* The accusation of incest with their mother has been levelled against many Roman emperors, but the primary source for this is ''Twelve Caesars'' by Suetonious, a writer who in some circles is thought of as a gossip columnist rather than a historian. It has been pointed out that Suetonious was not above spicing up a scroll on a safely-dead Emperor with embellished details, partly for the money and partly at the political behest of new rulers looking to discredit the old. Therefore a case can be made for at least some of the incest alligations to be treated as fabuluous or just made up, however sociopathinc that ewmperor might otherwise have been.

Compare/contrast BrotherSisterIncest, {{Twincest}}, ParentalIncest, KissingCousins, and OedipusComplex. If it's one-sided on the villain's part, it overlaps with IncestantAdmirer. If the child themselves is the abuser, they will be an AbusiveOffspring. Can cross over with FreudianExcuse if it's implied to be rooted in child abuse. It may be part of a RapeAsBackstory scenario, either for the villain themself, or whichever relative(s) were involved. If children result, expect them to be InbredAndEvil.

* A classic fairy tale found throughout Europe concerns, in various variations, a wicked older male relative pursuing a beautiful younger female niece or daughter. Thanks to gender taboos of the period, the fathers never undergo the punishments typical of {{Grimmification}} even though the stories otherwise condemn his actions. An even creepier variant, "The Girl with No Hands," is, well, nightmare fuel of the worst sort.

* In Finnish folktales, the villains, bogeymen, and monsters are assumed to have gotten their birth from villainous incest.

* In ''[[Literature/GarrettPI Red Iron Nights]]'', the serial-killer curse was created by a long-ago evil sorcerer who'd been rejected by an equally evil sorceress, in favor of her own father.

* In ''Literature/TheSilmarillion'', Maeglin lusts after his cousin Idril. His feelings are unreciprocated, partly due to the Noldorin incest taboo, partly because she marries someone else. Later, Maeglin betrays the location of the formerly hidden city to [[{{Satan}} Morgoth]] in exchange for lordship and possession of Idril.
** In ''The Fall of Númenor'', Ar-Pharazôn becomes the last king of Númenor by marrying the late king's daughter against her will. She's his first cousin. Pharazôn's ego and disregard for traditions simply made it that much easier for Sauron to corrupt him into Melkor-worship. Pharazôn had no legal right to the throne and marrying Míriel did not actually give it to him. He simply used it as a pretext.
*** There are multiple versions of this. In some of JRRT's versions, Tal-Palantír's daughter is infatuated with Pharazôn (who by all accounts was likable in his youth) and marries him consensually, and hands him the ''de facto'' control of the Sceptre. In others, he takes her to himself against her will and seizes the Sceptre with the approval of the general public (who by now were mostly corrupted). This is the latest version so is probably what Tolkien eventually intended.
*** JRRT vacillated a ''lot'' on the consensual-nonconsensual nature of sexual relationships in the larger canon; the parents of Maeglin above, for instance, go from kidnapping, to consensual baby-makin', to "wifing by force" (which is Tolkienesque for marital rape).

** Lot's daughters, who raped their father, which is said to have produced the Moabites and Ammonites with whom the Israelites had frequent wars. Many consider this a vilification of these rival tribes, though various arguments in Literature/TheTalmud go back and forth on whether one should consider Lot or his daughters the villains for their part in this; this being partial because the much-admired matriarch Ruth was a Moabite, so the Davidic line (which goes all the way to Jesus Christ, if you accept the New Testament) also descends from Lot and his daughters. Of course, some also contend that since this descent comes [[LineageComesFromTheFather only from the female side of the line, any lingering legacy of shame associated with this incident isn't heritable]].
** Not everyone is entirely sure what happened between Noah and his son Ham in a certain tent either, though many think it was this due to Noah's rather vindictive curse against him and particularly Ham's son Canaan (possibly for putting him up to it).
** Same thing goes for Tamar and her half-brother Amnon in 2 Samuel. He lusted for her so much that he managed to rape her in his quarters. [[KarmicDeath Boy, did he pay dearly for that…]]
** {{Implied|Trope}} in Leviticus chapters 18 and 20. Both of these chapters have laws against incest (18:6-14, 20:17), and both of them end declaring that these sins are what inspire God to punish the Canaanites (18:24, 20:23). The Canaanites are the villains of later parts of the Bible, notably in the Book of Joshua.

