They are faster, stronger, and harder to hurt than humans, but their wings are implied to be made of something closer to metal than keratin, making them bulletproof to small arms, while heavier weaponry and the angel's own blades are the only things that can cut through them. Played straight with Lower Angels. Unlike Higher Angels, Lower Angels cannot manifest a physical body on their own; they are purely spiritual, meaning they have to possess humans to exist on the mortal plane. Michael notes that any instance of a "true" DemonicPossession isn't demonic at all, but rather, Lower Angels. However, it is easy to see from a Lower Angel possessing someone where humans got the idea from. Upon possession, the human gains black TaintedVeins, BlackEyesOfEvil (hence why the humans dub them "8-Balls"), needle-sharp teeth, and CharlesAtlasSuperpower (thankfully not to the extent of Higher Angels).
