!!Katherine Pierce a.k.a. Katerina Petrova (portrayed by Nina Dobrev)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katherine-8_6773.jpg

->''I will always look out for myself. If you're smart, you'll do the same.''

Katerina Petrova ('''''Bulgarian:''' Катерина Петрова''), better known as Katherine Pierce, is a witch of the Traveller subculture, the assumed third doppelgänger of Amara, a former vampire, a major antagonist and one of the main characters. She was the main antagonist of season one (through John Gilbert's and Isobel's actions, as both were working for her), and one of the antagonists of season two. She was also a recurring character in the third and fourth seasons. Finally, she has a main role in season five. Katherine's notable ancestors include Amara, who was Silas' true love and presumably the world's first immortal woman, and Tatia, whose blood was involved in the creation of the spell of immortality that was cast on the Mikaelson Family and the curse that bound Klaus' werewolf side. She is also the maternal ancestor of Isobel Flemming and the latter's biological daughter, Elena Gilbert. She was once the romantic interest of Stefan and Damon Salvatore, as well as Mason Lockwood. Since the late 15th century, she has also been the romantic interest of Elijah, with whom she was involved, until he effectively ended their relationship by leaving to join his half-brother Klaus in New Orleans. Katherine is a member and distant ancestor of the Petrova Family.
----

* AbhorrentAdmirer: To Stefan. Stefan couldn't stand Katherine and wanted nothing to do with her in the earlier seasons. Part of the reason for this is because Stefan held a strong resentment towards Katherine for playing Damon and himself (Stefan) against each other and forcing them to keep Katherine's identity as a vampire a secret. On top of it, Katherine had lied, manipulated, fed on and compiled Stefan for a prolonged period of time and had even fed him her vampire blood against his will through compulsion so that Katherine would turn Stefan into a vampire (along with Damon, although no compulsion was needed for Damon to drink from her). Stefan also had fallen deeply in love with Katherine's doppelgänger and descendant Elena, mostly because she was ''nothing'' like Katherine according to him. This made Katherine extremely hateful, vengeful and jealous towards Elena that in season two, Katherine made repeatedly attempts to kill Elena and harm Elena's loved ones. This furthered Stefan's anger and resentment towards Katherine.
** [[spoiler: However, this became subverted in season five. It seems as though Stefan was still holding onto some minor resentment towards Katherine regarding the things she had done to him in the past century, Stefan finally forgave her as she was dying, something that Katherine had been wanting from Stefan for over a century.]]
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: To Nadia. It was revealed that Nadia is Katherine's long lost daughter. Katherine had Nadia when she was a teenager. Katherine has also been a vampire for over 500 years, therefore, she has not physically aged. Nadia is also a vampire, but actually looks older than Katherine; this could be because Nadia was turned at an older age than when Katherine was turned.
* [[ActingForTwo Acting For Three]]: Nina Dobrev portrays Katherine, Elena and [[spoiler: Amara.]]
* ActionGirl[=/=]DarkActionGirl: Katherine knows how to kick ass when she has to.
* ActionFashionista: Katherine is usually kicking ass in her most fashionable and trendy clothing.
* ActionMom: As of season five, since it was discovered that [[spoiler: she is Nadia's mother.]]
* ActionSurvivor: Katherine has become this [[spoiler: especially now that she is human and vulnerable.]]
* ActorSharedBackground: Nina Dobrev is Bulgarian in real life, as is Katherine in universe. This led to a misunderstanding on what we must assume was the writers' part: Nina Dobrev is sometimes referred to as "Nina Dobreva". In Bulgaria the "a" at the end of her surname is a way to denote that she is a female member of the Dobrev family.
* AlasPoorVillain: As of season five, Katherine has been aging rapidly after consuming the cure at the end of season four. One can't help but feel sorry for her now that Katherine is dying, as she is seeking redemption for her past sins now. Subverted as of 5x11
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Katherine's affections for Klaus in the fifteenth century and Damon in the nineteenth century.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: For Stefan and Damon now that both claim to prefer Elena over her. However, Katherine's love for Stefan was stronger and she spent over a century stalking and pining for him.
* AllWomenAreLustful: Katherine is a highly sexual individual and she often uses this to get her way.
* AllWomenLoveShoes: Averted. While it hasn't been shown that Katherine has an actual shoe obsession, it is obvious that Katherine loves her high heels and stilettos. This comes with being a fashionista.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Katherine is an attractive and beautiful brunette who is smart, chic, composed, sexy and aloof.
* AlphaBitch: Tied with Rebekah for biggest bitch in the entire series.
* AlwaysSecondBest[=/=]AlwaysSomeoneBetter: With regards to Elena for Damon and Stefan, and Tatia for Elijah and Klaus.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Katherine's morality seems to be in the morally grey area. while Katherine has done many immoral deeds and acts, she does show that she has some humaity buried inside somewhere, considering how she helps the Salvatore brothers from time to time.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Katherine has proven that she can be rather ruthless when it comes to getting what she wants.
* AntiVillain: Katherine is a [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type II]].
* AnythingThatMoves: Katherine has been with many men throughout the centuries and she is a seductress. See FemmeFatale.
* ArchEnemy: Elena and Klaus. Katherine hates and resents Elena for getting the chance at a happy life she never did. In regards to Klaus, Klaus slaughtered her entire family out of revenge and Katherine has been running from Klaus ever since.
* TheAtoner: Katherine wants forgiveness and redemption now that she is dying in season five. [[spoiler: Subverted when she takes over Elena's body and returns to her old ways.]]
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Katerina Petrova has a nice ring to it, especially when Damon or Elijah say it.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Like Damon, she has the ability to get under other people's skin by accurately reading their body language. Has a perfect moment of this with [[spoiler: Rebekah]] in 4.18.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: With Elijah, Stefan and even Damon. Although all three men have claimed to either hate or resent Katherine, it is obvious that they all harbor a hidden affection or attachment to Katherine.
* AxeCrazy: Subverted. It may seem so in the beginning, but flashbacks and interaction with other characters make it perfectly clear that Katherine is very much sane, just really obsessed [[spoiler: with saving her skin from Klaus.]]
* {{Badass}}: Katherine is one of the most badass characters in the entire series and one of the strongest female characters in the series.
** BadassBoast: Katherine has an ego and does her fair share of bragging.
** BadassInDistress:: Katherine becomes this in the fifth season as she becomes a human after being cured of her vampirism. Because of consuming the cure and being mortal, she becomes significantly more vulnerable and finds herself in trouble more often.
** BadassNormal: [[spoiler: Katherine is shown that she can still hold her own as a human if the season five premiere is any indication. She has proven to be capable of using the environment around her to her advantage to boot.]]
** BroughtDownToBadass: In the fifth season, Katherine may have lost all her superhuman abilities due to being cured of her vampirism and becoming human, but she was still majorly kick ass when she had to be. See BadassNormal.
** CulturedBadass: Seems to have been born into a wealthy Bulgarian family and was portrayed as being nobility in the 1400 and 1864 flashbacks.
** HeartbrokenBadass: In regards to romance and her family. Katherine hasn't had any luck with romance and men.Her family ended up being killed because she ran from Klaus after learning that he was going to sacrifice her in order to break his hybrid curse.
** TookALevelInBadass: After Katherine became a vampire.
* [[BaitAndSwitchBoss Bait And Switch Big Bad]]: After a season of build-up around her, her appearance right at the end of season one where she stabs John Gilbert ([[TheWorfEffect the previous seasons BigBad]]) in the gut seems to be setting her up as season two's BigBad. However, it transpires that she is in fact only running away from the real BigBad, [[spoiler: Klaus]].
* TheBaroness: Katherine is a femme fatale who is selfish, ruthless and domineering. Katherine is of the Sexpot flavour.
* BastardGirlfriend: Especially to Stefan in 1864. Not only did Katherine basically bite Stefan against his will and feed from him, but she also continuously compelled him to not be scared of her after he discovered what she truly was ''and'' to drink her blood against his will. Subverted with Elijah.
* BavarianFireDrill: Good at doing this when impersonating Elena. In fact, Katherine has managed to trick Bonnie, Stefan, Matt and Damon into thinking she is Elena and even admits that she has gotten really good at it.
* TheBeautifulElite: Especially during the flashbacks during the 1400's and 1864. Katherine acted like a socialite.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Subverted. Katherine may be physically beautiful but she is very manipulative, vain, cold and selfish by nature. See BeautyIsBad.
* BeautyIsBad: Katherine may be physically beautiful but she can be very manipulative and immoral.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Damon and Stefan. Arguably, even with Klaus and Elijah at times.
* BerserkButton: Stefan seems to be a major one for her. The best way to get a reaction of anger or worry is to do something to Stefan. Hurt Stefan and the outcome won't be pretty. Katherine will come after you. What can also get Katherine's berserk button going is Stefan rejecting her.
** To a lesser extent, Damon. She has helped him out in the past whenever he has needed help.
** Betraying or outsmarting Katherine is a huge no-no.
* BettyAndVeronica: Katherine/Stefan/Damon with Katherine being the Archie for Stefan's Betty and Damon's Veronica. Also, arguably, Stefan/Elena/Katherine with Stefan being the Archie for Elena's Betty and Katherine's Veronica.
** Now, there seems to be a possible triangle shaping up between Stefan, Katherine and Caroline with Stefan being the Archie to Caroline's Betty and Katherine's Veronica.
* BigDamnHeroes: Occasionally. Sometimes Katherine will save the day or help out the Salvatore brothers, especially if there is something in it for her in return.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Damon. In terms of outlook and personality, Katherine and Damon have a lot in common and are quite a bit alike.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Katherine comes across as playful and harmless, but she is manipulative and cunning.
* BlessedWithSuck: Katherine is a Petrova Doppelgänger, meaning that she was basically a human blood bag when she was a human and that she was destined for a life of pain, tragedy and suffering.
* BlueBlood: Katherine seemed to have come from a wealthy and noble Bulgarian family.
* BodySnatcher[=/=]BodySurf: In 5.11, [[spoiler: Katherine takes possession of Elena's body using a Traveller's spell in order to survive.]]
* BrainyBrunette: Of the MagnificentBitch type.
* BreakoutCharacter[=/=]BreakoutVillain: Katherine is a very popular character within fandom and amongst the public.
* BreakTheCutie: Katherine was a sweet girl before losing her daughter and being forced to run from Klaus. The girl who once said life without believing in love was too cruel has become a manipulative, selfish woman.
** CorruptTheCutie: Indirectly by Klaus. Running away from Klaus and having her family murdered by him darkened Katherine's personality significantly.
* BritishAccents: Katherine adopted an English accent during the 1400's flashbacks after she was banished from Bulgaria to England.
* BrokenBird: Katherine's tragic life began after Klaus murdered her entire family back in Bulgaria.
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler: As of the season four finale and season five, Katherine is currently human.]]
* BrownEyes: One of Katherine's physical defining traits.
* BrutalHonesty: Katherine will never hesitate to tell anybody exactly what she thinks, even if it's hurtful.
* [[ByronicHero Byronic Heroine]]: Katherine has a dark past and has committed many immoral acts. At the same time, Katherine could be viewed as a tragic character.
* CainAndAbel: A non-sibling version with Elena with Katherine being the Cain to Elena's Abel.
* CameBackWrong: After the cure was drained from Katherine's bloodstream, her 500 years of vampirism have started catching up to her at an accelerated pace.
* CatchPhrase: Although she doesn't use it that often, "better you than I" has been coming up a lot.
* TheChessmaster: Katherine is cunning, strategic and manipulative. She always has an agenda.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: Katherine has zero issue with backstabbing others in order to get what she wants. Subverted with Elijah. She was going to betray him but couldn't because she honestly fell in love with him.
* CleavageWindow: Katherine often wears clothing that shows off her upper assets.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Especially in regards to Stefan and Damon.
* ConsummateLiar: Katherine is very good at lying and manipulating others in order to get what she wants.
* TheCorrupter: Katherine is the type to revert people to the dark, rebellious side.
* CostumePorn: Katherine's dresses and outfits during the 1400's and the 1864 flashbacks. See ImpossiblyCoolClothes, PimpedOutDress and GorgeousPeriodDress.
* CourtlyLove: With Elijah and Klaus in the 1400's and also, with both Stefan and Damon in 1864.
* CrazyPrepared: Always has a backup plan.
* CuteAndPsycho: Katherine is beautiful but she can be rather scheming, manipulative and psychotic.
* CynicismCatalyst: One could argue that Katherine became the cold, selfish, vengeful and manipulative person she did is because of Klaus and the fact that he murdered her entire family all to get back at Katherine for running from him and trying to stay alive. The murder of Katherine's family could have been the moment that Katherine became a much darker person who lost her innocence.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Immediately recognizing the threat Klaus posed to her and Damon's plan in 3.09 and correcting that oversight shows how dangerous and brilliant she is.
* TheDarkChick: To Elena's TheChick.
* DarkActionGirl: In contrast to Elena, Caroline and Bonnie's ActionGirl.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: ''Oh dear.''
* DarkIsEvil: Katherine wears a lot of dark or black clothing.
* DarkMistress: To Stefan, Damon, Elijah and Mason.
* DatingCatwoman: Katherine's relationship with Stefan and Damon back in 1864 was not considered to be appropriate considering that she is a vampire.
* DeadpanSnarker: Even snarkier than Damon at times.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: Averted as Katherine hasn't died. However, when Katherine discovers that she is dying, she has been trying to seek forgiveness from others and wants redemption for all of her past actions. The person she seems to want forgiveness from the most is Stefan. Katherine feels that Stefan caring for her means he considers her worthy of forgiveness.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Around Stefan, Damon or [[spoiler: Elijah]], Katherine's humanity seems to come through.
* DemotedToExtra: In season 3, she appears sporadically for the first half of the season, then takes off after Homecoming.
** Returns to a significantly more important role as of the second half of the fourth season.
* DesperatelyCravesAffection: In Katherine's case, the trope should be renamed ''Desperately Craves Stefan's Affection''.
* TheDeterminator: Katherine NEVER gives up or quits and she is known for being a survivor. She has spent over 5 centuries running from Klaus, messing with his plans, and trying to kill him because he murdered her family.
* [[DidNotGetTheGirl Did Not Get The Guy]]: In regards to Stefan and Damon. They are both in love with Elena and don't give Katherine the time of day anymore.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: This happens in season 2 when most people thought Katherine was the main villain. It was actually Klaus.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Katherine hates it when others feel sorry for her.
* DoomedHometown: After she escaped the Originals, they got their revenge by murdering her entire family.
* {{Doppelganger}}: Katherine is the doppelganger Amara and Tatia. Katherine's doppelganger is Elena.
* [[spoiler: DraggedOffToHell]] : [[spoiler: Unable to pass through Bonnie and dragged off to a dark world. WordOfGod says she's never coming back.]]
* DrivenByEnvy: Much of her attacks against Elena and her loved ones in the second season were driven by Katherine's jealousy of Elena, who she saw as replacing her. Towards the end of Season 2 however this abated.
** Returned in full force as of season four.
* DrivenToVillainy: The death of Katherine's family has driven her to always look out for herself in order to survive.
* DudeMagnet: Katherine appeals to many different male characters including Stefan, Damon, Elijah, Mason Lockwood, and Trevor.
* EntitledBitch: Katherine can be very selfish and a SpoiledBrat when she doesn't get her way. Katherine has felt like she deserves the life that Elena has.
* EternalLove: Katherine hoped to spend an eternity with Stefan. Stefan had already fallen deeply in love with Elena, her doppelganger.
* EveryProperLadyShouldCurtsy: Katherine did a lot of curtsying during the 1400's and also during the 1800's in the flashbacks.
* EverythingsSparklyWithJewelry: Katherine has always had a penchant for accessories.
* EvilCounterpart[=/=]EvilTwin: To Elena. See LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine, CainAndAbel, and RedOniBlueOni.
* EvilFeelsGood[=/=]EvilIsCool[=/=]EvilIsSexy: She's ''Katherine Pierce''. Probably the most badass female character in the series and always a survivor.
* EvilTastesGood: Definitely enjoys the vampiric side of life.
* EvilIsPetty: Some of Katherine's actions against others are out of envy and malice.
* TheFashionista: Katherine has a penchant for expensive clothing and fashion.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Katherine can be polite when she wants to be but has no problem plotting someone else's demise.
* FemmeFatale[=/=]TheVamp: Katherine is a beautiful, seductive woman who often uses her charms in order to get what she wants.
* {{Foil}}: To Elena. See LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine.
* FoolForLove: Oh so much in regards to Stefan, especially in season five. Instead of actually focusing on developing a relationship with her long lost daughter Nadia (who, you know, has been searching for her for 5 centuries and even became a vampire all so she could find her mother), Katherine is much too busy obsessing with Stefan and acting like a lovelorn, obsessive and lovesick schoolgirl over Stefan. Katherine was so desperate for Stefan to love her that in 5.11, [[spoiler: she goes to extremes by stealing Elena's body and possessing it using a Travellers spell, all so that Stefan would think she is Elena and fall for her again.]] Let's just say that when it comes to Stefan and her love for him, Katherine is extremely irrational.
* ForTheEvulz: Katherine can be very petty and manipulative.
* FreudianExcuse: One could argue that Katherine became who she is because of her very tragic backstory, which included having her baby daughter taken away from her after she was born, Klaus chasing her in order to have her killed and sacrificed and as a punishment for running from Klaus, Klaus murdering her entire family.
* FriendlyEnemy: To Stefan and Damon on occasion. Katherine will help out the Salvatore brothers from time to time, but she often seeks to get something out of it in return.
** To Caroline in Season 5.
* GiantPoofySleeves: Many of her outfits during the 1864 flashbacks had giant sleeves.
* GirlyBruiser: Katherine is very feminine but she can still kick major ass when she has to.
* GirlyGirl: Katherine is really feminine.
* GorgeousPeriodDress: Katherine wore many of them in the 1400 and 1864 flashbacks.
* GrandTheftMe: In 5.11 [[spoiler: Katherine possesses Elena's body using a Traveller's spell.]]
* GreenEyedMonster: Katherine has a jealous streak, especially in regards to Stefan and Damon. See ClingyJealousGirl.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: It's really hard to tell which side Katherine is on sometimes.
* HellBentForLeather: Katherine is usually seen wearing black leather jackets.
* HereditaryCurse: Katherine is descended from a line of Petrova {{Doppelganger}}'s. She has passed down the doppelgänger curse to her children and as a result, the Petrova doppelgänger lineage continues every 500 years. Katherine is the doppelgänger of Tatia while Elena is the doppelgänger of Katherine.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler: She was the one more or less responsible for Jeremy's death with Silas to finish him off.]]
* HiddenDepths: Katherine may seem manipulative and bitchy but if one looks back into her past, it's rather tragic.
* HopeBringer: Is strangely this. Characters speak of her as a legend or as a way to show that it is possible to defeat or evade Klaus. She's also used as a threat against Klaus by Damon in Season 4.
* HotGirlsAreBitches: Katherine is beautiful but very manipulative.
* HotWitch: Katherine is actually a witch and possesses magic.
* HumiliationConga: Has been going through a big and rather well-deserved one in season five.
* IceQueen: Katherine is the epitome of this trope. She is selfish, cold, manipulative and vain. She is described to be coldhearted and will use people in order to get her way without feeling any guilt afterwards.
* IfICantHaveYou: Katherine threatened Stefan that if he didn't break up with Elena, she would kill Elena and her loved ones. Stefan of course did [[BerserkButton NOT react well to this at all]].
** She even says it word for word in 5.15 [[spoiler: regarding Stefan that is she can't have him, then no one else will.]]
* IJustWantToBeLoved: This could be one of the major reasons as to why Katherine is desperate for Stefan to love her. Katherine has most likely always suffered from a degree of loneliness and feeling unloved or unworthy of love due to her troubled past.
* ILoveYouVampireSon: Katherine fits this trope on regards to Stefan and Damon. She turned them both in order to be with them forever.
* IWillWaitForYou: Katherine has repeatedly said that she will wait forever or for an eternity for Stefan to love her since the second season.
* {{Immortality}}: Katherine is a vampire. She has the ability to live forever without physically aging. Although Katherine physically looks like she is 18, she is actually over 500 years old.
** Katherine is Type V: TheUndead. Katherine is a living dead person.
** Katherine is also Type X, a LifeDrinker. She drinks human blood in order to survive.
* ImmortalsFearDeath: Katherine is absolutely terrified of dying and will do just about anything to prevent it. This has formed her arc in season five as we see her succumb to the effects of age and realize she can't save herself any longer.
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: During the flashbacks in the 1400's and 1864. Even Katherine's modern wardrobe is sophisticated and chic.
* ImpracticallyFancyOutfit: See PimpedOutDress and GorgeousPeriodDress.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Katherine has been shown to be very selfish, self-indulgent and narcissistic. She is all about self preservation and looking out for herself, even at the expense of others.
* {{Jerkass}}: Katherine is so incredibly obnoxious, selfish, sarcastic and snarky that many of the characters who interact with her often find her intolerable.
** JerkassFacade: Underneath that cold, selfish and icy demeanour is some degree of humanity. However, there are only a very select group of people who managed to bring it out (i.e. Stefan).
** JerkassHasAPoint: When she, as Elena, refused to get back together with Damon and cited all of the reasons they are a bad couple and she didn't want to be with him, it's exceptionally hard to find a single flaw in her logic. Most viewers saw her as the OnlySaneMan.
** JerkJustifications: Type I and Type III. Katherine does immoral acts out of self preservation thanks to her past. She had her baby taken away from her, was exiled from her own him, was chased by Klaus for centuries and had her entire family slaughtered by Klaus as a punishment for running from him.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Katherine brought Damon the cure instead of running in Season 2. She also tanked a brilliant plan to kill Klaus in order to protect Damon and bring back Stefan's humanity at the same time. The woman multitasks. And in season four, [[spoiler: she gives the cure for vampirism to Elijah. Keep in mind that this is the only weapon/advantage she has against Klaus, and she willingly and unselfishly hands it over to Elijah because he's the only person who still believes that she has some good in her somewhere.]]
** JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: In season 5.
* JokerImmunity: Katherine is a very popular character within the fandom. So, although she isn't featured on the show all that much, the writers have chosen not to kill her character off for good. Instead, she is a recurring character that comes and goes in every season.
** Can't hurt that she shares an actor with the main character, making bringing her in very easy.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Katherine is often seen being badass in her expensive and chic clothing.
* KickTheMoralityPet: Katherine claims to love Stefan so much for over a century, yet she has repeatedly done things that have both indirectly and directly hurt Stefan and those that he loves and cares about. Yet, even when she does these things, Katherine expects Stefan to reciprocate her feelings when she really hasn't done anything to earn Stefan's love, affection or concern.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: Does this to Damon in 5.14 [[spoiler: when she tries to trick ripper!Damon into feeding on her so that Stefan would kill Damon. Unfortunately for Katherine, her plan doesn't work.]]
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal]]: [[spoiler:Stabbed by the Traveller knife in Gone Girl.]].
* KissOfDeath: Katherine kisses Stefan before Stefan stabs and kills her with the Travellers Knife.
* LadyAndKnight: A variation of this with Stefan in 1864 with Stefan being the Knight to Katherine's Lady.
* LackOfEmpathy: Katherine doesn't really show that much remorse over what she's done
* LadyOfAdventure: Katherine has traveled around the world.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Katherine is the Dark Feminine to Elena's Light Feminine. They are polar opposites in personality, despite being [[{{Doppelganger}} physically identical]]. Although now that Elena is a vampire their personalities are balancing out more.
* LivingMacGuffin: Katherine was one back in the 1400's for Klaus as she was the doppelgänger that was going to be used to break Klaus' hybrid curse.
** She was one for Silas for a time vecause [[spoiler: she is human after ingesting the cure for immortality in the season four finale and Silas wanted the cure running through her veins. Katherine even humorously refers to herself as a "moonstone".]]
* LongLostRelative: Katherine was revealed to be Elena's distant maternal ancestor in season two.
** [[spoiler: It was revealed in 5.05 that Katherine is the long lost mother of Nadia.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight: According to flashbacks in 5.10, Katherine had seen Stefan before she had physically met him and she found herself instantly and strongly drawn to him.
* LoveHungry: Oh so much in regards to Stefan, especially in season five. Her obsession with Stefan has reached Qetsiyah levels of obsession and craziness.
* LoveHurts: Katherine has faced heartbreak in the name of love.
* LoveInterest: Katherine was a love interest to Elijah in 1492, and to Damon and Stefan back in 1864. She is also a love interest to Damon, Stefan and [[spoiler: Elijah]] in the present.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: Katherine stalked Stefan around for over a century.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: After stealing Elena's body in 5.11, instead of taking Nadia and leaving Mystic Falls with her, Katherine decides to stay in town so that she could get Stefan back. Which is a really stupid idea, considering that Stefan and everyone else would eventually find out that she is not Elena and that she is really Katherine. [[spoiler: The Mystic Falls gang does end up founding out Katherine's secret, which only resulted in Stefan finding out, her daughter Nadia dying, and Katherine being killed by Stefan himself. Nice going, Katherine.]]
* LoveRedeems: Maybe not so much redeems, but bits and pieces of her humanity and softer side come out, especially in regards to both Stefan and Elijah.
* ManipulativeBitch[=/=]MagnificentBitch: Katherine will manipulate, scheme, play mind games and will toy with others emotions in order to get what she wants without guilt.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: With both Stefan and Damon in 1864, Katherine was already a 350+ year-old vampire while Stefan was a 17 year old human and Damon was a 24 year old human.
* MeaningfulName: The name Katherine means "pure". Ironically, Katherine represented innocence, naivety and purity before her life changed and turned into a tragedy.
** Her last name is Pierce. She does a lot of "piercing" (ahem, if you know what that means).
* MemeticSexGod: Both in-universe and out of the universe. Katherine is known to be a highly sexual individual and she seems to be rather spontaneous in the bedroom as seen with all of her love making scenes with male characters.
* MissingMom: To Nadia. Nadia had been taken away from Katherine immediately after she had given birth to her. In season five, Katherine is finally reunited with Nadia after 500 years.
* MonsterSobStory: Katherine's tragic past was revealed in flashbacks during season two.
* MoralityChain[=/=]MoralityPet: Stefan is hers.
* MotorMouth: Even Damon thinks she needs to shut up at times.
* MsFanservice: Katherine often wears revealing and skimpy clothing that shows off her assets and appeals to both the male characters and the male audience.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: In season two, Katherine threatened to kill Elena and everyone she cared about if Stefan didn't stop being with Elena.
* {{Narcissist}}: Katherine is very vain, proud and selfish. She thinks a lot of herself and always believes that she is one step ahead of everyone else.
* NiceHat: Katherine sometimes wore hats during the 1864 flashbacks along with her PimpedOutDress and OperaGloves.
* NiceShoes: Katherine wears a lot of them, primarily high heels and stilettos.
* NobleDemon: Katherine has her moments of taking the moral high ground although this is a rarity and this has only happened a few times with a few people (i.e. Stefan, Damon and Elijah, for example).
* NotGoodWithRejection: Katherine didn't take it too well when Stefan told her that he hated her.
* NotSoDifferent: Makes this argument to Elena throughout the series, but most notably in season four after Elena turned into a vampire.
** Subverted in She's Come Undone.
* OfCorsetHurts: See OfCorsetsSexy.
* OfCorsetsSexy: As part of Katherine's wardrobe during the flashbacks (1400's and 1800's), Katherine was seen to wear many corsets as part of her outfits.
* OperaGloves: Was seen wearing them during the 1864 flashbacks.
* OppositesAttract: With Stefan and Elijah. Both Stefan and Elijah are moral and noble while Katherine is highly morally ambiguous.
* ParasolOfPrettiness: Katherine had a parasol or umbrella in 1864.
* ParentalAbandonment: In regards to her daughter Nadia. Nadia was taken away from her by her father immediately after she had given birth to her.
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: When she is not resorting to kicking ass and fighting her opponents, she is good at making a point with her words, being very blunt and never holding back.
* PetTheDog: Katherine has a few of these moments, such as mourning Stefan's death in a flashback, or bringing Damon his cure in the season finale. Also her conversation with Stefan regarding humanity was this.
** And in 4x18 [[spoiler: her love and gesture of trust towards Elijah]].
* PimpedOutDress: Wore plenty of fancy dresses during the 1800's and in the 1400's as well.
* ThePollyanna: As a human girl. Katherine seemed to be rather idealistic, naive, optimistic and romantic by heart in the 1400's flashbacks. This changed when she became a vampire and suffered tragedy over the centuries.
* ProperLady: Appeared this way during the and 1400's flashbacks and also the 1864 flashbacks.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: Katherine is this way in regards to both of the Salvatore brothers due to the brothers being in love with Elena.
* RapidAging: Has been developing a slower but still deadly version of this after Silas drained the cure out of her blood. Her hair has been turning grey, her teeth are falling out, and she is only estimated to live a few months longer.
* ReallyGetsAround: Katherine is a beautiful, seductive woman who often uses her charm, feminine wiles and her sex appeal in order to get what she wants. Because of this, Katherine has been with many men during the course of her immortal life.
* RedOniBlueOni: Katherine is the Red (passionate, impulsive, strong) to Elena's Blue (logical, calm, empathetic).
* RegalRinglets: Katherine's hair is curled outside of her Elena impersonations.
* TheResenter: Towards Elena. Katherine has always been jealous of Elena and has resented her because Elena has the life that she always wanted.
* {{Retcon}}: In Season 5, it's revealed that Katherine comes from a family of witches. How they were so easily killed by Klaus is unexplained.
* TheRival: To Elena and Rebekah for the attentions of the Salvatore brothers.
* TheRunaway: Katherine has been running from Klaus for 500 years.
* SensualSlavs: Katherine is originally from Bulgaria.
* ShadowArchetype: To Elena at times. Sometimes it's inverted and Elena seems like a shadow of Katherine.
* ShesGotLegs: And some pretty nice ones too.
* ShipperOnDeck: Surprisingly, for Stelena.
-->'''Katherine to Elena:''' There's still a connection between you two (Stefan and Elena). Maybe, deep down, you know that he's your one true love and breaking up with him was a big mistake.
** Katherine even bluntly states (while she is pretending to be Elena while possessing her body) to Damon as she breaks up with him that she and Damon are just not good together and that they have managed to bring out the worst in each other. The funny thing is that Katherine is saying all of the things that Elena herself should be saying to Damon.
* ShowSomeLeg: Katherine often uses her physical attributes to get what she wants.
* SilkHidingSteel: Although Katherine may appear tough as nails and highly ruthless, Katherine is actually really vulnerable and emotionally fragile underneath her tough exterior.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: With primarily Stefan. For over a century to be exact.
* SmugSmiler: One of Katherine's signature expressions.
* SmugSuper: Katherine brags that Bonnie's witchy ju-ju migraine doesn't work on her since she has been around for a long time. Not to mention that she lords it over Stefan that she is immune to the effects of vervain since she has been dosing herself with vervain for the last century.
* TheSnarkKnight: Katherine is very sarcastic and snarky, she can even out-snark Damon.
* {{Socialite}}: Especially during 1864. It is even apparent that Katherine was a status seeker during the 1400's.
* TheSociopath: Lying, murdering, and manipulating are as natural as breathing to her. Subverted in that she does care about some people.
* SpannerInTheWorks: She does this a lot by showing up when you least expect her. [[spoiler: In "Down the Rabbit Hole," she steals the vampirism cure that everyone has been looking for, and assures Silas' awakening]].
* SpiritedYoungLady: As a human girl. Katherine retains some of her spirited and passionate traits as a vampire.
* SpoiledBrat: Katherine seems to get everything she wants, even if she has to resort to manipulation tactics.
* StalkerWithACrush: Katherine is this for Stefan and sometimes Damon as well. She seems to think that Damon can look after himself better though.
* StartOfDarkness: In Season 2, we learn what made Katherine become more cold, selfish and immoral. Klaus had been obsessed with finding her after she ran from him, because Klaus wanted to sacrifice her life so that he could break his Hybrid Curse. After Katherine committed suicide and became a vampire, she fled to her hometown. It was there that she discovered that Klaus got to her entire family and murdered them all in revenge. This devastated Katherine and ever since then, Katherine became a darker, more selfish person, only looking out for herself and basing her immortal life on self-preservation.
* {{Stripperific}}: Some of Katherine's outfits and clothing can be raher provocative and revealing.
* SugaryMalice: Katherine is very good at appearing sweet and polite to others when she needs them to further her agenda.
* SupernaturalIsPurple: If Katherine isn't seen wearing black clothing, she is often seen wearing purple from time to time.
* TallDarkAndSnarky: Katherine's middle name should be sarcasm.
* TheTease: Katherine's specialty is teasing and flirting with the opposite sex.
* TeenPregnancy: Katherine had a daughter out of wedlock when she was seventeen.
* TragicVillain: Katherine becomes a much colder, unkind person due to her tragic past. Klaus had killed her entire family out of revenge for Katherine running from him.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: With Elena due to the doppelganger curse.
* UndyingLoyalty: Appears to have this for the Salvatore brothers. She appears to trust them above anyone else in her life.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Elijah, Damon and Stefan. Sometimes even with Klaus.
** As of 4x18, it looks like she and [[spoiler: Elijah]] resolved it.
* VampiresAreSexGods
* VanityIsFeminine: Katherine is very beautiful, proud, narcissistic and vain.
* VillainessesWantHeroes: With [[TheHero Stefan]].
** [[spoiler: [[NobleDemon Elijah]]]] presents an interesting case.
* VillainousBreakdown: Goes through ones when trapped in the cave by Damon and Stefan and when Damon plans on feeding her to Silas. Season five has seen a slower and steadier one as she realizes she can't fight off her aging and will soon be dead.
* VillainousValour: Katherine NEVER gives up.
* WickedCultured
* WomanInBlack: Katherine always wears black or purple clothing.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: In 2.09, "Katerina", we find out that she gave birth out of wedlock; wasn't even allowed to ''hold the baby'' before it is given away; and then she gets sent away to England ( keep in mind that she most likely was all alone when she first came); then she meets and falls for Klaus, and has feelings for/trusts Elijah, only to find out that they both ''wanted to kill her''; and then she tries to kill herself in order to stay away from Klaus, only to have vampire blood forced into her system; then she uses that to kill herself and become a vampire; and when she returns home, her ''entire'' family, along with anyone else that she loved, and most likely, ''the whole village'' is dead, killed by Klaus.
* XanatosSpeedChess: Is very good at this. It's why she has evaded Klaus for so long.
* [[{{Yandere}} YANDERE]]: OH SO MUCH in regards to Stefan, so much that Katherine could be the TropeCodifier. Katherine was very obsessed with Stefan for over a century, so much so that she spent most of Stefan's immortal life stalking him and following him around wherever he went. Now, as of the fifth season, she is so obsessed with him that Stefan has literally become the major reason for Katherine wanting to live.
** PsychoticLoveTriangle: With Elena and Rebekah over Stefan's affections. Stefan sure does attract some obsessive and psychotic women.