* [[spoiler:Junko Enoshima and Mukuro Ikusaba]] of ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc'' are an interesting case, as it's not even hinted at in the game they're introduced. Subtext appears in the what-if light novel ''Danganronpa IF''. It then becomes much more explicit in ''Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool'', with [[spoiler:Mukuro]] being quite submissive and blushing whenever insulted by [[spoiler:Junko]], before [[spoiler:Junko]] violently pulls it out of subtext and into text by slapping [[spoiler:Mukuro]] on the butt (knocking [[spoiler:Mukuro]] to the ground) and doing un-advertiser friendly things to [[spoiler:Mukuro]] with a boot through [[spoiler:Mukuro]]'s skirt. It is not depicted as a healthy relationship at all, as [[spoiler:Junko]] [[DomesticAbuse essentially treats]] [[spoiler:Mukuro]] as a SexSlave of sorts.

* Sorath and Tiriel from ''LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana'', stunning Shana in the process.
* The creepy twins Yu Fan and Yu Lan from ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic: The Second Raid''.

* The [[{{Twincest}} twins]] [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds Mukuro]] and [[BigBad Junko]] are heavily implied to share this in ''Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool'' as Mukuro's sisterly affection was twisted into undying devotion as well as sexual attraction through [[ManipulativeBastard Junko's manipulation]], and the two share an incestuous MasochismTango with Junko beating, insulting, and occasionally trying to kill Mukuro while she gets off on it. In the novel tie-in ''LightNovel/DanganronpaZero'', Mukuro turns ecstatic and feverish as she explains Junko's motives and claims [[EntitledToHaveYou Junko needs her because she's the only one who understands her]].

** [[spoiler: Miki and Kozue]] may do the same during their car ride, and [[spoiler: Touga and Nanami]] very nearly do; at best, it's a rather blunt metaphor about each girl's relationship with men now that they've begun puberty. Interestingly enough, [[spoiler:Nanami]], the girl who has harbored a very blatant (and often sexual) crush on her brother, is absolutely horrified when she discovers that [[spoiler:Anthy and Akio]] are intimate. And during her own car ride with her brother, she reacts with disgust and punches him away when he makes a move on her.

* Auguste Beau of ''Manga/KazeToKiNoUta'' uses sex to control and manipulate [[spoiler: his son, Gilbert]].

* In ''Manga/TokyoGhoul'', a BreedingCult engaging in incestuous relations proves to be a major piece of the dark puzzle. Namely, [[spoiler: Rize Kamishiro is an escaped BreedingSlave that was destined to be raped and forced to bear children to her own biological father, [[HunterOfMonsters CCG]] chairman Tsuneyoshi Washuu. Her half-brother, Furuta, turns out to be a {{Yandere}} that wants to replace their father, marry her, and use her as his personal BabyFactory]].

* ''Fanfic/InnerDemons'': You know the subtle IncestSubtext that exists between [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor]] in canon? Well, after being consumed by her [[EnemyWithin Queen persona]], Twilight stops bothering with either subtlety ''or'' subtext, to the point that she [[spoiler: imprisons and impersonates Cadence to sleep with Shining Armor]]. And when Shining Armor rejects her advances and sides with the protagonists, Twilight has a full-blown VillainousBreakdown and attempts to [[MurderTheHypotenuse kill Cadence]] in a jealous rage.

* ''Fanfic/TheImmortalGame'': [[BigBad Titan]], having taken over Equestria, attempts to force his daughter Luna to marry her brother Empyrean to solidify the latter's position as rightful acting ruler. [[spoiler: It's also later revealed that his wife Terra is actually his daughter as well.]]

* In the ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' parody series ''WebVideo/FriendshipIsWitchcraft'', [[spoiler: VillainProtagonist Twilight Sparkle]] cements her place as the BigBad of the series by sabotaging her brother's wedding, imprisoning his fiancee in a cave and leaving her to die, and [[spoiler: marrying her brother herself.]] She tries to justify her crush [[spoiler: and marriage]] to her brother by saying they are NotBloodSiblings. It's still pretty creepy [[EvenEvilHasStandards even according to Fluttershy]]. And before anyone asks, by all appearances her brother has been brainwashed into going along with it.

* Celie's father in ''Literature/TheColorPurple'', although [[spoiler: she isn't really his daughter]].

** The same daughter that turned the tables on Lord Raith, Lara, later [[spoiler: rapes her cousin Madeline to death while continuously ripping out her innards.]]
** Nicodemus and his daughter Deirdre have been lovers for thousands of years. She talks about it in more detail in ''Skin Game'', where she claims that their relationship started completely platonic, and it was only when both of them had been working together as partners for several centuries that they started to see each other as equal lovers instead of father and daughter. Harry, while still disgusted, finds it difficult to refute her assertion that their relationship is much deeper and stronger than any of the conventional romances he's had, and it serves as a strangely humanizing moment for two unrepentant villains. Of course, this makes [[spoiler: their mutual willingness for Nicodemus to kill her to accomplish his goals all the more shocking, and even after this final leap over the MoralEventHorizon, Harry provoking him with his memories of her is enough to break his usual self-control]].

