[[folder:Why do they say that Cyclops [[spoiler:''murdered'' Xavier]]?]]
* He was a combatant, he came with an invading army, he was attacking him. They can't have expected the man to be a meek pacifist about it?
** The same thing with most of the headstracting things about AVX, poor writing and CriticalResearchFailure.

[[folder:How did Wolverine get to take the children with him when he wanted to move back to Westchester?]]
* Okay, so Logan threatens to blow everyone up if they don't evacuate the island in the thirty to sixty seconds left before the mile-high (or however tall you have to be to wade through the bay) reaches it. Apart from Hope's team of minors, Emma and Magneto are lying passed out downstairs, the Cuckoos are busy telepathically transmitting things from the control room, Quentin is passed out somewhere, Dr.s Rao and Nemesis are probably working in the lab… there is a city of Atlanteans directly underneath them… So what I'm wondering is this: How did Wolverine get to take the children with him when he wanted to move back to Westchester?
** The way the whole schism thing has been handled makes very little sense, as it seems mostly based on most writers making Logan the DesignatedHero and Scott the DesignatedVillain, with no one ever actually giving a legitimate reason for readers to believe that Logan is doing anything close to the right thing.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Why is Cyclops written by writers who seem to hate him?]]
* Why are story arcs featuring him in a prominent role so often given to writers that hate him and have other characters inexplicably rant about how he's the worst?
** Because he was never the "cool" character like Wolverine, and the writers are basically using it as a forum to say so.

No, you don't, otherwise you'd know that, had they wanted to, they could start a war. But, as stupid as they are, they know a war is a bad idea. As for fighting for peace being foolish, I'm sorry, but that was the most dick-headish thing I've ever read. Fighting for peace is NEVER a foolish thing to do. Fighting for peace is the only non-foolish thing to fight for. Its not a matter of humans vs mutants, it would be a matter of bad humans vs bad mutants vs good humans and good mutants. Humanity doesn't all want to kill the mutants, and not all mutants want to fight. Its not so black and white. The reason it would be wrong to just sit back and let a mutant regime fight is because the X-Men are the ones who fight for rights, Magneto fights for supremacy. That isn't what they want. How do you not get this? Secondly, if a war did break out in the present, it would ruin the entire franchise. A war can only be used in a future and AU setting, if it happened in the main universe, we'd have something like Civil War: A terribly written story that ruined the comics for a lot of people. A small scale war, such as a single nation enslaving mutants and others fighting for liberation, that could work, but a world scale war between the two races would be a terrible idea.[[/folder]]

[[folder: What [[folder:What is a mutant, exactly?]]

* A mutant, as in Homo Sapien Superior, is a person born with a mutated 'X-Gene' which causes unique developments. How I chose to think of it, as like a key to their genes. Say, someone is born with a gene that allows them to grow a tail, but, its inactive/'turned off', and unlike most genes, it doesn't become active at a certain age. This 'X-Gene' makes a hormone that activates this gene, causing them to develop powers. Similarly, people could be born with an X-Gene, but lack any special genes in need of activating. So, an X-Gene holder and a 'power gene' holder will have to share their CD collections, and create a baby with both, causing them to be a mutant with powers. Similarly, if someone is born with an X-Gene but no powers, if they come across a genetic mishap, such as say, a bite from a spider or being near a Gamma radiation wave, then they'll develop a 'power gene'. The X-Gene may also provide other benefits. As described once in the comics, all mutants are immune to HIV/AIDS, but its also possible they're immune to the effects of radiation (As ''First Class'' claimed, thought note that despite being in a nuclear reactor for a great amount of time, Erik has no negative side effects). Its also possible that the same gene comes in small variations, such as one that lacks the ability to control the amount of this power unlocking hormone, causing PowerIncontinence. Bare in mind, that's my personal take on it, there's nothing in Cannon to say this, but its how I like to explain it. Take it how you will.

[[folder:Why can't Marvel decide on Monet's race?]]
* Her creator, Scott Lobdell has stated she's black. But there were times in Generation X where that didn't seem to be the case. X-Factor took it further and just made Monet a white, or tan European-looking. PAD mentioned getting many complaints from fans asking why Monet was white all of a sudden. In response, he had the colorists gradually darken her again, but she could still be rather ambiguous looking. Then she went back to a tan complexion, before going white again until 2015. Then later that year, she appeared in Bunn's Uncanny X-Men where she once again had a brown complexion. She's been consistently brown in major depictions since then. But come on, make up your mind Marvel. Is Monet black, multi-racial, or white? Her creator says the first. But Marvel has bounced around with her. She can go from brown & black in chapters & covers to white the next instant. Is race-changing another of her powers?

