* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Though not in a position that should require it, Chanel is the strongest, toughest, meanest, and most capable of all the Kappas. Something the other Chanels' are well aware of, and part of the reason they are all so terrified of her.

* LieBackAndThinkOfEngland: PlayedWith. While having sex, all she does is lay there and let men have her way with her, but this is actually a turn-off for them and makes her a very poor lover. But she figures she's hot so hot she doesn't have to be good in bed.

* LousyLoversAreLosers: She is [[HeadTurningBeauty gorgeous]] and [[ProudBeauty she knows it]], having little trouble [[DudeMagnet getting men into bed]]. But due to her entitled AlphaBitch personality, she truly believes she doesn't have to put any effort into the sex, and can just be a dead fish in bed, assuming guys should be satisfied with the fact that she's hot. Brock is quite put-off by this attitude when he sleeps with her and only managed to reach orgasm with her because he was thinking about [[SilverVixen Munsch]] at the time. Even when he [[WrongNameOutburst ends up shouting Munsch's name]], Chanel's reaction is to just be somewhat disgusted and then put on headphones so she doesn't have to listen to him anymore.

* Light is Not Good: She looks sweet and innocent with light-colored clothes, but has a [[BeautyisBad very mean streak]] that everyone should avoid.

* WithFriendsLikeThese: Chanel is bossy, demeaning, and at times outright abusive towards The Chanels'- even blatantly trying to get them killed to spare herself. The Chanels' are not much better friends to her, [[BackstabbingTheAlphaBitch, as they have all, slept with Chanel's boyfriend and have all attempted or contemplated murdering Chanel.]]

* ADateWithRosiePalms: According to Chanel #1 in "Pumpkin Patch", she does this to ''Dora The Explorer, and has surveillance footage to prove it!''

** She is basically a near-reincarnation of [[ActorAllusion her actress' role]] as [[Film/{{Scream 4}} Jill Roberts]], in a WhatIf scenario if either Jill either survived her gunshot wound or undergoes KarmaHoudini if her conspiracy plan went well and she attended college under a different alias to start a new life with her newly attained wealth from her fame she strived to get. Also, when a serial killer is on the loose, she is ''[[NotMeThisTime not]]'' the killer this time, but still a VillainOfAnotherStory for not being an active current threat and a RetiredMonster after having achieved her EvilPlan long ago.
** She also seems to have some of the same qualities as Madison Montgomery from Series/AmericanHorrorStoryCoven. Both are bitchy AlphaBitch who have some apparent mommy issues.
** And to link back to [[{{Series/Glee}} another Ryan Murphy series that coincidentally ended the year this one began]], she could be interpreted as Quinn Fabray without any humanity whatsoever.

* MoodSwinger: Prone to this.

* IllGirl: Supposedly had scoliosis, forcing her to wear a neck brace all the time. She takes it off once she joins the Chanels', though she notes that, thanks to her illness, it's painful as hell to go without it, and she eventually goes back to wearing it (albeit a very blinged-out version). It's all an act, though. She stole the neck brace from another woman at the asylum and pretended to be ill in order to get people to underestimate her.

* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: While many other characters are less than PC, Chanel takes it UpToEleven. She's shown to be racist, classist, homophobic, and prejudiced toward the fat, the deaf, the ugly...'' and that's just in the first episode''.

* UngratefulBitch: Towards everyone, but taken UpToEleven with regards to Dean Munsch in season two.

* AbusiveParents: Her parents hate her guts. In "Thanksgiving" her family goes away on a holiday at Thanksgiving, without bothering to tell her. It's implied this has happened before. Then it is Taken UpToEleven in the first season finale where they willingly collude with Hester to frame her as the Red Devil. In season two, Chanel #5 states that they finally admitted to being her parents, [[KickTheDog but only on the condition that she never tells anyone.]]

* FacialHorror: Chanel kills her by dunking her headfirst into a cooker full of fryer oil. Taken UpToEleven when she doesn't die immediately and rips off her crisp epidermis before keeling down.

* OnlySaneMan: Played with, Chanel is not that bright, and has little understanding of how the real world works. However, she is smarter than the other Chanels, and will often aggressively shoot down their ridiculous suggestions or point out the logical flaws in their plans.