Silas (Ancient Greek: Σίλας), known as The World's First Immortal Being, was an extremely powerful warlock and a former member of The Travellers who became one of the world's two first, oldest and most powerful immortal beings along with his true love, Amara, The World's First Immortal Woman. Silas was born some time during 1st Century B.C. According to the legend of Silas, his best friend and then fiancee Qetsiyah -- who was obsessively in love with him -- was the one who created the spell that granted him immortality, hoping that he in turn would grant her the same gift. However, Silas had fallen in love with another woman who was his true love, and was going to give her immortality instead of Qetsiyah so they could be together for eternity. Deeply enraged, jealous and vengeful, [[MurdertheHypotenuse Qetsiyah murdered Silas' true love]] and [[WomanScorned sealed Silas away with just one thing: the cure for his immortality.]] Silas had two choices: take the cure and die, or stay immortal and sealed away. So Silas stayed alive and rotted for ''two thousand years'', becoming consumed and twisted with hate and vengeance. And if he ever gets out, it will spell TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt. Silas was one of the only two characters to become truly immortal along with Amara, one of the two most powerful witches along with Qetsiyah, was the oldest character in the series universe alongside Qetsiyah and Amara, and overall, the most powerful character in the series' universe. Silas was a distant ancestor of the Salvatore Family, and the progenitor of the Salvatore Doppelgänger bloodline.
----
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Every single character either hates him or fears him. Understandable considering Silas is the ultimate villain that the characters have ever faced.
* AGodAmI: Comes with being a 2,000+ year old immortal with powerful psychic abilities.
* TheAce: Silas was one of the most powerful witches before he became truly immortal.
* AchillesHeel: Amara. Although Silas is the bad guy, Amara is his one true weakness.
* ActingForTwo: [[spoiler: Paul Wesley will be playing both Stefan, one of [[TheHero our heroes]], and Silas, the BigBad, in season five. This is similar to Nina Dobrev playing the double roles of Katherine and Elena.]]
* ActuallyIAmHim: In the season four finale, [[spoiler: Silas reveals to Stefan that he is in fact Silas, the very first immortal being. Silas then reveals to Stefan that he created the immortality spell and as a consequence, a doppelgänger line was created for Silas. Silas revealed to Stefan that Stefan is his shadow self or doppelgänger.]]
* AerithAndBob: With Qetsiyah. Silas seems like a pretty normal sounding name but Qetsiyah sounds very unique.
* AlasPoorVillain: When Silas dies and crosses over to the Other Side where he ends up trapped with Qetsiyah for eternity and separated from his true love Amara forever (who had died and crossed over to the afterlife and found true peace), one can't help but feel sorry for Silas. He spent 2,000 years starving and fossilizing in darkness as an immortal being, an immortal and eternal life that Silas wanted to spend with Amara in the first place, and all his suffering and misery turned out to be for nothing in the end as he didn't even find true peace with his soulmate in the end.
* AllForNothing: Silas starved and desiccated while being entombed in darkness for over 2,000 years ''and'' resisted the cure for immortality in order to not become a mortal, die and cross over to the Other Side so that his soul would be eternally trapped with Qetsiyah, all out of his strong love and devotion for and to Amara. Silas was eventually freed by the Mystic Falls gang so that he would roam freely on Earth and possibly unleash hell upon Earth. Silas caused much chaos, destruction and turmoil for many Mystic Falls residents all because he wanted to take the cure, become mortal again, have Bonnie drop the Veil to the Other Side, destroy the Other Side permanently and die so that Silas could be reunited and find peace with his true love Amara in the afterlife. Unfortunately, none of this happened. Qetsiyah brought herself back to life from the Other Side, planning on finishing what The Brotherhood Of The Five couldn't accomplish 1,000 years ago, which is the mission for them to find Silas, cure him and kill him so that he would end up on the Other Side with Qetsiyah for all time. After Silas took the cure and became a warlock once more, Silas discovered that Amara was not actually dead, and was instead, used by Qetsiyah as the physical anchor to the Other Side. Silas and Amara reunite after 2,000 years, their dreams of being together for eternity as immortals shattered forever. Amara consumes the cure and becomes a mortal human again. Silas and Amara confess their love for each other but Amara tells Silas that even though she strongly loves him, her desire to die and find true peace is just as strong. Silas understands and Amara pleads for Silas to kill her himself and end her 2,000 year plus suffering. Silas ends up being killed by Stefan, his doppelgänger and distant descendant, after he is stabbed in the chest with a knife. As a result, Silas ends up dying and crossing over to the Other Side and sadly, Silas spirit passes through Amara before he goes to the Other Side. With Silas now dead, Amara realizes that she truly has nothing to live for adding to the fact that she has lived 2,000 years of suffering, pain and misery. Amara tells a dead Silas that their eternity will start after she dies, hoping that she will finally find true peace with her soulmate after 2,000 years. Amara stabs herself with the same knife and dies. Unfortunately, Silas crossed over to the Other Side and Amara died and found true peace in the afterlife, meaning that Silas and Amara ended up separated in death. To make matters worse, Qetsiyah kills herself and dies, crossing over to the Other Side so that she could be with Silas after she transferred the anchor from Amara to Bonnie. This means that Silas endured over 2,000 years of suffering and misery only to not end up finding true eternal peace with Amara. This means that Qetsiyah managed to achieve her 2,000 year goal: Silas and Amara being separated for all time. ''Tragic''.
* [[AlphaBitch Alpha Bastard]]: OH SO MUCH. Everyone thought Klaus was the nastiest, most dangerous, and most powerful being in the series universe? ''Silas definitely takes the cake.''
* AmbitionIsEvil: Silas' ruthlessness, ambition and determination to be reunited with his true love in death comes at the cost of tragedy, death, suffering, pain, torture, hurting others and wreaking havoc.
* AncientGreece: Where Silas is originally from.
* AndIMustScream: He's been imprisoned alive for two millennia, and has been going through desiccation much like vampires do. By the time Bonnie and Jeremy find him, his body has stopped desiccating and is now ''fossilizing''.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: With Amara in 5.07. Silas tells Amara that he loves her and Amara tells Silas that she loves him. Amara asks Silas to kill her in order to relief e her of her 2,000+ year suffering due to being the physical anchor for the Other Side.
* AntiVillain: Silas is mixture of [[NobleDemon Type I]][=/=][[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds Type II]]. Yes, Silas is the BigBad and the currently villain of the series, but when one looks back at Silas' history, one can understand why he became such an evil person. Silas' true love, Amara, was brutally murdered by Qetsiyah before he could do anything to stop her. On top of it, Qetsiyah entombed Silas in darkness to starve and dessiccate for eternity, all because Qetsiyah was incredibly jealous, vengeful and hateful and couldn't handle the fact that Silas loved someone else and not her. If this happened to anyone, it is almost certain that that person would turn hateful, vengeful and warped.
* ApocalypseMaiden: Silas is willing to destroy the world if it means being reunited with his true love in death. Professor Shane even said that if Silas rises, "it would be the end of the world and he will wreak havoc."
* ArchEnemy: Silas is this to every single character on the show, considering that he is the current BigBad.
* ArchNemesis: Qetsiyah. Silas strongly hates her. She brutally murdered his true love, Amara and then entombed him in darkness to starve for eternity.
* ArtifactOfAttraction: The cure for immortality, which was buried along with Silas for over two thousand years. Many characters in the series (including The Originals, Elena, Stefan, Jeremy, Damon, Katherine, etc) were basically at war over the cure for the course of the fourth season, so much that some were willing to wake Silas and raise the possibility of him wreaking havoc in order to obtain the cure.
* AssholeVictim: Silas became a immortal all in the name of love but because he betrayed both nature and Qetsiyah, he ended up starving and desiccating underground for over two millennia instead of being with his true love Amara and spending an immortal life and eternity with her.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Silas is a pretty cool name and it is fun to say.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Silas knows exactly how to get under people's skin easily, probably because he can easily read other people's minds and know what they are thinking on the spot.
* AxCrazy: Silas is downright sociopathic and psychotic, albeit in a cold and restrained way.
* BackFromTheDead: More like being risen from being buried alive for over two thousand years.
* {{Badass}}: He's '''Silas''', the very first immortal being in the world.
** BadassBaritone: In Silas' illusionary monstrous form. Subverted in his true form. See EvilSoundsDeep.
** BadassBoast: He constantly reminds others that he can torture them whenever he wants and will always be one step ahead of them. The hell of it is that, so far, he's ''right''.
** BadassInDistress: Silas was entombed while starving for over 2,000 years.
** BroughtDownToBadass: Silas became mortal once again after he consumed thee cure from Katherine's blood. However, even though he lost his abilities as a powerful immortal being, he was still a very powerful warlock once he was cured of his immortality after 2 millennia.
** CulturedBadass: Silas is from 1st Century B.C. and therefore, he is highly sophisticated and cultured. He also seem to have come from a wealthy family from what is seen in the flashbacks.
** HandicappedBadass: [[spoiler: Silas has currently lost his psychic and mental powers due to Qetsiyah suppressing his mental powers by doing a spell linking Stefan to Silas and wiping Stefan's memory.]]
** HeartbrokenBadass: Silas' true love Amara was murdered by Qetsiyah. On top of it, Silas was entombed in darkness for 2,000+ years. See WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds.
** LikeABadassOutOfHell: Silas was entombed in darkness for over 2,000 years while starving and desiccating until he was released in season four.
* TheBadGuyWins: Instead of Silas dying, Bonnie ends up dead and because of her death, the spell which she cast on Silas which turned him to stone, ended up being broken. So Silas ends up being alive and well and roaming the earth. If that isn't bad enough, Silas ends up locking Stefan (his doppelgänger) in a safe and throwing the safe off a cliff into the water, where Stefan will repeatedly drown underwater while he starves and desiccates the same way that Silas did for two millennia. To make matters worse, Silas will be posing as his doppelgänger during season five and nobody will be able to tell that Stefan is suffering, drowning and starving while being locked in a safe underwater.
* BadSamaritan: Silas pretended to care about Bonnie by helping her control her magic, but he was just using and manipulating her in order to get what he wants.
* BadPowersBadPeople: Silas uses his powers to manipulate and torture others without any remorse.
* BassoProfundo: In Silas' monstrous form, who is voiced by Jason Spisak.
* BastardBoyfriend: Could count as one to Qetsiyah, considering that he cheated on her with Amara and stole her portion of the immortality elixir and gave it to Amara so that he and Amara would become immortals.
* BatmanGambit: Silas always knows what everybody is planning and he is always one step ahead of everyone else. Nobody can manipulate or deceive him without him finding out the truth. Silas can also manipulate others into getting them to do exactly what he wants.
* BattleCouple: With Qetsiyah during 1st Century B.C. Silas and Qetsiyah were the most powerful witches amongst a group called The Travellers.
* BattleOfWits: Versus Qetsiyah of course. Both Silas and Qetsiyah are the most powerful witches in the series who are constantly trying to outsmart each other.
* BavarianFireDrill or : Briefly tried to pose as his doppelgänger, Stefan at the beginning of season five while trying to cause much chaos in Mystic Falls in a discreet manner.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Desired immortality so that he could be with Amara for eternity, only to end up being separated from his true love, entombed in darkness and starving for two millennia as an immortal creature.
* BecameTheirOwnAntithesis: Silas went from being a gifted, powerful warlock who was relatively happy to a vengeful, hateful, malevolent immortal creature who suffered for over 2,000 years while being entombed in darkness, starving and fossilizing.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: Silas was destined to be with Amara, his OneTrueLove. Silas, as well as Qetsiyah, also says that the Universe wants his and Amara's doppelgängers (i.e. Stefan and Elena) to be together.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: Being entombed in darkness for over two thousand years while starving and desiccating (''to the point of fossilization'') was clearly the perfect recipe for a very hateful, psychotic, and vengeful villain indeed.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Qetsiyah.
* BerserkButton: '''''DO NOT''''' betray Silas or try to outsmart him. ''You'll regret it.''
** Also don't ''ever'' call him a vampire. He thinks vampires are a ''perversion'' of what he is.
** '''DO NOT''' hurt or harm his true love Amara in any way, shape or form. He will get revenge and ''HE WON'T STOP.'' When Qetsiyah appeared to have "killed" Amara in the flashbacks, Silas went [[TheBerserker completely and totally berserk]] and was [[UnstoppableRage extremely enraged]]. He was going to kill Qetsiyah on the spot.
* BettyAndVeronica: The love triangle between himself, Qetsiyah and Amara. Silas is the Archie to Amara's Betty and Qetsiyah's Veronica.
* BiggerBad --> BigBad: Silas is the main villain of the fourth season. He is also the major villain for the fifth season as well.
** BigBadEnsemble: [[spoiler: Silas and Qetsiyah are expected to be this in season five, since Qetsiyah is rumoured to appear in the fifth season. It seems though she currently is now that she has made her first appearance in 5.03 and has stepped out of BiggerBad status.]]
* BigNo: When Silas discovers that Qetsiyah cured and killed Amara, Silas goes completely berserk and loses it.
* BlackCloak: Silas wore one in his illusionary monstrous form.
* BloodMagic: Once he's ingested someone's blood, [[spoiler: he can appear to them in the guise of people that are important to them. And if he's had ''all'' of their blood, he can take on their own appearance at will, as Professor Shane found out. Once he ingests enough blood to regain his full powers, he can appear as literally ''anyone''.]]
* BodyguardCrush: Silas was in love with Amara, a poor girl who was Qetsiyah's handmaiden.
* BoyMeetsGirl: Silas meets Amara and falls in love with her instantly.
* BreakTheCutie: In regards to every single character on the show. Silas has tormented and tortured nearly every single character one way or another, either directly or indirectly. And he's just getting started.
* BreakTheHaughty: Silas does this to Klaus. First, Klaus gets his ass handed to him, and then Silas stabs him in the back with Rebekah's white oak stake, breaking it off in the process. In the next episode, Klaus is in excrutiating pain, using a pair of pliers to tear his back open in a futile attempt to get the stake out before the splinter can reach his heart. Then Caroline arrives, Klaus begs her to help...only to find out that it's Silas again, who promises to fill Klaus' days with nothing but misery and torment until he gets him the cure for immortality. And when the real Caroline shows up, Klaus is curled into a foetal position on the floor, completely fucking terrified, still in pain and begs Caroline - whom he thinks is still Silas - to leave him alone. Not even '''Mikael''' could reduce Klaus to a snivelling, pleading wreck the way Silas had done.
* BreakoutVillain: Silas seems to be shaping up to be this, in the same fashion as Klaus and Katherine.
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler: In 5.05, Silas drained a human Katherine of her blood, which contained the cure for immortality, therefore, Silas is now a warlock once more and a mortal being.]]
* BrutalHonesty: Says exactly what is on his mind, albeit highly sarcastically.
* CameBackStrong: An inversion. After Silas consumed Jeremy's blood as well as the blood from blood banks, Silas is now at his strongest and most powerful. The more blood that Silas consumes, the more powerful he becomes.
* CanonForeigner: Silas doesn't exist in the book series, although his character could be an expy of The Old Ones, the oldest, most dangerous and most ancient vampires in the novel series. In fact, Silas could be seen as the show equivalent of book!Klaus.
* CardCarryingVillain: Silas is a powerful villain and purely evil...and he makes this known to everyone.
* CartwrightCurse: Silas DOES NOT have good luck with love and romance.
* TheCasanova[=/=]ChickMagnet: Silas seemed to attract plenty of women during his mortal life.His best friend, Qetsiyah, was in love with him to psychotic and obsessive levels, so much that she actually murdered another woman who was also in love with Silas. [[spoiler: Ironically, his doppelgänger Stefan seems to have the same gift of attracting the opposite sex and having women fall in love with him, sometimes to obsessive levels.]]
* TheChampion: For Amara.
-->'''Silas to Amara in 5.03:''' "Just as you are mine, I am yours forever."
* TheCharmer: Silas is rather charming and persuasive. All in part of being a ManipulativeBastard.
* CharmPerson: Silas is able to manipulate and control others with the use of his very powerful psychic abilities in order to get others to do what he wants. This is what makes Silas currently the most dangerous character in the series universe.
* TheChessmaster: Silas '''IS''' this trope.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Qetsiyah. They seemed to have grew up together and they were best friends before they became engaged.
* ChivalricRomance: With BOTH Qetsiyah and Amara during 1st century B.C.
* CompleteImmortality: Not only is Silas immortal, but there is literally nothing that can weaken or kill him. Except the cure for immortality.
* ConsummateLiar: Silas is very good at lying and manipulating others in order to get them to do what he wants, most notably Bonnie.
* CorruptTheCutie: Does this to Bonnie many times by getting her to delve into dark magic.
* TheCorrupter: To basically everyone, but primarily to Bonnie.
* CourtlyLove: With Qetsiyah during 1st century B.C.
* CrazyPrepared: Silas is always one step ahead of everyone else. Literally nobody can defeat him.
* CrusadingWidower: Silas' true love was brutally murdered and now he is willing to do absolutely anything, including wreaking havoc and causing destruction, in order to be reunited with her in death.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler: Gives one to Klaus, who until now has been the most powerful supernatural being. As if he wasn't dangerous enough already.]] Then he follows it up with [[spoiler: psychological torture, appearing to torment him in the shape of Caroline ''and'' making him hallucinate that he's dying from having the white oak stake lodged in his spine.]]
** [[spoiler: He gets his own in "The Walking Dead" -- Damon, seeing right through his impersonation of Alaric, knocks him to the ground and restrains him with a chain around the neck long enough for Bonnie to [[TakenForGranite turn him back to stone.]] Unfortunately, upon her death, the spell breaks, and he proceeds to give one of these to Stefan, his doppelgänger.]]
* CursedWithAwesome: Silas is a true immortal and therefore, '''NOTHING''' can kill him. However, Silas views his immortality as more of a "curse" now that his true beloved is dead and he spent his whole immortal life (over 2,000 years) entombed in darkness for eternity.
* CynicismCatalyst: Silas' true love (Amara) was murdered by Qetsiyah. His main mission for wreaking havoc on everyone is because he wants to be with his true love in death.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: When you read up on Silas' past and history, calling it this is really quite an understatement.
* DarkIsEvil[=/=]EvilWearsBlack: He has a strong preference for wearing darker colors, especially black.
* DarkMessiah: Silas is not only possibly the most powerful being in the world, but he is also ''THE'' very first immortal being ever created.
* DatingCatwoman: With Amara. Although Silas was in love with Amara, his love for h her was forbidden as Silas was engaged to be married to Qetsiyah.
* DeadpanSnarker: Silas has a sharp wit and sense of humour. He is also very sarcastic.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: [[spoiler: In Season Five, Silas will be posing as or pretending to be Stefan (his doppelgänger) while Stefan happens to be desiccating and starving at the bottom of a lake sealed in a vault.]]
** [[spoiler: Averted in the season five premiere, as Jeremy and Ghost!Bonnie see through Silas' act, and he later admits the whole doppelgänger thing to Damon.]]
* DeathSeeker: Silas wants nothing more than to die and pass on so that he can be with his true love forever.
* DeathTrap: The island where his body is sealed. It's covered with booby traps designed to kill vampires, and is populated by witches who are tasked with making sure that no-one gets at Silas.
* DespairEventHorizon: Most likely when Silas discovered that his true love had been murdered by his own best friend Qetsiyah before he could do anything about it. And afterwards, being entombed in darkness for two millennia. Because of the tragedy, Silas has most likely gone from a normal, good-intentioned warlock, to a twisted, psychotic, sociopathic, vengeful and hateful villainous immortal.
* TheDeterminator: Silas will do literally anything to be reunited with his true love, Amara, in death. '''ANYTHING.'''
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Silas wanted to be with Amara in true death in the afterlife. Unfortunately, this does not happen as Silas dies and crosses over to The Other Side and Amara dies and crosses over to the afterlife. This means that Qetsiyah got her wish in eternally separating Silas and Amara for all time.
* {{Doppelganger}}: Technically, Stefan is Silas' doppelgänger. Silas is the progenitor of the Original Salvatore doppelgänger bloodline.
* TheDreaded: Silas is this to basically every single character on the show, starting with Kol Mikaelson. The otherwise implacable, [[DeadpanSnarker deadpan]], [[AxCrazy slightly unhinged]] Original is flat-out ''freaked'' at the thought of him rising.
* DrivenToMadness: Being entombed in darkness and left to starve would make anyone turn crazy, vengeful and mad.
* DrivenToSuicide: Silas desired to become mortal and die so that he could be with Amara in the afterlife.
* DrivenToVillainy: Having your true love murdered by your own best friend out of jealousy and being entombed by that same best friend for over 2,000 years is bound to make someone turn psychotic and vengeful.
* DrunkOnTheDarkSide: Silas is so addicted to using his powerful psychic powers to do immoral acts and deeds.
* DrunkWithPower: Silas likes to use his strong psychic abilities, which he has mastered for over a period of two millennia, for bad or immoral intentions.
* TheDulcineaEffect: With Amara. He loved her so much that he created a spell of immortality just so he and Amara could be immortal together and spend an eternity with one another.
* DyingAsYourself: Silas desires to take the cure, which would reverse his immortality, die a mortal death, drop The Veil, which is a barrier separating the metaphysical plane and The Other Side, destroy The Other Side completely and cross over to be with Amara in death for all eternity. This implies that although Silas made himself immortal, he desires to be human again so he could die to be with his true love.
* DysfunctionJunction: Silas may be the ultimate villain or BigBad, but when you read back on his history and his life story, he is a walking tragedy.
* EldritchAbomination[=/=]HumanoidAbomination[=/=]MonstrousHumanoid: Silas could be considered a combination of the three although mileage may vary. Silas has been frequently described as a dangerous, evil and malevolent "creature". He is even depicted this way physically on The Hunters Mark or tattoo. One of Silas' illusions makes him appear highly disfigured, ugly and grotesque and when Silas is awoken with Jeremy's blood, he has the appearance of a fossilized monster due to starving and desiccating for over two thousand years. [[spoiler: This is now ''subverted'' since Silas is physically identical to the very attractive Stefan and is not at all monstrous in his true form.]]
* EntitledBastard: It definitely showed in how he went about manipulating Qetsiyah into creating the spell of immortality and by also wreaking chaos and havoc on everyone so that he could die and cross over to the afterlife to be with Amara.
* EternalLove: Silas and Amara were deeply in love that they wanted to live forever together. Silas loved Amara so much that he desired to spend an eternity with her. He convinced Qetsiyah, who was also in love with Silas, to create a spell for immortality. Silas then took the immortality spell and made himself and Amara truly immortal so that they could have the gift of eternal love.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Silas is a major villain who will resort to evil methods to get what he wants but he will do anything, '''ANYTHING''', to be [[TogetherInDeath reunited with his true love (Amara), the woman who Qetsiyah murdered out of jealousy and vengefulness, in death.]]
* EvilCounterpart[=/=]EvilTwin[=/=]{{Foil}}:To [[BigGood Stefan]], his doppelgänger and GoodCounterpart.
* EvilFeelsGood[=/=]EvilIsCool[=/=]EvilIsSexy
* EvilGenius: Silas is a master manipulator, master strategist and very intelligent and brilliant. He can outsmart ''anyone''.
* EvilGloating: Silas has a huge ego but it is understandable considering how powerful and indestructible he is.
* EvilHasGoodTaste: Silas is very suave, sophisticated and well put together. This could be because Silas is from a very ancient time period (1st century B.C.).
* EvilIsEasy: Silas is so good at being bad.
* EvilIsPetty: Silas' constant, casual cruelty speaks for itself.
* EvilMakesYouMonstrous: In Silas' illusionary monstrous form. Subverted in his true form.
* EvilMakesYouUgly: In his illusionary monstrous form. Subverted in Silas' true form.
