While 'Jack' did obey Fontaine's and Ryan's orders when he was given the 'Would you kindly' phrase, he also obeys Dr. Langford to get the rose, Sander Cohen to kill some people to get their pictures, Peach Wilkins to risk his life to get a camera and take photos of Spider Splicers, and Tenenbaum to have himself turned into a Big Daddy simply to get through one door when he could have tried using dynamite instead... all without one of them using the code phrase. Its quite possible that the 'real' Jack tried hijacking the plane only to have a mentally retarded mass murderer eat him and wear his clothes. Then 'Crazy Jack' went into Rapture and pretty much filled the same role as the 'real' Jack would have, that's why Fontaine failed was because his supposed puppet wasn't really a puppet... just some crazy guy who kills people as soon as look at him unless they ask him to fetch stuff. 'Crazy Jack' is probably a drug addict since he has no qualms with sticking random needles into his arms. The reason the Bathyspheres let him move around is because the so called 'sensors' that excluded anyone except Ryan from using them were made by the lowest bidder and just let anyone move around... Atlas could move around to help you and Sander Cohen could mess with them as well. The heart troubles from the Code Yellow phrase was just the natural result of all that splicing and eating cheap food off of burned corpses catching up with him (Tenenbaum's attempt to remove programming from his brain that was never there in the first place might have been a factor as well). And Ryan wasn't actually controlling Crazy Jack during the cutscene... Crazy Jack was just playing around until Ryan asked him to beat his head in.

[[WMG: Sander Cohen has prosthetic legs]]
He lost his legs before coming to Rapture, and after receiving prosthetics, his movement remained very limited for a long time. He says he admired Finnegan's "carriage" not simply because he found him attractive, but largely because he envied Finnegan's agility and freedom of movement. After coming to Rapture, he became paranoid that people were mocking him for his handicap, and this contributed to his insanity.
He ultimately became a Houdini splicer so he could get around faster. By the time Bioshock takes place, he's gotten used to his prosthetics and can walk well enough, but his mobility used to be so limited that, if he ever tried to jump, he'd just fall flat on his face--hence his poem that "when I hop, I never get off the ground." Fitzpatrick openly made fun of Cohen for the loss of his legs, so, after going [[EvilCripple completely insane]], Cohen plastered Fitzpatrick's legs to the piano bench as poetic justice.

The slugs that produce the ADAM that rewrites your DNA to let you perform magic (in an ''underwater'' city and with the side effect of ''insanity'') are derived from fragments of Lovecraftian EldritchAbominations that have integrated themselves into little girls (similar to ''The Dunwich horror'' and the tentacle rape genre), combined with the side effects of being anywhere near Cthulhu. Big Daddies are Deep Ones (Bouncer), and those with the Innsmouth taint (Rosie) magically bound into service by Andrew Ryan. Fontaine didn't want Rapture; he wanted the Necronomicon, the thing that allowed Ryan to harness alien sciences and build an entire city at the bottom of the ocean.

[[WMG: Tennenbaum is the Big Sister]]

Whoever it is fanatically protective of the little sisters to the point of kidnapping at least a dozen little girls to convert into the little girls. Tennenbaum notes in her audio logs how obsessive her maternal instinct is, and what other major player is left in the city after the end of the game?
** [[Main/RememberTheNewGuy Promotional material seems to indicate that the Big Sister is a lost Little Sister that Jack and Tennenbaum never encountered during their stay in Rapture.]]
*** Further {{Jossed}} - [=GameInformer=] shows her alive in 1967. She apparently escaped with a group of Little Sisters (regardless of what Jack did in the first game). The Big Sister is one of these girls that returned to Rapture and started it up again.
** Even ''further'' {{Jossed}}; not only does Tennenbaum show up (albeit not for very long at ''all''), but Big Sisters are generic enemies descended from grown-up Little Sisters, not a single entity.
* This logic is flawed anyway - Tenenbaum states that she greatly regrets turning the girls into Little Sisters in the first place, so she's not going to go and make more.

[[WMG: The Big Sister is Samus Aran.]]
Mostly because this page needs more 'fun' theories.
* She is the prototype for the Power Suit.
** Unfortunately, there are multiple Big Sisters which kinda puts a dent in this theory.
*** She could be one of several Big Sisters...

