** The darkest skin option is still relatively light, and due to the anime-like art style, the only way to make your character recognizably "black" is to give them a haircut typical of Afrocentric people (of which, for males, there is exactly one).
*** Then again, considering that Grace (the player character's mother) looks the same regardless of how you make Calem/Serena look, this could be chalked up to them having mixed genetics instead of any unfortunate implications.
** As for [=NPCs=], you often see characters with medium African skin, who likely represent the many Moroccan and Algerian immigrants living in France (which the game is set in an Expy of).

* RatedMForManly:
** Mega Garchomp is not only a dragon-shark-jet like its original form, but it also has a rougher design, has scythe blades for hands and looks like it's wearing a ripped jacket.
** Pangoro likewise looks like a gangster with a BadassLongcoat and has the very manly Dark/Fighting-type.
** Mega Scizor looks like a mecha straight out of ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann''.

* FighterMageThief: The starter trio. Fennekin is a witch (the mage), Froakie is a ninja (the thief) and Chespin is covered in armour (the fighter). WordOfGod says this was intentional and made to fit within a MedievalEuropeanFantasy theme.

* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: The English the tourist speaks [[KeepItForeign in the Japanese versions of the games]], seen as Japanese in the English and French versions, is a pretty flawless, grammatically correct translation of what she says in Japanese, likely provided by the English localization team.

* SurpriseCreepy: The Kalos region takes great pride in how beautiful the locations are, how friendly and generous the people are, and its great history. [[spoiler: Then you find out about the various bloody wars it had in that history. One of these wars was so violent that it only ended because someone built an equivalent to a nuke and set it off, destroying virtually everything. The villainous team also wants to set off the same weapon once more.]]

* A minor case, but for the first time, you are the only one in your circle of rivals challenging Gyms. Checking the statues will only display your names.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority:
** At the Battle Chateau, you are given a title in the nobility and can raise your rank by winning more battles.
** Naturally, this means that Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, when they show up, all have high ranks (and their Pokémon tend to be stronger than standard trainers of the same rank, even more so if you use a Writ). Gym Leaders are all Marquis/Marchioness rank, the Elite Four are the Duke/Duchess rank, and [[spoiler:Diantha]] (who appears after you defeat everyone else there) is a Grand Duchess.
** Averted with some of the trainers there being fairly weak for their rank, with dialogue hinting that they were basically born into it.

** In [[spoiler:AZ's backstory, it's claimed that his Floette returned to him "in a tiny box"]]. [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools A rare case]] where this trope makes a moment [[TearJerker even MORE powerful]].

* EverythingsBetterWithPlushies: The Poké Fan trainer class, who carry dolls of Pokémon, including, confusingly, a Banette... a Pokémon who [[{{Irony}} happens to be a haunted doll.]]

* IncrediblyLamePun: A backpacker in Parfum Palace will state that sleeping in the king's bed is "ir-regal". Judging by his reaction, the protagonist doesn't like the joke.