* EvilMentor: Silas in Professor Shane's form. When Silas was trying to teach Bonnie how to control and use her magic effectively, this was really Silas' way of manipulating Bonnie and trying to gain her trust in order to get her to do what he wants.
* EvilPlan: Silas' goal has been to get Bonnie to drop the veil so that he can be reunited with his true love, while letting all of the vengeful spirits and supernatural beings from the Other Side who have died roam free and wreak havoc.
* EvilSorceror[=/=][[EvilSorcerer Evil Warlock]]: Silas may be a powerful warlock who practices magic, but he doesn't always use his magic for good purposes or intentions.
* EvilSoundsDeep[=/=]EvilSoundsRaspy: [[spoiler: In his illusory, disfigured monstrous form. Averted in his true form -- he just sounds like Stefan Salvatore.]]
* EvilVersusEvil: Silas versus Qetsiyah. Qetsiyah is Silas' arch enemy and is the biggest threat to his plans and agenda.
* EvilVirtues: Despite the fact that Silas is a dangerous villain, Silas actually has a few virtues:
** '''[[AmbitionIsEvil Ambition]]:''' Silas is very ambitious when it comes to getting what he wants and accomplishing his plans, goals or agenda.
** '''[[TheDeterminator Determination]]:''' Silas is VERY determined and he NEVER gives up.
** '''Love:''' His whole motivation behind his immoral acts is his love for Amara.
* EvilerThanThou: Klaus thought that he was the strongest, most intimidating, most powerful, and most badass supernatural being ever...until he got his ass handed to him in 4x18 by Silas. Guess Silas has taken the title of ''Most Badass and Dangerous Alpha Male of Mystic Falls'' from Klaus.
* TheFaceless: Only in season four in Silas' monstrous illusionary form. This was probably to keep up the suspense until Silas' true face and identity was revealed at the end of the season.
* FaceHeelTurn[=/=]FaceMonsterTurn: It's likely that before Silas' true love was murdered by his own best friend (Qetsiyah) and he was trapped in a tomb for over two millennia, [[DrivenToVillainy turning him into the villain he is now]], he was just a warlock who had good intentions.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Silas has an innocent, attractive face but his intentions and personality sure don't match his looks.
* FacialHorror: In his illusory monstrous form. [[spoiler: Subverted in his true form.]]
* FallenHero: ''Oh, dear.'' Just read about the legend of Silas and what happened to him. The term ''tragic'' isn't enough to describe him.
* FantasticRacism: [[spoiler: Silas absolutely hates all vampires, meaning that Silas hates himself and his own kind or creation.]]
* FatalAttractor: Silas hasn't had any luck with love. His true love was tragically murdered by his own best friend (Qetsiyah) and his best friend happened to be obsessively and psychotically in love with him. It seems as though [[spoiler: his doppelgänger Stefan has followed in his footsteps in regards to attracting crazy, evil and psychotic women.]]
* FateDrivesUsTogether: His relationship with Amara, his true love and soulmate, is built on the concept of destiny and fate. This concept of fate and destiny also extends to his and Amara's doppelgänger bloodlines.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Silas was buried ''alive'' for two thousand years to desiccate and starve. Death is a walk in the park compared to ''that''.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Silas is this while [[spoiler: posing as his doppelganger Stefan in the fifth season.]]
* FearlessUndead: Silas is fearless because he is an immortal who is invulnerable to everything and he is impossible to kill due to the fact that no weapon can kill him or destroy him. Silas' only ultimate weakness is the cure for immortality. Hell, Silas doesn't even fear death, in fact, he strongly advocates for his death and this was his ultimate goal throughout the course of season four.
* FinalBoss: Silas is the biggest villain or ultimate foe in the entire series as of now. He is the most dangerous considering that nothing can defeat him and that he is impossible to kill. At least with the Originals, you can either dagger them or kill them with a white oak stake.
* FirstOfItsKind: Silas is the very first immortal being (or vampire) in the world.
* FoolForLove: Everything that Silas has done has been for Amara.
* ForTheEvulz: Silas does some of his immoral acts for his own amusement.
* FreudianExcuse: When you read about the legend of Silas, you can easily understand why he became so warped.
* FunctionalMagic: Silas is a very powerful warlock who practices magic. He is also a Traveller, a sub culture of very powerful and gifted witches.
* GameFace: [[spoiler: His disfigured face looks like a cross between Freddy Krueger and Emperor Palpatine.]]
* GeniusBruiser: Definitely more of the former than the latter but Silas is very dangerous in both combat and tactical thinking.
* GenreSavvy --> DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Silas is very intelligent, manipulative and scheming. He always has a back up plan if his first few plans don't work out.
* GodCouple: With Amara. Silas and Amara were the world's very first immortal beings and the world's very first immortal man and first immoral woman respectively.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: [[spoiler: Because Silas cast the immortality spell on himself so that he could live forever, he completely messed with nature. This caused nature to strike back by creating a doppelgänger bloodline for Silas. Stefan is Silas' doppelgänger or "shadow self". It is unknown if there have been preceding doppelgängers of Silas before Stefan, but it is most likely possible, since a bloodline is needed for doppelgängers to be born.]]
* GrandRomanticGesture: Silas loved Amara so much that he desired immortality and wanted to live forever so that he could spend an eternity with Amara. So, he wanted to cretae a spell for immortality so that he and Amara could both become immortal and live forever so that they could have an EternalLove.
* GuileHero: When Silas was a warlock. It is clear that during Silas' mortal life, although Silas generally had good intentions, he was very good at manipulating others and getting them to do what he wanted, like the way he got Qetsiyah to help him create the spell of immortality so that he could become immortal himself ''and'' also make his true love, Amara immortal as well.
* HasAType: Silas admitted to Damon that he has a thing for brunettes (considering that Amara, his true love was a brunette).
* HandsomeDevil: Silas is a villain who you are supposed to hate but he is so physically attractive that you can't help but love him at the same time.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: With the exception of his true love Amara, of course.
* TheHeavy: Silas' actions drive the plot for most of season four and season five.
* HereditaryCurse: [[spoiler: After Silas cast the immortality spell on himself, he ended up screwing with nature and at least one doppelgänger of himself was created. It is presumed that Silas had a child or children with his true love in order for a bloodline to continue and for Stefan to be born, much like the doppelgänger line of Tatia (and Katherine and Elena).]]
* HeroKiller: See NeckSnap below.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Nobody knows exactly what Silas' true plans are, what exactly it is that he really wants or what he is really trying to accomplish or achieve.
* HorrorHunger: After Silas was released from the tomb in which he starved for over two thousand years, he went on a blood gorging rampage, ravishing blood bags and robbing the blood banks.
* HotGuysAreBastards: See HandsomeDevil and MrFanservice.
* [[HotWitch Hot Warlock]]: [[spoiler: Before Silas became immortal.]]
* {{Humanshifting}}: Once Silas consumes a huge amount of blood, he is able to appear as ''anyone''.
* HumiliationConga
* IdenticalGrandson: [[spoiler: Stefan is a very, very, ''very'' distant descendant of Silas as his doppelgänger. They are identical in physical appearance despite being two thousand years apart in age.]]
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Silas desperately wants to die so that he could be with his true love in death, but he can't kill himself due to the fact that he is truly immortal and thus cannot die under any circumstances.
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: Silas controls others with his psychic powers, such as illusions, manipulation and fear.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Laid buried and starved (leading to the point of severe desiccation and fossilization) for over 2,000 years because he resisted the cure for immortality in order to not die a mortal death and be stuck on the Other Side with Qetsiyah.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: Amara was brutally killed by Qetsiyah before he could do anything about it.
* IKnowWhatYouFear: Silas can read other's minds due to being a powerful psychic. Therefore, he is able to use other people's deepest fears against them for purposes of manipulation and torture.
** Silas can do '''Type 1''', '''Type 2''' ''and'' '''Type 3'''.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: In regard to Amara. Even after 2,000 years and being reunited with Amara, Amara wishes to die due to suffering as the anchor to the Other Side and she pleads for Silas to kill her himself. Silas struggles with doing so but also understands and respects her decision, even though it absolutely hurts Silas.
* [[VampiresAreSexGods Immortals Are Sex Gods]]: Silas is very attractive despite being a 2,000+ immortal.
* {{Immortality}}: Silas is the very first immortal being on Earth. [[spoiler: And without the cure, he is literally impossible to kill.]]
** He is '''[[CompleteImmortality Type I]]''', '''[[TheAgeless Type II]]''', '''[[ResurrectiveImmortality Type IV]]''', '''[[TheUndead Type V]]''', ''and'' '''[[LifeDrinker Type X]]'''.
* ImmortalityHurts: Immortality means nothing to Silas anymore now that his true love is dead. Silas sought out immortality because of her.
* ImmortalityImmorality: In order to become an immortal being, Silas, as a warlock and servant of nature, went against the laws of nature and created a spell, setting off a major imbalance. [[spoiler: This is why nature created his doppelganger line, resulting in Stefan.]]
* ImmortalityInducer[=/=]ImmortalitySeeker: Silas was a powerful warlock who, with the aid of Qetsiyah, created the spell for immortality and used it on himself, becoming the world's very first immortal creature. He wanted to share it with his true love, but Qetsiyah messed that up by murdering her and entombing him.
* ImmortalLifeIsCheap: Literally nothing can kill Silas and he is impossible to kill, since he is immortal. He is invulnerable to ''anything'' and ''everything''.
* InterClassRomance: With Amara. While Silas appeared to be more wealthy, Amara was poor.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Amara. Before they both became immortal, Silas was a warlock and Amara was a human.
* InTheHood: Silas wore a hood in his monstrous illusionary form.
* InSeriesNickname: Silas has been known as The World's First Immortal Being, The First Immortal, and The First Immortal Man.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Silas isn't at all bothered in the least by all of the death, suffering, and misery he's brought to ''dozens'' of people as long as he is reunited with his true love in death.
* {{Jerkass}}: BIG TIME.
** JerkJustifications: A mixture or combination of Type I, Type II, and Type III. Silas thought that his soulmate was dead for centuries after believing that Qetsiyah had brutally murdered her out of jealousy and on top of it, he was desiccating and starving while he was entombed in darkness for eternity on a remote island. Of course Silas is going to be hateful, vengeful and sociopathic.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold --> JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Silas was a bit of a jerk during his human years even though he generally had good intentions. However, after he was entombed in darkness and separated from Amara for over 2 millennia, Silas became downright sociopathic and vengeful.
** JerkassFacade: His jerk facade and exterior melts away when it comes to Amara.
** JerkassHasAPoint: He may be a bastard but the worst thing about Silas' speeches to Damon are that he is usually right.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: This was bound to happen to Silas considering that he was imprisoned in darkness for a long time.
* KickTheDog: Silas enjoys and gets a kick out of outsmarting, overpowering and seeing others suffer as much as possible. He's even tortured ''Klaus'' of all people.
* KillAndReplace: More like lock away in a safe underwater and replace. Silas will be posing as Stefan during season five.
* KillTheCutie: Silas kills Jeremy in 4.14 by consuming his blood and snapping his neck.
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal: Silas is stabbed to death by Stefan in 5.07, ending the 2,000+ year old warlock and former immortal's life. To make matters worse, Silas ends up stuck on the Other Side with his mortal enemy Qetsiyah for eternity and is also separated from his one true love, Amara, forever.]]
* KnightInShiningArmour: For Amara.
* KnifeNut: Silas always has a knife on him, mostly for using it to cut people so he could obtain their blood.
* LackOfEmpathy: Doesn't seem to show or care about hurting others in order to get his way.
* LadyAndKnight: Silas is the Knight to Amara's Lady. Could also be seen as the Knight to Qetsiyah's Lady.
* LadykillerInLove: Silas was in love with Amara and before he met her, it could be assumed that Silas was a bit of a womanizer.
* LastOfHisKind: Silas is the last true immortal being living on Earth.
* LeakingCanOfEvil: Even though Silas was sealed in a tomb and left to desiccate and fossilize, Silas could still use his psychic powers to torture people in the mortal world. This means that even sealed up in a tomb, Silas still had a lot of power over people and he could still cause major destruction.
* LifeDrinker: According to Professor Shane, immortals need to feed on blood to survive. Silas is no different in this regard.
* LimitedWardrobe: Understandable considering that Silas spent two millennia underground and was trying to adjust to the modern times after he was released.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: For BOTH Amara and Qetsiyah.
* LongLostRelative: Silas was revealed to be a very distant ancestor of Stefan and Damon as well as the Salvatore family bloodline.
* LoveAtFirstSight[=/=]LoveBeforeFirstSight: With Amara.
* LoveHurts: Oh dear. All Silas has wanted was to spend an eternity with Amara, his soulmate, but instead, all he has gotten is endless heartache, pain and suffering.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy[=/=]LoveMakesYouEvil: Silas is willing to do anything and everything, including causing ultimate chaos, pain, destruction, in order to be reunited with his true love in death.
* LoveTriangle[=/=]PsychoticLoveTriangle: The love triangle with Silas, Qetsiyah and Silas' unnamed true love. Also known as the original love triangle of the series. [[spoiler: It seems as though Silas' doppelgänger, Stefan, has followed in Silas' footsteps and has a habit of attracting crazy, psychotic, clingy and jealous women.]]
* MacGuffin: The cure for immortality/vampirism that lies with him. Its very existence drives the actions of the main cast for over half of Season Four.
* MadeOfIron: See CompleteImmortality, NighInvulnerability and ResurrectiveImmortality.
* MagicIsEvil: Although Silas is a very powerful warlock, he doesn't seem to use his magic or his gift to do good or moral things.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Silas is pretty much behind everything bad that is going on in the town of Mystic Falls.
* ManOfWealthAndTaste: Silas is from 1st century B.C., which is known to be a highly cultured and sophisticated period. Not to mention that from the flashbacks, it appears that Silas came from nobility and wealth.
* ManipulativeBastard[=/=]MagnificentBastard: And ''how''! Silas is the most manipulative and ruthless character in the series as of now.
* MasterOfDisguise: This is Silas' speciality. Because of Silas powerful psychic abilities, he can make himself appear as anyone.
* MasterOfIllusion: Silas powerful psychic abilities are what make Silas the most dangerous character in the series universe. On top of the fact that Silas is immortal and cannot be killed or destroyed.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: Silas is evil but Paul Wesley is the nicest and funniest person ever.
* MeaningfulName: Silas is a masculine name of Latin origin, which means "forest dweller" or "woodland dweller". Ironically, Silas' name is derived from a forest god, as in the series, he is considered to be the ultimate enemy of nature.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: It is obvious that Silas is severely twisted, sociopathic, psychotic, vengeful and hateful. Being imprisoned in darkness for two millennia will do that to someone.
* MightyGlacier: He's quite strong but lacks the super speed that most vampires have and which gives them the advantage in a fight, making him less formidable than most opponents in a straight fight.
* MindManipulation: One of his specialties. He appears to people as visions of their loved ones to manipulate them into bringing about his return.
* MindRape: With Shane, Bonnie, and [[spoiler: ''Klaus'']] as his favorite victims.
* MonsterProgenitor: [[spoiler: Technically, Silas is the progenitor of the Salvatore Doppelgängers, which are considered to be a supernatural species.]]
* MonsterSobStory: When you actually look back at the legend of Silas, the word "tragedy" is an understatement.
* MoreThanMindControl: Silas is able to compel, control or influence many different people at the same time, including vampires and possibly even the Originals.
* MrFanservice: For a 2,000 year old immortal, Silas is very hot. [[spoiler: That is to be expected since he is the spitting physical image of Stefan.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: Not ending up with Amara and finding true peace and eternity with her.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Hearing or saying the name ''Silas'' is enough to scare the crap out of everyone and invoke fear in everyone, including the powerful Original vampires, such as Klaus and Kol.
* NeckSnap: [[spoiler: Does this to Jeremy Gilbert after drinking all of his blood. And since Jeremy was a Hunter, a supernatural being, his ring can't bring him back from the dead anymore.]]
** Silas also does this to Matt in 5.02, although Matt comes back to life because he is wearing the Gilbert Ring.
* NervesOfSteel: For the majority of the time, Silas is very cold and manipulative in how he goes about things.
* NighInvulnerability: Silas, as a powerful immortal, is completely invulnerable to anything and everything -- '''NO WEAPON''' can harm or kill him. His only true weakness is the cure for immortality, [[spoiler: but that's now gone since Katherine ingested it and became human]].
* NotAfraidToDie: Silas seems to cheerlead his death instead of wanting to take over the world as the world's most powerful first immortal being.
* NotQuiteDead: Silas didn't die since he is an immortal being. Instead, Silas was buried alive in darkness, which caused him to starve and fossilize for over two thousand years.
* ObviouslyEvil: Just look at Silas, and you can tell that he is bad news and doesn't have noble intentions.
* OfficialCouple: With Amara. Their romance has existed for over 2,000 years.
* OhCrap: Anyone who even ''hears'' his name has this reaction. Caroline says it best when she and Klaus realize that [[spoiler: the pain Klaus has been feeling from the white oak stake lodged in his back -- hell, even the stake -- has been nothing but a hallucination]]:
--> "If he can do this to you of all people, what can he do to the rest of us?"
* TheOlderImmortal: The Originals were thought to be the oldest vampires in the series, but Silas is actually the oldest vampire in the series at over two thousand years old.
* OlderThanFeudalism: Silas is over '''two thousand years old''' and was born either before or after 1st century B.C.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Although Silas is over 2,000 years old in actual age, Silas has the appearance of someone in their early 20's. This is due to being an immortal being and therefore, having the ability to not age.
* OneTrueLove: [[spoiler: For Amara.]]
* OnlyOneName: Silas doesn't seem to have a last name.
* OppositesAttract: With Amara. While Silas was a powerful, wealthy warlock, Amara was a regular and poor human.
* PhysicalGod: Silas was the world's first immortal being, meaning that he was completely indestructible and unkillable.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Qetsiyah, who like him was a witch. They were best friends, and Qetsiyah loved Silas, but he didn't love her back.
* PowerAtAPrice: Silas granted himself the wish of being an immortal by casting the very first immortality spell on himself. Unfortunately, it had consequences, since Silas, a warlock who is a servant of nature, defied nature. As a result, shadow selves or a doppelgänger line of Silas ([[spoiler: i.e. Stefan]]) was created in order to achieve balance in nature. It is not known [[spoiler: if Stefan could be used as a weakness against Silas yet, although it is appearing that way as Qetsiyah used Silas' doppelgänger, Stefan, to suppress Silas psychic and mental powers. Unfortunately, as a result of Qetsiyah's binding spell to suppress Silas' powers, Stefan also lost his memory.]]
* TheProudElite
* PsychicPowers: Silas is a very powerful psychic and he can read the minds and thoughts of others without difficulty. He can also torture others by messing with their minds and making others see whatever he wants them to.
* PsychoticLoveTriangle: ''And how!'' Both Qetsiyah and Amara were passionately in love with Silas, although Qetsiyah's love for Silas is more of an obsession and in the IfICantHaveYou, LoveHungry, LoveMakesYouCrazy, MurderTheHypotenuse levels. And it seems as though his doppelgänger Stefan has followed the same path as him in regards to attracting obsessive psychotic women (such as Katherine and Rebekah for example).
* PsychoticSmirk: One of Silas' trademarks.
* [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld Really Two Thousand Years Old]]: He is officially the oldest character in the entire series.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler: Silas gives a pretty good one to Damon in the season five premiere.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: With Amara. Their love is literally reincarnated almost every century according to Qetsiyah since doppelgängers of Silas and Amara have been finding each other and falling in love over the centuries.
* TheResenter: Silas strongly hates Qetsiyah and has a deep seated hatred towards her, which is understandable considering that Qetsiyah brutally killed his true love out of spite ad jealousy ''and'' ended up entombing him in darkness for over two millennia, while being left to starve and desiccate.
* TheReveal: Stefan is revealed to be Silas' [[{{Doppelganger}} doppelgänger]], made to be a version of Silas who could die, since Silas cheated death by becoming immortal. Silas has not yet stated if Stefan could be a weakness to him. Not much is known about Silas' bloodline, family and background, but it is assumed that Silas' history will be revealed in season five.
* RevengeBeforeReason: More than anything, Silas is driven by revenge and wants to avenge the death of his true love Amara, by destroying Qetsiyah, taking the cure for immortality, destroying the barrier which separates the metaphysical world (the place where dead human souls go after they die aka The Veil) and The Other Side (which is a supernatural purgatory meant for supernatural beings to go to after they die), taking the cure for immortality, dying a mortal death and [[TogetherInDeath crossing over to the metaphysical plane to be with his one true love, Amara, in eternal death]].
* RuleOfThree: Silas' plan to bring back the dead, [[spoiler: i.e, every single supernatural creature on The Other Side]], involves an Expression Triangle that can only be completed by three mass murders. As of 4x17, all three have been completed: [[spoiler: the explosion that took out the Mystic Falls Council in 4x01, when Klaus is tricked into massacring twelve hybrids in 4x12, and Caroline killing the coven of witches in 4x17.]]
* [[RunawayBride Runaway Groom]]: [[spoiler: Qetsiyah reveals that Silas abandoned her on their wedding night. To add insult to injury, Silas had taken the immortality elixir with Amara at the same time he and Qetsiyah would have been married.]]
* SadisticChoice: To either live forever entombed, or take the cure for his immortality and eventually die of hunger/thirst. Worse, even if he'd taken the cure, [[spoiler: his lover was a mortal. As a witch, his soul would go to the Other Side, the purgatory for supernaturals that Qetsiyah created just so that even in death, he would be with her instead of the woman he really loved, Amara.]]
* SealedBadassInACan: Silas was the very first immortal being in the world who ended up being entombed by Qetsiyah as revenge.
* SealedEvilInACan: Silas is sealed in a tomb that can only be opened by a Bennett witch hopped up on a special kind of dark magic (called Expression) and using a spell that only appears when one of The Five (which are a group of supernatural vampire hunters that are so rare that only one is born/created ''every century'') completes his Hunter's Mark or tattoo by killing enough vampires. Also, the tomb is on a remote, desolate and booby-trapped island somewhere near Nova Scotia, Canada, and it's inhabited by witches who are tasked with getting rid of any vampire that comes looking for the cure for immortality.
* ShadowArchetype: Silas is this to his doppelgänger, Stefan. Silas is the EvilCounterpart to Stefan's GoodCounterpart.
* SharpDressedMan
* ShipperOnDeck: He seems to be a Klaroline and Stelena shipper, oddly enough.
* ShroudedInMyth: The reason why so few people outside of his disciples and witches have heard of him. The ones who have dismiss him as some sort of supernatural bogeyman.
* SinisterSilhouettes: In season four, when he was in his monstrous form, Silas was always a shadow. This could have been a way to uphold the mystery of Silas' true form and identity.
* SmugSmiler
* SmugSuper
* TheSociopath
* SoftSpokenSadist: In his true form.
* StarcrossedLovers: With his true love, [[spoiler: Amara.]]
* StartOfDarkness: After being entombed for over two thousand years, one can expect someone like Silas to become a vengeful villain.
* TheStrategist
* StrongerWithAge: Silas is the oldest character and is also, by far, the most powerful supernatural being in the series universe. His power strongly exceeds that of The Originals (such as Mikael, Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah for example) as well as any other vampire, werewolf, witch or any supernatural being existent in the series.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: [[spoiler: To Stefan, due to the fact that Stefan is Silas' doppelganger. Silas is also a distant ancestor of the Salvatore family.]]
* SuperpowerLottery: Due to being a powerful psychic and an immortal, Silas possesses various abilities and powers. His most notable abilities are his PsychicPowers.

