* AnachronicOrder: Although this game and ''Acceleration of SUGURI'' were released before ''sora'' and its follow-up, the events that events that happen in these games are different from their time of release. Chronologically, the story goes in this order: ''sora'' (Tutorial-Stage 7) → ''SUGURI'' → ''Acceleration of SUGURI X-Edition'' (the Story Mode scenarios and Extra Stories) → [[spoiler:''sora'' (Stage EX)]] → ''acceleration of SUGURI 2''.

* LighterAndSofter: Contrasted to the {{darker|AndEdgier}} tone of ''sora'', ''SUGURI''[='=]s setting and the planet itself is much livelier with stages featuring a thriving forest, clear blue oceans, and vibrant skies. Although the plot of the game revolves stopping the threat of planetary annihilation, many of the characters Suguri runs into are much more endearing and lighthearted, despite their intent of wiping out all life on Earth [[spoiler:as part of Shifu's orders]], with some comical dialogue thrown in. The soundtrack is much higher in energy and tempo, also adding to the lighthearted surface of the game.

* ClassicCheatCode: The Steam re-release implements a KonamiCode which can be entered in the from the pause menu. Entering this code will give you near-invincibility to attacks and recovery, but also [[NoFairCheating locks you out of getting achievements]] until you relaunch the game.

[[spoiler:Suguri also even befriend Sora, who initially attacked her and Hime out of [[ShellShockedVeteran PTSD-driven rage]], but she was able to calm Sora down and shown her that her efforts to help save Earth were not in vein.]]

* OlderThanTheyLook: Suguri is [[strike:at least 20-years-old]] [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld over 10,000-years-old]] by the start of the series.

* {{Overheating}}: To discourage players from simply dashing their way through the game most of the attacks in these games, players build up a "Heat" as they dash, which also increases the damage they take.

* WaveMotionGun: The Beam Rifle's Hyper Attack and the Buster weapon. Iru also possess one.

* GoMadFromTheIsolation: [[spoiler:Kae has, as demonstrated by her extra story, developed a crippling fear of both darkness and silence after Shifu [[KickTheDog ordered her to stay in a dark room without moving or talking until he called her.]] Given the time scale of the series she might have spent months or even ''years'' like that, unable to go against the orders but desperately afraid and lonely. She seems to be slowly getting better thanks to Nanako's company at night.]]
