Asskicking Equals Authority has been renamed.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Played with. The pair of rogue Lapises disregard Crystal Gem Lapis as weak and pathetic until she makes a dramatic display of her power. Cowed and impressed, the pair agree to obey her after seeing her strength. At this point, "our" Lapis laments that she was still weak because she did not truly restrain herself in showing her power, a ''real'' act of strength.

* RefrainFromAssuming: The song in this episode is not "Why so Blue?", like the episode title and first line of the refrain, it's "Shining Through".

No longer a trope. Minimalist Cast covers this.

* AbsenteeActor: The only main characters present are Steven, voiced by Zach Callison, and Lapis, voiced by Jennifer Paz. Paz also does triple duty by voicing the remaining characters.

* ShadowArchetype: Lapis sees the two rogue Lapises as everything she hates about [[IHatePastMe her old self]]: a self-centered Gem who blindly did as she was told with complete disregard for all life around her.

* {{Hypocrite}}: In the eyes of the two Lapises, Steven is a hypocrite for espousing his philosophy of freedom and independence and then backpedaling to say that they're free to do anything they want with the exception of destroying planets.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Nice Lapis' incredulous reaction to being told that what she's always done is now considered wrong is similar to how real life people respond to values shifting and old attitudes being treated as offensive.

* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: The rogue Lapis Lazulis ignore any of Steven and Lapis' arguments, and only stop terraforming when Lapis forces them to. Their earlier methods don't go entirely to waste, as one of them come to Little Homeschool afterward.

** Our Lapis is revealed to be abnormally powerful for her Gem type, capable of curbstomping two others at once. This was foreshadowed by Jasper back in "[[Recap/StevenUniverseS3E15AloneAtSea Alone at Sea]]", who is incredibly impressed by her sheer power and implies it's abnormal.

Lapis then looks at Steven, who's not impressed as she was expecting, and decides to just demand they stop terraforming.

All statement of personal belief are not aesops of the work, especially when none of them said the "strong" thing is always going to work. Steven didn't take that much issue with Lapis resorting to force, he was just glad she didn't stomp them into the dirt after it was clear the fight was over.

* BrokenAesop: Lapis is of the opinion that brute physical power and violence are signs of weakness, and patience and understanding are strengths. Steven seems to agree. Yet this "enlightened" view was doing ''nothing'' to dissuade the other Lapises from terraforming and it was only Lapis's angry outburst of violence that finally convinced them to stop, even as she felt ashamed of it.

* RealityEnsues: While Steven's philosophy of freedom and independence is nice on paper, here it is taken to its natural conclusion when both Lapises take this as having the [[LackOfEmpathy "freedom"]] to continue HostileTerraforming on planets as they were made to do. When Steven and Lapis try to make that the exception to the rule, [[{{Hypocrite}} they can't help but notice the inconsistency]].
