It is not always a pejorative term but it can be among people who don't "get" a particular fandom. Most folks today use the term to mean nothing more than a female {{nerd}}. Someone describing herself as a fangirl is usually expressing enthusiasm for the subject.

* [[Characters/XMen2010sMembers Honey Badger]], cloned sister of ComicBook/{{X 23}}, positively geeks out over meeting ComicBook/CaptainAmerica and the adult ComicBook/JeanGrey. Gabby's BigSisterWorship of Laura also edges in this direction.

* ''Series/TheGirlFromPlainville'': Michelle is a big fan of ''Series/{{Glee}}'' and gets Susie to watch it with her. Later she has a daydream sequence where she and Conrad are doing a cover of Music/REOSpeedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore"... as Rachel and Finn.

* Minto from ''Manga/TokyoMewMew'' is a closet fangirl of model and actress Fujiwara Zakuro. Removes the "closet" ([[SchoolgirlLesbians pun not intended, but strangely appropriate]]) after Zakuro joins the team.

* Tomoyo is Sakura's fangirl in ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'', in addition to [[SchoolgirlLesbians loving]] [[SingleTargetSexuality her]] in other ways. Her obsession with filming all of Sakura's exploits even disturbs Sakura on occasion, and in an early episode, she gives an impromptu manifesto on Sakura's varied awesomeness to a boy who had just complimented Sakura on her athletic skill.

** This is how Cassie Sandsmark, the second [[ComicBook/WonderGirl Wonder Girl]] started out. She was the President of the Wonder Woman fan club in [[TheCity Gateway City]].
** ''[[ComicBook/TheHiketeia Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia]]'': The story is actually something of a {{Deconstruction}} of the trope. Danny, the main character, idolized Diana when she was younger and and her getting revenge for her sister's death (at the behest of the Furies) was her acting on the belief that she was being strong like Diana.

* Ai Haibara of ''Manga/DetectiveConan'' is this towards athlete Ryusuke Higo. At first, she just claims to admire him because his situation bore similarities to her own, but over time it becomes more evident that whenever he's involved, all of her [[TeenGenius common sense and intelligence]] takes a hike and makes way for the fangirl within.

* ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess'' has, once you win a specific mini-game, three [[{{Squee}} squeeing]] fangirls who will follow Link as if he were a rockstar no matter where in the city he goes.
* ''VideoGame/OsuTatakaeOuendan 2'' has a scenario where the player cheers on a group of three middle-aged {{Fangirl}}s trying to save their [[DistressedDude kidnapped idol]].

* In the ''Literature/VillageTales'' series, the Duke's teenaged niece Hetty (Henrietta Maria) has but two interests. The [[AllGirlsLikePonies non-equine one]] is her being a massive [[Music/OneDirection One Direction]] {{Fangirl}}. And she regards some of the locals at home as being near-avatars thereof with a decade's maturation: which is why she's a ShipperOnDeck for the Rector and the Deputy Headmaster in the Woolfonts (she is, after all, a lampshaded InUniverse Ziam shipper). It's become an InUniverse RunningGag.

* Renge in ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'' is a very educated FanGirl. Of course, she spends more time criticizing and advising the members of the Club than fangirling them, but when she ''fangirls'' she does it '''big'''.

* ''Webcomic/RWBYCherish'': Ruby's deceased mother Summer was a celebrity. Ruby is a fangirl of her mother and owns a lot of her merch. This is both due to admiration and a desire to better understand the mother she barely knew.

* In ''Anime/DokiDokiPrettyCure'', [[TheHeroine Mana Aida]] is a fangirl to the IdolSinger [[TheLancer Makoto "MakoP" Kenzaki]]. One wonders who Mana loves the most, [=MakoP=], [[ChildhoodFriends Rikka]], or [[FoeYay Regina]].

* ''Theatre/{{Fangirls}}'': As can be surmised from the title, all of the teenage characters are fangirls: obsessed fans of Harry, the lead singer of the boy band True connection.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Cars}}'' had Mia and Tia, the two little convertibles. After the race in the film's beginning, they [[GettingCrapPastTheRadar "flash" their "headlights"]] at him. They later appear repainted light green when their adoration has shifted to Chick Hicks. But when Chick's penchant for UnnecessaryRoughness is exposed in the tiebreaker race, they switch back to adoring Lightning again. They even move to Radiator Springs and become waitresses at Flo's V8 gas station in the WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue.

* In her earliest appearances, Misato-chan seems to exist solely to fangirl Manga/{{Nana}} and the Black Stones, to the point of ignoring school, moving in with them to act as a fetch-and-carry girl, and even [[spoiler:using a fake name to stump Yasu's attempted background check]].

* [[ClassRepresentative Emily Sevensheep]] of ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'' is a massive Nagi fangirl. In fact, many females in the Magic World are Nagi fangirls. There's a reason why being among the first 100 to join the official Nagi fanclub is considered a special thing. Hell, being in the first ''five digits'' is considered a big deal.

* Mei Chan fangirls Ed briefly in ''Manga/FullMetalAlchemist'' until she meets him and sees how short he is. She then [[HeroicBSOD BSODs]] briefly before bawling him out for "toying with her heart", and then moves her affections to Al, who is suitably tall, being a suit of armor. No pun intended.

* [[Characters/XMen2010sMembers Honey Badger]], cloned sister of Comicbook/{{X 23}}, positively geeks out over meeting Comicbook/CaptainAmerica and the adult Comicbook/JeanGrey. Gabby's BigSisterWorship of Laura also edges in this direction.

** Suzianna Goldenfur from the Literature/{{Redwall}} OFU, who supplies the page quote for BreadEggsMilkSquick.
** Nara from the VideoGame/{{Myst}} OFU, who calls for "Eedrah my love" in his wife's presence and later writes a FanFic that brings a CharacterReplacement into being.

* ''FanFic/BecomingPonies'' introduces us to the trio of Jacqueline, Linda, and Ginny, as well as Harold. They follow Pinkie's counterpart around.

* ''FanFic/MegaManDefenderOfTheHumanRace'' has Klainka Cossack, who is a huge fan of Mega Man.

* In ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' fanfic ''Fanfic/{{ResurrectedMemories}}'': Danny has got a ton of them, due to becoming famous after saving the world from the Disasteroid. Paulina is the most prominent example of them. One of the reasons Danny [[spoiler: ends up falling for "Amberline" is because she's not one of them.]]

* While in ''FanFic/AYoungWomansPoliticalRecord'', Millicent Caldwall is merely a fan of Tanya, largely for her being the most successful woman in history, in some of the omakes, she goes to incredible extremese such as thinking the mere act of Tanya sitting on a barstool and leaning against the bar would be award worthy in a movie.

* Chris in ''VisualNovel/MajiDeWatashiNiKoiShinasai'' is a huge JidaiGeki fan, and in particular loves the [[ShowWithinAShow Show Within A Game]] Yamato-maru Nikki series, a common interest she shares with Yamato. Yamato himself can also be described as a ''hermit crab'' fanboy.

* In the {{superhero}} {{web serial novel}} ''Literature/{{Gamer Girl|2016}}'', Kazé/Fangirl is the self-proclaimed number one fan of the superhero Golden Boy as well as a superhero fangirl generally. Interestingly, her fandom seems to encompass both the real superheroes of the ''Gamer Girl'' [[{{TheVerse}} Verse]] and fictional superheroes from [[{{Creator/MarvelComics}} Marvel]] and [[{{Creator/DCComics}} DC]] comics.
