Shulk was willing to fight other Homs, but not outright kill them, and was more interested in tinkering with machinery. Regarding their relationship with the antagonists, Shulk grew to vehemently despise the Mechon after Fiora's "death" and their continued atrocities across Bionis while Noah never had any kind of hatred or resentment towards Agnus, even sending off their dead despite being an off-seer for Keves, [[spoiler:his resentment instead being reserved for Moebius]]. That said, he's similar enough to Shulk that he receives a variation of his outfit as his Nostalgia costume.
** Rex was a salvager who initially had a simplistic view of the world due to his young age and, by all accounts, got involved in ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'' by accepting the right job at the wrong time. Noah has a more nuanced view of the world, having lived in a country that's been at war for who knows how long and raised as a ChildSoldier whose role in the story is sparked by the appearance of a previously unknown third faction attempting to get both sides to stop fighting.