This may all simply be a series of programming oversights, but the writers could use it as a plot point to bring Cohen back in the sequel. They could even throw in a reference to ''The Prestige''.
** Jossed. Cohen makes no appearance in the sequel.
*** No physical appearance - try harvesting the two ADAM corpses in Cohen's Collection in the drowned park. Cohen's signature piano piece starts blaring on the speakers, and he laughs and applauds your slaughter of splicers over the speakers once both harvests are done. More of an easter egg, yes, but he's still around.

[[WMG: Demitosse will be a major antagonist in [=BioShock=] 2]]
If you look out many of the windows in Rapture, you'll see a series of billboards with three names: RYAN, FONTAINE, DEMITOSSE. Since Ryan --> Fontaine was the Main/BigBad progression in the original game, this has fueled fan speculation that a further Fontaine --> Demitosse plot progression would appear in the sequel, with Demitosse being the new Big Bad.
* It's actually spelt [[http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/7/31/2028887/Shot00063.bmp Demitasse]]. According to TheOtherWiki a demitasse is a small coffee or tea cup and, considering the text under "demitasse" in the screenshot, it's probably just an ad for tea or tea cups rather than the name of some mysterious BigBad.
** So the next BigBad will be a cup of Coffee... Oh my god... [[WebAnimation/HomestarRunner Homsar's]] Father!
** Jossed, since there hasn't been any mention of a Demitosse anywhere in the game.

[[WMG: The Big Sister will be killed about halfway through the game, plunging Rapture into chaos. The rest of the game will be spent trying to fix the mess.]]
The promo material for ''Bioshock 2'' makes a considerable deal about how the Big Sister's influence has resulted in Rapture reaching a state of stability/equilibrium. Yet, seeing as how she's kidnapping girls from the surface and also apparently trying to kill you, it's pretty obvious we're expected to hunt her down. This will ultimately lead to a plot twist similar to the original ''Bioshock'' where killing the apparent Main/BigBad only makes things worse.

It's possible that the game's real Main/BigBad will manipulate the player into killing the Big Sister before revealing themselves. However, this is a bit too similar to the original game's big plot twist to expect that they'd use it again. The player may simply kill the Big Sister because, well, that's what players do, and thus unlike Jack will be fully morally responsible for the act and the resulting chaos.
** Jossed; there are multiple Big Sisters and none of them seem to be anything more than enforcers.

[[WMG: The Big Sister is the former Little Sister of the first Big Daddy.]]
The April '09 issue of Game Informer states that the player-character of [=BioShock=] 2 will not only be ''a'' Big Daddy, he'll be the ''first'' Big Daddy. It's possible that the Big Sister is one of the rescued Little Sisters who couldn't fully escape her conditioning. Returning to Rapture, she's determined to regain her earlier life by becoming a Big Daddy (well, Big Sister) to the other girls, who she assumes also misses Rapture as much as she did. This matters because at some point during the game, your identity as the first Big Daddy will matter... because before Jack separated the two of you, Big Sister was ''your'' Little Sister, and therefore the first Little Sister herself.
** You know the tape when Dr. Suchong slaps a little sister and killed by the big daddy he was working on? That's Big Sister and the first Big Daddy
** To add to this theory, after a certain point in the game, probably as a good ending path, after the player defeats Big Sister for good and a new threat shows up, Big Sister and the player will have to team up to stop the new bad guys. However, as a result of their fight Big Sister will be barely able to walk and will have to ride on the player's back, reflecting their previous Big Daddy-Little Sister relationship.
* Jossed; there are multiple Big Sisters, and the original Little Sister of Subject Delta has not yet been converted into a Big Sister as Lamb has plans for her.
** Eleanor does become a Big Sister near the end of the game, though.

[[WMG:The girl in the [=BioShock=] 2 trailer is Big Sister]]
She's obviously an older Little Sister and I think it's safe to assume she misses at least part of Rapture as she still owns a (homemade) Big Daddy doll and it watching the sea. The rising city in the sand could represent her return to Rapture, where she outfits herself with the Big Sister suit. As for her motive, I'm not quiet sure... Maybe she thinks being a Little Sister was awesome and wants to make other girls experiance what she did? I don't know.
* {{Jossed}}; a case of NeverTrustATrailer.

[[WMG: The Big Sister will go after Tenenbaum and Jack once she has collected enough Little Sisters.]]
Her ultimate goal is to assemble some kind of creepy version of a 'family' to help her rule over Rapture. With Tenenbaum having originally created the Little Sister process, and Jack both having protected them and been in a Big Daddy suit at one point, they will be her parental figures.
* {{Jossed}}; there is no one Big Sister, since they're generic.

