** [[spoiler:Isshiki's final message to Code is cut in half in the anime, leaving out the mention of the Otsutsuki will and Code's desire to avenge his master before concluding what he started]].

** Code's design was first shown coloured in the anime, rather than the manga, this caused a couple of differences in the color palette. Notably: his ear rings are purple in the anime, grey in the manga; he has auburn eyes in the anime, but green in the manga; his cranio-facial prosthetic belt is light grey, almost white in the anime, but is black in the manga; he also has a visible scar beneath it in the manga, but not in the anime.
* AdaptationExpansion: In general, the anime greatly expands upon the source material, with manga arcs often being doubled in size, with anime original arcs serving to expand the universe and reinforce the ongoing major story. In contrast with the original series, in ''Boruto'' the anime original arcs are considered canon and even get referenced in the manga from time to time (and thus compared to the original series the anime-original arcs take greater care to keep the world building, lore and rules of the world consistent with the manga and overall feel more like part of a consistent story). Of course though, this doesn't mean that absolutely every anime episode is an example of this.

* {{Expy}}: Shojoji, based on his abilities and true nature - as a fat, ugly old man - inspires some connection to [[VideoGame/DarkSouls3 Aldrich, Saint of the Deep]] - both are voracious eaters of men, who show the ability to assimilate the abilities of what they eat, and actively enjoy devouring humans while seeking to transcend humanity. The sole difference is that Shojoji has not yet "softened into sludge" or moved on to higher order prey, though he is capable of distorting his body and extending his jaw to an uncanny degree.

* WeaponOfChoice: Several characters have personal preferences from the StockNinjaWeaponry they use.

* DotingGrandparent: Hinata's father Hiashi, who used to be a borderline AbusiveParent to his eldest daughter, absolutely ''adores'' his grandchildren. His first reaction upon seeing Boruto was to smother him and his sister in hugs.

** Ikemoto illustrates Chocho as a DarkSkinnedBlonde, while the anime follows Kishimoto's design as a DarkSkinnedRedhead.

*** Her BestFriend, Chocho Akimichi, is a {{Fiery|Redhead}} DarkSkinnedRedhead, with long auburn hair, whereas Sarada has {{Boyish Short|Hair}} {{Raven Hair|Ivory Skin}}. Chocho behaves like an eccentric confident diva and flips her hair a lot.

* AgeInappropriateDress: Sarada, Chocho and Sumire -- who are all in the range of 12 - 13 years old -- are all dressed up normally in the anime, but in the manga they all wear short tight-fitting dresses coupled with high heels. Sarada's redesign was particularly controversial since it also came with AbsoluteCleavage that went down to her waist.

* AbsoluteCleavage: If ''Anime/{{Naruto}}'' had Tsunade, in ''Boruto'', Delta displays the most impressive bust, prone to {{Gainaxing}}.
** Sometimes, when Boruto uses Sexy no Jutsu, he also displays huge boobs with low cuts.

* RomanticismVersusEnlightenment: A recurring theme in the series are using chakra in the traditional ways and the valor of hard work versus using chakra in science and getting powerful though bio-augmentation. According to Sasuke, neither way is bad, what matter are the intentions.

** UpToEleven with [[spoiler:Ao, whose body is mostly made up of Shinobi-Ware]], as a result of the injuries received during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

* PrisonEpisode: UpToEleven in the ''Mujina Bandits Arc'', which consists of 11 episodes, while 7 episodes have the plot happening in a prison called Hōzuki Castle. Mitsuki and Boruto have to go as undercover prisoners at Hōzuki Castle, while Sarada as an undercover journalist, to protect a guy called Kokuri from the Mujina Bandits.

** And speaking of synchronizing, Shikamaru and Shikadai take this UpToEleven, not only they happen to say "What a drag" in same time often, but even think the CatchPhrase on the same time.

* TargetedHumanSacrifice: ''Boruto'' takes this [[UpToEleven to extremes.]] In Chapter 13, we learn that Tento has been kidnapped, and to make things worse, the BigBad doesn't plan to just kill him or collect a ransom; he wants to perform a Kinjutsu that gives him the victim's memories and appearance. How is this jutsu accomplished? '''[[ImAHumanitarian Biting off the top of the person's head while they're still alive and eating their brain tissue.]]'''