* TakenForGranite: [[spoiler: Courtesy of Bonnie in the penultimate episode of season four, but it doesn't last long -- he's back out again in the finale.]]
* TogetherInDeath: Silas wants to die so that he can be with his one true love Amara forever.
* TookALevelInBadass: Silas went from being an extremely powerful warlock to being the world's very first immortal being.
* TragicVillain[=/=]TragicMonster[=/=]TraumaCongaLine: Silas may be the BigBad, but when you learn about his past, it's nothing but tragedy.
* TraumaCongaLine: Silas life story is nothing but endless misery and tragedy. It is therefore, not surprising that Silas turned out completely psychotic, evil and vengeful.
* TheTrickster
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: With Stefan. [[spoiler: This is to e expected considering that Stefan is the doppelganger of Silas and a very ancient and distant descendent of Silas.]]
* TheUnfettered: Silas has zero morals and conscience and is ''extremely'' ruthless -- for all his talk of just wanting to die and be with his lover, he seems to enjoy mentally, emotionally and physically torturing people. Even Klaus and Katherine, previously the most ruthless characters around, [[EvenEvilHasStandards have more standards than this guy.]]
* TheUnseen: So far, his true face hasn't been revealed. [[spoiler: When he's released, he morphs into Professor Shane to further manipulate Bonnie, then into Caroline to torment Klaus, then later into Jeremy, Stefan, Damon (off-screen), Rebekah, Klaus, Matt, Liz, and even Alaric to mess with various characters. We get a glimpse of his face at the end of "Pictures of You", where it's apparent that Qetsiyah left him disfigured, but in "The Walking Dead", he reveals to Bonnie this was just another trick.]]
** [[spoiler: His true form is finally revealed in the finale. It turns out Stefan is Silas' doppelgänger.]]
* VillainousValour: Silas NEVER gives up and is highly determined.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: [[spoiler: In season five, Silas will be posing as his doppelgänger Stefan, TheHero.]]
* VisionaryVillain: Silas always has a clear goal in sight and he will do anything and everything, including causing others significant harm, in order to achieve it.
* WeakButSkilled: While he is very strong and fast, he is considerably less so than most other vampires on the series to the point that Jeremy was able to get the upper hand in a fight quite easily. Silas prefers to use his Telepathic powers and his brilliant tactical mind to get what he wants.
* WhatMeasureIsANonSuper
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Silas wanted to, before Qetsiyah murdered his true love. Now he wants to die so he can be with her forever.