[[WMG: Andrew Ryan was working on a rudimentary AI construct.]]
In part because someone else hinted at it in the main page, in part because I've been thinking of it since I first played the game. [[VideoGame/SystemShock The Big Sister form is dead, insect!]]
* Confirmed as of Minerva's den. Thankfully, AIIsACrapshoot is averted.

[[WMG: The Big Sister is an EmoTeen.]]
A recent interview claims that the Big Sister was once a Little Sisters who went up to the surface, but came back down years later for some reason. The whole "kidnapping children and becoming a supervillain" thing is a cry for attention from her adopted family. Which may or may not be Jack.
* "I don't care what the other kids at school are doing. As long as live under my roof, you are ''not'' getting Big Daddy enhancements!"
* While amusing, {{Jossed}}.

[[WMG: The second game will include some kind of fight against an underwater creature.]]
Sure, they tell us that the water-walk sections will be a break to survey our surroundings, but it's all just a clever set up to make us wet our pants when some kind of giant beast comes at us through the murky depths. Maybe a shark or an octopus exposed to the ADAM (either accidentally or by the proposed villain behind the Little Sister), or...a giant queen-type figure of the sea slugs who produce it in the first place? Why, you ask? [[RuleOfCool Because it would be AWESOME.]]
* Also, when they say "you can't use weapons underwater," they mean "you can't use any non-Big Daddy weapons underwater."
** Related to the mention of Innsmouth at the top of the page, it could be some sort of minor Deep One.
* Jossed. There is no undersea battle of any kind.
** Well, technically, all of the fights are 'undersea battles'...
* There is an undersea creature. Gil Alexander apparently escapes into the ocean if you spare him, and if you look at a certain peace of concept art, he's basically bright red Cthulhu.

[[WMG: After the Big Sister is defeated, the player will have to deal with TheGovernment.]]
The Big Sister is dead. The first Big Daddy has finished his charge and maybe helped Tenenbaum absolve her guilt over being involved with the chaotic downfall of Rapture or something. BUT THEN! Either after ignoring the issue of the mysterious red lights or secretly following it all along, the feds show up and [[CorruptCorporateExecutive one of them]] is awed by what could be achieved with the ADAM: science, world conquest, what have you. They could mutiny or bait their entire team into it and try to subdue the Big Daddy before taking their findings above surface. After this transpires, you'll need to help Tenenbaum destroy Rapture once and for all, so the horrible secrets it held are destroyed.
* Alternatively, you'll end up having to do roughly the same thing, but against TheMafia. Fontaine's old contacts, perhaps?
** OR EVEN! A former member of ThoseWackyNazis who was jealous of that 'inferior Kraut' Tenenbaum stealing their spotlight?
** There was the talk of Russia invading Rapture early in development - whether or not they survived the current version of the game is yet to be seen.
* Jossed. The main villain for the entire game is Sofia Lamb.

[[WMG: If there is a [=BioShock=] 3, the player character will be [[DatingWhatDaddyHates Billy]].]]
Having somehow survived the flooding of Dionysus Park, Billy will grow up to be a jaded splicer, who does a HeelFaceTurn after seeing his childhood crush alive and well... but as a big sister.
* Jossed.

[[WMG: The persona of Atlas was based on a real man that Fontaine knew]]

He was an immigrant dockworker, enormously strong, working to support a wife and son. He had never liked Ryan's way of thinking. He fought in the Civil war alongside Fontaine as one of his main men. After he lost his family (maybe it was to the Splicers, maybe it was to Ryan's supporters), he lost his touch a little. Fontaine hadn't seen him for a long time after that. He was always smart and able to defend himself, but Fontaine would be surprised if he had managed to survive Rapture's breakdown.

Of course, anything's possible. Maybe he was still out there somewhere. Behind a metal suit, perhaps. Or a white mask.

[[WMG:Ryan was splicing, and that is why he went crazy and betrayed his principles]]

First off, sorry if this has been said already. Ryan merely appeared healthy and normal because he could afford the highest-quality plasmids and tonics, and probably tested them thoroughly (on inmates of Persephone, most likely) to make sure they didn't cause immediate disfigurement or noticeable insanity. But the brain-and genetics-are both delicate, tricky things, and just because a plasmid didn't immediately make the user catatonic or frothing at the mouth crazy doesn't mean that it couldn't have subtler, long-term effects, such as making the user increasing paranoid.

[[WMG:Rapture is powered by the BP oil spill.]]

