However, some fanfics treat it like her catchphrase, having her threatening to "send [someone] to a nightmare world" every time she gets angry.

** Another objection Nick had was the apparent demise of "Pig-Boy", a student which Dib unintentionally offends which results in him jumping out a window and [[MadeOfExplodium inexplicably exploding]] offscreen. Apparently, when confronted about the scene about Pig-Boy's death, Jhonen responded "he didn't die! In fact, he was so full of life that he ''flew away!''" and thusly changed the scene to have Pig-Boy jump from the window and soar into the sky. According to Jhonen, Nickelodeon failed to share his sense of humor about it, but [[ThrowItIn allowed the edited scene to air anyways]].

* PopCultureUrbanLegends: ''Invader Zim'' tends to be a major victim of this thanks to the combination of GodNeverSaidThat and TrollingCreator, with the alleged and eventually debunked "Invader Dib" being one of the longest-lasting of these. Said to be the intended GrandFinale, it was going to be a three-part episode/television movie wherein Dib would travel to Irk and attempt to take over or destroy the Irken race. This would lead to a large war with Dib, the Meekrob, and The Resisty on one side, and Zim, the rest of the Irken, and even Gaz on the other. How this would have ended depends on the source, with the common ending having Zim win, somehow becoming the new Tallest, and banishing Dib to Saturn/turning him into a military test subject. This was eventually found to be a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWDfW1Uuth8 complete fabrication that originated on fan wikis]]. When pressed at an [=InvaderCon=] panel about how he would have ended the series, creator Jhonen Vasquez loosely described a completely different plot wherein everyone joins together against a new galaxy-spanning threat. Head writer Eric Truehart would follow this up, both in later convention appearances and in his book ''The Medium-Sized Book of Zim Scripts: Vol 1: Pigs 'n' Waffles'', by additionally stating that no TV movie was even proposed during the show's run (much less an outlined or scripted "Invader Dib"), and if there were any ideas for a proper finale, they resided purely in Jhonen's mind.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Jhonen Vasquez admitted that, as misanthropic as the show already was, Dib's abusive sister and neglectful father were ''too'' cruel to find funny, and when creating the comics, rewrote Gaz from a FlatCharacter to a more dynamic AnnoyingYoungerSibling (notably in Issue 14) and had Professor Membrane interacting with his children a little more. This extended into ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZimEnterTheFlorpus'', which firmly shows that the Membranes love each other in spite of their dysfunction. All to make the cruelty funnier, of course.

** Due the show's proximity to 9/11, some elements (firefighters watching the slow explosion from their fire truck in Walk For Your Lives, vision of destroyed New York in Door to Door) were [[DistancedFromCurrentEvents deemed too offensive to air]]. The explosion was turned green instead of orange, the firefighter gag was removed and a new "horrible future" vision (that was somehow more destructive than the original one) was produced for Door to Door. Jhonen Vasquez said he preferred the new vision to the old one, as it was more violent.