* In the ''Literature/LymondChronicles'' by Dorothy Dunnett, the arch-villain [[spoiler: Gabriel has a relationship with his sister Joleta]].

*** Much of the plot of ''Oathbreakers'' has Tarma and Kethry trying to find the wherabouts of Idalia, a princess who renounced her place in succession. [[spoiler: Her brother, on being crowned king, decided to keep her from interfering and imprisoned and raped her. She killed herself.]] The rest of the book is dedicated to {{Revenge}}.

* Matthew Lewis both plays it straight and subverts it in ''Literature/TheMonk''. Played straight when the title character, Ambrosio, is driven by his lust for the innocent Antonia [[spoiler: tries and fails to seduce her [[MoralEventHorizon then rapes and kills her]]. The Devil was after his soul]]. Subverted when he learns [[spoiler: to his horror that Antonia was his ''long lost [[BrotherSisterIncest younger sister]].'' It's too late by that point because the Devil had convinced Ambrosio to sell his soul to him to escape punishment for Antonia's rape and murder]].

* On ''Series/TheBorgias'': there is a lot of IncestSubtext between Cesare and Lucrezia, but it's treated more as pure love than sexual chemistry. That said, Cesare is most definitely a VillainProtagonist, and his obsession with Lucrezia has led him to murder once already. In season 3, [[spoiler: they have sex]] and Cesare's fixation on his sister leads to him [[spoiler: murdering her husband and declaring Lucrezia "his"]]. When someone makes a sarcastic comment about how much he loves his sister, he only replies, "too much".

* Brother Justin from ''Series/{{Carnivale}}'' and his sister Iris have a very, er, ''close'' relationship with each other. And did we mention he's the father of TheAntiChrist? And ''then'' [[spoiler: it turns out that Sofie, the Crowe's new maid—after they lost the last three to, basically, Justin raping them into insanity—is actually his long-lost daughter. Which, through a convoluted series of events, only Iris actually realizes, and, despite Justin being all over the girl, hasn't actually told anyone yet]]. Worse yet: WordOfGod said that if the series had continued, [[spoiler:Sofie would have married Justin and had a child. Although it wouldn't have been clear whether the child was Justin's or Ben's]].

** One episode dealt with the murders of a husband and wife, and their two sons, but their two daughters survived unharmed. Over the course of the investigation, we find out that the father had been sexually assaulting the older daughter from a young age. [[spoiler: This "relationship" resulted in her getting pregnant at 13 and giving birth to the younger daughter. When Dad started abusing the younger daughter, the older one arranged for a friend to break into the house and kill the family - the father for abusing them, and the rest of the family for never doing anything to try and stop him.]]
** The episode "Table Stakes" has a pair of con artists who are running benefits in the house of a famous retired showgirl who is out of town on a trip of Europe... and then a woman shows up dead in the pool at one benefit. [[spoiler: Not only is she the dead lover of the male con artist, and not only did they bump off the showgirl and feed her to her piranhas, but they're brother and sister... and the team definitely run into them having sex. In a flashback, the brother's lover confronts the sister about the "act," but the sister says it's all real.]]

** In a 2003 episode, "Dominance", [[spoiler: Charlie Baker is said to have raped his brother, Billy, alongside convincing him to participate in a brutal killing spree]].

* Played for drama and horror on ''Series/TwinPeaks'', when [[spoiler: Leland Palmer is revealed to have sexually abused his daughter Laura for years before finally murdering her, all under the [[DemonicPossession demonic influence]] of [[BigBad BOB]]]].

* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemGenealogyOfTheHolyWar'', has this. [[AntiVillain Arvis]] and his half-sister Deirdre. In fact, it's a major point in the BigBad's plot to have the two marry and breed, so he could create a vessel for a Dark God. [[spoiler: ''And it happens''. To be fair, by that point not only neither knew it… but Deirdre was BrainwashedAndCrazy. Arvis ''did'' find out eventually, but he'd gone through such a TraumaCongaLine by that point that he was far beyond caring. (And their Dark God Vessel Kid was already born, with his twin sister as the inheritor of ''another'' bloodline and on the side of good.)]]

