This trope about characters who stop appearing for no reason. Characters who never appear to begin with would be a case of Adapted Out. Characters with a much smaller role than expected would fall under Demoted To Extra.

* In Fanfic/HellsisterTrilogy, ComicBook/Batgirl is not even mentioned or accounted for even though she's the main character's bestie. Characters such as Dev-Em or Laurel Kent avert this, though.
* In Fanfic/AForceOfFour, ComicBook/Huntress is the main character's best friend and teammate, and yet she is barely mentioned once in the first chapter.

* Shining Armour and Princess Cadence have no role in WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic fanfiction Fanfic/HeroesAndAllies, despite Equestria being under attack and being captain of the guard and a royal alicorn respectivly.

* Fanfic/AsFateWouldHaveIt: Professor Aurea Juniper, despite her major role in the games, makes no appearance throughout the fic whatsoever.

** Louie the brony dog first appears in chapter 8 as a competitor for Twilight's love. When that fails he hooks up with Winona and vanishes from the story.
** Louie's Pups Weedy, Churchill, and Leonardo are also this trope. They were the pets of Greg, Lance, and David, but quickly fade into obscurity. They do get a brief Cameo in the chapter "Suprise!" though.

* In Fanfic/TheCalvinverse, we have Bob, Retro's CowardlySidekick who first appeared in Fanfic/TroubleIsland and gets a much larger role in Fanfic/RetroChill, where he's shown to be an adorkable ShrinkingViolet who later turns to the heroes' side after seeing how badly Retro and his companions treated him. Oddly, after this he ends up being forgotten, despite being a fairly interesting character.

* Fanfic/ThePokemonSquad:
** Cameron the Photographer was a frequent RunningGag during the Sailor Pikachu-era episodes. His modern appearances, if they even exist, can be counted on one hand.
*** By proxy, this trope also applies to Paul the Three-Eyed Monkey.
** The Penguins were PutOnABus, but they are no longer mentioned, either, placing them here. The "RM's Friend" type characters met a similar fate (RM's Friend himself managed to last until "Barney Goes to the Unemployment Line", while the other three stopped being mentioned in "Sailor Pikachu's Goodbye", the same episode the penguins disappeared). Sailor Pikachu still makes occasional cameos, averting this trope.
** Out of the Yaois, Harley and Drew seem to never make appearances these days, after Barney, Rudy and Snap started taking up a lot of screentime.
*** Defied with Bert and Ernie. While they haven't had a single episode revolve around them (not even their debut episode), they get one or two lines in the occasional episode, presumably to avoid falling into this trope.
** Henry and June managed to avert this trope no less than three times, as explained in the 200th Episode. First, RM was considering getting rid of them because Sailor Pikachu left (and the characters were more tied to her than to RM; RM himself didn't particularly like the show). Then, Sailor Pikachu herself lost interest in [=KaBlam!=], effectively making them pointless as characters. The third time was when RM was pruning any character not related to Franchise/Pokemon (in order for the fanfic's title to make more sense); while that's the reason WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar were removed, the pruning didn't last long and Henry and June continue to be important characters to this day.
* In Fanfic/PrisonIslandBreak, numerous unnecessary but otherwise interesting characters have died rather awesomely. But the author regretted the presence of Nate Morgan so much that she didn't even give him a last-day-on-the-job scene. Anybody remember Nate Morgan? Of course not.

* Sometimes somebody is written in a story, then the author finds they are unnecessary and uninteresting. Too late; the chapter they arrived in is up! The greatest insult is to simply stop writing about them. They aren't given the dignity of a cool death scene that carves out the dead wood. They don't get PutOnABus to go to college or get KilledOffForReal. They don't even get one last HandWave. They just very quietly aren't there, while the author weeps in shame behind closed doors and prays nobody else notices. This is the ultimate Chuck.

* Occasionally occurs in fanfiction, usually to minor characters or Scrappies. If the author is nice though, they'll usually put the character on a bus and/or HandWave their disappearance.

* Occasionally occurs Sometimes somebody is written in fanfiction, usually a story, then the author finds they are unnecessary and uninteresting. Too late; the chapter they arrived in is up! The greatest insult is to minor simply stop writing about them.
** In Fanfic/PrisonIslandBreak, numerous unnecessary but otherwise interesting
characters or Scrappies. With the nature of fanfiction though, it's much more common for have died rather awesomely. But the author to kill off regretted the unwanted character or turn them into presence of Nate Morgan so much that she didn't even give him a horrible bastard. If the author is nice though, they'll usually put the character on a bus and/or HandWave their disappearance.last-day-on-the-job scene. Anybody remember Nate Morgan? Of course not.

* In Fanfic/the Calvinverse, we have Bob, Retro's CowardlySidekick who first appeared in Fanfic/TroubleIsland and gets a much larger role in Fanfic/RetroChill, where he's shown to be an adorkable ShrinkingViolet who later turns to the heroes' side after seeing how badly Retro and his companions treated him. Oddly, after this he ends up being forgotten, despite being a fairly interesting character.
