* ScrewedByTheLawyers: One reason that the "coffee shop" scene in Part 2 was reshot, in spite the continuity issues it created, was to avoid trouble with Starbucks.
** The original "Late Matters Not" script during the ''Mountain of Cabal'' working title phase called for an explicit discussion of scandals surrounding protests of the Ice Mountain bottling plant in Stanwood, MI in TheNineties. While there was a car accident-related injury, cleanup fraud leading to murder was not a major issue in RealLife. Certainly nothing happened on the scale of what is shown in the video.

* SlidingScaleOfGenderInequality: The miniseries is at a 1 quite solidly. Ashley only gets two lines of dialog, and then disappears without a trace. Monica's only real role is to waste time getting her things, which buys Chris and Kyle just enough time to find her and Aaron and take them prisoner. Otherwise, women are fairly nonexistent in this world.
** The novel is closer to a 2.5, with TheBechdelTest barely squeezing by as Ashley and Meredith briefly share a conversation about how their testimony will be used to dismantle Sleet Mountain and Gleeful-N-Young as companies. Meredith and her mother Wanda are the only real "empowered" women in any sense of the word, and they rarely do anything until the final act. It's Meredith's purity that allows her to defy the general trend of AllWomenAreLustful. Monica tries to make herself useful for something other than a lab rat / babysitter / sex object for Vance - but fails. Ashley serves little purpose other than to be used by Clyde as a HoneyTrap for Mark.

However, [[FridgeLogic one has to wonder]] about the fact that Chris [[PoorCommunicationKills never bothered to explain to them]] that Mark had a twin brother. One would also think that they'd check his pockets and ID, which would have tipped them off just as much as his ignorance that he wasn't Mark. For this one scene, George and Kyle [[PlotInducedStupidity were required]] to carry an IdiotBall.

of Ashley Phillips has only two lines of dialog in one scene in Part 5. But it serves as a lure to get Mark to open the door. If not for that, the plot would have gone nowhere.

* TheFaceless: Clyde. The one time in the 2009 videos that he is seen, at the very end of Part 5, only his right arm and the back of part of his head are visible...as he's talking on a cell phone. The short-lived Utterly Sims download titled ''The Blood Over Water Complete Cast'' contained [[VideoGame/TheSims a Sim]] of Clyde. [[note]]It was taken down because the Dozerfleet founder was protesting EA's support for [[InsistentTerminology Crooked Pseudomarriage]], while bashing traditional marriage. Dozerfleet Productions made a point of defending Chik-Fil-A during the bad publicity and harassment in received in 2012 from gay activists who overstepped their bounds. Only further aggravated by news of the Floyd Corkins shooting rampage at Family Research Council, which prompted The Dozerfleet Blog and Wilinski Forest to adopt a "Stop the [[GayNgster Crooked Rainbow]]" campaign to deal with the under-reported issue of gay-on-straight violence.[[/note]]

''Blood Over Water'' is the brainchild of six TV practicum class students in the fall semester of 2009 at Ferris State University. But it became something more than the [[SmallNameBigEgo (not-so) humble]] class project it started out as. The six students included the founder of Dozerfleet Productions, the same entertainment think tank behind the CiemWebcomicSeries, the fanfic of ''[[{{Fanfic/Q-Basic Gorillas}} Q-Basic Gorillas]]'', and ''DarthWiki/StationeryVoyagers''. The other five students included a video freelancer (Zach), a videographer for BNP Media (Kyle), and event assistant for the Michael Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (Cassie), a football player who would later become an associate for Star Power Entertainment and Marketing (Chris), and a criminal justice major that later attended the New York Institute of Technology (Angelica).

The mini-series began life as a drama project, to set the Wednesday night class apart from the Thursday night class, which made social issue documentaries. Given that "instructor" Nathan Meadows was [[HippieTeacher big on environmental issues]], the only major requirement for class was that an [[GreenAesop environmental theme]] be shoehorned into the plot ''somehow''. The result was a four-month-long adventure in filmmaking, one which forever changed the six students partaking of it as they learned about [[FinaglesLaw everything that could possibly go wrong with a production]].