* WitchSpecies: Before Silas became an immortal, he was an extremely powerful warlock.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Silas may be the most powerful immortal being in the world, but man, does he use his power to do sadistic and horrible things.
* TheWorfEffect: Ooh, ''boy''...
** See CurbStompBattle above.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: One possible interpretation of his actions. He's been waiting for two thousand years just to be with his one true love. And if the world has to end to bring them together, so be it.
* XanatosGambit: No matter how many people try to defeat him or how many plans people may come up with to try to cross him or defeat him, Silas ALWAYS ends up winning. He is literally unable to be defeated.
* XanatosSpeedChess: If something doesn't work out the way he wants it to, he'll always be ready with another plan.
* YouAreWorthHell: Silas resisted the cure for immortality and stayed buried for over 2,000 years due to not wanting to die, become mortal and be with Qetsiyah on The Other Side. He did this all out of love for Amara and his strong desire to be freed, die and find peace with her in the afterlife once he had destroyed the Other Side.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler: Does this to Professor Shane once he's risen. He drains him of his blood, takes on his form, and leaves him to die on the island.]]
* YourCheatingHeart: Silas was engaged to be married to Qetsiyah, however, Silas was in love with Amara and was having a secret relationship with her behind Qetsiyah's back.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Amara]]

!!Amara (portrayed by [[spoiler: Nina Dobrev]])

