wrestler TripleH has nothing to do with this game. If you make that mistake, as so many before have, the fan's responses will likely make you feel like a real [[IncrediblyLamePun heel.]]
* GuideDangIt: ''The final boss''. You have to hit him [[PuzzleBoss in a very specific order]] and you can't let him hit you or the entire sequence resets, potentially letting the fight drag on ''forever''. The InterfaceScrew he throws at you doesn't help in the least.

* MisaimedMarketing - Just check out the link to the "string cheese" incident above. Now "string cheese" is a minor inside joke in the fandom.

* NeedsMoreLove - Was originally going to be a trilogy, but now Ubisoft is pondering, yet has not 100% committed to the sequel yet, pending sales of the HD version... so buy the HD version now!

* TearJerker - If the "lighthouse scene" doesn't make you choke up a little, you may not have a soul.
* UglyCute - Pey'j and Double H are just ''so damn endearing.'' Pey'j may be a fat, smelly, over-the-hill pig and Double H a meatheaded TopHeavyGuy, but the fandom absolutely adores the both of them.

* NintendoHard: Not the game itself, but the mini-game you get for obtaining all the pearls in the game. To clarify: you have to control two pearls with the right and left analogue sticks and ensure that they don't touch walls or other obstacles. Combined with the fact that [[AutoScrollingLevel the level advances so that]] [[CameraScrew sometimes you can't see what's coming]] and you've got a recipe for frustration.

* VindicatedByHistory: It's got to be one of the most highly regarded and talked-about video games to totally bomb on its original release of all time.
** It's pretty much a tie between this and ''VideoGame/{{Psychonauts}}''.

* SpiritualSuccessor: To Rayman 2. Both feature a pristine, SceneryPorn laden location invaded by machine-like beings, who kidnap many of the protagonist's friends. Since they were made by the same developer, this is hardly surprising.

* HellIsThatNoise: That weird ambiance consisting of a siren what sounds like a person making weird incomprehensible noises under their breath (it's the third part of "Behind Enemy Lines" on the OST,) heard in some places like when a heat-seeking missile is chasing the hovercraft or you encounter the [[BorderPatrol spires at the edge of the map.]] It's creepy as hell.
