You also fight with Kain but you can't beat him despite the fact that both start at the same level and should be equally strong. Cecil just hits low or miss while Kain jumps and deals more damage every jump until he defeats you; this leads people to believe that Cecil didn't want to hurt Kain.

Finally, when he disarms Cloud, despite Cloud being very easy to kill at that point, he instead has his face near him and delivers a cryptic message before he disappears.]]