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The anime starts as having a sizable character roster from the very first arc, where the focus is on Boruto's generation going at the Ninja Academy. The ''School trip Arc'' and ''Versus Momoshiki Arc'' introduce characters from the other villages, and after them, the cast just kept increasing, to which one can add the humongous cast of Naruto that has regular appearances.

** Sarada does wear her manga dress during her academy time, sans the high heels, but instead of being short and tight, her dress is modest and loose. During ''Naruto Gaiden'', Sarada changes to her red {{Qipao}} and white pants with black leggings set and it remains her official outfit.

* {{Qipao}}: Kishimoto saw Sarada as a female version of Sasuke and he chose to give her a a ninja outfit that resembles Sakura's from her childhood, to emphases their similarities more.

** As noted above, Sarada is a BrainyBrunette with a sharp tongue and very DownToEarth.

** Kara brings in mind Akatsuki by being another OddlySmallOrganization with dangerous members, which wants to take over the world for mysterious reasons. Akatsuki was known for their {{Anti Villain}}s forging long-lasting friendships, but Kara is full members who are ready to betray and backstab each other at every turn. Just like some Akatsuki members, Kara also has members who augmented their bodies, but not through secret ninjutsu, but augmented science. And lastly, Kara don't regard themselves as ninjas like Akatsuki, but as something superior to ninjas.

** Averted also by Sakura, who mostly lost her HairTriggerTemper and mellowed down so much that even Hinata arguably now has more nerve and a scarier temper than her as an adult (admittedly in one of her rare times of snapping as an adult Sakura ended up wrecking her whole house).

* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: Chapter 55 reveals that [[spoiler:because of his usage of [[PowerAtAPrice Baryon Mode]], Naruto has permanently lost Kurama. Sasuke also confirms that when Momoshiki stabbed his Rinnegan, it rendered it unusable, possibly forever. As in, the two greatest ninja in the world have lost the very things that made them powerful, meaning they can no longer be last resorts if things go south in the fight against Kara.]]

** The Kāma seal of the Otsutsuki Clan. It's actual nature is still unknown, it's only use is to be [[spoiler:embedded in the vessel's body]], enhancing the user's physical abilities and absorbing ninjutsu attacks.

** [[spoiler: Karma, the mark of the Otsutsuki, which they will usually attempt to imprint onto a host in the event they are killed. Implied to be the precursor of the curse marks and seals employed by ninja throughout the franchise, it is in fact a small crystalline barb that implants itself into the skin of the target, granting the user the Otsutsuki's incredible power. However, the mark also transplants the genetic and cerebral information of the slain Otsutsuki onto its host. As it spreads, forming organic circuitry as it goes, this information overwrites the host and eventually they are fully transformed into the Otsutsuki who implanted it, resurrecting them. Jigen, Kawaki, and Boruto all possess one, though each received it in a different way.]] [[spoiler: It is later revealed that there is a lesser variation of the Karma seal, the white Karma, which, as the name suggests, is colored white instead of black, and lacks the possibility of overwriting the host's genetic code with its Otsutsuki, but for the rest, it is identical to a regular one.]]

* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: Sarada and Boruto suffer from this time to time. Both are capable of showy powerful jutsus that would end a fight in different matters, even if they would end up completely drained after. Boruto sometimes [[ForgotAboutHisPowers seems to forget about using techniques]] and his SuperReflexes, and just stares blank if an attack is dodged to him. Sarada is even worse at times, she inherited the franchise's biggest StoryBreakerPower, and sometimes she looks like [[ForgotAboutHisPowers she forgets she has it]]. Her resistance of using the Sharingan also fluctuates a lot. She can put up a long battle, fight an enemy, use genjutsu, copy and use multiple jutsus and keep her Sharingan activated without any problem, all in the same time, while on other times she faints from a single time using the Sharingan.

* SystematicVillainTakedown: Kara are taken down one by one. Deepa and Victor were the first ones to go down, then Garo was barely introduced and [[spoiler:already killed by Kawaki]], they were followed by Delta who battled Naruto, and Boro who fought Team 7. Jigen was the last one to be taken down.

* VillainousFriendship: In a group of people where everyone absolutely loathes each other, Jigen and Amado stand out for being the only ones respecting the other and caring for each other. Jigen trusts Amado enough to tell only him several of his fears of betrayal. [[spoiler: Subverted in the end, because Amado turns out to be the infiltrator]].

