Turns out, he just suffered of major CloningBlues, as Doc points out that Ben Franklin, who was himself a clone of the original Franklin, would not have used a lesser method when the one that created himself was just as effective and would allow him to live just as long as the original.

As he increasingly suffers from CloneDegeneration, he comes to resent his AlternateSelf and decides to kill him.
