Light's intellect goes far above anyone else's in his family, his appearance doesn't match theirs at all, and whatever strange disorder he has probably doesn't run in the family. Light was simply such a bright and well-adjusted boy that his parents didn't want to ruin his life by revealing to him that he was an unwanted child.

Think about it. L has been shown to easily predict people's actions and reactions. He is perfectly comfortable putting himself in social situations, he just doesn't conform to them. His skills don't just lie in detective work, he is extremely skilled in tennis of all things. He lies because he knows he can get away with it. Yes, he is eccentric, but he can afford to be at his level. He still could, of course, but the evidence can also be explained away. I have Asperger's, and I know a lot of neurotypicals who'd love to dress like L if they could. But they have society to impress, and L doesn't.

Like Light, she's got some weird connection to darkness, despite them being good-light-people - With Light it's the Death Note, with Hikari, it's the Dark Ocean/Sea of Darkness. Either way, it's probably not going to make Light very happy to find out that there's a ''second'' world he's going to have to cleanse. Poor, poor, Light.

Throughout the series we're reminded that Ryuk is in the human world to alleviate boredom, and that he will write Light's name in his note in the end. Light only boldly challenges L because of this...he knows if Ryuk gets bored of him, that's it for him. That's why he launches these crazy schemes, in order to keep things interesting all the time. The entire series is basically a show for Ryuk. As long as he's entertained, he won't kill Light.