* In the InteractiveFiction story ''VideoGame/{{Anchorhead}}'' this is the dark secret of [[spoiler: your husband's family]].
* In ''[[VideoGame/RivalSchools Project Justice]]'', [[SmugSnake Kurow Kirishima]] [[AllLoveIsUnrequited one-sidedly lusts]] after his beautiful older sister [[LadyOfWar Yurika]]. Made even more obvious in the Darkside Student Council path which is from Kurow's POV [[spoiler: and in Kurow's ending, when he's seen caressing his [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashed-into-subservience-to-him]] older sister's hair..]].
* It is very implied between Weiss and Nero from ''VideoGame/DirgeOfCerberus''. And at the ending [[spoiler: Nero merges with Weiss to free him from Hojo, making them become one]].

* Once you learn the backstory, ''VideoGame/HauntingGround'' becomes MADE of this. Basically, [[spoiler: more or less every one of Fiona's stalkers is closely related to her, except Daniella. Her family's been cloning themselves through UsefulNotes/{{alchemy}} for centuries, each generation being composed of identical copies of the alchemist Aureolus Belli, Fiona being the first naturally born, non-Aureolus-clone Belli in hundreds of years. Her father was one of these clones, and his "brother" Riccardo stalks Fiona in an [[AttemptedRape attempt]] to [[StalkerWithATestTube impregnate her with another clone]]. Again, Riccardo is, not counting his rapid degeneration due to being hastily made, completely identical to Fiona's [[ParentalIncest father]], even if he wasn't already her [[CreepyUncle uncle]]. Debilitas, the first stalker in the game, is another clone, this time made by Riccardo. It's not immediately obvious though since Debilitas's creation was even more botched than Riccardo's own, though Debilitas does not yet seem to be suffering from any degeneration. This might not completely count as Debilitas's attraction to Fiona is entirely innocent and his danger to her is unintentional, but still. Lorenzo, on the other hand, swings right back into this trope. He is Fiona's "grandfather" and, again due to the cloning, is also genetically her father, the same as Riccardo. Like Riccardo, he wants Fiona's body, but for the Azoth contained inside rather than purely out of lust. Though, given some of the comments he makes towards her, especially after he's regressed in age to a young man, and the tone of voice he uses when talking to her, he's probably got some fairly squicky plans for her other than just Azoth-extraction]].

** For the most part, [[MascotVillain Monokuma]] and his [[SpinOffBabies Monokubs]] have a [[BlackComedy darkly hilarious]], if a little [[AbusiveParents abusive]] relationship. Then there's [[TheSmurfettePrinciple Monophanie]], who [[LecherousLicking licks back]] when her father is licking her and her siblings clean and later [[spoiler: gets pregnant by [[BrotherSisterIncest her brother Monotaro]]. Monotaro at least has the excuse of being a ForgetfulJones who forgot the two of them were related, but Monophanie doesn't]]. [[spoiler: She eventually suffers DeathByChildbirth when the baby turns out to be [[BigCreepyCrawlies a giant insect]] that [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice stabs Gonta to death]].]]
** It's revealed in the aftermath of the third trial that the murderer, [[spoiler: Korekiyo Shinguji]], had a sexual relationship with [[BrotherSisterIncest his sister]] until her untimely death. Said death drove him ''[[LoveMakesYouCrazy completely batshit insane]]'', to the point where he [[spoiler: became a SerialKiller hell-bent on sending 100 "friends" to [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy keep her company]] in the afterlife]]. It's implied that [[spoiler: Korekiyo]]'s sister was his LivingEmotionalCrutch, as [[spoiler: he manifests a {{Tulpa}} of her to help himself calm down when he's accused and [[VillainousBreakdown starts losing it]].]]
** It seems rather [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]] at first compared to the previous two examples, but [[CosplayOtakuGirl Tsumugi]] fantasizes about being NotBloodSiblings with [[spoiler: [[PlayerCharacter Shuichi]]]] during her [[OptionalSexualEncounter Love Suite event]]. [[TheReveal Then it's revealed]] that [[spoiler: not only is she the BigBad, but she's responsible for keeping the ImmoralRealityShow the characters are [[TrumanShowPlot trapped in]] going and helped [[FakeMemories tamper with the others' memories]]. This might imply that Korekiyo's BrotherSisterIncest was ''written into the show by her'', making it an InUniverse form of AuthorAppeal]]. [[{{Squick}} Ewww.]]

