He is disliked in universe (and even out of universe by some fans) for being weaker than Tygra, but at the same time the show demonstrates that valuing strength has caused a lot of problems, and Lion-O's values of kindness and mercy are what will ultimately help save the world. On top of that, a big part of Lion-O's character development is him learning to stop trying to be a badass and to value his cunning, clarity, and leadership over his strength and power when solving problems or facing enemies.

Though much of this consists of [[TheChampion championing]] Lion-O, she also occasionally sides with Tygra, once joining him in trying to talk Lion-O down from a vengeful rage, and in another instance, explaining to Lion-O why Tygra is TheResenter.

* DisabledInTheAdaptation: In contrast to his original portrayal, Panthro has an injury so severe it cause glaucoma and loses his arms in the thirteenth episode.

* IdiotBall: Normally WiseBeyondHerYears, Kit [[spoiler:ruins the [=ThunderCats=]' ambush to save the Elephants by yelling at the bad guys to [[WhatAnIdiot leave them alone]].]]

* ShesGotLegs: Does she ''ever.'' It's emphasized by her miniskirt, and a garter that her bolo hangs onto.

* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:Even ignoring the fact that she wants revenge on someone who was too far to either hear or see her, she willing chose to be resurrected and serve Mumm-ra, the very being who not only attacked her home, but also enslaved her people and was the one pretty much caused her death in the first place.]]

* BadassAdorable: Amongst their feats, the Thunderkittens have outwitted a [[OurGiantsAreBigger Giant]] by dosing themselves with a fruit that induces CaffeineBulletTime and leading him straight into carefully laid tripwire. They're also very adorable children.

** His BattleCry of "Thunder... THUNDER... THUNDERCATS, HOOOOOOO!!!" causes his Sword Of Omens to transform and turn from [[RetractableWeapon dagger to longsword]] unlocking its [[SwordBeam full combat potential]], and projecting a BatSignal of his [[IconicLogo royal emblem]] to summon allies.

* FatalFlaw: Jealousy. In every way, Tygra was better than Lion-O, but couldn't inherit either the crown or the Sword of Omens as he wasn't of royal blood. When Cheetara showed potential interest in Lion-O, this made Tygra even more jealous, even saying 'And like the sword, one more thing you don't deserve'. This would cause him to openly question Lion-O's leadership and even led to a fight between the two in Between Brothers. [[spoiler: The biggest factor was that the Astral Plane showed that when the two brothers visited ruins in their youth, Tygra intentionally destroyed a large branch that Lion-O was on and made him fall into a pit. Lion-O initially thought the branch snapped by itself, but after seeing the truth, he was furious and called out Tygra on his jealousy, leading to the fight.]]

* FatalFlaw: [[MasterOfTheMixedMessage Her tendency to send mixed signals.]] For the first season, Cheetara gave Lion-O the idea that she was attracted to him, much to his delight and Tygra's jealousy. She unknowingly fueled the rivalry between the two brothers by unclear with her feelings and sending mixed signals to them. [[spoiler: She admits this in the end of Between Brothers, where she acknowledges her part in the fight and confesses her feelings to Tygra. Even after she gets with Tygra, she continues to send these signals to Lion-O, which he calls her out on.]] [[spoiler: Before Lion-O went off to fight Slythe, Kaynar and Addicus, Cheetara claimed that they needed to stick together. After Tygra and Cheetara arrived to help and the former was defeated, she threw down her weapon and claimed she needed to stick with Tygra, contradicting what she had said before. Had Panthro not arrived, the three heroes would've been captured or killed.]]
