Seems he's really ''that'' obsessed with keeping a no-escape record. (On top of that, what's below the gondola? ''Boiling'' water. The episode is named after TheAlcatraz of the setting, and it got its name by being ''in the crater of a volcano,'' dormant but with magma near enough to the surface to make sure the water that surrounds the facility is ''boiling.'' Which means to be sure he gets the heroes, he is willing to suffer one of the most horrifically agonizing deaths imaginable.)
** At least some of the TechnicalPacifist Air Nomads fought back against the [[HourOfPower super-powered]] [[ANaziByAnyOtherName firebenders]] before the genocide was completed. Aang finds the skeleton of his mentor Gyatso next to a ''pile'' of enemy corpses.
** The SequelSeries, ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' had Lin Beifong attempt this in [[Recap/TheLegendOfKorraS1E10TurningTheTides Turning The Tides]], when she ordered Tenzin to go on without her as she attacked the airships, leaving her to go down with them. In a double subversion, she fails to take down the second one, although she manages to stop their pursuit of Tenzin and his family.

*** In the last episode of Season 3, Ghazan chooses this over going back to prison -- and collapses a cave on himself, Bolin and Mako. They make it out, he doesn't.

* In the ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' episode "Harlequinade" the Joker plots to level Gotham City with a nuclear bomb. When it's clear that his plan is going to fail due to Batman's interference, he aims the gun turret of the plane he planned to escape with on the bomb, vowing that, "That bomb's going to go off even if I go with it!" Fortunately, he doesn't succeed.
* This was the main goal of the [[AbsoluteXenophobe Highbreed]] in ''WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce'', but on a [[OmnicidalManiac universal scale]]. They believed themselves to be superior to all other lifeforms, and after they rendered themselves sterile through generations of inbreeding they couldn't stand the thought of being outlived by "lesser" races and decided that [[SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum they wouldn't die alone]].
* ''WesternAnimation/BigCityGreens'': In the climax of "Chipocalypse Now" when Chip Whistler has been banned from Big City, he furiously tries to kill Cricket and his family (and by extension, everyone who stuck up for them) with his chopper. Also in the same episode, when Gloria is fired from her job at the Wholesome Foods Mega-Store, she drags the bouncer who fired her down the garbage chute with her.

* In the straight-to-DVD ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' movie ''Bender's Big Score'', Lars, knowing that he's doomed to die eventually, presses Nudar and himself to the duplicate Bender, which was about to self-destruct. His video will reveals that he was actually a duplicate Fry, and wanted to die doing something useful (neatly wrapping up all the movie's loose ends) instead of causing Leela the pain of dying unexpectedly.

** In "Only A Dream", Copperhead tries to escape by jumping onto Hawkgirl's back and threatening to bite her with his poison fangs unless she gives him a ride. She simply flies a few hundred feet straight up and points out that [[DidntThinkThisThrough if he bites her now, they'll both die]].
** In the GrandFinale "Destroyer", [[EvilVersusOblivion Lex Luthor sacrifices himself to defeat Darkseid]] by gifting him with the [[TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow Anti-Life Equation]], which [[AndIMustScream traps them both within the Source Wall for eternity]].
* In ''WesternAnimation/MarchOfTheDinosaurs'', the ''Albertosaurus'' tackles the old bull ''Edmontosaurus'', biting down on his neck. During their fight, both dinosaurs come towards a cliff, about to fall off to their deaths. * The Russian ''bylina'' tales tell of Chuds, when cornered, digging up dungeons, going there with their valuables, women and children, taking their last stand there and then collapsing them, killing themselves along with their enemies. Several such sites have actually been found.

* The Bible also tells this is how Samson died. After he was tempted by Delilah into revealing the secret of his SuperStrength, she, at the behest of Samson's enemies, the Philistees, had him drugged, so when he was unconscious they shaved the hair off his head. When Samson came to his senses again, he was bound, and without his divine strength, was at the mercy of the Philistees, who captured him, took his eyes out and imprisoned him, making him a slave as punishment for all the troubles he had caused them. After some time of forced labors however, his head's hair grew back, and with it, unknown to the Philistees, his strength returned to him. Then many of the Philistees had a feast in the temple of their god Dagon, in celebration for the time they had finally captured him and could do to him as they pleased, so some of them had the great idea to bring Samson into the temple they were in, just to mock and ridicule him. Samson prayed to God one last time and, laying his hands on two of the temple's columns, he brought them down, causing the whole temple to fall down and collapse over all who were in it, including Samson himself. The Bible notes that the Philistees who died at the temple's destruction were much more than all the ones Samson had fought and killed in life, before he was captured.

* In the ''Podcast/RedPandaAdventures'' episode "The Gadget", the Red Ensign, an ally of the Red Panda, has at his mercy the man he holds responsible for much of the pain he's endured in his life, fugitive Nazi scientist Friedrich von Schlitz. The Red Ensign bodily carries him to the atom bomb testing site in Trinity New Mexico so that they can both die together. The act merits SilentCredits at the end of the episode.

* ''TabletopGame/{{Battletech}}'': At the start of the Clan Invasion, a fighter pilot named Tyra Mirborg suffered terminal damage to her craft. Knowing she was dead, she drove her ship directly into the bridge of a nearby Clan ship. Fate smiled on her; this was the command vessel for the invasion, and her impact caused Smoke Jaguar [=ilKhan=] (and commander of the invasion) Leo Showers to [[ThrownOutTheAirlock be sucked out the broken windows into space]], forcing the Clans to delay the invasion for a year as they argued over who should replace him, giving the Inner Sphere time to rearm and prepare.

** The memetic player character ''Fanfic/OldManHenderson'', upon finally being targeted personally by the Hastur cultists with a siege of zombies and shoggoths, holed up with his allies in a skating rink and rigged it with "enough explosives to make Michael Bay blush", thus taking the cultists, monsters, allies, and the ''[[LoopholeAbuse Yellow King himself]]'' with him in a literal blaze of glory.

Unfortunately for him, his injuries make it easy for MT to overpower him and shove him into the wheels alone, [[FamilyUnfriendlyDeath shredding him to pieces]].

* In the ''WesternAnimation/Sealab2021'' episode "The Policy", Murphy pulled this off when Sparks tried electrocuting him for the insurance money: he got close enough to Sparks to electrocute him as well. There seems to be no hard feelings between the two, as they both sit in hell casually comparing punishments.
* In ''WesternAnimation/ShadowRaiders'', Planets Fire's engines begin to fail, making it unable to outrun the Beast Planet. The Grand Vizier then turns the planet around and crashes it into the Beast Planet, hoping to take out the Beast in a suicide attack. [[spoiler:The Beast Planet survives unharmed.]]
* In ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'' episode, "The Alien Costume, Part 3," Spider-Man tries to defeat Venom by luring him to the launch site of a NASA rocket. He intends to use the roar of the rocket to force the symbiote off Eddie Brock and then to web the symbiote to the rocket. The plan works perfectly, but Spidey was prepared to go this way if it didn't.
