* ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'' could be a prototype; it predates the rise of moe, but it follows the structure of many modern slice-of-life moe series with its almost entirely female cast of quirky characters and emphasis on their interactions and day-to-day lives, and is considered the TropeCodifier of [[SchoolgirlSeries such series]]. Unlike most moe series, the focus is more on humor than cuteness (the only character whose cuteness is really focused on in and out of universe is Chiyo) and the girl's personalities and quirks are PlayedForLaughs instead of {{Squee}}s. Special mention goes to [[CheerfulChild Chiyo]], [[HugeSchoolgirl Sakaki]], and [[SchoolgirlLesbian Kaorin]].

Most of the show is based purely on the "protective feeling" school of ''moe'', as the show is not "sexed up" in any way, and bears nary a hint of FanService. And then from left field comes the obligatory BeachEpisode ''Lovers of the Sun''. {{Gainaxing}}, {{Fanservice}}, and stretched-tight swimsuits suddenly leave the target audience at a loss. ** In one episode, Shinobu, who have a things for [[PhenotypeStereotype blonde]] [[ForeignCultureFetish british]] girls, [[TheGlomp glomp]] Alice and explicitly call her moe. Alice does'nt understand the meaning of the term.

Of special note is Yayoi/Cure Peace of ''Anime/SmilePrettyCure'': you know you're the popular one of the bunch when your first Toys/SHFiguarts figurine is of you and not the Pink-themed leader. And you follow that up with three Figuarts ZERO figures.

** Kittan of all people tends to be portrayed as moe in fan works (though that's usually only under [[{{Wimpification}} certain]] [[{{OOC}} circumstances]]).

* ''Manga/WatatenAnAngelFlewDownToMe'', despite its' sketchy concept of the main character being a college-aged woman obsessed with an elementary school girl, it manages to be a very cute show. Miyako's endearing awkwardness, Hinata's overwhelming energy, Hana being a DefrostingIceQueen BigEater, Noa's charisma and oversized ego, Koyori's ambition and constant failings, Kanon's unfailing kindness and etiquette, Matsumoto's attachment to Miyako - every character is endearing in their own way. Yuu takes it Up to Eleven by being a very endearing Cheerful Child that even the already lovable girls find adorable.
