** After the first episode, Keith David is replaced with Kevin Michael Richardson [[note]] doing a rather spot-on impression of David [[[/note]] in the role of Tombstone.

* IKnewIt: In the first season, we are introduced to the Green Goblin. Most people by now know that [[spoiler: Norman Osborn]] is the Green Goblin, and at first the show didn't do much to deny this, giving several indications that it was he. Then later that season, we were shown that it was in fact [[spoiler: Harry Osborn]]. When Goblin made his return in the second season, the final episodes played up the idea that other people could be the Goblin, giving the audience some very serious misdirection. Of course, all of this was proven to be just subterfuge, as in the final episode it was revealed that the Goblin had, in fact, been [[spoiler: Norman Osborn]] all along. Adding to the confusion, of course, was the fact that [[spoiler:Harry Osborn]] was ''also'' the Goblin in the comics for a while.

** Creator/ClancyBrown is known more often as a man who plays MagnificentBastard type characters, or outright amoral ones. Here he plays [[TheBrute the brutish]] [[DumbMuscle Rhino]] and Captain [[TheCommissionerGordon George]] [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure Stacy]].

** Weisman also planned to make Mary Jane to become Peter's main love interest eventually but he wanted to imitate their romance in the comics and their parallel character development, whereby both of them would mature with RomanticFalseLead (Mark Raxton for MJ, Liz and Gwen for Peter) before starting their relationship for real.

*** In addition to the Venom spin-off, Weisman talked about the possibility of expanding his version of the Marvel Universe with other shows following other teams. One idea was to introduce Hobie Brown as the Prowler and have him team up with Silver Sable (and possibly Venom) as an anti-hero team. He also talked about integrating other Marvel characters and spinning them off into their own shows. This included the Human Torch (leading to a ComicBook/FantasticFour spin-off), Captain America and the Hulk (leading to an ComicBook/Avengers spin-off), and Beast and Cyclops (leading to an ComicBook/XMen spin-off). Part of the trade-off with not being able to use the Kingpin was that Weisman considered making a ComicBook/((Daredevil}} spin-off.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The main showrunner, Creator/GregWeisman, had rough plans for a total of sixty-five episodes, which was thirty-nine more than what we got.
*** The Scorpion, The Hobgoblin, Mister Negative, Hydro-Man, and Carnage were slated to appear in the third season of the series. Morris Bench and Cletus Kasady both had brief [[Main/EarlyBirdCameo cameos]] in the second season, with the former being voiced by Creator/BillFagerbakke.
*** Weisman also expressed interest in using ComicBook/TheKingpin, as a BigBad on the show, but was unable to due to the fact that, while the character originated as a Spider-Man villain, Marvel [[RoguesGalleryTransplant now has Fisk officially classified as the arch-enemy of]] ComicBook/{{Daredevil}}, whom Sony did not have the rights to. As a result, the character Tombstone was used as a SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute.
*** Weisman's aspirations also included finishing the series with Peter's graduation from High School, then doing four straight-to-DVD movies, covering Peter's college years.

** There's a small deleted scene from "Group Therapy" that explains how Shocker escaped from police custody and was free by "Probably Cause". However, it was cut for time and was meant to be included in the extended cut DVD release. Those plans were scrapped as well, so now it's shown by Weisman at conventions.
