* Cloudcuckoolander: One could say that this is partially due to [[FishOutOfWater her having spent so much time as]] [[LivingWeapon Scarlet's killing tool]], but Peril, though being the oldest of the protagonists in the main series, is also easily the least 'worldly' of them, and her mind tends to go through some rather strange logical pathways as a result. The entirety of the scene where [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext she yells at a bowl]], for example.

* TellMeAboutMyFather: Averted. She tried to find out who he was, but Secretkeeper refused to tell her. All Moon knows is his name: Morrowseer.

* BrokenMessiah: He often worries about his darkest thoughts, hating himself for them, while dragons who know him consider him a perfectly noble dragon who shouldn't have to worry about such things.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He acts very aggressive and arrogant, though he can be noble and empathetic and ultimately pulls through for the rest of Jade Winglet.

* AmbiguousDisorder: He is unaware of it (Pyrrhia not having advanced medicine), but he bears marks of psychological trauma. His irrationally low self-esteem, urges to placate [[ObviouslyEvil Cobra]], and self-acknowledged delusions of affection on her part are common in abuse victims, and much of ''Darkness of Dragons'' revolves around him overcoming his desire for Cobra's approval so he can bring her to justice.

* AmbiguousDisorder: She has NoSocialSkills, anger issues, and [[{{Yandere}} an obsessive interest in Clay]], to the point of [[InsanityImmunity being so crazy that Moon can't read her and even Darkstalker has trouble.]] Of course, the formermost two may just be a byproduct of literally being raised to be a gladiatorial killer.

* StaticCharacter: Why she wasn't given a book with her point of view like much of the rest of Jade Winglet.

* WhatTheHellHero: Calls out Moon on continuing to believe that there was some good in Darkstalker despite everyone knowing at that point that Darkstalker had engineered a magical plague to wipe out the entire IceWing tribe, among ''many'' other horrible things.

* GrayAndGreyMorality: She's a believer in this, saying that no dragon is actually evil and how everyone has their reasons for doing things, good or bad.

* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Upon learning [[spoiler:that Moon has been reading his thoughts]], his first reaction is ''fear'' that she will hate him for them.

* NotSoDifferent: He's a lot like Darkstalker, which the dragon himself points out. Both of them want to help people using animus powers and are willing to use animus magic to protect their loved ones and friends. Both of them are also very intelligent and clever but also carry deep-rooted trauma and feelings of inadequacy. The difference between them is that while Darkstalker was born with his powers and has been using them casually all his life, Qibli was born with nothing and his conscience won't let him do things like that because he knows, deep down, that it's not right to do so.

* PutOnABus: Is absent from the main party in ''Escaping Peril'' [[spoiler: due to being attacked and severely injured by Chameleon]].

* FaintingSeer: Sometimes, like during her vision of [[spoiler: the history cave explosion]] and the main prophecy of the series.

* ClingyJealousGirl: Once she falls in love with Clay. Lampshaded by Tsunami.

* MushroomSamba: She once eats a hallucinogenic frog that makes her get some... rather unusual "visions of the future".
* NeverTellMeTheOdds: When she is going to save [[spoiler: Qibli and Starflight]] from [[spoiler: Icicle]], Darkstalker warns her of the very low odds of survival and tells her to stay back because her destiny is important. She doesn't listen.

* CuteAndPsycho: When she first appears, Peril is remarkably cheerful in regards to eventually killing Clay and gladiatorial combat in general.

* TheDreaded: Everyone fears her so much for her fire scales that she stops a fierce battle just by flying in the vicinity, since everyone is scared of even getting near her, and [[spoiler: she is able to help Scarlet, who has no other allies around besides Chameleon, take over the Sky Kingdom just through everyone's fear of her, even though she no longer has her firescales.]]

* FightingYourFriend: Scarlet arranges for her to [[KillTheOnesYouLove fight Clay to the death]] after Peril demands to fight to have [[spoiler: Kestrel's execution waived]]. Peril having just betrayed them during their escape attempt, Clay wonders if she intends to go for TogetherInDeath.

* ForceAndFinesse: [[ExaggeratedTrope Exaggerated]] with her and [[spoiler:Turtle]]. Peril can kill a dragon just by touching them and is unbeatable in arena combat, but she's hopeless at anything even vaguely long-range, while [[spoiler:Turtle]] is completely helpless in battle and can't so much as fly without being tired, but [[spoiler: has animus magic, which is very rare and ''very'' powerful]].
* FriendlessBackground: All dragons besides Queen Scarlet and Osprey avoided and feared her her whole life.
* FullyEmbracedFiend: Starts out as this, in contrast to Clay (who is terrified by his SuperpoweredEvilSide). But by the end of ''The Dragonet Prophecy'', [[spoiler:Peril is the one terrified of herself, while Clay has found out he had no evil side in the first place.]]
* GenkiGirl: She is cheerful [[CuteAndPsycho even while flambeing her opponents]]. When she reappears, she's become far more brooding and serious.

* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Decides to help Clay and his friends despite her loyalty to Scarlet [[spoiler: but then betrays them. Later on, she rescues Scarlet after saying she wants to be a better dragon, but then leaves her and saves Clay's life. Then she briefly turns evil again thanks to Chameleon's necklace, until she realizes what is going on and takes it off.]]

* HeroicWillpower: Manages to still retain some of her normal personality after [[spoiler: Chameleon enchants her to forget Clay and be loyal to Scarlet with a necklace]], and eventually [[spoiler: takes the necklace off.]]

* IJustWantToBeNormal: She's quite happy about being given the chance to lose her firescales [[spoiler: until she finds out that Chameleon also gave her loyalty to Scarlet and made her forget Clay]].

* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Osprey.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After [[spoiler:accidentally burning Winter]], has this reaction, literally thinking to herself "three moons, what have I done?"

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When she doesn't remember [[spoiler: who Clay is]], Queen Ruby instantly determines that she must have been enchanted.

* PowersDoTheFighting: She relies completely on her ability to damage other dragons in a battle by touching them, so she finds she isn't quite so invincible when she gets into a dispute with Winter and he keeps dodging her.

* SneakyDeparture: She thinks about doing this in ''Escaping Peril'', but stops when he realizes Tsunami and Starflight would assume she is a traitor going to help Queen Scarlet. So she decides to pursue Scarlet after explaining what's going on to Clay [[spoiler:but [[DoubleSubverted Turtle runs into her and makes her leave without telling him.]]]]

* AbusiveParents: A part of the [=IceWing=] FantasticCasteSystem, his parents constantly looked down on him for not being as skilled as his siblings, Icicle and Hailstorm. They also blamed him for Hailstorm being captured by the [=SkyWings=] despite Hailstorm sacrificing himself to let Winter get away.