** Chocho sports two spiky ponytails with her RapunzelHair.

* RapunzelHair: There are characters with long hair like Chocho and Sumire, but the one who stands out is Yodo because she can turn her own hair into a weapon. She is the show's own Rapunzel with her long blond hair, and can use her hair to generates high-frequency sound waves that are capable of simultaneously disorienting the enemy and likewise able to slice the target.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Some characters have unusual hair color.
** Mitsuki has cyan-colored hair.
** Himawari inherited her mother's beautiful night-blue hair.
** Kashin Koji inherited Jiraiya's white hair color.
** Sumire has long purple hair.
** Three Senka Brothers are a set of triplets from Kirikagure who can be distinguished from each other only by their different shades of blue.
** The Haze Quadruplets all have violet hair.

* AdultFear:
** While this sequel averts the DarkAndTroubledPast and FreudianExcuse for the new generation, the children still follow the trend of becoming child soldiers trained to kill. The ninja world is genuinely a safer place for them to live than it was before the Great Ninja War, but it doesn't mean they won't face villains who couldn't care less about torturing or killing children. And the threat of Kaguya's remnants and the [[GreaterScopeVillain Otsutsuki Clan]] is still existent. Getting across that being a ninja is still serious and dangerous is one of Kakashi's goals when he tests the graduating class on if they really actually want to be ninja.
** Sasuke and Sakura themselves are rightfully worried about Sarada's curiosity about Mangekyou Sharingan. Sakura especially points out the tragedies she would have to face in order to acquire it. The Curse Of Hatred may be gone, but Sarada is still [[InTheBlood genetically prone]] to self-destructiveness. Besides, just the mere fact that she is a possessor of the Sharingan is more than enough to turn her into a target for villains who want the Sharingan.
** Hinata and Naruto don't do much better. Because their son is a LivingMacGuffin, he is constantly [[spoiler: hunted down by Otsutsuki and Kara]]. One day, they may risk losing their son to [[spoiler: EvilPossession]]. Himawari herself was already put in great danger.
** Even [[TheSociopath Orochimaru]] has to confront this problem with Mitsuki. He may say Mitsuki is just his perfect creation, but in reality, he cares for Mitsuki like a parent. When Mitsuki was gravely injured from using his Sage Mode, Orochimaru was visibly distressed.
** Kawaki, is a boy who was subjected for years to DomesticAbuse. His drunk father was [[spoiler: physically and emotionally abusive toward him]]; and right when he thought he would get a better life by joining Kara, Kawaki ends up [[spoiler: experimented on]]. Because of how much he had to suffer at the hands of people who were supposed to keep him safe, Kawaki exhibits PTDS and typical problematic behavior that one could meet in RealLife cases. [[spoiler:He lives with Uzumakis in present]], but Kara is still hunting him down.

** The manga on the other side, is chock full of fanservice coming from the female characters. Characters as young as Sarada, Sumire and Chocho can be seen wearing high heels, very short skirts and sometimes even PantyShots in the case of the former. The anime removed most of the fanservice scenes involving the three girls.

* ActionHoggingOpening: Boruto Opening 10 is very action-driven, it has all of Boruto's friends (except for Sumire) fighting a mysterious maskedd group who kidnapped Himawari and a {{Golem}} which destroyed Konoha. The actual StoryArc has nothing to do with the opening, is about Team 7 and Team 15 facing off a pirate clan in the Land of Water.

* AbusiveParents: Even in this era of peace, where good parents are the norm, there is here and there an example who will stand out.

* AliensSpeakingEnglish: Or in this case, aliens speaking Japanese. The Otsutsukis are a race of humanoid aliens who come from other dimensions and planets, yet they speak Japanese before ever coming to Earth. And not only, their natal language ''IS'' Japanese.

* AlwaysChaoticEvil: The Otsutsukis are devoid of any sympathetic trait, in the anime Kaguya describing them as having no comprehension of love and only understanding power. They are a species of completely sociopathic aliens who only seek to destroy other worlds. The only exception shown was Kaguya in ''Anime/NarutoShippuden'', before going mad from the Divine Fruit (and even then her emotional complexity and capacity for empathy was decidedly limited) and Toneri in ''Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie'' who pulled a HeelFaceTurn (and it took a beatdown from Naruto and his eyes getting ripped out by Hinata to stop him from destroying the Earth and forcibly marrying Hinata) and tries to help out Boruto from afar.

