* DirtyCoward: [[spoiler: He was this as a child, where he used Percy's identification card to escape from the police rather than going with him as planned.]] Given the circumstances, however - and the fact that he was a ''child'' - it's easy to sympathize with him.

** The fact that [[spoiler: Arthur sounds younger than Percy in flashbacks isn't just a fluke, it's because he ''is'' younger, but pretended not to be to escape the train.]]
** In the Train Station, you can find a list of kids who were taken to Germany on the train. [[spoiler: Arthur is on this list, but Percy isn't, since he was never supposed to go in the first place.]]

* AmbiguousDisorder: Well, not that ambiguous, since WordOfGod is that Percy is on the Autistic Spectrum but he was never diagnosed because Autism hadn't been properly discovered in the 40's. He was often described as "dim" or "slow" by many characters. He always mentioned the dates and times of events he described, he wasn't very good at reading people's emotional states, and not only was he a rubbish liar, he didn't seem to understand why telling a girl's mum that ''he'' was in a tree outside her bedroom instead of his brother doesn't actually help. Understanding why people are upset was also not one of his strengths, as he reacted with confusion when Arthur got mad at him for spending the whole day riding the tube up and down without telling anyone where he was. He also had a limited vocabulary, a bad stammer, and he often used words or phrases wrong. Also the only person he felt comfortable talking to was Arthur. Additionally Arthur mentions that Percy didn't like toys because they were just imitations and he wasn't fond of ''anything'' that wasn't the real thing - which has a hidden meaning in how Joy doesn't provide ''real'' happiness.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He has this reaction in the DLC [[spoiler: after he comes to believe that he's Foggy Jack. Fortunately it turns out he's not when he meets the ''real'' Foggy Jack.]]

* FantasticRacism: In addition to expressing bigotry against Germans, Uncle Jack also expresses this sentiment towards Downers and Wastrals, encouraging hatred of the former and fear of the latter. At one point he even suggests that human sacrifices take place in the Garden District.[[note]]He turns out to be partially correct; one of Sally Boyle's missions involves preventing the Yam Cult from sacrificing Ed [=MacMillan=].[[/note]]

* SomethingCompletelyDifferent: After being the woke, meek, bureaucrat, and the desperate mom, you’re thrust into the shoes of an insane belligerent Scotsman. You’d think the story of a soldier who snapped, would be the darkest of the three, but its quite the opposite.

* AndNowForSomethingCompletelyDifferent: Their existence causes a GenreShift in the story of the game, giving it a level of sci-fi that could have been {{handwave}}d as Dr. Faraday just simply being extraordinarily smart on Joy.

* BerzerkButton: A minor example- he doesn’t seem to like it when people address him as "Jack" or "Mr. Worthing".

* NoSympathy: He's angry at Sally for [[spoiler:having sex with his dad]], but it's implied that his father was forced her and she didn't have a choice and was blackmailed. Arthur doesn't consider that idea, either unwilling to [[BrokenPedestal view the situation that way]] or because his memories are still addlled from Joy.

* MadBomber: In "We All Fal Down", he reveals that he was planning to blow up Haworth Labs and cut off Joy production forever when the Bobbies caught him. [[spoiler: Victoria has to do it in his stead.]]

* EveryoneWentToSchoolTogether: Arthur mentions that a Margaret wossname went to school with him, Percy, and Sally. Justified, as they all live in the same town and it's small enough that almost everyone knows each other.

* FailOSuckyname: His birth name is Norbert Pickles. No wonder he uses his stage name.

* WizardNeedsFoodBadly: In addition to the risk of being killed by enemies, Constable can also die if his Joy meter runs out. He must take Joy each night to survive, but every night the price of it increases, meaning he has to kill and loot more enemies just to keep himself going.

* MeaningfulName: Her first name is a combination of "Maharaja" (great ruler) and "Kumari" (Princess/Goddess), her middle name "Indira" is a reference to the first female Prime Minister of India, Indira Ghandi, and her last name "Devi" is Hindu for Goddess.

* InTheBlood: Sally seems to believe this about her, mentioning in her diary that she's afraid of Gwen growing up to have her father's heart. Even though Sally is the only real parental figure in her life.

* GoodAdulteryBadAdultery: Played with. The game executes this in a very morally ambiguous way. In some instances it's a case of implied IDidWhatIHadToDo, in other cases either she’s enabling an adulterer, or the heart broken suitor is an victim.
** [[spoiler: She slept with Arthur’s married father. Though, in the same conversation, Arthur abandons her after she mentions she has a baby. Its heavily implied that citizens of Wllington Wells would hurt children. Valid arguments could be made both, for, and against Arthur’s choice.]]
** She serves the role of TheMuse for at least one married man. Its heavily implied that Sally had a much more positive influence on him. His wife, in contrast, is very negative and discouraging.

* AmbiguousSituation: [[spiler:It is unknown if he is still alive in Germany or surviving in the wilderness or killed off during the train accident.]]

* SpannerInTheWorks: In his quest to escape Wellington Wells, Arthur stumbles upon and presents the truth of the German tanks left behind by the occupation to Ollie. This would trigger a series of events that lead to Ollie broadcasting Uncle Jack's LostEpisode [[spoiler: where he breaks down and confesses that the city is doomed and the Wellies should stop taking Joy.]]