The show has had numerous [[WorkingTitle working titles]], and was originally going to be called ''The Widower and the Conpiracy''. It then became ''The Widow and the Conspiracy'', then ''Kozerlen''. ''Kozerlen'' was then re-worked to have a twin brother go missing, rather than the hero's spouse. This was because while Cassie was going to be cast as the heroine at one point, Zach took over the role. From there, it was renamed ''The Twin Conspiracy'' and later ''Mountain of Cabal''; before being renamed ''Bogged'' and finally settling on its current title.

* BadBadActing: Cassie's best attempts at portraying Monica come across as somewhat weak. She frequently complained about how much she hated having to play an on-camera role at all, preferring to work ''behind'' the camera as often as possible.
* BlandNameProduct: Sleet Mountain in the place of Ice Mountain. At one point, "Scarface" would have served as a replacement for Starbucks.

* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: In expansion material, Clyde keeps Ashley alive by having his goons hold her hostage. He does this so that in his spare time, he [[ThePeepingTom can watch]] [[HomePornMovie the videos]] they forced her to make. Otherwise, he would have ordered her killed after her role as a HoneyTrap for Mark.
** In the miniseries itself, Ashley is [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse never seen or mentioned again]] after she tricks Mark into opening the door.

* CreatorInJoke: Several of these made it in.
** The names Aaron and Mark were given to Zach's twins largely because Chris, the director, didn't like the names Alvin and Mike that others suggested. Their original last names of ''Monaco'' became the grounds for Cassie's character to be named "Monica," by which he tried to steal credit for what was essentially another classmate's idea.
** "Stefflin" is a deliberate corruption of the Dozerfleet founder's real last name, which was chosen because he was unable to make it to one of the group meetings.
** The Dozerfleet founder's character George was given that name because Zach was originally going to play a character named George Phillips-Stareemly in a sitcom called ''Mackley's Wardrobe'', which would have featured Zach and Angelica having to share screen time with a puppet named Mutt Mackley, whose mannerisms in the series pitch made him a rip-off of [[{{Series/ALF}} ALF]].
** George's only-visible-from-the-mouth-down scene was inspired by the pitch for ''Kozerlen'', in which this technique would have been incorporated into nearly every scene featuring Corvin the Caller.
** The dream sequence where Aaron sees a flashback of Mark's past was inspired by Cassie's ''The Widower and the Conspiracy'' pitch, which utilized a similar plot device.
** Angelica is given the fewest lines of dialog due to her adverse reaction to the thought of acting at all during the test run for ''Mackley's Wardrobe''. She admits having to keep a straight face while interacting with a puppet made things even more difficult, to the point of not wanting any lines in ''Blood Over Water''.

* DontTellMama: In the reboot/remake, this is Ashley's motivation for going along with Clyde's plan to have Mark assassinated. Although to be fair, she doesn't know that the plan is to actually kill him. The miniseries give no background or motivation for her actions whatsoever, implying she's purely there for greed.

* IndianSummer: One possible justification for the rapid weather changes that happen throughout [[WebcomicTime as a result of the production schedule]].

