---> The subplot is also funny where Mr. Ernst buys a bullhorn to call out to the staff but it can't stop playing loud music. He tries to use it as a loud speaker using phone lines but that doesn't work. Finally, he buys walkie talkies which happen to be stolen from the police.

* The escalation of the Jed ruse. The first problem is it leads to the kids having way more chores since they have to cover Jed's. They contemplate killing him off, but then "his non-existent parents" would have to "come to claim the non-existent body," so maybe "just a crippling accident" would solve the problem. They eventually stage an elaborate fight with a dummy to get him fired. It seems to work. But then Mr. Ernst informs them Jed came to apologize, so he decided to give him another chance. Someone is doing all the chores, guests are talking about how nice Jed is, someone's been sleeping in an empty bunk... Jake finally snaps, repeating, "JED LIVES! HE LIVES...!" until his friends slap him out of it. Danny keeps insisting, "There has to be some explanation for this -- mass hallucination, hysteria, a collision with an alternate universe, but one thing is certain: Jed. Does. Not. Exist!" Cue some new guy walking in, talking casually as if he knows them, referencing pieces of the back story they designed for Jed... they've begged him to go back into their minds where he came from before Mr. Ernst chooses to reveal he knew all along and was just giving them a taste of their own medicine... which means he knew exactly what he was doing earlier when he dumped all that food on "Jed" keeping his head covered with a cardboard box.

* In "Ghost Stories," Mr. Ernst, while clicking a pair of hedge clippers open and closed, mentions he once heard a story about a ranch owner who went insane with a pair of hedge clippers because his staff were so busy scaring each other that they weren't getting their chores done.

** The pair's frustration with their situation escalates until they're finally screaming their heads off at each other over a fence after Lucy's unable to chisel the chain off. When Ted yells that he'd rather be handcuffed to a pit bull that hasn't eaten in three weeks, Brad's so furious, she can't think of a comeback, prompting Ted to announce, "Call a doctor! SOMEBODY, CALL A DOCTOR! The insult sector of her brain has seized up!" Brad then somehow gets pulled over the fence as they both end up on the ground.
** Lucy suggests they hold hands when they walk to stop the cuffs from cutting into their wrists.

** At first, the locksmith can't come out for a few hours because Mrs. Neiderlander chained herself to her husband's golf clubs ("some sort of social protest"). A few hours later, it gets pushed to tomorrow because the locksmith accidentally locked his tools and keys in his car.

* In "Battle of the Sexes", when Ted and Danny can't seem to catch a fish, Ted asks Danny if his people had any special "Indian tricks" for catching fish. Danny replies there was a "special thing" they did when they wanted fish -- they [[StatingTheSimpleSolution went to the store and bought some]]. Ted decides this will work because the contest rules stated that the winner is whoever ''gets'' the most fish, not whoever ''catches'' the most fish.
