I just put in the My Hero Academia, but then I noticed that the "Nonstandard Character Design" trope fits it better, so I'm getting rid of what I put.

* This is part of [[TheAce All Might's]] appeal in ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia''. He is the only character drawn in a heavily-shaded "American superhero comics" style, in direct contrast to every other character in the shonen manga. At least once, someone breaks the fourth wall to comment on it.

* One of the stylistic themes of ''ComicBook/AsteriosPolyp'' is how Asterios rigid, blue line architect way seeing the world would clash with his artist wife's fluid, etched view of the world. This was visually and tonally represented by having their art styles "split" when they fought, and meld into more beautiful combined art when they loved and understood each other.

The earlier character designs were not meant to be seen from [[CheatedAngle very complex angles]], which makes for a notable contrast in animation when seen next to more natural and expressive modern character designs. Not only that, but the more detailed environments of later seasons also contrast with most of the characters that were designed in the show's early years.

Other works on the other hand... well, they just outright decide to take it UpToEleven and throw in many different art-styles together in the same work, and no, it is not just for a specific part, it is for the '''whole work'''. It is highly likely that this work takes place in a WorldOfWeirdness, so don't question why [[FurryConfusion an anthropomorphic animal is petting a non-anthropomorphic animal]] or why a ten-year old is a PintSizedKid while another one is just [[TeensAreShort slightly smaller than an adult]] among other things.

This can be seen as a SubTrope of MediumBlending. Not to be confused with ArtStyleDissonance (as that trope has the art-style not match to the context of the work, while in this trope it doesn't necessarily have to be the case) or ArtShift (which only happens for a certain amount of time or during very specific instances). Compare with RealisticHumansCartoonyAnimals, NonStandardCharacterDesign, and CartoonishCompanions.

* The Franchise/SpiderMan event ''ComicBook/SpiderVerse'' and its sequels is about a CrisisCrossover of all Spider-Men from all continuities in danger and some of them killed by the villain Morlun who can travel between continuities to erradicate every Spider-Man in existence. Here are seen almost every incarnation of the Friendly Neighbourhood, but the art style is mantained for the non-standard humanoid ones, including ComicBook/SpiderHam, [[Manga/SpiderManManga Spider-Man J]], [[Manga/MarvelMangaverse Mangaverse's Spider-Man]] and [[ComicBook/MarvelApes Spider-Monkey]], as others.

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'': The PlayerCharacter is the only human in a town full of FunnyAnimals. They are all SuperDeformed (Especially in games prior to ''[[VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf New Leaf]]''), and yet the television items that can be bought show other human characters with a slightly realistic appearence and proportions, and [[FurryConfusion non-anthropomorphic animals]] too. Same thing goes to the art pieces you can get (paintings and sculptures), which are all real life works. The bugs, fish and sea creatures that can be caught are also worth talking about, especially in ''[[VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewHorizons New Horizons]]'' as not only do they have a more realistic approach to them when compared to the villagers and other [=NPCs=], but they are also prone to FurryConfusion in the case of frogs and octopuses. Some items that can be obtained are the Hamster Cage and the Bird Cage, which come with a non-antropomorphic hamster and bird respectively, which you can potentially gift to your hamster and bird villagers.
* ''VideoGame/{{Deltarune}}'' plays this for laughs. The whole game is styled like an SNES game, but occasionally you get some extremely realistic special effects, like the explosion when Lancer first appears, or the carton of milk that's a picture of the real thing.
* ''VideoGame/HyruleWarriors''
** Additional costumes for Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf based on ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'' are taken from the 3DS remake of that game, making them stand out as distinctly low-poly compared to the Wii U-native graphics of the rest of the game.
** An {{Invoked|Trope}} example, the LethalJokeWeapon upgrade for most characters is an "8-bit" design made of voxels based on sprites from the [=NES=] ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaI The Legend of Zelda]]'' and ''VideoGame/ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink''.
** Come the UpdatedRerelease of ''Hyrule Warriors Legends'' for the Nintendo 3DS, characters, battlefields and enemies from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker'' are introduced, all of which have a cartoony design and contrast with the more {{Animesque}} looking characters already present in the original Wii U game (And Toon Zelda from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSpiritTracks'' was added later on as [[DownloadableContent DLC]]). All of this is better appreciated in ''[[UpdatedRerelease Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition]]'' thanks to the more powerful graphics of the Nintendo Switch.
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog:'' In most of the earlier 3D Sonic games, we see human characters who look pretty normal [[RealisticHumansCartoonyAnimals compared to the stylized anthropomorphic characters like Sonic himself]]. Heck, you don't even need to go to Sonic and his friends, comparing any human character to Dr. Eggman is more than enough.
** ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' is the most infamous example because of that game's more advanced graphics at the time. It doesn't help that it features an InterspeciesRomance between the cartoony FunnyAnimal Sonic, and the realistic looking ''human'' princess Elise.
** ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog'' is another good example; Compare Eggman's short and stubby Egg Pawns to the G.U.N. Soldiers and Black Aliens.
** ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' downplays this by giving all of the humans a more Pixar-like design, but it's still a bit jarring in a meta sense when you compare them to the humans that came before.
* ''VideoGame/SuperMarioOdyssey'', while having a cartoony art-syle for the most part, has some instances of this. * This is inevitable in a franchise like ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' due to it being a huge crossover of different Nintendo and other Third party games. It continued to grow and grow as the series went on and added more fighters, and it's gotten to the point where it is not weird to see the {{Animesque}} looking [[VideoGame/KidIcarus Pit]] fighting against the blocky looking [[VideoGame/{{Minecraft}} Steve]] in a cartoony stage from ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing''.
* ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'': Compare the cute titular species and the playable Captains to some of the bizarre alien wildlife they can encounter. The Bulborbs are probably an exception since their simple looking eyes make them look less like animals, and more like creatures that can exist in the same world as Pikmin.
* ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'': Two words: [[spoiler: [[Characters/UndertaleFlowey Photoshop Flowey.]]]] An EldritchAbomination who only looks like a mess of parts, using a mess of artstyles not used or seen anywhere else before. The boss doesn't even look like it even belongs in this game (or ''any'' game, really) with only the character's ''face'' reminding what game you're playing.