* AssholeVictim: While Chanel's plan to murder her is excessive, Hester purposely seduced Chad, tipped off the police about Chanel's murder of Miss Bean, lied about being pregnant to manipulate Chad into marrying her despite him making it beyond clear he wasn't interested, and did everything she could solely to try and take everything Chanel had.

* BackStabbingTheAlphaBitch: This is her plan throughout the season. However her efforts don't work out so well, as Chanel is smarter than her. Or so it seems...

* BigBadWannabe: In another show, her plot to usurp leadership in Kappa and steal Chanel's life could make her the main antagonist. But here is she is not only outdone by [[SerialKiller the Red Devil]], but by Chanel herself who is a lot more intelligent and ruthless than she is. That is, until it's revealed that she is in fact the true BigBad of the series.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: At first seems just another innocent poor girl, who is in awe of Kappa. However once she gets a MookPromotion, she reveals she's actually ruthless, power-hungry and a murderous backstabber. ''And'' she's the brains behind the Red Devils.

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She was raised in an asylum so her intensely manic and erratic personality is a naturally given trait and the fact that Gigi was her mother certainly explains her screwiness.

* EvilIsHammy: Not only is she a major DramaQueen, she's also a very insane sociopath and Lea Michele knew how to make her drama character LaughablyEvil.

* {{Hypocrite}}: Agrees that Hoffel should get to kill Chanel on the basis that the way her sister, Miss Bean was murdered was awful, this is despite the fact that Hester herself not only planned out far worse deaths, but actually ''actively set up'' Miss Bean's death herself.
* IdiotBall: Despite how she was brilliant enough to pull off this whole thing in season 1, she makes a massive mistake when she confesses on tape to Denise about being the killer in season 2. Hester assumes that double jeopardy applies and she can't be tried for the crime twice. Denise points out that Hester hasn't even been tried ''once'' but she insists it still counts because the Chanels were.

* ItAmusedMe: Following being unmasked as a psychopath, this is her motivation in Season Two. Everything she does is seemingly just to entertain herself by whatever interests her the most at that particular moment.

** Possible one of the biggest, along with Dean Munsch. Despite being one of the Red Devil killers, her crime never came into light, ultimately [[TheBadGuyWins succeeded in her plans for revenge]], is living happily in the newly reformed Kappa Kappa Tau sorority, and she even stated that her self-inflicted [[EyeScream eye injury]] will make a full recovery.
** Averted in season 2 where Denise gets her confession on tape which get Hester thrown in prison and the Chanels released.
** And immediately played straight again four episodes into season two, where she is allowed to roam freely and even [[EasilyForgiven rejoins the Chanels.]]

* NightmareFetishist: She shows extensive knowledge on how to hide and dispose of dead bodies when the sorority is faced with that very problem. She does, however, seem to be extremely disturbed when she finds the corpses of most of the Red Devil's victims. Later episodes confirm she is one with her love of grisly stories (such as Rasputin's murder), enjoyment scary stories, and all around interest in the murders. Given that she's one of the Red Devils, it makes perfect sense.
* NotMeThisTime: With the announcement that Hester has returned for Season 2, [[WordOfGod Ryan Murphy]] has gone so far to announce that Hester will ''not'' be the killer of that season. She is, however, working ''with'' the killers again.

* TheSociopath: Like her brother, Hester has no true conception of empathy, compassion or guilt. She casually lies, murders and kills. She outright refers to herself as a diagnosed sociopath in “Blood Drive”.
* ThrowingOffTheDisability: Once she receives her makeover from Chanel, she ditches her neck brace. Triple subverted: initially she tells everyone that it's enormously painful not to wear it because all of her neck muscles have atrophied, but afterwards it's never brought up again until "Ghost Stories," in which she takes up wearing her newly bedazzled neck brace again because her spine was about to collapse. Justified in that she was never ill to begin with -- her claiming to have scoliosis was all an act to throw off suspicion.

* WildCard: Is this in Season Two. She claims to know the Green Meanies’ secrets (she at least knows Cassidy is one of the Green Meanie’s) but refuses to slip anything but a few hints along the way. However, apart from this, her behavior varies considerably depending on what would amuses her the most at that moment, such as going from attempting to murder Chanel to giving her dating advice. Whether or not she has an actual plan or goal, or if she is just going along for the ride, is presently unclear.

