* LocalHangout: The series had two:
** The Honker Burger from the original run on Nickelodeon was a fast food hamburger restaurant that all of the main cast hung out at regularly when not at school.
** In the Disney retool, the Honker Burger was bought out and turned into a fancy French restaurant. Fortunately Mr. Swirly, the local ice cream manufacturer, had just opened up his restaurant functionally identical to the Honker Burger to serve as a new hang out.

* AmbiguouslyChristian: Although never shown explicitly in the series (the closest it gets to a mention of God is Doug declaring that "someone up there must like me" when he finds out that Patti ''didn't'' get his video tape by mistake in "Doug's Secret Song"), Jim Jinkins has mentioned in interviews that the Funnie family are churchgoers, and that one would have to look for subtle hints such as the way they're dressed on Sunday afternoons (i.e. Phil in a dress shirt but loosened up) to notice this. This is another way in which the series reflects the childhood of its creators, as both Jinkins and David Campbell were raised Christian. After the Nickelodeon series of ''Doug'' concluded, Jumbo Pictures made some more explicitly Christian animation, including the series ''Hoop Dogz'' and a series of direct-to-video animated Bible stories.

** "Doug's Midnight Kiss" has a hilarious one. Roger mentions he kisses a lot of girls on New Year's Eve and sees it as a record. Cue him doing so, as Doug gets cold feet about kissing Patti because he doesn't feel ready. The thing is that none of the girls consented to Roger kissing them. He has to run from an angry mob of them, making his act PyrrhicVillainy. Meanwhile, Patti spends the rest of the time with Doug because she said she wasn't ready for any kissing, and is happy to be with a guy who gets it.

On the technical front, the show is famous for its unique use of vocal sound effects: a ''huge'' portion of the soundtrack (including most of the main theme) is made up of {{scatting}} and beatboxing performed by voice actors, with even many of the ambient environmental sound effects being produced by actors. Many of these sound effects were provided by professional "mouth-sounds" artist Fred Newman (known for performing most of the vocal sound effects on ''Radio/APrairieHomeCompanion''), who also voices Skeeter and Porkchop.
