* Hiei from ''YuYuHakusho'', and egregiously so, especially in the manga. By the end of the anime, he manages to squeak into JerkWithAHeartOfGold territory, but just barely.
** Considering that he's a demon who was [[ParentalAbandonment cast out]] of the [[LadyLand female-only society he was born in]], despite his own mother ''actually wanting'' to raise him, he would naturally be an ass, but Kurama's noteworthy companionship and respect makes it more of a FreudianExcuse.

Her actions during this part of the show, which ranges from stealing food from her friends in trying to survive "with nature", to stupidly kissing Jean while the latter is stoned from mushrooms, and, [[spoiler:most appallingly, [[ThePaolo ditching Jean for a stranger she hardly knows after admitting in a previous episode that Jean was more important to her (she later discovers that the new guy is already engaged, much to her shock)]],]] are all completely inconsistent with her personality from the canonical episodes (not to mention completely inexplicable: the motivations behind her doings in this filler arc are not at all clear). In fact, some fans nearly gave up on the show because of being so fed up with her derailment. [[ExecutiveMeddling Blame that on the NHK staff who decided to extend the show in the first place]]. [[WordofGod Even Hideaki Anno agrees]], having made a streamlined version of this story (''The Nautilus Story'') that totally eliminates all of these above-mentioned episodes, completely doing away with the "selfish Nadia" thing.

** An interesting aspect of Haruhi being a Jerkass is that the classic mark of one is the question of why people put up with her when she's so terrible. Here it's partly out of necessity and partly because they really do feel like a Nakama and want to be with her... but you could argue that Haruhi is subconsciously making them feel that way using her powers.

* In ''{{Naruto}}'', Sasuke Uchiha wavers between being a straight-up JerkAss (especially after the TimeSkip) and a JerkWithAHeartOfGold and/or wearer of the JerkassFacade; despite his constant posturing, and especially prior to his HeroicBSOD (Rival edition) and FaceHeelTurn courtesy of his AloofBigBrother, he ''is'' shown warming up to his team mates and putting his life on the line to protect them. While he is inexplicably popular with the ladies, his teacher Kakashi alternates between giving him specialized training and trying to nail some compassion and fellow-feeling into that thick skull of his.
** Sasuke's recent actions have pretty much had him pretty much merrily skipping over the line without even looking back. Because really, when you [[spoiler: Believing yourself justified in possibly murdering an entire village, including people you went to school with, your teacher, and your ''best friend'' without a second thought, all because the leaders decided that your family's plan to attempt a coup was treason (which it is), and had them executed for such. *** To be honest, the village's entire government system is a piece of crap that needs to be destroyed. There just happens to be a hell of a lot of bystanders in the way.
** Neji Hyuga is introduced as this until Naruto [[DefeatMeansFriendship beats it out of him.]] Exactly how Jerkass he was is up to debate, since even in his KickTheDog moment he gave his opponent a chance to surrender, and was just being honest when he told her she didn't stand a chance.
*** But despite that, he then tries to attack Hinata one last time (despite her having been declared the loser and being on the brink of death), complains that the Jonin are playing favorites with the main branch when they stop him from killing her, and smugly tells Kurenai that she doesn't have time to be glaring at him (when she realizes he was trying to kill Hinata), showing that he didn't think Hinata was worth his time when he told her to withdraw (similar to why he didn't attack Team 10 to get their scroll). He's also not very nice with Lee, repeatedly suggesting that he can't be a ninja, and callously thinking that his having to open the Inner Gates and sacrifice his body in order to fight Gaara was proof that his defeat was inevitable.

* ''OnePiece'' has only one particularly standout JerkAss, and his name is Wapol. While every other BigBad has a fundamental goal or FreudianExcuse when they do what they do, Wapol doesn't ''any,'' other than to be the king of Drum Island, and he was ''born'' to the throne. He partakes in acts of cruelty, most notably gathering up twenty of the island's best doctors, for which it was famous, and then banishing all of the rest just because he wanted the citizens to beg him to let them see one of the Twenty, and also because he ''could'', and there was ''still'' no guarantee that he'd let them. This is just the start.