* BlackAndNerdy: Zayday is a black girl with a genius IQ. That said, it's worth noting that she is a bit of a ditz. In addition to helping the Chanels in their attempt to murder Dean Munsch, she tried to cure a patient with excessive hair growth by lobotomy. Not to mention her incredibly reckless nature, which has gotten her into trouble on various occasions.

* ButtMonkey: A minor case in season 2. She sees the Chanels as her friends, but they barely even acknowledge her outside of Chanel's insults. When she's [[spoiler: kidnapped]], the remaining cast note her absence, but don't care and never bother to look for her.

* TheLeader: She becomes the new Kappa house Co-President as of "Pumpkin Patch".

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Subverted. She appears out of nowhere just in time for the elections in "Pumpkin Patch" while nothing is explained about her escape, until it's revealed she stabbed the Red Devil when he let her out for dinner and hauled ass.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Downplayed. While only the Chanels are actively mean to her, even [[NiceGirl Grace]] calls her "Farty." She also confirms that most people in the house ignore her and that Zayday was the only one to reach out to her. Subverted somewhat by a candlelight vigil held in her honor, the only memorial the Chanel's appear to take seriously. Considering the overall tone of the show, this could imply hers was the only death they found genuinely upsetting.

* CloudCuckooLander: Even leaving aside her massive obsession with Music/TaylorSwift, her seemingly complete obliviousness to how much the Chanels look down on her places her in this category.

* TheDeterminator: Bullied by the others Chanels before and during the series, chased with hedge shears through a snowy maze and thus one of the main targets in season 1, framed for murders and put into an asylum, accused several times of being the killer during season 2 (even by authorities) and stabbed in the back with a machete. She's still kicking!
* DoubleStandard: Spouts rather aggressive and stereotyping homophobic remarks towards Boone and Tristan when each of them try to join KKT, yet (aside from smirking at a snide joke Chanel makes at Sam’s expense) makes no such hostile comments about Sam’s ButchLesbian tendencies and is quick to accept #3 when the latter admits to #5 in a private moment her love for Sam and realization of her pansexuality.
* TheDragon: She's Chanel #1's ''de facto'' second-in-command and the most active of all the Chanels. However in the actual official hierarchy, Chanel #3 outranks her. This seems to have been dropped after the first few episodes, as Chanel sees her as useless.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Chanel is endlessly amused by Chanel #5's real name being ''Libby Putney''
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In the pilot she's the only Chanel who has accurate medical knowledge of how [=STDs=] work (an erly indicator of her being a GeniusDitz); in the finale, she's the only Chanel who actually becomes a doctor.

** Indeed, she's truly upset when she discovers the other two Chanels cheated to score high but she did it without even knowing they were cheating and yet they continue to run her down. "I'm a genius and no one cares!"

** In the second season, she is the only one to object to the inclusion of "Chanel pour Homme" saying that a Chanel can't be male or gay, with her main objection being the fact that Tristan's [[StalkerWithoutACrush behavior]] makes her think he could very well be a serial killer. [[DoubleSubversion As well as him possibly stealing their make up,]] which he later [[DumbassHasAPoint actually does.]]

** She possesses detailed knowledge about the chemistry as it relates to meat and allergens.

* LaserGuidedKarma: Hester Ulrich successfully blames Chanel Oberlin and her minions for the killings. The most karmic part being... the jury didn't fall for it. They had a unanimous not guilty verdict..... [[NotHelpingYourCase up until Chanel Oberlin went on a massive tirade against them before they could even ''deliver'' the verdict]], prompting them to change it to guilty out of pure spite. The three Chanels are convicted and sentenced to life in an asylum as punishment.

** Also applies to her relationship the hospital staff, barring Zayday and occasionally Munsch.

* OddFriendship: Starts to form this with Zayday Williams even season two, acting as her "sidekick."

* ReallyGetsAround: She is quite promiscuous and determined not to let something as trivial as a SerialKiller get in the way of enjoying her sex live. [[SubvertedTrope However]], she also has trouble finding a boyfriend because of Chanel's 'vagina teeth' rumor-spreading.