Amara (Ancient Greek: Ἀμάρα), was the world's first immortal woman. Amara was born some time during 1st Century B.C. She was the former handmaiden of Qetsiyah, and is the true love of Qetsiyah's fiancee, and the world's first immortal being, Silas. She was the world's very first immortal woman and is the progenitor of a line of doppelgängers that have come to be known as the Petrova doppelgängers. Her known doppelgängers are Tatia, Katerina and Elena. Amara desired immortality and wanted to live forever with Silas. So, she betrayed Qetsiyah and consumed the immortality elixir along with Silas. However, this became a curse when Qetisyah dessicated her, and forced her to be the anchor to the Other Side. She was one of the three oldest characters in the series; along with Silas and Qetsiyah. Amara's also the oldest known member of what would become the Petrova family. Amara was a very distant ancestor of the Petrova Family, and the progenitor of the Petrova Doppelgänger bloodline.
----
* [[ActingForTwo Acting For Three]]: [[spoiler: Nina Dobrev is portraying Amara, the original Petrova, as well as her doppelgangers: Elena, the protagonist and Katherine, one of the major characters.]]
* {{Adorkable}}: Amara is rather adorable and naive in her mannerisms and ways.
* AllForNothing: Amara desired immortality and to be an immortal being all out of love and so she could spend an eternity with Silas. Sadly, her immortal life turned out to be nothing but tragedy and suffering. Instead of living an eternal happily ever after with her soulmate as she originally wanted and intended, Amara ended up having her true love Silas believe that she was dead due to Qetsiyah telling Silas that he had killed her. And then Silas ended up entombed in darkness and starved for centuries and centuries. Not only did Qetsiyah fake Amara's death to Silas, but Qetsiyah ended up desiccating and entombing Amara and using her as the physical anchor for the Other Side, a purgatory for supernatural beings who have died to go to once they die. Qetsiyah created this supernatural purgatory as a way for Silas' soul to be trapped with her for all time and separated from Amara shall he take the cure and die a mortal death. As a result of being the anchor to the Other Side, Amara ended up experiencing very single supernatural death for over two millennia, while being trapped in her own body and starving and desiccating. After Amara is finally found by Silas and is reawakened after 2,000 years, Amara becomes mortal again after drinking the cure from Silas' blood. She desires death more than anything else and does everything she can to kill herself due to her suffering. Amara confesses to Silas that she strongly loves him and that she will always love him but that her desire to die and end her suffering is just as strong and powerful as her love for Silas. Amara begs Silas to kill her himself, but Silas struggles with doing so. Silas ends up being killed by his doppelgänger Stefan win he is stabbed with a knife. He then crosses over to the Other Side through Amara. After Silas dies, Qetsiyah ends up transferring the anchor from Amara to Bonnie. Amara, realizing that she has nothing to live for with Silas dead and having suffered for endless centuries, takes her own life after taking the same knife that killed Silas and stabbing herself. Before she had killed herself, Amara had told Silas that their eternity together would start with her death. Sadly for Amara, this did not happen as Silas is trapped on the Other Side as a ghost with Qetsiyah and Amara ended up finding true peace in the afterlife. To make matters worse, Qetsiyah ends up killing herself so that she could be with Silas. This means that Qetsiyah ended up getting her revenge, having Silas and Amara separated from each other for all time. Not only did Amara never get to spend an eternity with her soulmate Silas as an immortal being but she didn't even get to find true eternal peace with Silas in death either and ended up suffering over 2,000 years as the anchor to the OS, all because her sin was falling in love with Silas. ''Poor Amara.''
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: At first. Amara came off as mysterious in the flashbacks.
* AmbiguousDisorder: Subverted. When Amara was first discovered to be alive, she was acting rather crazy, irrational and bizarre. It was first thought that Amara was mentally ill or had schizophrenia but it turns out the reason for her crazy behaviour is because she can communicate with dead supernatural beings due to being the physical anchor for The Other Side.
* AncientGreece: Where Amara is originally from.
* AngelicBeauty: According to Silas. When Silas looks at her, he compares her beauty to that of an angel.
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler: Amara has been trapped inside of her body for over 2,000 years due to being the physical anchor for The Other Side. It seems as though Amara has suffered a similar tragic fate as her true love Silas.]]
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: With Silas in 5.07. Amara tells Silas that she has loved him and will always love him but that she couldn't go on living anymore due to suffering as the anchor to The Other Side for over 2,000 years. As a result of her suffering, she tries to get Silas to kill her himself so that her pain and suffering can finally end.
* ArchEnemy: Qetsiyah. Considering that Qetsiyah entombed Amara, made her the anchor to the Other Side, made her suffer for over 2,000 years by experiencing every single supernatural death and managing to keep her and Silas apart for all eternity.
* AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: It has been said that Amara has been on the metaphysical plane for over 2,000+ years, a place where human souls go to after they die. The Other Side, which is a purgatory designed for supernatural beings (such as witches, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, etc) go to aftet they die, was created by Qetsiyah as a way for Silas to not be reunited in death with Amara shall Silas take the cure and die a mortal death.
** [[spoiler: Amara finally dies after stabbing herself. She crosses over to the metaphysical plane. Sadly, Amara ends up alone and separated from her soulmate (Silas) for eternity, as Silas dies and crosses over to The Other Side, [[StarcrossedLovers separating the "two fates" for eternity]] like Qetsiyah had wished and planned for over two millennia.]]
* AxeCrazy: [[spoiler: In 5.06, Amara is shown to be highly unstable and crazy but this is understandable considering that Qetsiyah used Amara as the anchor for the Other Side because she needed something that was eternal and immortal (meaning Amara). This means that Amara has been trapped inside of her own body ''for over 2,000 years''. That would make anyone go completely insane and crazy.]]
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: It was revealed that Qetsiyah had not killed Amara but instead, desiccated and entombed her and used her as an anchor to bind The Other Side. Amara has awaken and has consumed the cure for immortality, which was in Silas' blood, and she is now a mortal human desiring to die.]]
* BarrierMaiden: Amara was the physical anchor to the Other Side.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Amara was very beautiful and it could be assumed that she was also a good-hearted and innocent woman.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Even though Amara was entombed and desisting for over 2,000 years, Amara still looked beautiful regardless.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: Amara's relationship with Silas. Although Silas was engaged to be married to Qetsiyah, Silas true love and destiny was with Amara.
* BettyAndVeronica: The love triangle between herself, Silas and Qetsiyah. Amara was the Betty to Qetsiyah's Veronica for Silas' Archie.
* BodyguardCrush: Amara was a poor girl who was a handmaiden and she was deeply in love with a higher status warlock, Silas.
* BoyMeetsGirl: Amara meets Silas and instantly falls in love with him, to the point where she desires to spend eternity with him.
* BreakTheCutie: ''Oh dear.'' Poor Amara managed to suffer for 2,000 years by being the physical anchor for The Other Side, therefore experiencing and feeling every single supernatural death for two millennia.
* BrokenBird: Considering all of the tragedy and suffering that Amara has been through, she definitely qualifies as this.
* BroughtDownToNormal: Qetsiyah [[spoiler: first cured her of immortality]] before killing her. Only according to Qestiyah. This turned out to be not true however. Instead, Amara was an immortal for over 2,000 years and used to bind the spell in creation g the Other Side by Qetsiyah. Amara was reawakened by Silas after two millennia and took the cure for immortality after drinking Silas' blood.
* BrownEyes: One of Amara's physical defining features. This same physical quality is found in all of the Petrova doppelgängers such as Tatia, Katherine and Elena.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Amara was a little zany and out there. This is understandable considering she's been seeing dead supernatural beings for the lat 2,000 years.
* CruelMercy: As if forcefully curing Amara of her immortality wasn't enough, Qetsiyah brutally murdered her by slitting her throat and cutting her heart out. On top of it, Qetsiyah entombed Amara's true love, Silas, in darkness and then created The Other Side as a way to prevent Amara from ever being reunited with Silas in death should Silas take the cure and die of a mortal death. Turns out none of this was the truth and was only according to the legend of Silas. Amara's fate was actually much worse. Qetsiyah desiccated Amara, entombed her and than used her as the physical anchor for her spell to bind The Other Side. Therefore, Amara was not only starving and desiccating as an immortal being, but she was also experiencing every single supernatural death for ''over 2,000 years''. That is much, much, ''much'' worse than actual death. Qetsiyah killing Amara would be tame in comparison to the actual fate Amara ended up suffering for centuries. Amara's 2,000 year old plus fate also makes Silas' 2,000 year old plus fate look like Disneyland by comparison.
* CuteAndPsycho: Understandable considering she was trapped in her own body and communicating with dead supernatural beings for over two millennia.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Mostly because she hears and sees dead supernatural beings, it causes Amara to become clumsy due to being tormented.
* TheCutie: Amara is actually quite adorable and loveable in her ways. She is very naive by nature.
* DamselInDistress[=/=]DistressedDamsel: Considering that Amara was entombed and desiccating an was the physical anchor for The Other Side for over 2,000 years, Amara definitely qualifies as this.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Considering that Amara has lived nothing but misery as being the anchor to the Other Side and experiencing every single supernatural death for over two thousand years, Amara could definitely qualify as having this.
* DeathByWomanScorned: Amara was murdered by Qetsiyah out of jealousy and anger. [[spoiler: Turns out this was just the legend of Silas and Qetsiyah did not kill Amara but rather [[FateWorseThanDeath she used Amara as the physical anchor for the Other Side, making Amara experience every single supernatural death for over 2,000 years.]]]]
* DeathIsDramatic: The way Qetsiyah described how she killed Amara was brutal. After Qetsiyah cured Amara of her immortality, she slit Amara's throat and cut out her heart. When Silas discovered Amara's brutal murder, he was extremely devastated.
* DeathSeeker: [[spoiler: Since Amara has been awaken and taken the cure for immortality, Amara is desperate to die after being trapped in her own body for over 2,000 years.]]
* TheDeterminator: Amara did everything in order to die and be at peace.
* [[DidNotGetTheGirl Did Not Get The Guy]]: Amara wanted to die and spend eternity with Silas together in death. Unfortunately, this did not happen for Amara as when Amara and Silas both died, Amara crossed over to the afterlife to find true peace as a mortal human and Silas crossed over to the Other Side as a warlock. To make matters worse, Qetsiyah had transferred the anchor from Amara to Bonnie and Qetsiyah killed herself to be with Silas on the Other Side. This means that Amara is separated for all time and for all eternity from Silas and did not find true eternal peace in death with her soulmate after 2,000 years of endless suffering. In other words, Qetsiyah "won".
* DisposableWoman: It was assumed that Amara was dead or murdered according to the original legend of Silas. However, this turned out to not be true and that she was in fact used as the physical anchor for the Other Side by Qetsiyah. And even when Amara was found and reawakened 2,000 years later, Amara wanted to die and eventually killed herself by stabbing herself with a knife.
* DistressBall: Amara's entire 2,000 years of immortal life have been nothing but distress.
* DoomedByCanon: From the legend of Silas, it is clear that Amara's fate is a tragic one, even if the legend happened to not be true.
* {{Doppelganger}}: [[spoiler: Technically, Tatia, Katherine and Elena are all doppelgangers of Amara. Amara is the progenitor or originator of the Petrova doppelgängers.Because of this, Amara is known as the Original Petrova, despite Amara not having a last name.]]
* DrivenToMadness: Being the anchor and experiencing every single supernatural death for 2 millennia would drive anyone absolutely crazy.
* DrivenToSuicide: Amara's endless suffering as the physical anchor to the Other Side has made Amara yearn for death more than anything else. [[spoiler: And in 5.07, Amara finally ends her 2,000 year suffering by stabbing herself and killing herself.]]
* DysfunctionJunction: Amara suffered a tragic life and fate due to a DarkAndTroubledPast, all in the name of falling in love with Silas.
* EternalLove: Amara wanted to live for eternity with her true love Silas, so she consumed the immortality elixir. Sadly, Amara was brutally murdered when Qetsiyah discovered that Silas had given the gift of immortality to Amara instead of her. [[spoiler: Turns out that Qetsiyah lied and faked Amara's death and used Amara as the anchor for the Other Side.]]
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Amara embraced death and wanted to end her immortal suffering.
* FateDrivesUsTogether: The relationship between her and her true love Silas is built on the concept of destiny and fate. This concept also extends to her and Silas' doppelgänger bloodlines.
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: It is revealed in 5.06 that Amara has been alive this whole time and that Qetsiyah had lied to Silas and faked her death. Qetsiyah instead used Amara as an anchor for the spell in creating the Other Side. As a result, Amara has been suffering due to being trapped in her own body for over 2,000 years, which has clearly caused much trauma psychologically, emotionally and mentally for Amara. It seems as though Amara has suffered a similar tragic fate, a fate worse than actual death, as her true love Silas has, who was entombed in darkness for two millennia, starving and desiccating.]]
** [[spoiler: At the ending of 5.07, as it turns out, she had had it ''much'' worse than Silas. Because she was the anchor to the Other Side, she experienced every single supernatural death. For ''2,000 years''. All the while starving and desiccating. It's little wonder why she went insane.]]
* FirstOfItsKind: [[spoiler: Amara is the first female immortal in the world.]]
* {{Foil}}: To Qetsiyah. Amara was seen to be more gentle, kind, naive and idealistic by nature while Qetsiyah was more aggressive, confident, and passionate.
* ForbiddenFruit: For Silas. Silas was engaged to be married to Qetsiyah and Amara was Qetsiyah's personal handmaiden. Hence, why Silas and Amara's love for each other was strongly forbidden.
* GodCouple: With Silas. She and Silas were the world's very first immortal beings. Amara was the world's first immortal woman and Silas was the world's first immortal man.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: Like Silas, when Amara consumed the immortality elixir and made herself truly immortal, therefore, unkillable, nature created a loophole by creating a doppelgänger bloodline which would be passed down to her descendants. Tatia, Katherine and Elena are all doppelgängers of Amara due to the doppelgänger "gene" being passed down Amara's family bloodline.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: See SupernaturalIsPurple.
* TheGwenStacy: For Silas. She was murdered before Silas could do anything to stop Qetsiyah.
* HairDecorations: Amara wore a small ribbon in her hair with braids.
* HelloNurse: Amara was very beautiful. See MsFanservice.
* HereditaryCurse: [[spoiler: Like Silas, as a result of Amara consuming the immortality elixir, nature created a doppelganger bloodline for Amara which would be passed down the Petrova bloodline.]]
* TheIdealist: In regards to her love for Silas. It was obvious that Amara was a true and hopeless romantic at heart as she desired immortality so that she could send an eternity with her one true love (Silas).
* [[IdenticalGrandson Identical Granddaughter]]: [[spoiler: Tatia, Katherine and Elena are physically identical to Amara. This is because Amara is very distant ancestor to Tatia, Katherine and Elena.]]
* {{Immortality}}: Amara became a true immortal alongside Silas and became the world's very first immortal woman.
** Amara was '''[[CompleteImmortality Type I]]''', '''[[TheAgeless Type II]]''', '''[[ResurrectiveImmortality Type IV]]''', '''[[TheUndead Type V]]''', ''and'' '''[[LifeDrinker Type X]]''' (before she was cured of immortality and killed by Qetsiyah).
* ImmortalityHurts: Amara described her immortal life as a "living hell" due to being the anchor to the Other Side instead of spending it with Silas.
* ImmortalitySeeker: Amara sought immortality out of her desire to spend an eternity and live forever with her soulmate Silas.
* TheIngenue: Amara had a purity and naivety about her.
* InterClassRomance: With Silas. While Amara was poor, Silas seemed to be on the wealthier side.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Silas before [[spoiler: they both became immortal.]] Silas was a warlock and Amara was a human.
* IJustWantToBeFree: Considering that Amara was entombed, desiccating and starving and was the physical anchor for the Other Side and therefore communicating with dead supernatural beings, it is understandable that she just wanted to be free from her eternal suffering and wanted to die in order to find true peace in the afterlife. Fortunately for Amara, she ended up getting her wish when she died and crossed over to the afterlife. However, she ended up finding peace in the afterlife without her true love, Silas.
* KillTheCutie: [[spoiler: Qetsiyah killed Amara out of pure rage and jealousy. Subverted as it turns out that Qetsiyah didn't kill her and actually did something much worse than actual death to Amara: making her the physical anchor for the Other Side. In the end, Amara actually ended up killing herself and committing suicide all so her suffering could finally come to an end.]]
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal: Amara dies after she stabs herself. She crosses over to the metaphysical plane to find peace but sadly and tragically, does not end up with her true love Silas, as he has died and crossed over to The Other Side and is stuck with Qetsiyah for eternity.]]
* LadyAndKnight: Amara was the Lady to Silas' Knight.
* LastGirlWins: Amara was chosen over Qetsiyah by Silas.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Amara is the Light Feminine to Qetsiyah's Dark Feminine.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Was this for Silas.
* LivingMacGuffin: Amara was the anchor for the Other Side.
* LongHairIsFeminine
* TheLostLenore: For Silas. Silas spend over 2,000 years believing that Amara was dead.
* LoveAtFirstSight[=/=]LoveBeforeFirstSight: With Silas.
* LoveHurts: In regards to Silas. Almara wanted to spend eternity with Silas, her true love, but instead, she got over 2,000 years of suffering as being the anchor to the Other Side.
* LoveTriangle: Involved in the most tragic one of the series (between herself/Silas/Qetsiyah).
* MacGuffinGirl: The mystical anchor to the Other Side was discovered to be a person, with the person being Amara.
* MagicalGirlfriend: For Silas. It wasn't as if Silas had any problem with attracting members of the opposite sex. Hell, Silas was engaged to be married to Qetsiyah. However, Amara is Silas' true love and soulmate.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: For Silas. Although Silas was engaged to Qetsiyah, it was clear that Amara was Silas' OneTrueLove.
* MeaningfulName: The name Amara is a feminine name of Greek origin which means "eternally beautiful". [[spoiler: Ironically, Amara was an immortal before she was brutally and tragically murdered.]]
* TheMentallyDisturbed: Due to being the anchor to the Other Side, Amara ended up suffering 2,000 years of chaos, which lead to her becoming mentally and psychologically unstable.
* MessyHair: Along with RapunzelHair. Could be because she was locked up for centuries and centuries without having access to a hair brush or comb.
* TheMistress: For Silas. While Silas was engaged to be married, Amara was his secret lover.
* MonsterProgenitor[=/=]MonsterLord: [[spoiler: Amara is the progenitor or originator of the Petrova {{Doppelganger}} bloodline, which spawned Tatia, Katherine, and Elena.]]
* MoralityPet: For Silas.
* MsFanservice: Amara is very beautiful.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Qetsiyah brutally murdered Amara out of jealousy because Silas was madly in love with her and not Qetsiyah.
* MysteriousWaif: Amara came off as mysterious in the flashbacks. Even when she is reawakened in the present time 2000 years later, there is still an air or aura of mystery about her.
* MysticalWaif: Amara was used as the mystical anchor to the Other Side in which Qetsiyah had binder her to the spell. This was because Amara was immortal and indestructible and Qetsiyah needed an anchor that was eternal and everlasting, hence why Qetsiyah used Amara as the anchor.
* NaiveEverygirl: Amara was highly naive and innocent. She had a childlike quality about her and seemed to be a true romantic at heart since she desired to spend eternity as an immortal with Silas.
* NiceGirl: Amara is a good-hearted, gentle and kind soul.
* NotAfraidToDie: Amara desired death above all else due to suffering for over 2,000 years.
* NotQuiteDead: Amara wasn't truly dead as the legend of Silas suggested. In fact, Amara was desiccated, entombed and entrapped in her own body for 2,000 years and was also used as the anchor for the Other Side.
* OfficialCouple: With Silas. Their romance is over 2,000+ years old.
* TheOjou: Amara was seen to be very delicate, proper and ladylike. See ProperLady.

* OnlyOneName: She didn't have a known last name like Silas.
* TheOphelia: Amara ended up suffering from a mental and psychological breakdown due to being the anchor to the Other Side and hearing dead supernatural beings for over 2,000 years.
* OppositesAttract: Silas was a powerful and wealthy warlock while Amara was a poor human.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Amara's death is the whole motivation behind Silas' story and him committing the actions he has in both season four and five.
* PluckyGirl[=/=]ThePollyanna: From what has been seen of her, Amara seemed to be rather idealistic and optimistic by nature.
* PosthumousCharacter
* PowerAtAPrice: Although Amara became an immortal, there were a few consequences and bad circumstances that happened. First, because Amara became truly immortal and therefore, un-killable, nature needed a loophole in order to maintain the balance, so, nature created a doppelgänger bloodline for Amara, which ended up being passed down to her family, relatives and descendants (and which spawned Tatia, Katerina and Elena).
* ThePowerOfLove: Because of Amara's powerful and strong love for Silas, Amara desired immortality and ended up defying nature by consuming the immortality elixir and becoming truly immortal.
* ProperLady: See TheOjou.
* PsychoticLoveTriangle: ''And how!'' Both Amara and Qetsiyah were deeply and passionately in love with Silas, although Qetsiyah's love for Silas was more to the IfICantHaveYou, MurderTheHypotenuse, and {{Yandere}} levels.
* PurityPersonified: See TheIngenue, The Pollyanna, and NaiveEverygirl.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Amara wore a purple or fuchsia dress and was also the very first immortal woman in the world.
* RapunzelHair: Amara's hair is much longer than Katherine and Elena's hair.
* [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld Really Two Thousand Years Old]]: Amara was over 2,000 years old and was therefore, the oldest female character in the series universe (along with Qetsiyah).
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: It was revealed that Amara was Silas' true beloved and that she is the original Petrova.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: With Silas. Her doppelgänger bloodline and Silas' doppelgänger bloodline are literally recreated every century (according to Qetsiyah) and are destined to meet and fall in love with each other, emulating Amara and Silas' love for each other.
* SealedGoodInACan: Was entombed and trapped in her own body for two millennia and was the anchor to the Other Side. The opposite of Silas, who was SealedEvilInACan and was entombed in darkness while starving for over two millennia.
* SecondLove: For Silas. It could be assumed that Qetsiyah was Silas' FirstLove.
* ShrinkingViolet: Amara seemed to be rather shy, docile and introverted by nature.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: In regards to her true love, Silas.
* StarcrossedLovers: With Silas ''OH SO MUCH.'' In fact, Silas and Amara should be the TropeCodifier. They could give ''RomeoAndJuliet'' a serious run for their money.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With Elena and Katherine. Amara is the physical spitting image of both; this is because she is a very distant ancestor to both of them.
* SupernaturalIsPurple: Wore a purple or fuchsia coloured dress.
* SuperpowerLottery: As an immortal, Amara possessed various abilities.
** {{Immortality}}: Amara was TheAgeless (Type II), CompleteImmortality (Type I), ResurrectiveImmortality (Type IV), TheUndead (Type V) and a LifeDrinker (Type X). It is the act of not aging, or succumbing to any human illnesses. Unlike all other known immortals, including The Original Vampires, Immortals are truly and unconditionally immortal.
** SuperToughness[=/=]MadeOfIron: Amara and all immortals can take a great amount of damage.
** HealingFactor: Amara and all immortals can snap their finger bones back into place after being broken, and have been seen to fully recover from gunshots, stab wounds, snapped necks, and torso impalement.
** SuperStrength: Amara and other immortals are stronger than most humans, with strength equaling hunters of The Brotherhood of the Five. However, they are nowhere near as strong as Vampires, as probably even a newly turned Vampire can best an Immortal in combat, due to the immense difference in physical prowess.
** {{Telepathy}}: Amara has the ability to read the thoughts and memories of another person.
** MasterOfIllusion: Amara and other immortals have the power to create powerful illusions. They are able to use these illusions on anyone they desire no matter how powerful. The ability to cause illusions also allows a form of shapeshifting, since they can cause beings to believe that they are seeing the Immortal in the form of another. They can be used on multiple people in multiple locations simultaneously. They can keep themselves at a physically safe distance while casting illusions. The illusions have been proven sufficient against many vampires capable of brute force.
** VoiceChangeling: Amara and other immortals are able to change their voice to whatever thy want.
** '''Pain Infliction:''' Amara and other immortals are able to inflict illusional pain onto others.
** MindManipulation: Amara and other immortals have the ability to control minds, plague people's dreams, and erase humans and other supernatural being's memories, even without eye contact, even while they are on vervain.
** MadeOfIron[=/=]ImmuneToBullets: Amara and other immortals are immune to all known weaknesses of the vampires. They're immune to wood, sunlight, vervain, and werewolf bites. It is unknown if decapitation or Heart Extraction would have had any affect on them, although it is highly unlikely as their bodies are completely indestructible.
** SuperReflexes: Amara and other immortals possess superhuman agility, flexibility, and dexterity. They can move, jump, climb, and run incredibly fast without difficulty or exhaustion.
** SuperSenses: Amara and other immortals have extremely keen senses of hearing, sight and smell that far exceed those of humans.
** PhotographicMemory: Amara and other immortals are said to possess perfect recall and to be unable to forget. Their minds are often called "vaults" in which they store all information permanently.
* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: Considering that Amara is from Ancient Greece and most likely spoke Ancient Greek, Amara's fluent English is very good.
* TogetherInDeath: Subverted and averted. Although Amara couldn't spend an eternity as an immortal being due to the tragedy, Amara still desired to be with Silas forever and find peace with him in true death. Unfortunately, this did not happen, as Amara was a mortal human and Silas was a warlock and after they both died, Amara crossed over to the metaphysical plane and Silas crossed over to The Other Side, meaning that Amara is tragically separated from her soulmate for all eternity. ''How RomeoAndJuliet.''
-->'''Amara to a dead Silas in 5.07:''' "Our eternity starts now."
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth
* TraumaCongaLine: Amara has been through so much pain, suffering and tragedy, that it is possible that she shares the title of ''"Most Tragic Character"'' in the series universe along with Silas.
* TroubledButCute: Amara is very beautiful but she has a severely troubled past and has suffered a lot of the many centuries all in the name of true love.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: With Katherine and Elena. Tatia, Katherine and Elena are the physical spitting image of Amara. Amara is the originator or the progenitor of the Petrova doppelgänger bloodline and Tatia, Katherine and Elena are all doppelgängers of her. Amara is also a very ancient or distant ancestor to Tatia, Katherine and Elena.
* UnkemptBeauty: Considering that Amara had been desiccating and entombed for over two millennia, it's understandable why Amara would look unkempt and have messy hair.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Not Amara. However, Amara did desire to live forever and for an eternity as an immortal being only for the sole purpose of love and being with Silas for eternity. But when Amara was robbed of her happiness with Silas and was instead, used by Qetsiyah as an anchor for The Other Side for 2,000 years, Amara wanted to subvert her immortality, become a mortal again, die and find peace in the afterlife due to her endless suffering.
* WideEyedIdealist: Amara seemed to be a true romantic at heart as she has said that her sin was falling in love with Silas and wanting to spend an eternity with him.

