In the first season, we had Gwen and Owen's affair getting constant references, getting two sex scenes and kicking off the final story line, and Tosh's affair getting it's own episode. When it comes to captain Jack though, he had one love affair that never amounted to more than a kiss, and apparently he also had a thing with Ianto, to whoch we get exactly three hints over course of the season.

* The 1995 film Higher Learning: Two college-age girls (one gay, the other bisexual) share a very chaste kiss where their lips barely touch and that lasts for only slightly more than a second. They are both in the privacy of the gay girl's bedroom and are not showing much skin. Then there's another love scene between a boy and a girl (both straight); they are making out more or less in public, and are in their skimpy track-and-field clothes, with the girl baring her midriff. The boy is right on top of the girl, and the camera lingers on them a lot longer than on the two kissing girls. When this movie is shown on American television, it gets even worse: the girl-on-girl scene is cut entirely! (We do see the girls briefly holding hands in both the theatrical and edited-for-TV versions, however.) At the very least, it's good to see that, unlike most other media depictions, the girls aren't treated more sympathetically for not being male homosexuals.

The point remains that it was the first notable aversion of this trope in mainstream television, and deserves to be noted for its spectacular defiance of the trope for that kiss alone, future storylines be damned. If you \'\'really\'\' have a problem with it, we can argue it out in the discussion, but it belongs here until we reach a general consensus otherwise because it is just that notable.

* Dan Gainor of the Business and Media Institute wrote an article entitled "Glees Disgusting Gay Teen Sex Romp" in response to a scene where Brittany and Santana are necking on a bed and Santana says that "it's a nice change from all that scissoring". The guy claims it was far too much for a "family friendly" show, and in fact goes so far as to insult Glee's director Ryan Murphy for "spending his days fantasizing about teen girls 'scissoring' on the bed in what the media tell us is a family-friendly show." Not only is this a ridiculous allusion considering Murphy is gay, but this so-called "family friendly" show has also given us scenes such as Finn's ejaculation in a hot tub, the Like A Virgin montage, a flashback to the moments before the conception of Puck and Quinn's baby and the implication of Jacob Ben Israel jacking off to a video of Rachel, just to name a few. And of course, let's not forget that in the very same episode that includes this Brittany and Santana scene entails Brittany picking Artie up out of his wheelchair, throwing him on the very same bed she was kissing Santana on, and climbing on top of him, to which he responds, "am I about to lose my virginity?" Does Dan Gainor think there is any problem with this scene on a family-friendly show? Nope.
