----
* ActorAllusion: In the episode "First Steps," the Sandman is obsessed with getting his "big score." The same actor voiced Bender in WesternAnimation/Futurama, including the movie Bender's Big Score.
* ChannelHop - Moved to Creator/DisneyXD from [=CW4Kids=] in March 2009.
* ContestWinnerCameo - There was an advertised contest for a given school to appear in a future episode. Appeared in "Gangland".
* TheDanza - Creator/StanLee as Stan the Dockworker.
* ExecutiveMeddling - The original plan was to create extra material for each episode, then use it to edit each Story Arc into a movie for the DVD releases. But only the first arc was released like this before Sony switched to just plain episodes on DVD, leaving extra footage we might not ever see.
* FanNickname: Many.
** THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-BRO.
** Doc Ock has two. Pre-breakdown is "D'awwwc Ock", post- is "DOCTOR OCTOPUS, LORD OF THE VAMPIRES" due to his rather vampire-esque attire in "Gangland".
** Due to the various girls that Peter/Spidey attracts, fans have decided to rename the show "BITCHES LOVE SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES".
* IKnewIt: In the first season, we are introduced to the Green Goblin. Most people by now know that is the Green Goblin, and at first the show didn't do much to deny this, giving several indications that it was he. Then later that season, we were shown that it was in fact . When Goblin made his return in the second season, the final episodes played up the idea that other people could be the Goblin, giving the audience some very serious misdirection. Of course, all of this was proven to be just subterfuge, as in the final episode it was revealed that the Goblin had, in fact, been all along.
** Adding to the confusion, of course, was the fact that was also the Goblin in the comics for a while.
* NamesTheSame: A variant; Weisman has admitted that part of the reason Silvermane and Silver Sable are related here is because they both have "Silver" in their names.
** Ricochet takes the name of another unrelated Marvel character for his superpowered identity.
* TheOtherDarrin - After the first episode, Keith David is replaced with Kevin Michael Richardson in the role of Tombstone. In the Enforcers' debut, Creator/ClancyBrown did Ox's grunts, but when the Enforcers returned in season 2 and Ox actually speaks, he was voiced by Creator/DannyTrejo.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Creator/ClancyBrown is known more often as a man who plays MagnificentBastard type characters, or outright amoral ones. Here he plays the brutish Rhino and George Stacey.
** Creator/KellyHu, who usually plays Action Girls (Action Girl or otherwise), voices average high-school student Sha Shan Nguyen.
** Creator/BenDiskin, who usually plays heroes, voices the villainous and psychotic Venom.
** Creator/SteveBlum normally voices calm characters with lower voices. Here, he voices the loud, scenery-chewing and high-pitched Green Goblin.
* RelationshipVoiceActor: Many voice actors from one of Creator/GregWeisman's other show. Gargoyles appeared--Goliath/Thailog was the first voice for Tombstone, Hudson was Uncle Ben, Brooklyn/Owen Burnett/the Magus was Shocker/Bernard/St. John Devereaux, Broadway was Morris Bench (again), Lexington as the Tinkerer, Matt Bluestone was Stan Carter, Hakon/Tomas Brod/Wolf was Captain Stacy/Rhino, Hyena was Glory Grant, Princess Katherine/Ophelia/The Weird Sisters/Maggie Reed was Martha Connors/Anna Watson, and Coldsteel was Mysterio. As noted below, had Season 3 appeared, we could've added Demona as Emily Osborn to the list.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: Unlike most cases of the trope, there was no malice behind the cancellation of the show, but victim of poor timing. After Disney's purchase of Marvel, Sony gave up the broadcasting rights of airing Spider-Man TV shows during negotiations to keep their film rights Which are obviously far more lucrative. Rather than drafting up a new contract to continue the production of Spectacular Spider-Man, Marvel and Disney decided to just go forward with a new show instead.
* ShortRunInPeru - Canada aired the entire second season before the US even started on it. And then Disney put it on hiatus midway through…
* TalkingToHimself - Several instances.
** Of special note has to go to the symbiote, whoever he bonds with, the character's voice actor does the voice of the symbiote, doing a more twisted and freaky voice as the symbiote.
** Not seen in action, but Creator/PhilLaMarr also voices Randy's father and Daily Bugle editor, Robbie Robertson.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The show's head honcho, Creator/GregWeisman, had rough plans for a total of 65 episodes (39 more than what we got). He also had plans for Hobgoblin, Scorpion, and Hydro-Man.
** Weisman wanted using Wilson Fisk, AKA ComicBook/TheKingpin, as a BigBad on the show, but was unable to. This is due to the fact that, while the character originated as a Spider-Man villain, Marvel now has Fisk officially classified as the arch-enemy of ComicBook/Daredevil, whom Sony did not have the rights to. As a result, the character Tombstone was used as an expy of sorts.
** And there were also rumors about Carnage (Cletus Kassidy was seen in season 2) as well as the Clone Saga (Miles Warren gained full control over Curt Connors' lab at the end of season 2).
** Emily Osborn was to have been given a larger role and was to be voiced by Marina Sirtis, a.k.a. Demona.
** Weisman's aspirations also included finishing the series with Peter's graduation from High School, then doing four straight to DVD movies, covering Peter's college years.
** Christopher Yost was up for the executive producer job on Spectacular Spider-Man. They went with Weisman instead. https://twitter.com/yost/status/209086069159886848
** Weisman said that had the show continued, he considered using Mr. Negative.
** Weisman also planned to make Mary Jane to become Peter's main love interest at some point down the line. Which becomes interesting if we consider that he also decided to NOT .
* WordOfGod: Mark Allen is Mark Raxton and Bennett Brant.
