There's a technical margin if you count the Kid Dracula games, which certainly doesn't seem like the case until you realize the X68000 game was only released a few short months before Rondo of Blood, so it's hard to say with absolute certainty how long "Dracula X" was planned to be part of the title.

* WordOfGod: IGA and A.S.Minakata state in pg. 126 of ''[[VideoGame/CastlevaniaTheDraculaXChronicles The Dracula X Chronicles]]''' [[http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/cv-rob/tdxc-guidebook.htm official Japanese guidebook]] that they think the MysteriousWatcher in Stage 3' is Dracula, although the [[UsefulNotes/PlayStationPortable PSP]] [[VideoGameRemake remake]] adds a wide hat to this figure. IGA also states that "X" in "Dracula X" was originally supposed to stand for the Roman numeral, as ''Rondo of Blood'' is technically the tenth game released in the ''Castlevania'' series[[note]]counting Simon Belmont retellings such as the UsefulNotes/{{MSX}}2 and [[UsefulNotes/SharpX68000 X68000]] iterations[[/note]], but it began to be thought of as its own sub-series at the time, as the Tokyo office had creative freedom from the Kobe office.

There's so little info that this could be the same project that was shaping to be its own thing (think how the SNES Dracula X became a virtually different game, or the many retellings of Simon Belmont).

There's a lot of confusion regarding the title "The Bloodletting" (likely a very early title for Symphony possibly when it had more Bloodlines elements) that fans ought to have cleaned up by now, but the fact that multiple sources say that "Dracula X" was to be released for both SNES and Sega 32X and at least one of them went into preliminary details in how the 32X version differs from the PC Engine original probably meant that Rondo of Blood was intended to have a sequel AND a port in tandem.
