* NewWeaponTargetRange: Zero Ranger mode is capable of slowing/destroying shots, can gain twice as high of a score multiplier if it destroys enough targets to do so, and all of its weapons are good at hurting multiple enemies simultaneously in melee range. The boss that appears right after you acquire this powerup is perfectly suited to be taken out with Zero Ranger mode: its shots are quite fast and numerous (unless slowed down with Zero Ranger mode), it lasts a decently long time for the player to build score multiplier on it, and its TurnsRed phase covers its wings with [[GoForTheEye turret-like eyes, perfect to eliminate en-masse with Zero Ranger mode]]. The giant masses of enemies in the following level are likewise perfect to cleave through with Zero Ranger mode, and using it for almost the entire level isn't a tall order.

* StanceSystem: Zero Ranger mode deals a lot of damage, can slow or outright parry most projectiles, and enables the ScoreMultiplier to go into overdrive at double its normal maximum value, but comes at the cost of only having a single attack with incredibly short range. This means the ship/normal mode maintains some use and through skilled use of both score high.

* DoWellButNotPerfect: Obtaining the "Lightning Battle" achievement requires you to complete White Vanilla / Light Mode in 15 minutes or less. However, should you unlock the TrueFinalBoss, the time spent fighting that ''will'' count, meaning you can fail the achievement by trying to fight said boss. Getting destroyed after the true last boss has started will end your run and count it as completed, so you actually want to [[ThrowingTheFight throw the fight]] if you want the achievement. You ''can'' circumvent this by [[CuttingTheKnot simply getting to that boss in 13 minutes or less]] (the boss is on a 2-minute time limit), but it's easier said than done.

** You don't want to take out every enemy you encounter as fast as possible. While bonus targets will appear after getting through certain segments quickly, others lack any such reward; in the latter case, blowing up the {{mook}}s too quickly will cause the screen to be devoid of any enemies to target, and as such your score multiplier will tank. This specific case is {{averted}} in White Vanilla mode, where defeating all enemies onscreen causes the level to rapidly progress faster than usual to spawn more in.

Weapon 3 (the lock-on missiles) is capable of shooting enemies in the background. When you return to the city, you can use it to target the last enemy in the chain; doing so will cause Arc Adder to exclaim a frustrated "[[GoshDangItToHeck fusk!]]" at your KillSteal.

The game receives annual updates every year to fix bugs and provide subtle quality-of-life changes. A third game mode to fill the remaining slot on the mode select is currently in development. In the meantime, System Erasure released another game, ''VideoGame/VoidStranger'', in 2023, which is also the one year that ''[=ZeroRanger=]'' did not get an annual update.

* ColorfulThemeNaming: The playable characters Mido and Dori combine their names to make "midori", [[BilingualBonus which is Japanese for green]]. The pilot of the Grapefruit is named Renji, after orange. And the BigBad is [[ExaggeratedTrope literally just named "Green Orange"]].
* ColorMotif: Everything in the game that isn't black or white is either green or orange. Generally speaking, green means safe, and orange means dangerous. The player ships, stage walls, and enemies (who, unlike most shmups, DON'T [[CollisionDamage kill you on contact]]) are green, while enemy bullets and other sources of harm are orange. In addition, there's the ColorfulThemeNaming listed above, the fighters are named Grapefruit, Rybb, and Decker after a Finnish brand of vividly orange grapefruit juice, and the game gives you trivia about oranges and the color orange after every game over.
** [[spoiler: Most of the motif is removed in the Great Oppressor timeline as part of making the game more generic; the color palette is now changeable in the menu and the default palette swaps the green for a more generic metal grey, the theme naming is undone as Green Orange is now Great Oppressor, and Mido, Dori, and Renji's names are never mentioned, which, considering the game's [[AllThereInTheManual Steam trading cards]] are all alternate versions of Mido and Dori with different names, means there's a chance that their names have changed as well, and the orange trivia is removed.]]
