* FascistButInefficient: This is ultimately how Manburg's political situation can be described as. Schlatt regularly mistreated his subordinates and citizens and had a ZeroPercentApprovalRating not just among his country's citizens, but the entire server as well. [[FlockOfWolves Two out of five]] members of his cabinet were [[TheMole spies]] working against the country, a third [[UngratefulBastard helped him gain power in the first place but]] was abused to the point of becoming TheStarscream, and one [[DemotedToExtra didn't even show up]] most of the time.

* FictionalFlag: Several of the factions have flags of their own, but the most famous of them is [[https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/kkfwez/comment/gh27ebc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 the flag of L'Manburg]] designed by its founder's content creator counterpart, Music/WilburSoot. It consists of three horizontal stripes in blue, white, and red, and a black semicircle with yellow accents on its left side to symbolize the walls surrounding the nation in its early days, along with three crosses from the flag of Amsterdam in honour of fellow content creator and L'Manburg founding member Fundy, who is Dutch in real life. An official simplified version of the flag is used for its Minecraft banner design, which are used as decorations throughout the nation in Season 2.

** The L'Manburg Civil War ends on one as well. Even with Pogtopia managing to reclaim L'Manburg for themselves and killing off Jschlatt, Wilbur had managed to detonate the TNT under Manburg before committing assisted suicide. Though Tubbo and Tommy vow to rebuild, it's not going to be an easy road, with [[BombThrowingAnarchist Technoblade]] having betrayed them and [[KarmaHoudini Dream]] expected to be returning to his role as BigBad.

** Niki started out on the server as the "First Lady" of L'Manburg and a SweetBaker, but somewhere between having her beloved nation taken over by a tyrant and her subsequent oppression, having one of her closest friends "abandon" her (read: commit SuicideByCop in front of practically everyone) after detonating the country they had been fighting for, and being talked over and ignored by the New L'Manburgian cabinet, she crossed the DespairEventHorizon around the Doomsday War and was left a [[MisplacedRetribution vengeful]], tired shell of her former self, and ended up burning down the L'Mantree to show her discontentment. It took a long while for her to recover and try to heal and reconnect with others by joining the Syndicate, but even then, much of her former fire had been reduced to embers and ashes, with few resources to help her deal with her grief properly.

** Techno's post-FaceHeelTurn speech has him compare Tommy to Theseus, a hero who was scorned and exiled by his people despite saving them from evil, and asks Tommy if it's worth fighting for L'Manburg if they're just going to one day betray him. Not even two weeks later and Tommy is put on trial for griefing George's house by his own people (though he admittedly ''did'' commit the crime)--and Dream is there, trying to goad L'Manburg ''into exiling him''. It might even be an ''invoked'' example, as Dream was there during Techno's speech. Subverted, however, as Tommy gets a much lighter punishment (two weeks of probation) than what Dream wanted... only for [[DoubleSubversion Tubbo to exile him anyway a few days later as Dream increased his pressure on L'Manburg.]]

** Quackity planned to revive Schlatt to use him as a political puppet after the latter's funeral, but this was never brought up again ever. This is later [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] during Quackity's March 16 stream, where he meets Schlatt's ghost in the latter's underground gym and makes a deal to revive him if he loses a bet, which is implied to be what happens next.
** In the days leading up to the Manburg-Pogtopia War, Karl and Sapnap discussed to have their wedding after the war. Once the war was over, the two included Quackity into the relationship and settled to marry once they fixed up L'Manburg. However, the arc was seemingly aborted as the server was thrown into a whirlwind of war and politics for the rest of the season... then Quackity revived the arc by planning to marry them in Las Nevadas, only for it to be immediately destroyed when George [[ThoughtTheyKnewAlready broke the news]] that they had moved to Kinoko Kingdom. Oh, and the "Las Nevadas" finale includes Karl and Quackity going through a SecondActBreakup as a result of said miscommunication as well as their respective problems (the former regarding his deteriorating memory, the latter presumably due to relationship trauma). In other words, the marriage is indefinitely postponed because of miscommunication and mental health issues, and fans of the Fiancés just keep taking L's.

* AccentsArentHereditary: The "Sootcraft" family is played by three content creators from different places--Philza's from Newcastle (in Northeastern England), Wilbur lives in Brighton (on the ''south coast'' of England), and Fundy is ''Dutch''. As a result of this, all three of them have distinct accents from each other. There is no in-universe explanation for this.