[[folder: Nadia]]

!!Nadia [[spoiler: Petrova]] (portrayed by Olga Fonda)

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nadia-4_6407.jpg

Nadia Petrova ('''''Bulgarian:''' Надя Петрова'') is Katherine Pierce's long lost daughter and is also a vampire. She was born in Bulgaria in the year 1490, which makes her 521 years old. Nadia was given away after Katherine gave birth to her. After 500 years, Nadia has sought out Katherine and has revealed to her that she is her long lost daughter of 500 years. Nadia is also a member of The Travellers. Although most of her life is unknown, she revealed that she had spent the last 500 years searching for her mother, is seemingly not very well accustomed to modern American culture, and knows about the story of Silas, Amara and Qetsiyah. She also knows a great deal about Katerina's life in the past centuries, even though she had supposedly never met her before recently. As a human, Katerina implied that she had been traumatized by the loss of her daughter, and that finding out whether she was alive or not had been of great importance to her. Now that Silas and Amara are dead, and that The Original Family is in New Orleans, Nadia is currently the strongest vampire in Mystic Falls. She's also one of the oldest vampires in the series' universe, being over 500 years old. Nadia is an ancestor and member of the Petrova Family.

** Nadia is Type V: TheUndead
** Also, she is Type X: LifeDrinker
* [[InterspeciesRomance Interspecies Fling]]: With Matt. Nadia is a vampire and Matt is a human.
* ItsAllAboutMe: In the beginning, Nadia was rather selfish and ruthless. Turns out that all Nadia wanted to do and everything that she was doing, albeit through ruthless means, was to find her mother after 500 years of searching.
* {{Jerkass}} --> JerkassFacade --> JerkWithAHeartOfGold: At first, Nadia comes off as bitchy and aggressive but this begins to melt away when she finds her mother.

[[folder: Enzo]]

!!Lorenzo "Enzo" (portrayed by Michael Malarkey)

->''"You were the most important person in my life and you ruined me."''

A vampire who is part of Whitmore College's Augustine Society that killed Elena and Caroline's roommate. Revealed to be Enzo, a vampire held captive along with Damon decades ago by the Augustine society.

----

* AffablyEvil: If he likes you, Enzo can be friendly, loyal and downright pleasant. If you piss him off, he becomes FauxAffablyEvil and will still be charming while planning to rip your eyes out.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Enzo has a rather DarkAndTroubledPast, therefore, the reasons for him being "evil" are slightly justifiable. Although, from what has been shown so far, Enzo seems to be more psychologically damaged than downright evil.
* AxCrazy: Only mildly. Although it is understandable why Enzo is so psychologically unhinged due to the fact that he was brutally tortured for years by Augustine.
* {{Badass}}: Enzo is a vampire and therefore, capable of kicking ass.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: Downplayed, being tortured didn't make Enzo evil, as much as furious with Damon for leaving him behind.
* BerserkButton: Does not like it when people don't listen to him when he is speaking.
* BigBad: Possibly of Season 5. [[spoiler: Subverted. The actual BigBad of season five will be Markos, the possible leader of the The Travellers.]]
* BritishAccents: Enzo teases Caroline about her having a "thing" for guys with accents.
* BrutalHonesty: Won't hesitate to spill the harsh truth, especially towards Damon.
* DeadpanSnarker: Enzo can even outsnark Damon.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Averted, though rather justifiably.
* EtTuBrute: This is an interesting case where the antgaonist (Enzo) was betrayed by Damon, not the other way around. When they were held captive by the Augustine society, they devised a plan to escape- Enzo would give Damon his blood rations for a year, allowing himself to grow weaker while Damon would gradually become strong enough to regain his vampiric abilities. When they were brought out on display as a medical oddity for the Augustine's, Damon broke free and killed their captors, but a fire started and Damon was unable to free Enzo. After realizing he was unlikely to save both Enzo and get to freedom, Damon flipped off his emotions and left Enzo to burn.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: He is a vampire that is part of the Augustine Society.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Enzo can be rather charming and polite when he wants to be. He's actually a lot more mild mannered and sophisticated than Damon, who i s highly brash and impulsive.
* FireForgedFriends: With Damon; their imprisonment and torture by the Augustine society made them friends and allies.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: Enzo views himself as this to Damon, but the truth is a little more complicated.
* FreudianExcuse: Enzo being tortured brutally for decades makes it understandable as to why Enzo is the way that he is.
* HellBentForLeather: Like many of the vampires on the show, Enzo is seen wearing black leather jackets.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Damon as they were each other's only company for five years.
* HotGuysAreBastards
* {{Immortality}}: Enzo is a vampire, which means he can live forever without aging or dying. Which is a considerably less desirable power when your future promises nothing but daily agony. He is [[TheUndead Type V]] and [[LifeDrinker Typer X]].
* ItsPersonal: Subverted- he was freed to act on the Augustine's orders, but his antagonism with Damon and the possibility of killing him sweetened the deal.
* {{Jerkass}}: Justifiably so.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He becomes allies with Stefan and Caroline in order to help them find a cure for the ripper virus that has infected Damon and Elena.
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal: Enzo commits suicide after making Stefan extract his heart.]]
* LeftForDead: By Damon.
* MrFanservice: Come on, look at him. Not only is he physically gorgeous, but he oozes charisma. Not to mention that accent...
* TheNicknamer: Has called Caroline "Gorgeous", "Goldilocks" and "Blondie".
* OnlyFriend: Admitted Damon was his only friend... which only made the betrayal cut deeper.
* OnlyOneName: Enzo doesn't seem to have a known last name.
* PermaStubble
* Really700YearsOld: His exact age is unknown but he was locked up for seventy years so he is in at least his late nineties or just over a hundred despite looking no older than his early thirties.
* TheReveal: He is revealed to have been Damon's former friend Enzo.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Damon offered him the chance to team up and kill Enzo's captors, but Enzo refused.
* RejectedApology: Rather understandably, Enzo remained bitter at Damon for leaving him to a half-century of torture at the hands of the Augustine's.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Enzo says that he was a former soldier and that he fought during ''WorldWarII''.
* ShipTease: With Caroline oh so much.
* TallDarkAndHandsome
* TallDarkAndSnarky
* ToxicFriendInfluence: After Enzo decides he'd rather be friends with Damon than enemies, he tries to convince Damon to resume killing and become the man he was when Enzo knew him. At first Enzo is merely a PoisonousFriend, but when [[spoiler: Damon kills Aaron he becomes a ToxicFriendInfluence.]]
* TroubledButCute
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Damon.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Seventy years of daily torture will make you a little bit unstable and homicidal.

[[folder: Qetsiyah]]

!!Qetsiyah a.k.a. Tessa (portrayed by [[spoiler: Janina Gavankar]])

->''Have you ''not'' been listening to me? I have trust issues. I'm controlling and paranoid and a little crazy!....And that's working out just fine.''

Qetsiyah (Ancient Greek: Kετσιυαη) was the oldest known ancestor of the Bennett bloodline, and the first witch who discovered the spell to grant a person immortality. Qetsiyah was born one time during 1st Century B.C. She was deeply and obsessively in love with her best friend Silas, who was a powerful warlock. She made him immortal in the hopes that he'd grant her the same gift. When Silas decided to give immortality to another woman who was his true love, [[UnderStatement she didn't take it too well at all.]] The actions that Qetsiyah took as a result are the driving force for season four's main plot. At least, that's the story according to Silas. As far as Qetsiyah is concerned, Silas seduced her and made her believe that their love was real and could last forever. She created the immortality elixir, so they could both drink it on their wedding night. She ended up jilted at the altar and discovered that not only had Silas lied to her all along, he'd shared the immortality elixir with someone else...Amara, her own handmaiden and the ultimate ancestor of the Petrova doppelganger line. After Bonnie lowered the veil, Qetsiyah left the other side and became mortal again, and is now determined to finish off what she and her Hunters started over two thousand years ago. Qetsiyah was the most powerful character in the series universe alongside Silas, surpassing all witches, werewolves, vampires and the Original Vampires, such as Klaus, Elijah, etc. She was the oldest female character in the series alongside Amara. Qetsiyah is the most powerful witch seen so far (again, alongside Silas) and arguably, the most important character in the series. Qetsiyah was a distant ancestor and relative of the Bennett Family.
----