Also Nick seriously considered banning "The Girl Who Cried Gnome" from airing at all due to a scene where the rescue workers attempt to rescue a girl from Zim's Gnomes(as Nick thought it could be seen as insensitive to the rescue workers at Ground Zero)but instead they just post-poned it before finally airing it in 2006.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** According to [[https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9eKOqh-E5WPa3hLTGFiS0MzS0k/view?pref=2&pli=1 the show's original pitch bible]], the show was intended to be in a format similar to ''WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}}'', ''WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow'', and ''WesternAnimation/RockyAndBullwinkle'', with short interludes appearing in between episodes.
** Wally Wingert was originally cast as Almighty Tallest Purple but was recast as Red when Kevin [=McDonald=] became available.
** Before pitching the ''Zim'' idea, Jhonen Vasquez and Nickelodeon toyed with adapting his comic ''ComicBook/{{Squee}}'', but quickly decided that, while it ''starred'' a child, it [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids was definitely not child-friendly]]. Jhonen was also reluctant to adapt his previous work, fearing it might ruin the comic's integrity if it turned out badly. Some aspects of the comic still appeared in the show, such as the aliens in "Abducted," Miss Bitters and the school being called "skool" (the gag of the children climbing out the windows once classes let out was also from the comic).
** The show's aesthetic was originally more of a 1950s B-movie spoof. It barely got to development before Jhonen realized that he hated doing something that predictable.
** Danielle Koenig's original script for "Vindicated" had Dwicky genuinely believing Dib. She refers to the change as Jhonen having "mangled" it, but she didn't sound as annoyed about it as her word choice might lead one to believe.
** Another commentary tidbit is that Iggins was originally slated to die at the end of "Game Slave 2," but ExecutiveMeddling prevented that.
** In "Door To Door," the kids shoveling sausages into their mouths were originally going to be eating cockroaches, hence the sausages' bug-like design and coloring. Nick said it was too disgusting.
** In a [[http://www.questionsleep.com/mindspill/?p=1742 blog post]] Jhonen noted the original script for "Gaz: Taster of Pork" simply ended with Dib defeating the Porklord and then sharing pizza with Gaz. Eric Trueheart came up with the ending we got instead.
** Creator/MarkHamill was originally considered for the role of Zim, but was dismissed by Nickelodeon for sounding too old.
*** Billy West was also considered, and his voice is Zim's in the original pilot, available on Youtube. However, with ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' already on the air, Jhonen didn't want West's voice in two sci-fi shows at the same time, citing it to be too recognizable across both shows.
** Skoodge's SIR unit would have appeared in a cancelled episode. Its name was CHIPZ.
** [[WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}} Tommy Pickles]] was going to be one of the Nhar-Gh'ok. Naturally, Nickelodeon did not approve.
** Being huge fans of Creator/MontyPython, the creators wanted to get Terry Jones and Eric Idle to voice the two aliens in "Abducted," but scheduling conflicts prevented it.
** Pipi the hamster from "Hamstergedon" was originally named Mr. Boodles, but Jhonen thought "Pipi" was funnier for [[ToiletHumor obvious reasons]].
** When GIR self-destructs in "Dib's Wonderful Life Of Doom," his exclamation of "FINALLY!" was originally supposed to be "SWEET RELEASE!" Nickelodeon asked that it be changed to something less suicidal-sounding.
** In 2010, Creator/{{Nicktoons}} spent a month heavily rerunning the show, even giving it a 24-hour marathon at one point. According to Jhonen Vazquez, this was Nickelodeon testing the waters to see if it was feasible to bring back the show for another season. Despite the reruns doing extremely well in ratings, it was ultimately decided that a revival would be too expensive. The network would continue to float the idea of a new season/series around for several years however, and regularly inquire about Vasquez's interest in returning. In addition, prior to deciding on doing a television movie, Jhonen proposed a six-episode miniseries before realizing that such a project would make him miserable.
** Mini-Moose is introduced as Zim's other sidekick, who'd been present all along. Subsequent episodes would have flashbacks with Mini-Moose crudely photoshopped into existing episodes as a gag, but the show's cancellation came before this could be realized.
** Ms. Bitters was supposed to have more random flashbacks, like the "fairy princess" or "hideous implosion" ones, but they kept being cut for time. Her comment about "having a Valentine once" was also apparently supposed to show [[DidYouJustRomanceCthulhu a bunch of tentacles]].
** ''Tak: The Hideous New Girl'' was originally planned to be an hour-long episode, but Nickelodeon asked the crew to keep it down to being a half-hour.
** Had the show continued, there would have been stronger continuity and more reoccurring characters. For example, it would have been revealed that after the events of "Hobo 13", Invader Skoodge was now living in Zim's basement as a permanent roommate, Tak would have become a reoccurring antagonist, the very minor character Invader Tenn would have had more, plot-important appearances, and it would have been revealed the inhabitants of her designated planet, the Meekrob (seen in the show only as artificial illusions in "Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom"), were allied with the Resisty and would have eventually led an all-out attack on the Irken Empire in a two-part finale of season two, supposedly followed by a three-part series finale.