* TokenGoodTeammate: An odd example, considering she started the series as a more aggressively homophobic version of Chanel, but by the last few episodes of season one and (especially) the entirety of season two, she's become more socially awkward and [[InnocentlyInsensitive accidentally insulting]] than bitchy, compared to Chanel and #3. She also objects to Chanel's plot to murder Hester and show concern for Zayday and Munsch.

* ToxicFriendInfluence: It is implied that the other Chanels (Oberlin in particular) serve as this for her, with their verbal abuse tearing down her self-esteem and acting as a driving force for her [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex more mean-spirited moments.]] When she starts becoming friends with Zayday, #5 shows a much nicer personality (admittedly still socially insensitive, sometimes to the point of rudeness) and ends the Second Season running the hospital as a Doctor with her. [[FridgeBrilliance Notably,]] in the First Season finale, the actions during the trial that the Judge calls out as being a demonstration of the Chanels' insanity and entitlement (sleeping through the trial and screaming at the jury) are all things that #1 and #3 did, [[GuiltByAssociation rather than #5.]]

* WeightWoe: Is very paranoid about her weight, as she is the least skinny of the Chanels. Later episodes have her arguing with clothing stores to replace the tags on her clothes (a "larger size" for a Chanel) with those of a Size 2 (which she definitely isn't)
* YankTheDogsChain: A frequent victim of this. After being unpopular and single all throughout high school, she joins Kappa and eventually becomes a Chanel. However, she also becomes Chanel's punching bag and finds it even harder to find a boyfriend, with Chanel spreading rumors about her. When she does get two twin brothers in the sack, they're both killed off by the Red Devil. When Hester is accusing her of being the (orphaned) Red Devil/Baby in the Bathtub, her parents show up... to lie about #5 being adopted in order to assist Hester in framing her. In the asylum, she gets put on medication and Chanel actually becomes a close friend- only to immediately go back to treating her like shit once they're out and Chanel #5 stops taking her Meds (on top of that Chanel #3 is now also more spiteful to #5). She and Tyler fall for each other, Chanel gets Chad to pay for Tyler's surgery - and the Green Meanie kills Tyler off. [[TheChewToy Girl just can't catch a break.]]

** At the end of the first season she seems okay despite her experiences that year, and welcoming the new pledges to the sorority. However, in season 2 Wes reveals that was just a brave front she put up, and her time with the Chanels really changed her.

** She is already being set up as this, sharing many traits with other final girls. In particular, she's a NiceGirl; is enemies with the AlphaBitch; has a prior connection to the sorority which she's trying to learn more about; and is the GirlNextDoor.
** Becomes prophetic, as she (and Zayday) are the only two to survive the Red Devil's attacks (the Chanels survived as well, only to be blamed for the crimes).

* GirlNextDoor: In sharp contrast with the Chanels, Grace's beauty is extremely down-to-earth and understated.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Grace has blonde hair, and hasn't a bad bone in her body.
* IChooseToStay: Remains at Kappa in spite of all her dad's exhortations to leave.

* OnlySaneMan: After Chanel #1 apparently kills Ms. Bean, Grace is the only one whose first reaction is to call campus police.
* PutOnABus: With Skyler Samuels opting to return to college (she deferred to film the first season), Grace did not return for Season 2; Wes explaining that she was at Stanford.. as in the mental institution, not the university.

* TookALevelInBadass: Starts as a naive girl, but her experiences make her more dark and reactive. She attempts to stab Pete when he confesses his crimes, and absolutely wails on the Red Devil.

Her father tells her that they don't have enough time to file one, and that Chanel clearly doesn't know what an injunction is if she's asking for one in this situation.

* TheFace: In "Lovin' the D." The hospital staff are supposed to perform an operation on live TV. But after the host's AccidentalMurder, the crew are left scrambling to save the show. Chanel manages to save the show by taking control of the program and wowing the cast and crew with her great stage presence and direction. Her charisma ends up netting Chanel her very own talk show in the GrandFinale.

** It's likewise implied, that at least some of her behaviour comes from the previous heads of Kappa, bullying and belittling her during the years she's been in the sorority.

