Notable for its realism at the time (though not so much anymore) and for occasionally being HarsherInHindsight. One of the less famous of the nuclear war movies of the 1980s along with ''Film/{{Threads}}'', ''Film/TheDayAfter'', and ''Film/WorldWarIII''. Notable along with ''Threads'' for being on the "hard" end of the SpeculativeFiction spectrum in that, at the time, such an attack could have happened exactly as it depicted *and* that it even bears some relevance in the present.

This troper gets that its the current year and all, but a woman not getting her way is not sexism. Nor is it sexism when said woman is held to an industry standard. The previous troper is reading into things that aren't there. Dorian offered a major news story provided to her by her lover which makes her information suspect and casts the specter of a conflict of interest. It is never implied that her story would have been accepted had a male reporter done the same. Nor is it either sexist or unreasonable for the network to follow its own policies and require some standards be observed before running a story that would undermine their credibility if it had turned out to be false.

* HonorBeforeReason: Because one source just wasn't enough to go forward with a story that could have saved the world. A large dose of sexism seems to be involved too - it is implied that had Dorian been a man, the men would have been willing to go forward on one source due to the extremity of the situation.

* WorstNewsJudgmentEver: The higher-ups at CVN are more interested in HonorBeforeReason with a large dose of sexism than in listening to their best reporter and saving the world from nuclear war.

Tropes can't be "partially" subverted/averted.

** Slightly subverted in that the only nuclear exchange seen in the film is in a naval battle. Though by the end it's heavily implied that the ICBM's will soon be launched if they haven't been already.