** There still was a time when mutants were ever increasing in their numbers. The fact that the mutant population has dropped drastically is a setback, but doesn't mean that it couldn't hypothetically happen again, so it's still reasonable for people who believe that mutants might one day replace humanity. The idea that the rise in mutants was linked to atomic bomb testing has more or less been dropped and never really made sense to begin with (a lot of the time it was presented as theoretical- they didn't ''know'' where their powers came from and were just speculating). The drop in the mutant population was due to outside interference like the Scarlet Witch, so if nothing like that ever happens again then it is possible that the mutant populace might one day grow large enough to eclipse humans, and numbers have nothing to do with whether something is a separate "species" or not. As for why they consider themselves to be such when they only have an X-Gene in common and are actually just the products of alien experiments...well, most mutants probably don't ''know'' this, and the ones who ''do'' think might think of it as more of an irrelevant technicality (i.e. using "evolution" and "species" as inaccurate but informal term for mutants eventually becoming the dominant group on the planet). The language both sides use (eg. "Homo Superior") only reinforces this notion on a subconscious level. As for the humans, most ordinary people just aren't versed in the complexities and nuances of the mutant issue enough to know exactly ''what'' the differences are between mutants and non-mutant superhumans and don't really care (prejudices don't have to make empirical sense, after all) while the more extreme anti-mutant hate groups in most cases probably ''do'' have issues or suspicions about non-mutant superhumans as well, though mostly it comes down to a) seeing mutants as a potential "evolutionary" threat, b) the existence of mutant supremacy terrorist groups (anti-mutant groups being a backlash), c) fear and hatred arising from ignorance d) the manipulation of more informed but less scrupulous individuals (e.g. Bastion, who stores up anti-mutant hatred simply because that's what he was programmed to do, not because he is unaware of the technical differences; William Striker, who is an AxCrazy fundamentalist extremist, and others who might simply want power and /or are using mutants as a scapegoat), e) bad experiences with dangerous mutants that "evolved" (no pun intended) into an irrational prejudice.

In fact, several of her earliest aliases are men, and she only begins presenting as a woman in later life. Whether that's suggestive of her being transgender (and an ''incredibly'' lucky winner of the SuperPowerLottery), or is a case of SweetPollyOliver since men had an easier time moving about on their own in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century…really strikes to the heart of this Headscratcher. Unfortunately, there has not been a definitive answer to what Mystique was like before her powers manifested, or when in her life that was.

Asking people why they would like to see such blatant inconsistencies in characterization given an in-universe explanation is a weird thing to do. ''You'' may not mind inconsistencies like those, but that doesn't mean nobody else is allowed to care, or has the obligation to overlook them. Second, Magneto's more villainous early acts were explained by Claremont as him having lost his sanity prior to his first meeting with the X-Men. Claremont also had Magneto's sanity restored at a point, after which he started acting like his modern portrayal.

** The reason people like Cap and the FF are beloved is because of the fact that they ''started off'' fundamentally human, and became powerful, basically a human can become powered but a human cannot become a "true" mutant, Jealousy prevails, A baseline human has to be bitten by a radioactive/mutated creature, become exposed to a mist that may kill you, or take an extremely hard to develop serum, whereas mutants are born literally with powers encoded in their DNA. The whole "we want to destroy mutants because they will overtake us" argument makes even less sense, because that's what later generations DO, all the Marvel universe adults are dong is ensuring that later generations who will be massively outnumbered by mutants will be mutant phobic.

* To be fair, unlike the X-Men, The Fantastic Four are explicitly not mutants in the Marvel universe sense of the word, it would be fair easy for the FF to point out that he is the child of two superheroes who gained powers, not born with them, which is how mutants work in the Marvel universe, while franklin was born powered, the rest of the world wave off his mutation as "well, his mother and father are superpowered so obviouly he would gain powers too" chalking it up to Sue and Reeds altered DNA from an external source (cosmic storm), in comparison to mutants who come from unaltered normal humans.

He turned himself in because, SplitPersonality (later LiteralSplitPersonality) or not, he ''was'' responsible for the events of ''ComicBook/{{Onslaught}}''; he still had an ''at best'' double-digit body count on his hands. It just seems like the government only cared about the Avengers and Fantastic Four and didn't really did a damn about the other people hurt by Onslaught.

** How they act on their anti-mutant racism may seem illogical. Chock that up to human idiocy or arrogance. But it's easy to see where the root of the racism could begin. Think about it. You have mutants with potentially dangerous abilities whose powers are developing before they have the means to control them. So suddenly you have inexperienced mutants destroying property, accidentally hurting people, etc. Some people won't care that they didn't mean it. They'll just care that they feel endangered and as with any other form of prejudice, fear leads to hate.

** 'Girl' can be used as a slang for any young woman, not just female kids and teens. The current Batgirl is an adult, and many incarnations of Supergirl and Power Girl are depicted in their twenties.

*** Mate, you're answering the question of which was the first published superhero team, but the question was which superhero team was the first, going by in-universe chronology, to appear in public.

Added DiffLines:

** An explanation was provided years ago: Magnetos power's when used at the higher levels frequently cause detrimental effects to Magneto's mental state (sometimes Lorna's as well) and cause him to have megamaniacal episodes. He literally wasn't thinking straight at the time so his actions naturally don't make sense.

Added DiffLines:

** While it varies from country to country no country is outright friendly and safe for mutants, hence why the mutants of the world have never just picked up their lives and moved there. It's all some flavor of bad, some are just worse than others.

Added DiffLines:

** Rogue's powers do more than just copy her target's powers, she literally sucks the life out of them, that's why her victims usually lose their powers when she drains them, their bodies are too weakened to use them. The stronger the mutant the more likely they are to be able to still use their powers after being drained.

Added DiffLines:

** In the 90's cartoon Xavier rarely appears on the field and when he does there's usually no civilians around, The X-Men don't exactly hang around and chat with the media/police. Most people in that universe have no idea who the X-Men are, let alone that they even have a leader.

Added DiffLines:

** Because most adaptations of the X-Men have Jean as an adult so the term 'Girl' no longer fits her. And having a name with 'Marvel' in it could easily cause people to think she's related to Captain and Ms. Marvel.

Added DiffLines:

** The threats need to be real because the danger the team is facing is real and they need to be ready for that. You don't want to condition your team to think lethal threats aren't really lethal.

Added DiffLines:

** It survived. It was worried at the end because it didn't know for sure it could survive what was coming.

Added DiffLines:

** Because you never know when she might actually need her powers acti9ve and easily available. Supervillains and anti-mutant forces don't call ahead before they attack.