** Shinki is monumentally arrogant and takes great pride in his abilities. He is absolutely unwilling to recognize the power of other ninjas, unless they show respectable strength. And his defense, he did beat everyone in the Chunin Exams; Boruto had to cheat in order to defeat him. His motivation also isn't so much to put others down but to have his adoptive father acknowledge him as strong, Shinki believing his gratitude and admiration toward Naruto makes him think too highly of the rest of the Konoha ninja (who he thinks have become soft under Naruto's protection) and to underplay Shinki's own strength. He softens this view a bit when he hears of Boruto's bravery.

* BloodyMurder: Duringa bodygurading mission, Kawaki and Team 10 face a villain, Jujumaru, who's speciality are blood jutsu. He can create webs made of blood, control a person once they are hit by his blood and set up a barrage of deadly needles.

** Kara brings in mind Akatsuki by being another OddlySmallOrganization with dangerous members, who wants to take over the world for mysterious reasons. Akatsuki was known for their {{Anti Villain}}s forging long-lasting friendships, but Kara is full members who are ready to betray and backstab each other at every turn. * EmotionEater: Nue is a [[spoiler: yokai who prays on people negative emotions]] to harvest chakra.

* Really700YearsOld: [[spoiler:Jigen is at least one milenium old]].

* ShockAndAwe: Lightining Chakra Nature went from being one of the rarest chakra natures, to being quite common those days. The entire team 7 can use lightning jutsus, there is Chocho, who inherited from her mother, and Denki.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The way karma/Kāma can be spelled or translated is a bit tricky. ''Kāma'' is its own concept in the Hindu literature, different from ''karma'', and has the meaning of "longing" or "desire". In japanese, ''Kāma'' can be written as ''karma'', making no distinction between the words. The latter is used as the official translation in Western media.
** Is "Boruto" or "Bolt/Volt"? "Sarada", the hindu goddess or "Salad"?

* SymbolicallyBrokenObject: Himawari's vase that she created for her mother's birthday, has a certain significance to Kawaki's growth as a person after he carelessly breaks the vase. At Boruto's insistance, his tries to repair the vase, represents Kawaki's own self-healing. In his memories, Jigen always likened Kawaki to an empty vessel with a hole in it. After starting to repair the vase he is stressed out for not finding the last missing piece, and has a heart to heart conversation with Kurama in which he is told that Naruto himself was a vessel that filled the filled the void with the bonds Naruto created his entire life, leaving Kawaki in tears, realizing that he is not beyond repair. Himawari's vase is shown spilling water through the hole as if it was tears.

*** Ichirōta uses Shibuki, the blastsword.

* TimedMission: Sarada made a goal out of defeating Buntan by nine o'clock, which she does.

* {{Meganekko}}: Sarada's first important arc revolves around her glasses, so it's a given. She is fiery, but also sweet enough to qualify as the cute girl with glasses.

* HairColors: There are natural hair colors like the blond Boruto and Inojin, auburn-haired Chōchō or brunette Sarada, and then you have purple haired Sumire, blue haired Mitsuki, pink haired Sakura, white haired Kashin Koji, and silver haired Kakashi.

** The Otsutsukis all share same bluish silver hair, and unlike the rest of the clans, they don't have different shades of same haircolor.

** Happens again in episode 230, Crunchyroll translated Naruto's words to Kawaki as "You'll be accompanying me on missions as a genin.", when the more accurate translation would be "Your will take missions as a genin, under my supervision/authority." For example, the Spanish sub correctly translated the line as "Emprederas misiones como genin bajo mi supervision".

** Sasuke's being unable to/choosing not to see his daughter for years because of his mission is very reminiscent of NATO soldiers who are gone on the front for many years and can't go home because of their duties and miss seeing their children growing up.

* * ExtremelyShortTimespan: Everything from Chapter 36 to 54, ([[spoiler:Jigen vs Naruto and Sasuke, Team 7 vs Boro, Kashin Koji vs Jigen/Isshiki, Isshiki vs Naruto/Sasuke vs Momoshiki/Boruto]]), had take place in the span of less than 48 hours, based on Amado's declaration about Jigen needing to recover his full chakra in 2 days from chapter 39. That is almost 1.5 years of manga releases, all occurring in 1 day.

* Sarashi: In manga version, Sarada wears bandages in lieu of underwear, under her dress. In the anime, is a white undershirt.

* ThisIsMyStory: 'The story goes back in time several years from this point.

* TonightSomeoneDies: Not in a commercial, but the premiere of the anime starts with possibility of [[spoiler:Naruto dying at the hand of Kawaki]] somewhere in the future. Theimplications are many.