* AboveGoodAndEvil: How Qetsiyah seems to see herself.
* TheAce: Qetsiyah is the most powerful witch in the series universe alongside Silas.
* ActionGirl[=/=]ActionFashionista: Qetsiyah is more of a DarkActionGirl plus she seems to like fashion as she dresses rather trendy in the modern times.
* AerithAndBob: With Silas. While Silas' name is pretty normal sounding, Qetsiyah is a very unique and original sounding name.
** She tends to agree and decides that she wants to be called [[spoiler: Tessa]] instead.
* AffablyEvil: Can appear polite and even stable at times, but is actually really unstable, psychotic and crazy.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Qetsiyah still wants Silas after two thousand years.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Qetsiyah was passionately (more like obsessively) in love with Silas, but Silas did not love her and was in love with another woman (who was his true love and soulmate).
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Qestiyah is a cold, ruthless and icy individual.
* AlphaBitch: ''OH SO MUCH.'' In fact, Qetsiyah is probably a bigger bitch then Rebekah and Katherine combined. She's also currently the most powerful female character in the series.
* AlwaysSecondBest[=/=]AlwaysSomeoneBetter: In regards to Silas' lover. Qetsiyah loved Silas but Silas loved someone else, despite Qetsiyah being his best friend and helping him become immortal out of love for him.
** [[spoiler: In 5.03, Qetsiyah tells Damon that Silas and Amara's doppelgangers - currently Stefan and Elena - have been finding each other and falling in love throughout the ages. Destiny will always push them together and, as she bitterly states, people like her and Damon are 'just the conflict that makes their story interesting'.]]
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Since Qetsiyah is an Arabic name, it could be assumed that Qetsiyah is of Arabic of Mediterranean descent.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Although Qetsiyah comes off as a villain in her actions, her actions could be interpreted as someone who is a WellIntentionedExtremist, albeit the most ruthless on the scale.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Qetsiyah's ruthlessness and determination to kill Silas for over 2,000 years has caused suffering and pain to others.
* AncientGreece: Where Qetsiyah is originally from.
* AntiVillain: [[NobleDemon Type I]], [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds Type II]].
* ArchEnemy: To both Silas and Amara. Understandable considering Qetsiyah's 2000 year plans to keep the both of them separated from each other for eternity. [[spoiler: Unfortunately for both Silas and Amara, Qetsiyah does manage to achieve her goal in keeping them apart.]]
* ArrangedMarriage: It's never been confirmed in canon, but it could be assumed that Qetsiyah's engagement and marriage with Silas was arranged, as it was Amara who Silas truly loved.
* ArtifactOfAttraction[=/=]ArtifactOfDoom: Qetsiyah created the cure for immortality and buried it with Silas when she entombed him in darkness, in hopes that Silas would take the cure, die a mortal death and cross over to the Other Side, which is a purgatory for supernatural beings (such as witches, vampires, werewolves, etc).
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Qetsiyah is a pretty unique and original name.
* AxeCrazy: Considering that Qetsiyah murdered an innocent woman because Silas was in love with her obviously qualifies Qetsiyah as being on the crazy, psychotic side.
* BackFromTheDead: When Bonnie dropped the Veil to the Other Side, Qetsiyah brought herself back to life.
* {{Badass}}: Qetsiyah is the ultimate ancestor of the Bennett bloodline, and the one of the first witches who discovered how to give a person immortality. She's also the one who created 'The Other Side', the place supernaturals go to when they die. She was also responsible for creating The Five, which are a group of supernatural hunters who are meant to find and kill Silas (by getting him to take the cure and go to The Other Side) out of revenge on Qetsiyah's behalf.
** BadassBoast: Qetsiyah's powers sure measure up to her ego.
** [[BadassCape Badass Cloak]]: Qetsiyah wore one during the flashbacks.
** CulturedBadass: Qetsiyah is from 1st Century B.C and from AncientGreece, which is known to be a highly sophisticated period. She also appeared to be rather wealthy.
** HeartbrokenBadass: She was betrayed by Silas, and was extremely heartbroken over the fact that Silas betrayed her for Amara and loved Amara over her.
* [[spoiler:TheBadGuyWins: She even says the words "I won" as she dies.]]
* BadPowersBadPeople: Qetsiyah is a very powerful witch but she uses her powers for bad and she doesn't have good intentions.
* BastardGirlfriend: [[spoiler: To Silas according to the flashbacks. Qetsiyah got jealous and killed Amara because she was in love with Silas and Silas was in love with her.]]
* TheBaroness: Qetsiyah is a combination of the Sexpot (sexy, seductive, alluring, sadistic, FemmeFatale) and Rosa Klebb (domineering, aggressive, cold, icy, controlling) flavours.
* BatmanGambit: She told Silas that she had killed Amara in order to get him to take the cure. Instead [[spoiler: she didn't kill Amara and just desiccated her. She wanted to punish Amara with an eternity without Silas and only after Silas took the cure was it revealed that she was alive]]
* BattleCouple: With Silas. They were both the most powerful wtches amongst a group called The Travellers.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness --> BeautyIsBad: Qetsiyah is very physically beautiful but she is very vindictive, vengeful, jealous, spiteful and crazy.
* TheBeautifulElite: In the flashbacks, it seems as though Qetsiyah came from nobility and wealth.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: A variation of this trope. Qetsiyah watched versions of Silas and Amara, two people that Qetsiyah hated the most, from the Other Side find each other by destiny and fate and fall in love century after century. That for Qetsiyah was ultimate torture that she only became even more hateful and vengeful.
* BerserkButton: When Qetsiyah discovered that Silas didn't love her and had loved someone else, Qetsiyah [[IfICantHaveYou didn't take]] [[MurderTheHypotenuse it well at all]].
* TheBerserker: When Qetsiyah discovered that Silas didn't love her and loved another, she lashed out against Silas in the most cruel way imaginable: killing Silas' true love and then entombing the immortal Silas in darkness for eternity, leaving him to starve and desiccate.
* BettyAndVeronica: The love triangle between herself, Silas and Amara. Qetsiyah is the Veronica to Amara's Betty for Silas' Archie.
* BiggerBad: Qetsiyah served as this during the course of season four. Although, Silas was the main villain of season four, Qetsiyah was the bigger threat despite not being onscreen. Her actions basically drive the purpose of the plot of the fourth season.
** BigBadEnsemble: [[spoiler: Qetsiyah and Silas are expected to be this in season five, since she so far has stepped down from BiggerBad status.]]
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Damon. Qetsiyah basically says that she and Damon are the same and that they are merely the obstacle standing between the "two fates" (Qetsiyah for Silas/Amara and Damon for Stefan/Elena).
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Qetsiyah helped Silas to create the immortality spell out of love for him. As soon as she discovered that Silas loved someone else and not her, her true, psychotic and crazy colours showed.
* BlackMagic: This is the type of magic Qetisiyah seems to practice.
* BlackMagicianGirl: Qetsiyah is not to be underestimated. She is an extremely powerful witch.
* BrainyBrunette: Of The MagnificentBitch type.
* BrokenBird: Qetsiyah was betrayed by the one man she loved more than anything (Silas) and someone whom she called her friend (Amara), was killed by The Travellers and was forced to watch versions of Silas and Amara endlessly find each other over the centuries and fall in love with each other.
* BrownEyes: Along with being an AloofDarkHairedGirl.
* BrutalHonesty: Qetsiyah doesn't seem to shy away from spilling the truth tea and she is rather blunt and frank.
* TheChessmaster: From what we have been told, Qetsiyah was very scheming, cunning and manipulative.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Silas. They seemed to have grew up together since childhood and they were best friends before they became engaged.
* ChivalricRomance: With Silas during 1st Century B.C.
* ChronicVillainy: Qetsiyah couldn't seem to stop her manipulating and scheming.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Oh so much in regards to Silas. In fact, this trope might not even be enough to describe Qetsiyah. She was more along the lines of MurderTheHypotenuse, StalkerWithACrush and IfICantHaveYou levels.
* ComplexityAddiction
* CostumePorn: During the 1st century B.C. flashbacks.
* CourtlyLove: With Silas during 1st Century B.C.
* CrazyPrepared: Qetsiyah was a very powerful witch who helped create the first immortal being in the world (Silas), created her very own talisman, created the [[MetaphysicalPlace Other Side]] for supernatural beings as a supernatural purgatory for all supernatural beings to go to when they die, creating the cure for immortality, burying or sealing Silas in a tomb with the cure, and also creating a group of supernatural vampire hunters (The Five) in order for them to find Silas and kill him with the cure so that he would end up on the Other Side with her for eternity. It should also be mentioned that the main reason Qetsiyah created The Other Side was so that if Silas should take the cure and die a mortal death, he would end up with her on The Other Side forever and not with his true love who was human.
* CruelMercy: Since Silas couldn't be killed, she cast a spell and entombed him in darkness, leaving him an eternity of loneliness and misery. Not only that, but Qetsiyah killed Silas' true love before Silas could do anything to stop her. Due to Silas being immortal and needing blood as a source to survive, he was also left to starve and desiccate in darkness for eternity, which is a much crueller punishment than death itself. See FateWorseThanDeath and AndIMustScream.
* CuteAndPsycho: Qetsiyah may be attractive, but boy, is she a little on the unpredictable and crazy side.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Qetsiyah seems to be very aware of what is going on, but that is probably because she has been spying on the physical world from The Other Side for over 2,000 years. Not to mention that she is a powerful witch who knows a variety of different spells. Hell, Qetsiyah created the spell of immortality, the cure for immortality, and The Other Side.
* DarkActionGirl: Qetsiyah is a very powerful witch who is completely crazy, unpredictable and psychotic.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Oh dear. From being backstabbed by both the man she loved more than anything and her own handmaiden, to being killed by The Travellers and becoming a ghost forced to watch versions of Silas and Amara find each other for centuries on the Other Side, it is clear why her past is so troubled and why Qetsiyah was so crazy.
* TheDarkChick: In opposition to Amara, who could be seen as TheChick.
* DarkIsEvil: Qetsiyah seems to be wearing darker colours in the modern day.
* DarkMagicalGirl: Qetsiyah is a witch who primarily practiced dark or black magic.
* DeadpanSnarker: When we first meet her. She is rather snarky and sarcastic.
* DeathByWomanScorned: When Qetsiyah discovered that Silas loved another (Amara) instead of her, she killed Amara and then entombed Silas by burying him alive with the cure so he would suffer.
* DeathGlare: Gives many of these to Silas and Amara.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Around both Silas and Stefan.
* DesperatelyCravesAffection: More like Desperately Craves Silas' Affection. Unfortunately for Qetsiyah, Silas never loved her and Qetsiyah's feelings for Silas were always (and still are) unreciprocated but that does not stop Qetsiyah from doing everything and anything to get Silas to be with her for all of eternity, basically by force.
* DestructiveRomance: With Silas. She spent 2,000 years obsessed with him to the point where she became psychotic and emotionally crazy and unstable, even though she knew that Silas did not love her and will never love her.
* TheDeterminator: Qetsiyah was so determined for Silas to love her and be with her for eternity that she [[MurderTheHypotenuse murdered Silas' true love, Amara]], created the cure for immortality so that Silas would take it and die, created the Other Side so that Silas would take the cure, die a mortal death and cross over to the Other Side so that Silas would end up with her in supernatural purgatory for eternity instead of with his human mortal true love, created a group of supernatural hunters (The Brotherhood Of The Five) to find, cure and kill Silas so that he would end up on the Other Side with her. Qetsiyah is this trope to the most extreme levels.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Qetsiyah didn't just get even with Silas for betraying her, she got ultimate revenge by killing Silas' lover out of anger, jealousy and spite and entombing Silas in darkness for eternity.
* TheDreaded: The name ''Qetsiyah'' is enough to make others quake in fear, as she is known to be one of the most powerful (and unpredictable and crazy) witches of all time.
* DrivenByEnvy: Intense jealousy and envy over Silas loving someone else and not her is what drove Qetsiyah to murder an innocent woman.
* DrivenToMadness: Watching the male she loved Silas betray her for her own handmaiden had a lot to do with Qetsiyah becoming vengeful, hateful, crazy, insecure and psychotic.
* DrivenToSuicide: Kills herself by slitting her own wrists which leads to a clausal blood loss all so she can join a dead Silas on The Other Side.
* DrivenToVillainy: Although we don't know the full story of why Qetsiyah became psychotic, it could be because she was simply deeply hurt and betrayed when she discovered that the man that she loved more than anything (Silas) didn't love her back and decided to give the gift of immortality to his true love over her, who was his best friend.
* DrunkWithPower: Qetsiyah was one of the most powerful witches in the world yet she used her power to cause harm and inflict pain on others.
* EntitledBitch: Qetsiyah threw a temper tantrum when she discovered that Silas did not love her and loved someone else.
* EternalLove: Qetsiyah desired this with Silas more than anything, hence why she created the spell for immortality. Unfortunately, Silas didn't love her and wanted to grant the gift of immortality to [[spoiler: Amara instead.]]
* EthnicMagician: Since Qetsiyah is Bonnie's ancestor, it's assumed that she is of African descent. Although, it is not certain that Qetsiyah was of African descent since her name is of Arabic origin and her native tongue or language was Aramaic (which is an ancient language which is Semitic and could be Arabic, Hebrew, Ethiopic, and Akkadian, which is Assyrian and ancient Babylonian) according to Klaus, the symbols and language on The Hunter's Sword. So, it could be possible that Qetsiyah was actually of Arabic or Middle Eastern descent.
** Aramaic language can be spoken in parts of the Middle East such as Syria, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Jordan and Palestine.
* EtTuBrute: Qetsiyah DID NOT take it well when she discovered that Silas wanted to grant another woman immortality instead of her. For Qetsiyah, this was the betrayal that drove her to become psychotic and vengeful towards Silas and his true love.
** Also felt this way towards Amara, her handmaiden.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Well, Qetsiyah did love Silas, didn't she?
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Qetsiyah may not have the greatest intentions, but she still has some standards and is not completely and totally irrational all the time.
* EvilCounterpart: Could be seen as this to Amara.
* EvilFeelsGood[=/=]EvilIsSexy: Qetsiyah is beautiful despite being extremely psychotic, vengeful and crazy.
* EvilFormerFriend: To Silas. In fact, Qetisyah was deeply in love with Silas and was even engaged to be married to him. Whether Silas and Qetsiyah was an arranged marriage is unknown but is highly possible. Qetsiyah had created the spell of immortality for Silas out of love for him. Unfortunately for Qetsiyah, Silas betrayed her when he made himself and his true love, Amara, immortal instead of her. Qetsiyah did not take Silas' betrayal very well and has been wanting to get revenge on Silas for over 2,000 years.
* EvilGloating: "True love prevails. Universe be damned."
* EvilHasGoodTaste: Qetsiyah came from 1st century B.C. Ancient Greece. She's bound to have a sophisticated aura about her.
* EvilIsPetty: Qetsiyah is very vengeful and vindictive. The fact that she killed an innocent woman over a man speaks volumes of her personality.
* EvilVersusEvil: With Silas, the BigBad. Both Silas and Qetsiyah are in a major battle for the cure and neither will stop until they both get it. The reason Silas wants to obtain the cure is that so he can take the cure, drop The Veil, destroy The Other Side, die a mortal death and cross over to be with Amara in death for eternity. Qetsiyah, on the other hand, wants to force the cure down Silas' throat, turn him a mortal again, kill Silas so that he would end up on The Other Side, and possibly kill herself so she could go back to being on The Other Side so Silas is forced to spend an eternity with her and not Amara.
* EvilPlan: Wants to preserve the Other Side so that other supernatural beings who have died end up suffering for eternity and never finding peace all because she wants Silas to be with her on the Other Side for her for eternity and separated from his mortal human true love Amara.
* [[EvilSorceror Evil Witch]]: It is clear that Qetsiyah is very vengeful, hateful, crazy and psychotic.
* FaceHeelTurn: Before Silas betrayed Qetsiyah, she seemed to be a normal, albeit slightly jealous and insecure young lady.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Qetsiyah is very beautiful, but she is completely psychotic, manipulative and crazy.
* FalseSoulmate: "Silas was my true love. I never said I was his."
* FauxAffablyEvil: Qetsiyah can be polite and courteous when she wants to be. However, underneath her stoic, polite or calm demeanour is a very psychotic and emotionally unstable individual.
* FemmeFatale: Qetsiyah seems to be a bit of a seductress, especially in the flashbacks.
* FirstLove: Might have been this for Silas.
* {{Foil}}: To Amara, Silas' true love.
* FreudianExcuse: One could say Qetsiyah turned out to be the psychotic, crazy, hateful and vengeful person that she is because the man that she loved more than anything (Silas) manipulated her into thinking that he loved her and wanted to spend an eternity with her. On top of it, because Qetsiyah loved Silas so much, she betrayed nature (as a witch, who is a servant of nature) and created the very first spell of immortality so that they could both become immortal and spend an eternity with each other. But then Qetsiyah had discovered that he didn't intend to share the gift of mortality with her and instead, desired to share it with someone who was personally close to her, Amara, her handmaiden. As if being betrayed b both Silas and Amara want enough, because both Silas and Amara were immortal and therefore unkillable, nature created a loophole and created versions of Silas and Amara that could die called doppelgängers. A dead Qetsiyah as a ghost, who was killed by The Travellers for unknown reasons, was forced to watch mortal versions of Silas and Amara consistently find each other throughout the centuries and fall deeply in love with each other, because the Universe, destiny and fate calls for it. It is no wonder that Qetsiyah became the hateful and vengeful person that she is in the current times.
* FriendVersusLover: Qetisyah was Silas' friend who was in love with him. But Silas was in love with another woman. Qetsiyah was a rival to Silas' true love for Silas' affections. She murdered Silas' lover out of pure anger, rage and jealousy when she discovered that Silas loved someone else and not her.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Qetsiyah goes from being a young, powerful witch who practiced magic to a hateful, vengeful, crazy, powerful witch who created a whole new dimension for dead supernatural beings called The Other Side, all so that she could trap Silas mortal soul with her for all eternity.
* FunctionalMagic
* TheGhost: Qetsiyah has never been seen on screen, despite being a major driving force in season four's plot and storyline. [[spoiler: Subverted as of season five.]]
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: On The Hunters Mark, it depicts Qetsiyah killing Silas' lover with some kind of a weapon, most likely a knife.
* GorgeousPeriodDress: In the 1st Century B.C. flashbacks.
* GreenEyedMonster: Qetsiyah is a VERY jealous and envious person by nature.
* HairTriggerTemper: Qestiyah is very easily angered and unpredictable.
* HelloNurse: See MsFanservice.
* HotBlooded: Qetsiyah is very impulsive, passionate, short tempered, unpredictable and overly emotional.
* HotGirlsAreBitches: Although Qetsiyah is very beautiful, she is a BIG TIME bitch.
* IceQueen: Qetsiyah is very ruthless, cold, calculating and icy.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain
* InsaneEqualsViolent: Qetsiyah is both crazy and violent. She ended up brutally murdering an innocent woman (Amara) over a man who didn't even love her (Silas) by slitting her throat and cutting out her heart. Insane ''and'' violent much?
* IronLady: Cold, domineering and icy, Qetsiyah became this over the centuries.
* IfICantHaveYou: In regards to Silas. See MurderTheHypotenuse, {{Yandere}} and TheDeterminator.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Qetsiyah was extremely selfish and vengeful. She was extremely obsessed with Silas and wanted Silas all to herself, so much so that she ended up killing Silas' true love out of anger, jealousy and revenge. Not only that, but Qetsiyah ended up creating The Other Side (a place where supernatural beings go to after they die and have been suffering for over 2,000 years) all because Qetsiyah couldn't bear the thought of Silas being reunited in death with Amara.
* {{Jerkass}}: Almost as much as Silas. See ManipulativeBitch.
** JerkassFacade: Qetsiyah actually has a rather vulnerable interior and has an icy exterior due to being hurt, betrayed and heartbroken by Silas.
** JerkJustifications: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. The reason why Qetsiyah became so vengeful and hateful is because she was betrayed by both Silas and Amara.
** JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: BIG TIME. Considering how ruthless, manipulative and domineering Qetsiyah is.
* KickTheDog[=/=]KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: As if murdering Silas' true love wasn't enough, Qetsiyah buried Silas alive in darkness, leaving him to desiccate and fossilize. It turns out that Qetsiyah didn't murder Amara but she did make Amara suffer as much, if not more, as Silas did. Qetisyah used Amara as an anchor for the Other Side, which made Amara experience every single supernatural death. This means that because of Qetsiyah, Amara suffered for two thousand years desiccating and starving ''and'' seeing endless dead supernatural beings. That is what you call a fate worse than death for both Silas and Amara.
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal: Qetsiyah kills herself after cutting herself and experiencing a loss of blood. She ends up crossing over to the Other Side. Silas, who also died, is now stuck with Qetsiyah on the Other Side for all eternity and is separated from his one true love (Amara) forever.]]
* KnightTemplar: Qetsiyah is extremely ruthless.
* LackOfEmpathy: Qetsiyah showed zero remorse for murdering an innocent woman out of vengefulness, jealousy and spite.
* LadyOfBlackMagic: Qetsiyah is said to be one of the most powerful witches of all time, according to Silas.
* LadyOfWar: In the flashbacks, Qetsiyah appeared to be this during 1st Century B.C.
* LightIsNotGood: Wears lighter colours but does not have good intentions.
* LongLostRelative: It was revealed in season four that Qetsiyah is actually a very distant ancestor to Bonnie and the Bennett bloodline.
* LoveHungry: Qetsiyah was obsessed with Silas to dangerous and psychotic proportions.
* LoveHurts: Qetsiyah loved Silas so much (''too much actually'') yet Silas did not love her back and loved someone else (Amara).
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: She murdered an innocent woman, the woman who Silas loved more than anything, and then sealed Silas away before he could do anything about it.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: Because of her obsession with Silas, Qetsiyah ended up doing a lot of crazy and dumb things in the name of love.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Qetsiyah killed someone over a man for God's sake. Or at least the legend of Silas suggested so.
* LoveMartyr: For Silas. Qetsiyah admitted that she would do anything for him. She even created the very first spell of immortality just because Silas asked her to.
* LoveTriangle[=/=]PsychoticLoveTriangle: The love triangle between Silas, Qetsiyah and Amara. Could be referred to as the original (and most tragic) love triangle of the series.
* MadLove: In regards to Silas. She was obsessed with him to psychotic and crazy proportions.
* MagicIsEvil: Practices BlackMagic.
* ManipulativeBitch[=/=]MagnificentBitch: She manipulated and lured Silas onto an island and entombed him with the cure, where Silas ended up desiccating for over 2,000 years.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: It is clear that Qetsiyah is crazy, unstable and psychotic.
* MsFanservice: Qetsiyah is physically attractive and appealing to the male audience.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Does this to Silas' true love in the most brutal fashion as well.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Qetsiyah is known to be one of the most powerful witches ever. If the creation of the Other Side is any indication how powerful and dangerous Qetsiyah really is.
* NobleDemon
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: How some people from the audience and the fandom sees Qetsiyah. Some see her as completely evil, hateful and vengeful and some do sympathize with her and don't make her out to be a villainous monster.
* NotGoodWithRejection: Qetsiyah '''DID NOT''' take Silas not loving her back very well at all.
* OnlyOneName
* OppositesAttractRevenge: In regards to Qetsiyah and Silas' lover. It was taken to extreme levels since Qetsiyah ended up killing Silas true love out of anger and jealousy.
* PimpedOutDress: In the 1st Century B.C. flashbacks.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Silas. Although Qetsiyah was deeply and obsessively in love with him.
* ProperLady: During the 1st Century B.C. flashbacks.
* PsychoticLoveTriangle: Involved in the most unpredictable, crazy and tragic one of the entire series; the triangle between herself, Silas and Amara.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: To Silas. Qetsiyah killed Amara and entombed Silas hoping that he would take the cure, kill himself so he would end up trapped on The Other Side for eternity with her instead of Amara. When Silas knew this was her intention, he decided to starve and desiccate for eternity instead just to spite Qetsiyah. But that did not stop Qetsiyah. She spent 2,000 years obsessing over Silas and now she has come back as a mortal being from The Other Side to finish off what she started 2,000 years ago in person.
* RegalRinglets[=/=]OjouRinglets: In the 1st Century B.C. flashbacks and in the modern times as well.
* RemovingTheRival: Qetsiyah killed Silas' true love, whom she deemed as competition for Silas' affections.
* TheResenter: Towards Silas, for betraying her.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Qetsiyah is driven by revenge, as opposed to Silas, who despite being a villain, is driven by love.
* TheRival: To Amara in regards to Silas of course.
* RivalTurnedEvil: Qetsiyah was best friend with Silas, until she betrayed him by killing his true love and burying him alive to starve.
* RomanticFalseLead: For Silas. Silas' true love was Amara.
* RomanticRunnerUp: To Amara for Silas.
* [[HeWhoMustNotBeSeen She Who Must Not Be Seen]]: Qetsiyah was a major driving force behind the plot of season four, however, she has never been seen on screen. [[spoiler: She is expected to make an appearance during season five.]]
* SilkHidingSteel
* SmugSmiler
* SmugSnake: Not nearly as smart as she would like to think. Best exemplified when she starts bragging about considering every possibility in her plan and then unable to leave her home due to a binding spell.
* SmugSuper
* TheSociopath
* SpiritedYoungLady
* SpoiledSweet -> SpoiledBrat: Destroyed lives and made others suffer all because she wanted to get back at Silas.
* StalkerWithACrush: For Silas. She was obsessed with him.
* SupernaturalIsPurple
* TragicDream: Qetsiyah desperately wanted to be loved by Silas. Unfortunately for her, Silas never loved her and instead, loved Amara, her handmaiden. Although, it could be said that technically speaking, Qetsiyah "won" Silas in the end (only by force) due to Silas dying and crossing over to The Other Side, where he will be trapped with Qetsiyah for all of eternity and separated from his one true love for all time.
* TragicVillain: Qetsiyah seemed to be a normal person in love with a man (Silas). However, Silas betrayed her and she became obsessed with Silas to psychotic proportions. Even though she has made her life and afterlife mission to destroy Silas' life as well as Amara's life, one can't hemp but feel sympathetic or sorry for her. Qetsiyah loved Silas for over 2,000 years and yet, he never loved her back.
* UnrequitedLove: Qetsiyah was strongly in love (more like obsessed) with Silas but Silas didn't love her back, much to Qetsiyah's dismay.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Silas.
* UnstoppableRage: Qetsiyah's anger regarding Silas' betrayal is what drove her to resort to her extreme actions.
* TheVamp
* VillainousBSOD: When Qetsiyah discovered that Silas was in love with Amara and not her and when she found out that both Silas and Amara betrayed her by taking the spell of immortality together.
* VillainousCrush: On Silas.
* WickedCultured
* WitchSpecies: Qetsiyah was a powerful witch who possessed the gift of magic.
* WomanScorned: And ''how!''
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds
* WorthyOpponent
* {{Yandere}}: She was this for Silas, to such an extent that she created an afterlife called "The Other Side", ''just'' for supernaturals, so that if Silas did take the cure, he would be with her for eternity instead of the woman he really truly loved. She also made Silas horribly disfigured so no woman would love him again. [[spoiler: Although Silas told Bonnie that the monstrous form was just an illusion and that he is not a disfigured monster.]]