** Zach plays Aaron much more like this than he does Mark.
* LooseCanon: A reboot/remake of ''Blood Over Water'' as a novel or graphic novel series set would be canon to ''The Gerosha Chronicles'' in the Cataclysmic Gerosha timeline (Earth-G7)...even though only Chris Kennal is mentioned in ''Cataclysmic Horizons''. All other events from the 2009 video(s) are treated as "this sort of happened, but not as depicted." Otherwise, all events specific to ''Blood Over Water'' are depicted as if they were happening in a universe of their own apart from the greater world of Gerosha. (Meaning, no Hebbleskins lurking about, nor their monsters. No Phexos or Marlquaanites. No superheroes/supervillains in the neighborhood.)
** This isn't the only work considered even somewhat canon to operate this way. ''Sorbet'' may be about a girl who has to [[spoiler: stop a mugger]] with only the skills she earned from a [[spoiler:recurring dream]] about [[spoiler:killing zombies]], but virtually nothing about her experience ends up having an impact on the lives and events of any other big name in the Gerosha universe.
** ''Path of the Ming-Cho'' acknowledges the events of season 3 of ''Cataclysmic Horizons'' as canon, but does very little to give back. Almost nobody directly featuring in that series is shown playing a role in ''Path''. Instead, it's entirely a SideQuest involving (mostly) unrelated characters.
*** Even with the ''Gerosha Legends'' pack, it's not entirely necessary to know every single detail of every Sodality member's history to understand why they're in the Sodality in ''Cataclysmic Horizons''. For example, not every AssholeVictim that Extirpon has ever punished [[ContinuityPorn is going to become important later]].
** The mini-series portrayed in the 2009 videos is canon to Classic Gerosha (Earth G-5) and Comprehensive Gerosha (Earth G-6).
* MeaningfulName: The ''scientist'' in whom Aaron confides to ''expose'' the ''madness'' at Sleet ''Mountain'' is named...Monica ''Shelly''. Her surname was chosen, of course, because of MaryShelley.

* ScrewedByTheLawyers: One reason that the "coffee shop" scene in Part 2 was reshot, in spite the continuity issues it created, was to avoid trouble with Starbucks. The other was because the teacher thought Zach and Chris' portrayal of their characters' relationship was "too cold" to justify the line about Mark and Aaron treating Chris "like family." Sleet Mountain, a very obvious edit in the Part 2 reshoots, and a bad dub-over of "Sleet" into Part 3, were all part of efforts to avoid defaming Ice Mountain to avoid a lawsuit.

*** The music in question includes various tracks from the album ''FREAK'', located [[http://www.gmpmusic.com/album/?album_id=226 here]]. The end credits theme song is "[[http://www.gmpmusic.com/album/?volume_number=AV_165 Cheddarman]]," off the album ''Adrenaline Rush''.

* SmallNameBigEgo: A majority of the cast and crew had this problem, to the point that there was a ''lot'' of arguing about exactly ''how'' the story would be put together.
* SpearCarrier / SmallRoleBigImpact: Angelica's character of Ashley Phillips has only two lines of dialog in one scene in Part 5. But it serves as a lure to get Mark to open the door. If not for that, the plot would have gone nowhere.

* VerbalTic: Kyle says "well, what do you ''mean''" and "all right" quite often. Chris often begins lines with "yeah, yeah." Aaron stutters a lot.
** (Actor) Kyle's outtake of "Blatt'l be it" became a RunningGag, something he was teased for endlessly by (actor) Chris.

* WebcomicTime: The entire story supposedly takes place within about a week. But the ever-shifting weather patterns indicate that it only took one week to go from summer to winter. * AngstySurvivingTwin: Mark is very business-like and stuffy. And knows how to do everything...except [[AManIsAlwaysEager avoid death traps that involve women]]. Aaron is more of a messy slacker, but seems to have a better sense of self-control with women. When one twin goes missing, the other goes to ''crazy lengths'' to make sense of it.

* SeekingTheMissingFindingtheDead

* PsychoForHire: George Lawence. While other Sleet Mountain employees are willing to commit murder to cover up the cleanup fraud scandal, their motivations [[OnlyInItForTheMoney are about money]] and about [[DirtyCoward staying out of trouble]]. George is the only one who appears to be in it purely ForTheEvulz.

* IdiotPlot: If Sleet Mountain in general had done a better background check on Clyde, he'd never have been CEO. If Ashley had quit right away, she would never have been blackmailed into becoming an accessory to murder. (If she hadn't had an affair, it would have been harder for Clyde to blackmail her in the first place.) If Chris weren't blinded by his greed, he would've turned against Clyde ''before'' throwing friends under the bus. If he weren't such a moron, he would not have betrayed Angelica to Clyde's depraved sex ring shortly after she'd helped him carry out a murder. And wouldn't have to rescue her from repeated rape and torture to redeem himself for what he did to her.
