** Emboar has been called [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganon, Ganonpork, Gammondorf]], and [[LordOfTheRings Hamdalf]].

** Thanks to [[{{Mondegreen}} people mishearing his battle theme]], Ghetsis is often jokingly called "DENNIS". For a short while, it also applied to Genesect when dataminers assumed Ghetsis' battle music belonged to it. Other nicknames for Ghetsis include [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Geechisu, Geetis]] and (thanks to Website/FourChan) Gaycheese.

** "Plankster" "Jokirder" and "Clowncrete" for Timburr, Gurdurr, and Conkeldurr respectively. Timburr is also called [[WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy Jonny]] quite a bit for that plank it carries around all the time.

** The Elite Four was nicknamed "Mystery Inc." due to a few resemblances to the titular Scooby Doo characters. Shauntal being Velma, Grimsley being Shaggy, Caitlin being Daphne, and Marshal being Fred.

* GodNeverSaidThat: ''Pokemon Sunday'' reported that "No old characters like Oak will appear", which mutated and really got confusing when some Gen IV characters showed up in the games.

** Bianca (the rival) has the same name as Bianca (a character from ''[[Anime/PokemonHeroes the fifth movie]]'' of the anime).
** Pokémon Black Version was the name of the game from a popular [[HauntedTechnology Haunted Cartridge]] CreepyPasta. The 'pasta itself was later renamed Pokémon Creepy Black in the wake of the Gen 5 games' release.

** With Victini, Reshiram and Zekrom being the first Pokémon to be hard-coded into never being Shiny, many rumors on how to get them to appear as such -- fueled by the existence of Shiny sprites for all three in the data -- circulated. However, outside of hacking, it's impossible to get them (in the Gen V games, anyway).

** Deino, Zweilous and Hydreigon were originally intended to be cybernetic dragons incorporating aspects of [[TankGoodness tanks]] within their bodies. The track-like markings on their bellies seem to be a remnant of this.

Though, there have been several instances of faked screenshots and [=CoroCoro=] pages being hidden among legitimate releases from [=CoroCoro=] and Pokémon Sunday by some of the people who leak them. The problem is getting worse every single time a new batch of info is released. Justified in that there are legions of fan websites ready to debunk these rumors as well as long-time fans that are probably know better. This hasn't stopped the occasional hastily added entries to this page, however.

** [[WordOfGod It was revealed in an interview]] that the Pokemon Professor was originally going to be a middle-aged man with a much older father.