** After being saved on numerous occassions by Ranboo and Tubbo, Squeeks the Fox winds up dying to a mere creeper explosion when being excavated towards Snowchester.

* AnachronismStew[=/=]ArtisticLicenseHistory: ''Tales From the SMP'' contains a fair amount of this, given a majority of its content is comprised of improvised roleplay. From "The Masquerade" alone, Sir Billiam shouldn't have been able to make that Vitamin B joke because all of the known B vitamins were discovered in the 1910s to 1930s (Vitamin B1, the first among them to be discovered, was discovered in 1910), while the episode is implied to take place in the tail end of the 19th century. The episode after it, "The Wild West", isn't much better either, since it stars a group of "Republican" bandits as the enemies... in an era where the Republicans were the ''progressive'' political party in the US and the Democrats were the ''conservatives''.

** All characters who are anthromorphic animals in terms of their species obviously have motifs that compare them to their animal forms, e.g. [[FoxFolk Fundy and CPK]] to [[CunningLikeAFox foxes]], [[CatFolk Antfrost]] to cats, and [[PigMan Techno]] to [[BrainyPig pigs]].

** Dream is this to Tommy. Initially, the Disc War started due to an unrelated conflict gone south, but eventually, Dream started to consider Tommy his greatest threat to having control over the server, and repeatedly tries to torment him in various ways, most notably (and not limited to) abusing and gaslighting him while in exile, which was orchestrated by Dream in the first place. This has ultimately cumulated into, to put it bluntly, an absolute shitfest of trauma and trouble.

** The second Stinger of Wilbur's lore finale is [[https://twitter.com/scivious_/status/1566175566432292864?s=20&t=Cv9LiFzXe4UJTnfr3yw36w an animation by Twitter user scivious_]], depicting [[TogetherInDeath friend the sheep being dropped off to Ghostbur]] via the AfterlifeExpress.

* AuthorAvatar: To at least some extent, every single character in the main series started out as their content creator counterpart's self-insert character. Some of them have drifted further away from this as the Fourth Wall solidified, especially as more content creators started to explicitly lean into the roleplay aspect of the series, but there are also those who ''don't'' take the roleplay seriously, so ''their'' characters still remain under the boundaries of this Trope (to put it politely).

* BeachEpisode: The premise of the ''Tales From the SMP'' episode, "[[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin The Beach Episode]]".

** A male {{deconstructed|Trope}} example can be found in Quackity, who starts showing shades of this after crossing the DespairEventHorizon at the end of a long TraumaCongaLine involving copious amounts of relationship trauma and abandonment issues as a result of DomesticAbuse as well as suffering a CruelAndUnusualDeath and a continuous loss of those he cared about, in one way or another. He turns to a mixture of extreme cynicism and a bit of IHatePastMe in the Las Nevadas arc, yet in spite of trying to appear competent and stoic, his more emotional and impulsive nature still shines through, and he tends to have PsychologicalProjection on half the people he encounters... and still carries an obvious soft spot for various characters, like Tommy, Tubbo and Slime, the latter of whom implicitly encourages him to pull away from the broken mindset. Following Slime's first canon death, Quackity finally breaks down and appears to [[CharacterDevelopment start moving on to a less destructive level of vengeful cynicism]]. Oh, and bonus points for the AnimalMotifs.

* BuryYourGays: Hilariously enough, [[InvertedTrope it's the opposite here]], as almost all characters who have been in a relationship with someone of the "opposite" (for lack of a better word) gender, or are otherwise straight, have died at some point... with the ''one'' exception being Philza Minecraft, and that might be because he's ''married to Death herself''.[[note]]That's not to say that the [[CastFullOfGay rest of the cast]] has it much better, considering the Dream SMP is a CrapsackWorld, but at least most of them are still ''alive''.[[/note]]

** Jschlatt's [[TheAlcoholic alcohol addiction]], revealed by both Fundy's spy diary and Quackity, with the former also revealing that said addiction is slowly killing Jschlatt. What seems to just be a little gag comes into play in the final battle of the L'Manburg Civil War, where Jschlatt suffers a [[KilledOffForReal fatal]], alcohol-induced heart attack.

