* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Even though Clem has taught him to be smart for his age, he's still a child born in a post-apocalyptic world, without any proper adults to turn to. This means he doesn't know how to interact with others normally and he's still immature. For example, when he and Clem get a bedroom at the boarding school, he wants to sleep under the bed to get an advantage on intruders, not catching on that it's safe to sleep in the bed. He also takes a toy from Tenn and says it's his now, reads Aasim's journal without his permission, and eats dinner impolitely -- all of which Clem can choose to scold him over.

* BadassBaritone: Especially after [[spoiler:Lilly kills Doug/Carley.]] It drops to a frightening growl.

* StrongFamilyResemblance: He looks a lot like Rebecca and his possible father, Alvin. He also looks practically nothing like Carver.

Each time, the setting will always be the train they took to Savannah, apparently, it was the place where Lee helped Clem to prepare on how to survive. * AmbiguousDisorder: Several characters in Season 3 worriedly note that he hasn't learned to talk as a toddler, though they're cautiously optimistic that he's just a late bloomer. In "Done Running" he's shown to have a lack of empathy and has a habit of stealing/intruding. His poor social skills, poor etiquette, and habit of attacking those who are behind him may feed the disorder but it's more likely a result of the apocalypse. Clem notes that he has not had a chance to be a kid or interact with other kids around his age. However, his introverted personality and rash actions point to some type of antisocial disorder. Any façade of AJ's collapses and he goes back at being a terrified and heartbroken little boy, like the one Clem found at the [=McCaroll=] ranch.