* IntentionalHeartbreaker: Downplayed; The reason Pete hates Chanel so much is that, when he was still a freshman, he had a crush on her. She agreed to go out with him, opened up about an embarrassing fetish of hers, which he agreed to partake in... only for it to turn out it was all staged. She laughed at him for being so gullible, her friends had seen the entire thing, and he left, utterly humiliated and hurt by the experience.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Everyone knows Chanel is an AlphaBitch, but at no point in the first seven episodes has she ever hinted at being a decent person. In fact, she's only gotten more narcissistic and evil as the show has gone on, repeatedly trying to place others in harms way in hopes they die either as a means to protect herself, or to get rid of some minor nuisance. There's nothing redemptive about this girl.

** '''BIG TIME.''' In "Pumpkin Patch", she actually gets arrested for murdering Ms. Bean when Hester, Chanel #5, and a convinced Jennifer sell her out, but she leaves on bail with the assistance of Chanel #3 and Sam. {{Subverted}} come the finale, where Chanel Oberlin gets an extreme dose of LaserGuidedKarma (see more below). [[DoubleSubversion Until she's released some time before season two.]]
** Interestingly, her status as this becomes a PlotPoint in season two, as Nurse Hoffel is Mrs. Bean's sister and is out for revenge and justice on the Chanels for killing Mrs. Bean and getting away with it.

* LackOfEmpathy: To everyone, and she hasn't had a single scene suggesting otherwise. Chanel has rejoiced at the deaths of others multiple times purely because it made her life easier, including her so called "friends."
* LaserGuidedKarma: Hester Ulrich successfully blames Chanel Oberlin and her minions for the killings. The most karmic part being... the jury didn't fall for it. They had a unanimous not guilty verdict..... [[NotHelpingYourCase up until Chanel Oberlin went on a massive tirade against them before they could even ''deliver'' the verdict]], prompting them to change it to guilty out of pure spite. * LonelyRichKid: She isn't a very sympathetic example, but it's clear that, underneath it all, she is honestly lonely and miserable.

* MusclesAreMeaningless: See PintSizedPowerhouse, Chanel is tiny, and thin. But she is impressively strong, more so than any of the other Kappa's.

* OnlySaneMan: Played with, Chanel is not that bright, and has little understanding of how the real world works. However she is smarter than the other Chanels, and will often aggressively shoot down their ridiculous suggestions or point out the logical flaws in their plans.

However, she doesn't have that many in comparison to minor celebrities; she hasn't even broken 1000 followers. Highlighted by the magazines thrown in towards the end of the bit. One says "Chanel-o-ween delights tens".

** In the end of season two, she's now a beloved host for a popular show.

* OfCorpseHesAlive: The Red Devil poses and photographs her dead body in various positions and places, in order to maintain the illusion that she's alive by posting the pictures in her Instagram.

* TheUnfavourite: Her parents hated her guts so much that they went on a cruise to celebrate when she died and left all the funeral arrangements on KKT's hands.

* {{Anorgasmia}}: In "Handidates" she confesses to Cassidy she never had an orgasm and didn't even knew what it was until recently.

* BetaBitch: Along with the other Chanels, she implements Chanel #1's commands.

** She's quick to go along with peoples' weird ideas, and it'll either be because she doesn't care enough to object, or because she sees no problem with it. For example, she thinks that Hester's idea to grind up diamonds to look like sugar, and then give it to Chanel is absolutely genius.

* JerkassHasAPoint: She gives a great one to Jane Hollis, pointing out after the justified massacre thirty years ago, she's directing her anger at architecture and geography.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Hester Ulrich successfully blames Chanel Oberlin and her minions for the killings. The most karmic part being... the jury didn't fall for it. They had a unanimous not guilty verdict..... * LoveRedeems: Comes to believe that true love can bring out the best in people in season 2. Her major arc in season 2 is to not only bring the humanity back to Cassidy, but to [stop him from killing.

* TheQuietOne: Of all the Chanels, she's by far the less histrionic and the most low-key. She delivers almost all of her lines in the same bored monotone.