* CompilationMovie: Quackity's "Las Nevadas" series has been made into one, compiling all the condensed episode forms of each livestream into a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHdd0jRT_ss two-hour YouTube film-video]].

** Quackity narrowly subverts this at the start of the Doomsday War by pulling himself out of a HeroicBSOD and ultimately returning to fight for L'Manburg against Dream due to being inspired by the contents of Ranboo's memory book[[note]]Dream previously stole it from Ranboo to use it as incriminating evidence against him as a traitor for L'Manburg during the Green Festival, and the book ended up in Quackity's possession around that time[[/note]], but ultimately re-hit it between his [[{{Prequel}} second]] and first "Las Nevadas" stream after being (unintentionally) abandoned by his loved ones, fully cementing himself to have put on some JadeColoredGlasses after a months-long TraumaCongaLine. This is further reinforced by his third stream in the series, judging by how he is seen straight-up spiraling down into [[TragicVillain what is arguably villainy]]. He starts to pull himself out of this again at the end of the ''fourth'' Las Nevadas stream, but that alone took another several months to accomplish.

** Near the end of Schlatt and Quackity's fateful argument over the destruction of the White House, Schlatt can be heard loudly calling Quackity a "[[BilingualBonus pendejo]]", to which Quackity responds, "Do not curse me out in-" before Schlatt interrupts him.

** cc!Wilbur's [[TieInNovel tie-in short story]] ''The Wilbur Van'' (better known as ''Hitting on 16'') claims to take place in an individual timeline, but is treated as canonical to Wilbur the character and his character arc (and thus full-canon by fans), and explores several details about the Dream SMP universe (e.g. it operates closely to real life and not necessarily Minecraft) and the Las Nevadas faction in particular.

** Schlatt retroactively confirms that LetsPlay/SMPLive is at least ''partially'' canon during an episode of Tales from the SMP.

** "The Haunted Mansion" of ''Tales From the SMP'' confirms that the Connor and Schlatt from the Dream SMP are the same ones from ''LetsPlay/SMPLive''.

** WebOriginal/MinecraftChampionship is implied to be canon to Dream SMP several times.
*** Same with the earlier tournament series Minecraft Mondays.
*** Seapeekay's character is a DimensionalTraveler, confirming MCC is canon to Dream SMP by traveling between them. This also opens up a rabbit hole of other potential servers that can be welded to Dream SMP.

** Tales from the SMP: The Haunted Mansion confirms that the Connor and Schlatt from Dream SMP are the same ones from ''LetsPlay/SMPLive''.

* DarkSkinnedBlond:
** Underneath his CoolMask, Ponk can be seen to have blond hair.
** {{Downplayed|Trope}} for Purpled, who is seen to have dark blond hair and tanned skin in a similar shade to each other.

* AnAxeToGrind: Most of the players fight with swords, but those who don't tend to use axes.

** The second Stinger of Wilbur's lore finale is animated, showing [[TogetherInDeath friend the sheep being dropped off to Ghostbur]] via the AfterlifeExpress.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Since ThereAreNoTherapists, or at least none that are qualified for the job, this tends to crop up a lot among the people on the SMP. Most notably, at least six members of the server show [[ShellShockedVeteran signs of PTSD or C-PTSD]] from the trauma they have endured, and that's not counting ''other'' potential diagnoses for other disorders.

* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: As Skeppy notes at one point while talking with Dream, pretty much the entire plot of the series could have been avoided had Dream let the L'Manbergians peacefully secede from the SMP rather than declaring war on them, as L'Manburg was a pacifistic nation and Dream would have still controlled the lion's share of the SMP had he allowed it to happen. Instead, his incessant need for control lead to him declaring a war and repeatedly trying to undermine the nation even after they forge a truce. Dream, true to form, [[NeverMyFault immediately starts insisting he did the right thing]] and leaves in a huff when Skeppy remains unconvinced.

** Boomer is often identified with frogs, most notably seen on their [[NiceHat hat]].

** Jschlatt is Dream (in Season 1) taken UpToEleven. He's a full-on fascist dictator [[WouldHurtAChild who ordered the execution of a minor]], a {{Domestic Abuse}}r, and a JerkWithAHeartOfJerk to the point of managing to piss off everyone who was just listed above with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