* Yet another rape trope for Drip in ''Webcomic/{{Jack|DavidHopkins}}''. The AnthropomorphicPersonification of Lust is being punished for his sins in part having to pleasure his grandmother the way he did "when [he was] little.". Later, it's revealed that [[spoiler: Drip had sex with his daughter Lita]]. He knew the relation, she didn't.

Travis is as {{squick}}ed out as the player is. Jeane, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind that it happened. In the end, [[DeathEqualsRedemption the two reconcile right before Travis kills Jeane]]]].

* The ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' supplement the '''Book of Vile Darkness''' introduces the {{Horny Devil|s}} Fierna the Lord of the Fourth Layer of the Nine Hells and her father, the former ruler of the Fourth, Belial. Their relationship has continued into the Fourth Edition.

* [[BigBad Lord]] [[HornyDevils Raith]] of the [[OurVampiresAreDifferent White Court]] in ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'' has the habit of ''raping'' his daughters into [[MoreThanMindControl submission]], thus amplifying the evil of this trope by making it non-consensual. He kills his sons for being potential "threats," though, even though this cuts his potential workforce in half and the canonical fact that the [[LesbianVampire Raiths tend not to care about gender]] when it comes to food. [[spoiler:Maybe he decided to make the extra sexual slaves would have been too much of a drain since he'd been cursed to be unable to feed and thus die a slow death via starvation. In the end, it doesn't matter, since it's one of his "not a threat" daughters that [[MindRape turns him into a vegetable]].]]

** The Clans in general are an antagonist faction (the setting runs on GrayAndGreyMorality with no clear heroes and very few clear villains), and because of their eugenics program and DesignerBabies using UterineReplicators they don't have the same concepts of sexual fidelity, romance, or relations. Clan Trueborn are raised in sibkos (sibling companies) all made from the same combination of DNA from the best warriors of the previous generation. As the members of the sibko come of age, it's considered compeletely natural and acceptable for them to explore their biological urges with each other. This tends to disgust the people of the Inner Sphere, raised in more traditional families.

* A ''TabletopGame/BattleTech'' example that takes some explaining: Former Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion was deposed by an alliance led by her brother after she usurped the regency of her sister and cracked down on her critics in an increasingly tyrannical manner. She was remanded over to Khan Vlad Ward of [[ProudWarriorRace Clan Wolf]], a society that reproduces via DesignerBabies. Growing increasingly hostile and vengeful towards the Inner Sphere houses, including her own, she eventually ''stole her own brother's DNA to create a genetically incestuous child'' just so she could raise him to re-ignite a war between the Clans and the Inner Sphere. No, Victor had no input on this (especially considering he was murdered before he ever found out about it), and no one has any idea how she managed to acquire his DNA, either. GodSaveUsFromTheQueen.

You have him break sexual taboos and engage in certain "taboo" or borderline activities which are frowned upon by many cultures. Sure, EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas, but some bad men love their mamas a ''little'' too much, and this can be meant to add to the audience's view of the villain as depraved and committing evil and [[GoodPeopleHaveGoodSex "unnatural"]] acts daily.

** T.H. White's ''Literature/TheSwordInTheStone'' discusses the possibility that this sin, however unwitting, is what dooms Arthur to such a tragic life. Well, drowning all those children may have had something to do with it, too. While this is usually chalked up as Arthur's greatest sin, it's only one of many sins that bring Camelot down.
** N.B.: in the original legends his incest was with Morgause, his other half-sister. Modern versions often just [[CompositeCharacter combine this role]] with Morgan(a) for simplicity. White's version, though, kept Morgause.

* ''Series/TheLeagueOfGentlemen''. Although it's not revealed until partway through season 2 that CorruptHick {{Serial Killer}}s Tubbs and Edward are brother and sister, it doesn't really come as much of a surprise.

** It's revealed in the aftermath of the third trial that the murderer, [[spoiler: Korekiyo Shinguji]], had a sexual relationship with [[BrotherSisterIncest his sister]] until [[IllGirl her untimely death]]. It's implied that [[spoiler: Korekiyo]]'s sister was his LivingEmotionalCrutch, as [[spoiler: he manifests a {{Tulpa}} of her to help himself calm down when he's accused and [[VillainousBreakdown starts losing it]].]]

** Nicodemus and his daughter Deirdre have been lovers for thousands of years. She talks about it in more detail in ''Skin Game'', where she claims that their relationship started completely platonic, and it was only when both of them had been working together as partners for several centuries that they started to see each other as equal lovers instead of father and daughter. Harry, while still disgusted, finds it difficult to refute her assertion that their relationship is much deeper and stronger than any of the conventional romances he's had, and it serves as a strangely humanizing moment for two unrepentant villains.