* TheStoic: Always remains calm and unemotional, even when obviously hurt or angry. She admits in “Seven Minutes in Hell” it’s been speculated that she might lack the part of the brain that grants emotions.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Honestly good is stretching it, Chanel #3 is still an accomplice to attempted murder (multiple times, no less) and unrepentant {{JerkAss}}, but she is by far the least bitchy of the Chanels.

* VillainousFriendship: She and Chanel have a pretty close friendship, despite some slight bitchiness on both sides. Chanel #3 even pleads for one of the Green Meanies to not kill Chanel. It’s worth noting that baring one episode [[note]] Where Chanels 3, 5, and 6 become convinced that Chanel is the Red Devil killer and plan to murder her to stop the killing spree- and even in that episode #3 is the first Chanel to admit to Chanel #1 what they are planning. [[/note]] Chanel #3 is the only one of her minions who hasn't activately plotted or tried to murder Chanel.

* BetaBitch: Along with the other Chanels, she implements Chanel #1's commands.

* TheChewToy: In season two, her ButtMonkey status get turned Up To Eleven, making her this.

* ToxicFriendInfluence: It is implied that the other Chanels (Oberlin in particular) serve as this for her, with their verbal abuse tearing down her self-esteem and acting as a driving force for her [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex more mean-spirited moments.]] When she starts becoming friends with Zayday, #5 shows a much nicer personality (admittedly still socially insensitive, sometimes to the point of rudeness) and ends the Second Season running the hospital as a Doctor with her. [[FridgeBrilliance Notably,]] in the First Season finale, the actions during the trial that the Judge calls out as being a demonstration of the Chanels’ insanity and entitlement (sleeping through the trial and screaming at the jury) are all things that #1 and #3 did, [[GuiltByAssociation rather than #5.]]

* IdiotBall: Despite how she was brilliant enough to pull off this whole thing in season 1, she makes a massive mistake when she confesses on tape to Denise about being the killer in season 2. Hester assumes that double jeporday applies and she can't be tried for the crime twice. Denise points out that Hester hasn't even been tried ''once'' but she insists it still counts because the Chanels were.

* MaskOfSanity: Initially appears to be a selfish, but underprivileged ambitious brownnoser. But it’s revealed she is in fact highly intelligent and very dangerously insane. In Season Two she outright drops all pretences, displaying her true unstable, unpredictable callous self for all to see.

* WildCard: Is this in Season Two. She claims to know the Green Meanies’ secrets (she at least knows Cassidy is one of the Green Meanie’s) but refuses to slip anything but a few hints along the way. However, apart from this, her behaviour varies considerably depending on what would amuses her the most at that moment, such as going from attempting to murder Chanel to giving her dating advice. Whether or not she has an actual plan or goal, or if she is just going along for the ride, is presently unclear.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Downplayed. While only the Chanels are actively mean to her, even [[NiceGirl Grace]] calls her "Farty." She also confirms that most people in the house ignore her and that Zayday was the only one to reach out to her. Subverted somewhat by a candlelight vigil held in her honour, the only memorial the Chanel's appear to take seriously. Considering the overall tone of the show, this could imply hers was the only death they found genuinely upsetting.

* BullyingTheDragon: She attempts to chastise Boone when he goes off the plan too many times and causes them more problems, despite knowing full well how [[AxCrazy violent]], [[TheSociopath unstable]] and [[LackOfEmpathy deranged]] Boone really is. Sure enough her efforts end with her only realising just how little control she has in this situation after she's finished speaking. If it wasn't for the other Red Devil, Boone would have killed her. And as it turns out, he did.

* ItsPersonal: By implication. Boone makes it clear she's the one in the Antonin Scalia costume during the attack on Dean Munsch. The fact that it's likely she wasn't directly involved in the other Red Devil killings and seemed to mainly function as the mastermind could indicate that she harbours a special kind of hatred for the dean.

* LightisNotGood: She looks sweet and innocent with light-colored clothes, but has a [[BeautyisBad very mean streak]] that everyone should avoid.

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: She consistently mispronounces the word bologna as ''BOH-LOG-NAH'' instead of ''BO-LO-NIA''.

* NotSoDifferent: When apologizing to Grace for the horrible things she said about her mother she says that they both have horrible mothers in an attempt to say they're similar.

