They are the unwanted Sensates, the ones that do not truly believe in the faction, but instead seek only pleasure for pleasure’s sake. Are prisoners who do not realize they are such truly prisoners?

* Against its sinister reputation, the pre-Revolutionary Bastille was mostly fitting for this trope. It mostly housed political prisoners, and mentally ill nobles, and it was perfectly possible for a prisoner from Bastille to get out and rise to a prestigious position in the court again, so the wardens knew well enough not to antagonize any of them. The prisoners received an allowance, as well as anything their families donated them, and could use the money to buy anything they wanted from shops within the fortress that had as good selections as in Paris outside.