* ''WebAnimation/AnimatorVsAnimation'' has cartoonish stick figures on a computer. Also, they explore things from ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' and have come face-to-face with [[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros Mario]] and visited ''[[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver Pokemon Heart Gold]]''. And in the fourth episode of the ''[=AvA=] Shorts'', we get to see a beautifully drawn cliffside while six stick figures fight with each other. And sometimes we get live action moments.

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'': The comic's flash animations, particularly later and longer ones such as [S]Cascade, had contributions from many artists and so the art style of the same character can vary quite a bit within the same animation, from the comic's standard PuniPlush ThickLineAnimation to the NoodlePeople "Hero Mode" to more detailed and realistic, fanart-like depictions.
* ''WebComic/OnePunchMan'' is a mix-up of multiple genres akin to a FantasyKitchenSink, and so character designs vary wildly depending on what they are lampooning. The main character Saitama is often drawn with almost a ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'' simplicity to his face, while his costume looks like a third rate ComicBook/{{Superman}} knock-off. In contrast Genos is a {{bishonen}} and quintessential anime {{cyborg}}.
* ''WebComic/StrangeTalesOfTheDAMultiverse'' is a crossover between different webcomics hosted on Website/DeviantArt, including ''WebComic/TalesToBehold'' (a superhero comic), ''Burst Lion'' (a MagicalGirl comic starring a CatGirl), and ''Mega Mutt'' (a FunnyAnimal comic.) This can sometimes result in jarring contrasts, particularly with Mega Mutt, who has a cartoon dog's head on a traditional superhero body.

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball'' is one of the best examples of this trope. The mash-up of differently animated characters is huge (2D Animation, CGI, Stop-Motion, Live Action etc.) and the backgrounds themselves are real photographs.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Chowder}}'' is a similar example to ''Amazing World of Gumball'' but a bit more downplayed. Along with the show's occasional MediumBlending, a character that doesn't look like they belong with the rest of the world at all would be introduced from time to time.
--> '''Panini''': "But I don't like Carson! [[NoFourthWall He's too realistic looking!]]"
* ''WesternAnimation/KappaMikey'': Characters who are meant to be native to Japan are drawn in an anime style, while characters originating from America are drawn in a cartoony style.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheMarvelousMisadventuresOfFlapjack'': Most of the main characters are noticeably more cartoony compared to the more realistically drawn extras. Bubbie for example, is a whale that looks simple and easy to draw, and she's also a big contrast compared to the monstrous (and sometimes terrifying) sea creatures they encounter in the ocean.
* ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' falls into this as a result of ArtEvolution. Adult characters that debuted in early seasons are much more likely to have a cartoony and simplistic appearance than those who debuted in later seasons (Really, just compare Principal Victoria to PC Principal). The earlier character designs were not meant to be seen from [[CheatedAngle very complex angles]], which makes for a notable contrast in animation when seen next to more natural and expressive modern character designs. On the other hand, the base character design for kid characters has remained the same throught the series and very rarely has a kid introduced in more recent seasons looked any different than others clothes, hair and headwear aside. Not only that, but the more detailed environments of later seasons also contrast with most of the characters that were designed in the show's early years.
** Additionally there are some random characters, mostly Canadians, with even more simplistic character designs with the top of their head disconnected from the rest of their body to simulate them talking. Canada itself also has a more simplistic and blocky appearance than the rest of the world, even in later seasons when the budget of the show improved. Depending on the episode certain celebrities are depicted with modified photographs of their heads and given animation.
