Her repressed witch side manifests as psychic phenomena, that strikes out at people she knows and acts out her unconscious wishes. The phenomenon carries to every member of her bloodline. In the first movie, Katie's repressed anger at her Jerkass boyfriend Micah manifests as a 'demon' that torments him.