...Give me one good reason it isn't.
* Rapture was built in the 40s, experienced a great amount of decay and destruction through the late 50s and 60s, and is located a ways east of Greenland.
** Timey Wimey Ball. With portals.

[[WMG: [=BioShock=] 3 will involve the complete destruction of Rapture at the hands of a band of mercenaries]]
After two adventures in this city, Tenenbaum will decide that it must be eliminated completely, and call her brother and his team to do the job. Valve and Irrational Games will come together in one glorious moment of 1960's-style violence and destruction to give the fans of both the one thing they really want; a chance for Heavy to wrestle with Brute Splicers and Big Daddies.
* Jossed.

[[WMG: All of the sequels to [=BioShock=] will systematically deconstruct various ideologies (at least in their extreme form)]]
My guess is Anarchism will be the one to get the next treatment, what with it being practically the near diametric opposite to the ideals of Columbia. One might also speculate that different forms of Communism/Socialism will get a treatment as well. Ones that stand out as being ripe for the picking, if you will, include Trotskyism and Maoism/Anti-Revisionism (both of which are essentially diametric opposites to each other within the confines of Marxism-Leninism). Others could be Agrarianism and Fascism (though the latter has been done to death already....).

[[WMG: Cohen really is a brilliant composer, he's just a lousy lyricist.]]
Compare "Rise, Rapture, Rise" with Cohen's Scherzo #7. (And can you really picture Cohen playing nice with a collaborator?) On the surface, Cohen was also writing for the theater as a moneymaking endeavor and from the look of it, it was pretty much total dreck; successful at first, but ultimately repetitive and forgettable. If that was the work he was known for, no wonder nobody took him seriously as a serious composer. Part of the lure of Rapture was the freedom promised to create art without fear of the censor; even pre-murder statuary, it's possible he was making work a little edgier than could be respectably performed, or at least thought that's why his unbearable musicals were tanking. But he just swapped out one yawning public for another one that happened to also be a literal captive audience, and started having to write literal propaganda with lyrics he subconsciously knows are trash, aimed at children and the general public. The frustration that made him crack was the fact that he still couldn't ''force'' anybody to appreciate what he'd written or to appreciate his music on its own merits rather than the work of Ryan's right-hand man that you'd better hum along to or else. Though he does obviously try.

Back in the 40's, when Rapture was constructed, DNA ''testing'' wasn't mainstream, let alone DNA modification. The slugs that produce the ADAM that rewrites your DNA to let you perform magic (in an ''underwater'' city) are derived from Lovecraftian EldritchAbominations forced to integrate themselves into little girls (similar to ''The Dunwich horror'' and tentacle rape fics), combined with the side effects of being anywhere near Cthulhu.

The universe created by Lovecraft encompasses far more then just the usual suspects like Ry'leh, Cthulhu and the Deep Ones. However, the unexplained existence of strange abominable slugs who's extracts allow for genetic manipulations beyond the logical possibilities of human DNA does sound strangely Lovecraftian. Especially since their introduction to Rapture inevitably leads to Madness and Mutation taking over the populace. Those slugs were indeed ThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow...

[[WMG: ADAM comes from [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Adam]].]]
Like LCL came from Lilith. The evil-ending Eleanor (or possibly even the good-ending version) may also have ended up creating/joining SEELE. Feel free to come up with other implications.

* When the Little Sisters talk of ADAM-infected Splicers being Angels, they weren't being delusional. They were actually almost Angels, having consumed ADAM's blood. Perhaps Rapture is a SEELE experiment and Ryan and Fontaine were manipulated by them, until both went rogue ala [[spoiler:Gendo]]. However, the Splicers and consumers of ADAM didn't turn into [[{{Instrumentality}} Tang]] or [[BiShonen Kaworu]], because they consumed the mass-produced low-quality version that only resulted in [[MindScrew insanity]] and ugly disfigurement. It would be further into the future where one could perfect the Vita-Chamber tech and perfect the best host for both cultivating both ADAM and Lilith: [[spoiler:the Evangelions and Rei]].

This Troper admits the following theory is messed up and sacrilegious and also probably NauseaFuel, so I'll put most of it in spoiler tags. Also while we're on the subject of the reproductive system (And since the WMG tags don't seem to be working for me) [[spoiler: Fontaine]] didn't splice away his balls. ** If one counts ''VideoGame/BioShockInfinite'' as ''[=BioShock 3=]'', this actually comes very close to Confirmed given Columbia's Prophet, Father Comstock, and his relationship to ''Infinite's'' protagonist Booker [=DeWitt=].