* NotSoDifferent: She comes up with the idea to kill Dean Munsch. She and Chanel agree on what way to kill her even speaking at the exact same moment.

* RealityEnsues: Grace is thrown to discover she's flunking all her classes, wondering what could have happened. Her father dryly points out that spending all her time hunting a serial killer and figuring out the identity of the bathtub baby may have affected Grace's studying.

* SurprisePregnancy: She claims she had no idea she was even pregnant until she started going into labor. She thought she had just gained the "freshmen fifteen."

* AccidentalMurder: She claims she didn't know that the fryer was on when she pushed Mrs Bean's face into it. Other characters doubt this.

* BrainlessBeauty: She is very hot but deeply stupid, showing a profound lack of understanding of how the real world works.
** She tries to file an injunction on Dean Munsch [[FrivolousLawsuit for closing the campus on Halloween]]. Her father tells her that they don't have enough time to file one, and that Chanel clearly doesn't know what an injunction is if she's asking for one in this situation.

* {{Expy}}: She is basically a near-reincarnation of [[ActorAllusion her actress' role]] as [[Film/{{Scream 4}} Jill Roberts]], in a WhatIf scenario if either Jill either survived her gunshot wound or undergo KarmaHoudini if her conspiracy plan went well and she attended college under a different alias to start a new life with her newly attained wealth from her fame she strived to get. Also, when a serial killer is on the loose, she is ''[[NotMeThisTime not]]'' the killer this time, but still a VillainOfAnotherStory for not being an active current threat and a RetiredMonster after having achieved her EvilPlan long ago.

* FreudianExcuse: She herself admits that her behavior comes (at least in part) from her boyfriend constantly cheating on her, her only friends being employed by her, and her own parents not even caring enough about her to call her on her birthday. However, she refuses to take any steps to break this cycle or not take it out on others.
** Its likewise implied, that at least some of her behaviour comes from the previous heads of Kappa, bullying and belittling her during the years she's been in the sorority.

* HiddenDepths: "Haunted House" stays to suggest that she may not be as stupid as it seems; it's just that her massive ego tends to get in the way. She's still far from smart, though.

* KarmaHoudini: '''BIG TIME.''' In "Pumpkin Patch", she actually gets arrested for murdering Ms. Bean when Hester, Chanel #5, and a convinced Jennifer sell her out, but she leaves on bail with the assistance of Chanel #3 and Sam. {{Subverted}} come the finale, where Chanel Oberlin gets an extreme dose of LaserGuidedKarma (see more below). [[DoubleSubversion Until she's released some time before season two.]]

* ParentalAbandonment: Alluded to in "Thanksgiving"
** Made clear in the finale when her parents legally disown Chanel and even file a motion with the prosecution in her trial to just do whatever they want to her.
* PetTheDog: In "Seven Minutes In Hell", she saved Zayday from the Red Devil. Although she states that it was to benefit herself in the future, she states that she's come to somewhat like Zayday, suggesting it wasn't entirely out of selfishness.

* SmallNameBigEgo: Her Chanel-o-ween video makes sure to mention her exact numbers, as if to make her seem impressive. However, she doesn't have that many in comparison to minor celebrities; she hasn't even broken 1000 followers.
** Highlighted by the magazines thrown in towards the end of the bit. One says "Chanel-o-ween delights tens".

* SpoiledBrat: She's a perfect fit.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Even by Chanel standards, none of the others really care that she's dead, though given we only have Chanel's word on this and the fact the characters spend so little time grieving anyone's death this may or may not be the case.

* BirdsOfAFeather: with Cassidy, her SpearCounterpart in season two.

* MoralityPet: She's Cassidy's. Especially after she realizes that he's a Green Meanie.
** She's also arguably one of Chanel's.

* VillainousFriendship: She and Chanel have a pretty close friendship, despite some slight bitchiness on both sides. Chanel #3 even pleads for one of the Green Meanies to not kill Chanel.
** It’s worth noting that baring one episode [[note]] Where Chanels 3, 5, and 6 become convinced that Chanel is the Red Devil killer and plan to murder her to stop the killing spree- and even in that episode #3 is the first Chanel to admit to Chanel #1 what they are planning. [[/note]] Chanel #3 is the only one of her minions who hasn’t activately plotted or tried to murder Chanel.

