* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Marge's behaviour in this episode veers very close to mental abuse and emotional blackmail. After discovering Bart has shoplifted, she doesn't give him a punishment. Instead she responds by not showing him any affection and excluding him from family activities. The degree of this actually has Bart terrified he's hurt her forever and that she doesn't love him anymore. And when he does a big gesture for her, she immediately starts showing him affection and love again. Bear in mind Bart is ten years old and it's quite disturbing to wonder that Marge could have unknowingly been doing this intentionally.
** Her behavior came less from wanting to disown Bart and more from the fact that she was numbed from shock and wasn't really sure how to react. Her excluding him stemmed more from concerns that she was babying him too much.
*** She must've forgotten about the time Bart shoplifted candy bars in the Tracy Ullman short "Shoplifting"
* BadassSanta: In the video game commercial: Two children are bored playing a bloodless knock-off of ''MortalKombat'', when Santa's sleigh (pulled by two snarling reindeer) bursts through their living room wall. Santa is bulging with muscles and is heavily armed. ''"YOU WANT EXCITEMENT?!?! STICK '''THIS''' UP YOUR STOCKING!!!"'' He fires a video game cartridge via RPG into their port. It is an incredibly bloody BeatEmUp and the children (and Bart) are instantly enthralled. He closes the commercial saying ''"TELL YOUR PARENTS TO BUY YOU '''BONESTORM''', OR GO TO HELL!!!"''