* GeniusDitz: While Chanel is very vapid and has a tendency to speak without thinking, she still has quite a bit more common sense than a lot of the other characters. She also seems to know a lot about food-related chemistry and scores a near perfect grade on her MCAT.

** She is tech savvy enough to create a website in the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Web dark web]] seeking ideas on how to kill Chanel Oberlin.

** She scores a near perfect score on her MCAT.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Might be an even worse case than Chanel #2, as Chanel and Chanel #3 are at best tolerating her and are usually verbally abusing her.

* TheNapoleon: To a lesser degree than Chanel #1; she's 5'1", but she has a serious temper and doesn't hesitate to threaten Boone with physical violence.
** She also physically attacks two guys for insulting Tyler, and is said [[UnreliableNarrator (by Chanel #3)]] to have gotten into a fight ''with a couch.''

* OnlySaneMan: Among Chanel's minions, #5 is more down-to-earth and logical than the others, and she's horrified by the weirdness of the others. She also points out how the idea of Hester's "sugar party" (a party wherein everybody just eats bowls of sugar) is stupid. Unfortunately for her, this makes her the StraightMan to the other two, who see no problems with their ways of thinking.
** Highlighted in 2x07, where Chanel #5 is the only Chanel (including #1 herself) to be against Chanel continuing to date Brock after he almost killed her.
* ReallyGetsAround: She is quite promiscuous and determined not to let something as trivial as a serial killer get in the way of enjoying her sex live. [[SubvertedTrope However]], she also has trouble finding a boyfriend because of Chanel's 'vagina teeth' rumor-spreading.
* TheScrappy: In-universe. Even her parents hated her!

* BreakTheCutie: Episode 8. She learns that her mother is nothing like she imagined her to be, finds out her father has been lying to her for years, Gigi's tearing her and her father apart, and people repeatedly call her out on how desperate she's been. Could also be a case of BreakTheHaughty if you agree with Munsch's [[ItsAllAboutMe assessment of her.]]

* FinalGirl: She is already being set up as this, sharing many traits with other final girls. In particular, she's a NiceGirl; is enemies with the AlphaBitch; has a prior connection to the sorority which she's trying to learn more about; and is the GirlNextDoor.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: At first seems just another innocent poor girl, who is in awe of Kappa. However once she gets a MookPromotion, she reveals she's actually ruthless, power hungry and a murderous backstabber. ''And'' she's the brains behind the Red Devils.

* IdiotBall: Despite how she was brilliant enough to pull off this whole thing in season 1, she makes a massive mistake when she confess on tape to Denise about being the killer in season 2. Hester assumes that double jeporday applies and she can't be tried for the crime twice. Denise points out that Hester hasn't even been tried ''once'' but she insists it still counts because the Chanels were.

* KarmaHoudini: Possible one of the biggest, along with Dean Munsch. Despite being one of the Red Devil killers, her crime never came into light, ultimately [[TheBadGuyWins succeeded in her plans for revenge]], is living happily in the newly reformed Kappa Kappa Tau sorority, and she even stated that her self-inflicted [[EyeScream eye injury]] will make a full recovery.

*** And immediately played straight again four episodes into season two, where she is allowed to roam freely and even [[EasilyForgiven rejoins the Chanels.]]

* NightmareFetishist: She shows extensive knowledge on how to hide and dispose of dead bodies when the sorority is faced with that very problem. She does, however, seem to be extremely disturbed when she finds the corpses of most of the Red Devil's victims.
** Later episodes confirm she is one with her love of grisly stories (such as Rasputin's murder), enjoyment scary stories, and all around interest in the murders. Given that she's one of the Red Devils, it makes perfect sense.

* BlackAndNerdy: Zayday is a black girl with a genius IQ.
** That said, it's worth noting that she is a bit of a ditz. In addition to helping the Chanels in their attempt to murder Dean Munsch, she tried to cure a patient with excessive hair growth by lobotomy. Not to mention her incredibly reckless nature, which has gotten her into trouble on various occasions.
